well Known and interesting observation of My NOTE After Reset :-) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hello Everybody ...
I am writing this just to let everybody know that Reset the phone really works.
I am from india and running galaxy note on stock with the latest update DDLB2 attached are the screenshot of rather beautiful battery life I am getting since yesterday night.
Thanks to so many great developers here on this forum. few users have suggested that after DDLB2 update they were having gr8 battery life however I was still in the same category of NOTE Owners who are getting not so good battery life. But since yesterday after doing a factory reset the results are awesome ....
It took almost 1 hour to restore all the apps and settings after factory reset (I used Ultimate Backup Free for this ) however results are really promising.
Let see how far my note goes now .... and how far it shows the same battery performance/backup.

before factory reset did you get good battery backup with LB2?

No ...
It was rather very poor battery backup even updating to DDLB2 .It is just improved when i did a factory reset. Also earlier it was like 3 to 4 %/hr battery lose during nights.

sounds great.. so how did you do the reset. settings>privacy>factory reset? i think i should try that.

I used to get poor battery backup despite having DDLB2. ..from past 3 days, i let my battery drain till 7~8 % and then full charge it with airplane mode on...and voila...!! I easily squeez 20 hours with moderate use...
Try that

Though it is not must, i always prefer to make clean update evry time.
Before making update, take application backup e.g. titanium backup
Hard reset device
Update ROM (watever convinient n needed PC odin/mobile odin/CWM)
restore data (avoice restore junks, red coloured in TB)
You will get real taste of update.

I am from India too. And i updated through OTA (only the 8MB part). Maybe that is why I am having the same poor battery life that I had before LB2 despite a factory reset.
Any way of flashing complete LB2 without rooting?

What I infer from Post 1 is that after 11 and a half hours, out of which screen is on for approx half an hour, battery is at 80%. Will try something similar and post my battery usage screenshots.

I used *2767*3855# to do the reset ...
There are other ways as well like via settings etc ....
I'll be posting complete result of my battery performance soon

So here is my full battery usage result with the screen shots.
Summary of my usage is as follows :
Battery from 100 to 7 % --- in 1 Day 9H 31 M 20 S
Display On : 2 Hr 31 Minutes
Voice Calls : 3Hr 36 Min 15 Sec
Data : 2g all the time on
Phone WIFI was also on for almost 12 Hr
GPS : I used google maps for 1 hr 30 Min with gps on however now it is not showing this in battery history now :-(
I just plugged usb cable for 30 seconds to just copy the screenshots (during this time ). I am happy to see the note performing exceptionally here.

Just 2.5 hours of disply on in a day. And no browser usage!!

Dont you see voice calls?

note battery sucks like all other android phones. battery is good only if you have no program installed. otherwise it gives you not more than 2 to 3 hours of usage no matter which rom or kernel you use. but anyway I love my phone.

No offense with the screen time and any of the other statics ...
Just wanted to show you how my Tiger (Note) performed from 100 to 99 %
dont calculate rationally (i.e. if in 1 % it performed this long what it ll do in next 99%)
it is just to show that the battery life really got improved .....
Regardless of display time or standby time

I did follow your instruction and YES a great prrformance on my battery...2 days and still counting!!!

Hah, hah!
Check the voice calls. He is actually using the phone as a phone!
I have days like that. My 'best' (debatable) so far is 4 hours of ohone calls, and about 1 hour of screen + WiFi. I was down to about 50%, which is OK in my book.
Not using the phone at all, I have had 10+ days with only a few minutes usage each day on a friend's Note. I had just rooted and de-bloated it.
On that note (heh) I think the factory reset may have removed some app that was hogging the battery for the OP. Is that possible?

Battery problems

Hi, my s2 is using villainrom 1.4 as an attempt to improve battery life. At the moment i am on 50% battery after 4 hours and a bit with screen on time at 2 hours. Even with moderate usage i hav never gotten over 12 hours...
Could someone give me tips how to get my battery to at least a day, desperate for help. I have auto sync off and use a mixture of wiki and 3g.
I will post the screenshots of battery later as i dont have enough posts yet.
Thanks

What apps u have installed?
Go to the built in battery monitor and check for wakelocks (when the screen is off, but the device is awake)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
as what BSAKSOUK said, what apps do you have installed?
Try to uninstall all apps you have installed and see if you get some improvements, then install one, test again.
I found that NetCounter kicked in on my SGII and the phone never went to sleep, just screen off but it was awake and drained the battery in 12h
//Mike
I will try and post the sreenshots soon. It seems that awake and screen on is largely related. I may have to factory reset and see how the battery fairs then.
I did a *#1234# and saw my csc is unknown? Do u think there is somethin wrong with my modem? It seem when wifi is on it always drains the battery alot faster.
Ia there any app to monitor how much drain apps cause? Thanks guys

since you say you had the screen on for 2 hours, your battery seems correct. other people on this forum are claiming they get 4 hours of screen on time from a full charge. so if you had 2 hours and 50%, that seems right in line with proper results.

Best Stock rom for battery life

Hey guys i want to switch to stock rom ..! so just want to ask which stock rom will give me good battery life or any stock rom+ custom kernel combination will give me a good battery life ..
Thnx
I'm getting great results on OMKJ4. Much better than anything else I've used on the S2. If I push my luck I can get 2 days plus the night between (not 2 full days though but I suspect the 2000mah battery would let me if I could actually lay my hands on one).
(There are a lot of issues though in flashing OM builds on anything but an SC-02C)

Well best battery life depends on how you are using the phone. Display On time should be the figure to find out which one is performing best.
I am on KI8 atm, Display On time is very good, around 5.5 h, but it drains battery a lot compare to old KF3, overnight drain was 2/3% on KF3, but now it is 10+%! Now I'll use it for another day and see if it drains the same again then I'll be moving to KI3, which I previously used and loved.
Maybe only me but I've had good luck with the ROMs which end up with 3

20 hours isn't bad. Bear in mind this is a smart phone with big screen & cloud (almost continuos internet connection). Wifi is about 30-50 min, 5-12 sms, 30-40 min of calls (via BT headset), 4 emails (updates with push or fetch in 30 min interval), RSS,weather (every 3 hours). Market, Samsung apps browsing - 40-50 min. GTalk 24/7 ,eBay - 15-20 min.Twitter every 30 min, FB-every 4 hours (not a big fan of it ). Games up to 2 hours. Few widgets (weather, email, clock, calendar). I am on Vodafone now, and almost always on H+, so that also affects battery life. Some say that on 2G network you get better battery life, but my experience is opposite.
And ROM yes, full stock ( I mean no custom kernels etc).
Ki8...54 hours...medium user.

LG GT540 battery drain very fast

I have LG GT540 with android 2.3.4 cyanogen and the battery is just getting drain to fast ( its new battery) .when i go to battery use i saids that android system use 99-100% of battery waht its not normal ( my friend has about 7-8% use) and she last for 1-1.5 hours with normal work ,in idle about 4 hours till battery drops dead. Phone is getting to hot , i tryed to put others 2.3.7 and its same again what sholud i do.
solution i tryed: wipe battery stats -didnt help
going from 2.3.4 to 2.3.7 -didn help
PM me to see pic cuz i am new here so i cant post outside links at the moment.
Did you wipe data when updating to 2.3.7? If not, try it (maybe also without restoring stuff from backup, if wiping+restore does not help)
yes i always wipe data/cache/dalvik cache so tahts not issue, can i format SD card is she a problem maybe?
yeah same for me i am also using a rather new battery
The battery level stays on some percentages longer than others.

what worked for me
Hi
I wanted to thank for Zoe Rom on its thread, but i cant write on developer's threads yet (altough i clicked thanks button there).
Im glad i finally got rid of my memory hogging default rom and now i have a properly working phone again!
Also i wanted to reply there (to some people also complaining about battery endurance on GT540 on Zoe Rom) how i fixed my battery main problem.
Pic of current battery drain:
http://postimage.org/image/d8o8uusd7/
As you can see i am aproximatelly at 50% battery after 1day and 11h of not charging.
I had 2 problems:
1- Battery lasted aproximatelly 5 hours on standby (and i mean i wouldnt even touch the phone and the battery was gonne after that time)
2- During intense battery drain usage, the battery was reporting to have less energy than what it actually has.
1st problem solved by simply turning off the wireless after im done with using it. No idea how could that be taking away so much energy, but it was. Somewhere during the period i was using my default rom i got used to have wireless always on, and my battery on the later times was going away faster than normal (i also like to listen to music on the phone). At the time i didnt correlate the 2 things, and i just put in my head that it probably was the battery dieing on me. It wasnt! The wireless (i suppose because of the Sync function also being on) has been draining my battery like mad between charges.
2nd problem persists. As you can see on the pic, those 2 spikes down correspond 2 diferent aproximatelly 1 GB file wireless transfers with Wifi File Browser app. This transfers (PC->Phone) make the phone CPU have to unzip the two 1GB files to the SD, so they are very CPU and SD card read/write intensive (i can force this battery drops with other instense battery use like playing a 3D game for example). The thing is if during that temporarly drop on the battery level measurement, the level hits 5%, the phone will shutdown. But to be honest, this problem is minor comparing to the 1st one.
There is one other minor problem with my battery, wich is the reading being inconsistent (drops 10%, then gains 15% then drops 5% again etc), but is this a problem at all?
I read a post of a guy that had made extensive testing to his battery cycles, providing loads of graph of battery levels (cant find link) . I didnt read through all of it, but i remember the guy saying something in the end like "Dont be too paranoid with your battery levels, as they arent accurate. Instead use your phone normally and you will gain an idea of how long will it last with certain types of usage"
By the way, he also said for people to just charge their battery whenever they could/wanted as it has no negative impact on battery life. I also read a bit of a paper on lithium-ion batteries stating the same, so no more forcing full-discharges for me!
One last thing! Deleting the batterystats file is as simple as disconnecting your phone from the charger. Why? because that file serves solely the purpose of suplying the UI with info of the battery drain usage on the current battery cycle.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-engineer-debunks-myth-wiping-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
And you can confirm this if you unplug your phone while looking at yout battery stats.
I hope this helps
PS: pls notice that it could have been not the wireless itself that causes the battery drain, but some service using the wireless. Finding this would require more extensive testing.

Update
Hello again
I just wanted to give an update on the situation since i noticed this post is linked from the Zoe Rom thread.
Two days ago i bought a new battery, an unbranded one (cost me 15€ here in Portugal). The shop had a legit LG battery for 37.50€ but i tought it wasnt worth the money. This battery has the same specs as the original, except it is 1300mAh compared to the 1500mAh of the original.
I dont have any battery related problem any more. Yesterday i woke up (100% battery), unplugged the phone, let the wireless on all morning, listened to 2-3 hours worth of tunes, browsed the web a bit, tested some messaging apps etc. Today i woke up, didnt charge during the night, and im sitting on 45% battery. Wish i had gotten a new battery sooner lol
With my old battery the phone wouldnt shutdown. It would always automatically restart. I had no ideia a malfunctioning battery could cause this.
I've have had similar problems with the battery on my GT540 with all cyanogenmods - 2.3.7, 4.0.4, 4.1.2. There were no such problems with original 2.1 I think it is the price for the newer versions, I can live with that, I don't have to buy new phone

Galaxy s2 battery life

Hey people, i am a starter in this forum(posting i mean) i ve tried like 30 roms in an year in my sgs2(i9100) and currently on the ressurction v2. Just an information, since i am a noob i dunno if this has alrdy been posted. I did somethin somewhere i read on the net which boosted my battery life to like twice the previous amount..
Here are the approximate battery hours
without net, camera usage, music and games - 25 hours 17 mins(1%)--> Previously it was barely 13 hours
with al the above and 2g on(working apps like gmail fb whatsapp viber etc) i got like 7 hours with 80% remainin ---> previously 10 hrs an t was 0%
With 3g its close to6 hours n 77 % remaining.. previously t was 6 hrs..
Like i said i duno hw much is the actual bttery life o GS2. HEre s what i did(for those who think i am not a "bloatware" )
1. Take a backup of the image audio and the other essential files u need frm ur SD card
2. Go to recovery and wipe data factry data cache and dalvik...
3. Clear the battery data (or smthn like that)
4. Go to settings and clear the SD card(format sd card)
5. nw all the useless app files (Badly written apps) whch consume **** load of the power thru "android OS" re removed.
7. Jus copy bak the essential files and trn off the fone n let t charge to 100% (3 sad hours :|)
8. I think thats bout t.. I got a proper response.....
Mods if this s a repost or smthn please remove it sorry in advance...
Oh and try not to use the chargin process on and off. Charge t fully once n don charge if its not below the critical 5%... sm improvement in battery life
cheers to the noobs n ty XDA..
Interesting will definitely try this out. My battery life is pretty bad.
7 days and still going..
normally my phone lasts about 2 days with few phone calls, 3G and limited WiFi usage.. last wednesday, I charged it over night and today, the phone still has 25% baterry life. I don't know why it happened, but now it's 7th day of using my SGS2 without charging.
I go like 30hours on battery (got the 2000mah extended) with medium to heavy usage all day long.
3G and sync always on
WiFi probably 5-7 hours a day
Auto-brightness with LUX
A lot of whatsapp, twitter, facebook, instagram, etc

Any proof? Like screenshots..?? My NOKIA 1500 doesnt give more than 4 days.. Ur phone is a BOON!!
I get 1 week!!
when I only turn it on to check the time :meh:
seriously...
wifi on 5 - 7 hours!? Using wifi saves battery i.e. doesn't drain it
Before my ph would run dead flat? - probably 36 - 48 hours depending on whether it's under heavy or moderate usage.
Think I may invest in 2000mAH battery to get 2 days out of ph...
I use my ph for work - so I charge it every night if it's below 50%...
Sounds interesting and logical. There are some apps that create large folders(iFunny=over 1GB last time I cleared)(I also had some random app making app backups without me knowing ).
I'm now flashing Hydra rom so I could try this out right now...
My record is about 3 days and 3-4 hrs but with minimal usage. With my normal usage I typicaly get about 2 days on ICS and a day - day and a half on GB.
My normal usage is some WiFi/H+ browsing or file transfer, a few pictures, music, a few calls and SMS and a coupe of apps, about 10 or so emails per day, lots of time and weather checks and etc. Generally I'm quite happy with the battery life since the move to ICS (stock, non-rooted).
I noticed this too, I backed up my phone and moved my files to micro sd, cleaned the internal storage and backed up apps, files you don't need to pc
you do get performance gains, my media scanner is shorter and its less awake if so,
i noticed as ics isnt 100% backwards compatible so androidos and media scanner was not far from display usage in battery information
OR you can just install Greenify without loosing any apps. Its on PlayStore, though it needs root. Perfect I'd say. Check it out.

How do i know which app takes battery of android os??

Yeah, I know, but somebody browsing through it can still come up and read and see for themselves. Right?

Use BetterBatteryStats. Very light, almost negligible battery use by itself, still monitors perfectly. This is what most pro developers use.

Use BetterBatteryStats. highly recommended.
hi. I am o supernexus build 5 wth siah kernel. I got round 7 hiurs if heavy usage on gs2. I've done facebook, viber, internet using stock browser and downloading around 200mb zip file. what can you say about this battery life. its my first time to use gs2 and I am using 2000mah. the battery life seems pretty bad in my opinion. I will attach screenshot of my hardware info, battery use and screen time. hoping for any opinions out there

I get a screen time of around 6-6.5 (full time on screen) hours. with EDGE on. so id say this is not the worst. your phone has been awake for like 4 hours. And you have active apps such as fb viber n whatsapp. And downloads as well. First usage can be inaccurate just try two to three full cycle charges and then get back im sure it will improve

That is actually my 7th day on that rom. Right now Im reverting to stock rom with the latest 4.1.2 baseband. The previous one uses an ICS baseband with jb rom. I dont know if that affects battery

i had it fully charged, when i plugged it off, turns out to be 98%

Not getting the same problem I guess my battery life is okay now. I was used to ics xperia neo which has a good battery life so maybe this is the reason im complaining for battery

Battery life feedback

I saw quite a few topics comparing consumption with various kernels, setups, roms. But most of those are done by one person using one phone with different setup. Even if there would be variety of people, the information would be lost in discussions. Here I want you to post structured informations about your achievements in battery usage. Please post in following structure:
1. Battery life hours;
2. Screen on time hours;
3. Battery type;
4. Rom
5. Kernel
6. Screenshots to prove 1 and 3
7. Special notes, like consumption in offscreen time, and during screen on or some special undervolting or anything else.
My desire to see world records in battery life discipline.
My personal records were done on gingerbread rom with don't remember what kernel and conditions but believe it was tegracs kernel.

test conditions
For a reliable test all must have the same apps and power mangment values.
Too many variables will lead to no conclusion.

To make it simpler, my idea was not testing but rather boasting about best results, records, Guinness book for i9100 stock hardware.

I can boast!
I just hit a new record. I'm on the Bell (Canadian Phone Company) official 4.1.2. I use greenify to hibernate things like facebook and keep them from running the background. I used titanium backup to disable a host of system programs that I don't use/need. I also have setCPU running at its default settings.
Last week I made it to 7d 54m 24s
I forgot to look how much screen time I used but it made up 25% of my power consumption. When I'm at home or at work I have access to a PC so I only use the phone for texting, checking the odd email etc....
If I'm out of town I might get 2 days on it. My average is 4-5 days. I must not have used it too much last week.
I also have an Anker battery in it (as my originals charge time started to decrease). It seems to do rather well (maybe even slightly better than the stock battery).

U dint attach the Main battery screen which indicates how many times u have charged. 7 hrs is believable. But 11 hrs!!
Pls provide the screenshots of those..

I didn't save the main screen, I think those shots were made about 3 years ago. And you just have to trust me that that 11 hours were true. BUT there's one trick here. My phone had an issue at that time, it couldn't go to sleep. I put it by my bed and closed flipper over the screen. When I woke up, I picked up the phone and noticed that screen was just a little darkened but not off. I looked at screen time and was shocked, made that screen... The rest you know. so, you right that this result is out of range.

I went 7 days before I had to charge it. There's no way that was 7 days of screen time.. lol. Maybe a few hours of screen time in there. If you click on the thumbnail it will go to imagebam and make it bigger.
I never thought to screenshot the detailed screen page where it says the hours you used. I just took that snapshot because I'd never made it to 7 days before (even though I rode it all the way down to 1% power). I also use an Anker battery in it, which seems to give it a smidge more power (even though the physical battery is the same size as a stock battery).

I got 2hrs of screen on time yesterday wid android 2.3.6 wid battery being 50% (I flashed for checking this only )
All time I was using net on edge..
So I assume 5 hrs screen on time wid gb is not a big deal...
Now I reverted back to stock 4.1.2 coz there are several features I missed in it..

Understand you, I also had tremendous results on gb (see first post) but everything is changing nowadays, and after sitting on jb for a while you can't go back even if you want.

Now on 4.3 I'm happy if I scratch 5 hours...
Always Samsung's stock 2000 mah battery.
One day i was sick at home and I got more then 8 hours screen on time but within 9 hours...

I used to do pretty good on stock ICS 4.0.4 roms. They never released 4.0.4 in Canada so I think I used a rom from the UK. It was really light on battery consumption. Way better than gingerbread, 4.0.3 or 4.1.2.
The only downside was wiping the phone with 4.0.4 using certain programs would brick the phone so I think alot of people avoid the 4.0.4 roms (and probably why the didn't finish spreading globally).
Wow.
You guys have some good results there.
But 7 days I can hardly believe.
Cheers.
