Recently updated to the 4.5.621.MB810 version and wanting to install the latest MIUI rom..is it possible and if so what are the steps I must take? Thanks in advance.
It is impossible. Sorry.
Clarification: .621 changed some things in the device that we can't undo, this made roms incompatible. Plus there is not a current root method, besides retaining root from a previous build.
Hopefully we will get a wave of roms based on .621 soon.

so I just got a replacement handset with the newest OTA... is there ANY way I can get to root from here? (Ultimately, I want to be running MIUI.. help getting from here to that install would be awesome!)
Thanks!

I can just sbf from it?! >_<;
Also, to get to 2.3.340 should i sbf the system only file or will that mess stuff up?

+1 on the Droid3 root method. Took the OTA for 602 on my son's stock DroidX and then ran the update right after. No problems.
I used this.

I also used the droid 3 method....worked perfect...thx

You can root via the instructions above but to get on MIUI you must first SBF to 2.3.34 (Google for more instructions), then root via Z4root, install Droid 2 Bootstrapper, then flash the MIUI rom via ClockworkMod Recovery.
Good luck! =D

Hello XDA, it has been a very long time since I have upgraded my droid x, and I have decided to finally take action.
I am currently running an old build of Liberty Mod that I installed a very long time ago for Android 2.2.1.
I have heard negative things about the newest update, so I was just wondering where I should find the correct update file for upgrading to the current rootable OTA and installing cyanogen.
All help is appreciated.
I was in a similar situation myself so I might've able to help. What I did was sbf to 2.2 (not sure of the sbf file name) then took the OTAs till I got to .605 (this was before the .621 was in soak test). Then I rooted and flashed cm. now since the .621 OTA is live you will have to be careful. I would suggest doing what I did except watch the name of the OTA VERY CAREFULLY. If you get prompted for the .621 do not take it as it is unrootable currently. I can get you links later when I'm at my computer if needed.

Thank you for the response. I see what you did worked, but I also found an interesting post on rootzwiki that would imply all you have to do is wipe, install the .605 AIO and then install the current CM4DX-GB. Should I just follow that guide?
Upgrading to .605 is really unnecessary. You can flash all Gingerbread and ICS roms from .602.
You just need to SBF to .602. From there you will be able to root and install CyanogenMod.

Thank you for your response. I went ahead and formatted, installed the team black hat .605 AIO, and then wiped again and installed cm4dx-gb. I'm really loving CM7 and Gingerbread. Thank you very much for all of the responses. This thread can be closed now.
Hi my friend's droid x was on a leaked version of gingerbread (4.5.588) and since it's been incredibly buggy I convinced him to try to update it to the latest version. Being a leak, obviously system updates won't work.
I found this file online of the .zip: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60354155/Blur_Version.4.5.621.MB810.Verizon.en.US.zip
The thing is it's only 15 MB, which makes me a little hesitant if it's a good .zip
If not, could anyone direct me to the official .621 update.zip? Thanks.
Edit: Actually, does someone have a link to the .602 official update? I can't find it anywhere online since a lot of the links were removed or on megaupload.
Actually, you should probably SBF to .602.
It will make sure that your phone won't have any leftover files after upgrading, and will ensure optimum perforemence.
Just Google "1kds 602 Linux SBF" and it should lead you to the files and instructions you need.
One last thing, instead of upgrading to .621, you should stay on .602, root, and flash one of the many great roms available.

Well I'm updating him to .596 right now. Will that allow system updates since that's official?
First off, I have a rooted GS2SR with CM9 and InstigatorX kernel. I have some experience rooting but my buddy's Droid X is throwing me for a loop. It's running FroYo 2.2.1 unrooted stock. He wants to upgrade it to ICS. What program do I need to get to interface with it to root it? He tried to do it himself and it was stuck in a bootloop. Had to sbf back to froyo 2.2.1 for it to do anything using RSD. These forums are a bit outdated and searching isn't working. Is it really just as simple as loading a .zip to root, loading the bootstrapper, flashing cwm, flashing the rom and voila? Modding my G2SR was easy, but this seems a bit more complex. Or if someone could simply link me to a thorough CM7/CM9 root-how-to forum that would be terrific. Thanks!
He needs to take the latest OTA update, then follow this guide:

No no no! Do not update firm ware until you root your phone!
Root your phone via Pete's then dl voodoo Rota rootkeeper follow directions THEN do the ota.
And make sure read about any issues before flossing any Rom.

Hi all,
First of all, I am an Evo LTE owner so forgive my lack of knowledge regarding SBFs / anything Motorola. I am looking to flash CM onto a DX at a friend's request. The phone in question is running the latest OTA and is fully stock.
I saw the thread over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823112&page=2 with a new direct root method - is it possible to flash CM7 or any other custom ROM given this? I have seen a lot of comments that you can't downgrade to an older SBF and that CM4DX-GB seems to want a .605 SBF or something like that, I believe this phone is .621.
Is it possible to root the .621 with the "direct" method above, flash CWM and then flash CM or something?
Any help would be appreciated!
If you're on .621 you can absolutely flash Cm7. You need only root via the direct root method you linked, install recovery via Droid 2 Bootstrapper, and flash the ROM plus Google apps

Thanks so much. Do I need to flash CM4DX-GB or whatever that custom build is, or are the latest CM7 officials on the GB kernel? (From reading threads looks like they were Froyo for a while.)
Edit: Am I using this (D2B) or this (DXB)? What is the difference?
Don't flash the official builds. Flash the custom builds from Root wiki.
I recommend using D2B since DXB doesn't work unless USB Debugging is enabled. You can use either.

This should work over. 621?
