I just tried it. So far, the only thing special about it is the edit mode. Obviously a very early beta.
The buttons at the top of the screen are kinda too big for my taste.
Also this isn't ICS exclusive. It's for android 3.0 and up.
Does that have any effect on performance and features when used on ICS compared to other launchers that are ICS exclusive?
One thing I noticed is that the Go Launcher HD's app drawer doesn't show your widgets like the stock ICS app drawer. It only has a tab for "GoWidgets".

Nobody said it was ICS exclusive. It is for tablets (and I'm afraid most tablets are still running Honeycomb).
The two ICS only launchers (Nova and Apex) are far more buggy for me sadly.
I expect many more features in the coming updates (the Go Developers are usually quite fast), of course this is Beta 1 (or 2 by now) but its working pretty well for me, altough it may not be the one for everyone. I don't know if the Widgets in the drawer will be added at some point, but even if they were, you would still need root access to use that (like with Nova and Apex).

I know nobody said it was ICS exclusive. Not sure why you are so defensive. I was just wondering about the performance and optimization of ICS exclusive launchers vs non ICS exclusive launchers when used on ICS.
As far as I know, there are 3, not two, ICS only launchers: Nova, Apex and Trebuchet. They aren't really buggy, especially not "far more buggy". Anyway you shouldn't be comparing them to Go HD beta in terms of bugs since the current Go HD beta barely even has any features to be bugged.
The stock launcher has widgets in app drawer though. It's one of the additional features of ICS. So I personally wouldn't like a custom launcher on my ICS that doesn't have that feature. Rooting is easy so I don't care if custom launchers need root to enable it.
Anyhow, stop trying to defend Go Launcher against my opinion. This isn't a Go Launcher fan forum.

I'm not defending Go Launcher, you just have your opinion and I have mine. In my case Apex and Nova have had too many crashes and sometimes sluggish screen transitions (Trebuchet, being the standard launcher of CM9, isn't an alternative for my unrooted TF101) but I may try them again (I change my laucher of choice every once in a while anyway), because they definitely offer some great things that are missing in the Go Launcher Beta (although the graphical widget picker is not that vital for me)- on the other hand the Beta also has some nice unique features like the comfortable edit mode, nice editing of folders and the ability to have folders in the app drawer, sorting apps by most used, the built in task manager- probably more to come. I am just interested in the progress of this project, if you don't like it you don't need to use it.

New launchers are always welcome. I'm using ADW for its slew of options I'm am able to get a good setup. I solely use Go Launcher for family members and their tablets because I like the Lock, hide, and task manager abilities.
Will give this a run and see how I like it.

this launcher totally rocks my socks. don't get why horndroid is crying.
go Widgets also look awesome on tablets.
why doesn't the android keyboard auto capitalize? I fully turned it on in the settings.

Wondering if you are using the tablet beta or the regular Go Launcher Ex? When I tried adding the Go Widgets got the message "you need Go Launcher Ex".

Seems a nice launcher, works fine, nice interface especially the one to add icons to a screen, like it !!!
still some issues, adding widgets is not always smooth: sometime widgets appear empty, and the solution is to restart the launcher.
and still it has very little options and customizations compared to the Go Launcher Ex.

Sounds strange, I'm also using the nice Go Widgets (you see the twitter widget in the video) and they work flawlessly.
There's even am option in the tablet beta for them (e.g. the dedicated Go Widgets tab in the app drawer) that gives you a direct link to the market. And when you download one you should have the option to click and hold on one of these Widgets in this separate section and drag it on one screen.

[Q] What home do you use? ADW, LP, TW, AOSP??

Hey guys. Kinda new around here, figured I'd post a poll and get to know the community somewhat. Feel free to take a look and choose an answer Anyways, were never going to find a definitive answer to whats better, LP, ADW, etc etc... there are many threads arguing the validity of why each one could be better than the next. It's all a matter of personal preference IMO and I really don't care why you hate one. All I'm wondering is which one you use yourself. Just to get a feel for what everyones using out there. Thanks! Of course you can leave supporting info to why you love the one you use, just try not to start arguing why one is great and OP Is a nubsauce and all that other junk! Thanks again!
My Vote goes to LP or LPP just probably because it's the one I'm most comfortable with and know the best. I can change anything on the fly and know right where it is under settings/on my home sreens. Just a personal preference. How about you?
Back when I had my Nexus, the first nonstock launcher I used was ADW because it was included in CyanogenMod.
ADW is nice in the fact that its really customizable, and that there are the swipe features. I tried Launcher Pro once or twice back then, but didn't like the dock and its white/grey icons.
Recently I got LauncherPro Donate, and now its the ONLY one I use. Combined with LauncherPro Icons, you get ultimate customization of the dock/icons. The swipe-able dock is freakin AWESOME, and the LP Widgets are perfect for what I want!
Being able to resize widgets, have scrolling widgets, combined with the speed of LP makes it the winner for me.
Launcher pro plus.
Customization is the best.
Don't care about themes.
Great dev support.
i use touchwiz with my epic experience rom because its well part of the epic experience
+i love the samsung widgets
I use launcher pro.
No lag on my epic, customizable dock bar with 5 icons. Does what I want.

I prefer ADW... my homescreen is completely blank with no status bar and only the app menu. and i swipe up for txt messages and down for phone/contacts. all my setscpu, cache clear, terminal, etc. is on the left screen and entertainment/work on the right screen. It feels very clean and customized.
(This is williams friend)
Touchwiz, and love it. No root, no roms, just stock.
Im rockin launcher pro plus and loving it
Tapatalkin' it from my EPIC 4g
I'm over from Winmo and brand new to the Epic and Android...I have Launcher Pro Plus on now but want to go back and try TW again until I learn more about Android. Is there a way to switch back and forth after you have chosen LP? I did have a option before. Sorry for the dumb question. I think LP is better but I need to keep it simple for now.
Try livehome. Its like adw+launcher pro but it also gives you transition animations like book page turning or 3d cube. I've used it for about a week now and I love it
Epic 4g
I would like to reitterate that my phone is much stronger than yours...
Launcher Pro. I love how many options it gives you. For example, I switch back and forth between this 2 setups:

^^ This uses the scrollable Dock of LP to allow me 3 rows of shortcuts, 3 of which are folders. I never have to place icons on my homescreens. Just widgets.
^^ This is just a really fun setup inspired by a thread in the EVO forums.

So if I use launcher pro on a rom like uncommon or another sense default system, will Rosie and the sense still eat up memory/CPU? Also what app is a good alternative for the clock/timer/stopwatch in sense?

Let's talk launchers !

What launcher should someone with a heavy passion for themes use?
Smoothest launcher other than TouchWiz ?
What do you guys use?
I use go launcher. It's free and really nice. Although I did roll back to an earlier version because one of the updates wasn't to my liking.
Tried loads, always return to go launcher.

If you like themes then I guess Go launcher is your best bet. I like Launcherpro / Launcher7 and those both are themable quite easily too
I alternate from TW 4.5 and GoLauncher, so far the latest update of GoLauncher is a winner for me. It's like the Charlie Sheen of Launchers.
Without doubt go launcher is the most functional and customizable launcher you can get and its free.

I'm struggling to see that as a compliment. I switched from LauncherPro to Go Launcher recently and haven't regretted the decision. I miss LauncherPro's built-in scrollable widgets, but have replaced those with Android Pro Widgets instead.
I'd been getting issues for some time with LauncherPro freezing for ages on startup, Go Launcher has no such problems and with the most recent update has the 3D app drawer too; bonus.
I use Go Launhcer!! A very good app, with lots of customizations ans a very active dev...Not very smooth as TW launcher though...
Go Launcher is ace, it has alot of themes out for it and i belive the devs also have a program to assist people in building there own.
For me its Go Launcher + Matted Blue theme = win.
I use SPB Shell 3D, works like a charm with the S2 and gives me all that I want!!
Having tried a few - openhome,go launcher and the original launcher, I came to the conclusion that ADW ex is the best of the bunch, runs smoothly, very customizable, including home icon size, home grid customization, and the screen transitions, appdock and drawer options are out of this world.
Most of the ones available on the Market are very good, and there's very little between them. TBH, the best thing you can do is just try them all and see which you prefer. Personally, I'm all over the GO apps at the minute - Launcher, SMS Pro, Contacts, Dialer - they're all great!
Seriously - ignore everyone and just try them all yourself for a day or two.

Sums up the Go launcher to a tee, this quotation, rather a mess, not as slick as others, a bit of a hodge podge, although Charlie Sheen goes one step further and equates to a complete W&$ker
I have tried so many launcher spent way to much time faffing about with them, back with TW, so slick and fast, and does everything I need.

What's the best launcher for 7" (and small) tablets?

I have a nook colour, using phiremod. In the past I've tried CM and MIUI as well. My main issue is that I haven't been able to find a decent, fast and good-looking launcher that is designed specifically for 2.x tablets. They will either have launch buttons on the right (in both portraid and landscape modes) or some other issue such as bad performance.
Could you suggest some good alternate launchers?

The reason for this is most likely due to the fact that 2.x builds aren't designed for tablets. If you're looking for a lightweight, fast launcher that still allows some customization, try Zeam. It's been my launcher of preference for some time. But then I was never one for all the system hogging eye-candy that many others offer...
LauncherPro or Zeam. LauncherPro offers a bunch of themes while still having a somewhat low memory print, low enough to actually enjoy the Tablet experience, while Zeam is more aimed at being a critical memory saver, giving you only the very bare bone screen setup.
tried a bunch and found launcher pro to be the fastest on the nook color
LauncherPro is updated so infrequently though... The last update was in May.
Update or not, Launcherpro is still my choice of launcher. Just fits my needs and runs the smoothest on my nook.
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium
Adw ex would be the choice if you're into customization.
Tapatalkin' it from my rooted NookColor running CM7 Nightly 253m overclocked @ 1.2 GHz
I personally like Go Launcher, I used to use ADW and Launcher pro(on my phone) but the folder system in the app drawer makes me go back to Go Launcher.
Its a little funky on tablets though, the app drawer can only be set to 5x5 but if you set the Icon Size to 64 it looks and feels fine(Character Setting > Icons > Icon Size).
A second thumbs up for Go Launcher Ex. A whole slew of themes that you can download for free, and more customizable than Zeam but less issues with it than I had with ADW Launcher Pro.
They've got a ton of widgets and apps to go with it. I'm using the Contacts app and SMS app on my Optimus V since they're worlds better than the default Froyo one.
The only caveat I would give is that the version of Go Launcher Ex on Google Market seems (more updated/recent) to be more intrusive than the one on Amazon App Store --- I had quite a bit of "HEY GO BUY THIS FROM US TO GO WITH YOUR COOL FREE LAUNCHER" things pop up with the Google Market version, none with the Amazon App Store version.
I've always been a Launcher Pro guy on both my devices. Even with its lack of recent updates, it has unrivaled performance. With the Nook Color I just get rid of all the icons on the dock except the app drawer icon and go with a 10x10 single home screen setup. There is room for everything I want to use on that one screen.
Here's a screen capture of mine from a while back.

VTL Launcher
VTL Launcher was based on ADW Ex, I believe. It was tweaked with 2.x tablets in mind. I have it setup on my NC w/ CM7.2, configured with one dock bar on the bottom that rotates when I rotate. It is really configurable but with a tablet in mind. Grab it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046302
or go to the market and pay if you decide you like it and want to support the developer.

Ask Samsung to keep Google AOSP Launcher and Keyboard available in their ICS releases

Hi there!
Following a simple question asked today on twitter:
Would you like Samsung to keep Google official Launcher and Keyboard as built-in alternative in their upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich releases.
I'm very confident this poll will be eventually read by people @Samsung and I need your help and weight to push this idea further.
Answers on twitter showed a very clear trend: Now let's convince Samsung
Launcher:
My personal opinion is that TouchWiz launcher has been a lot smoother and easier to organize than Google/AOSP launcher2 on Eclair, Froyo and Gingerbread.
I'm very much impressed by ICS Launcher so I'd like to be able to choose it as alternative to TW, at least to try it as it's just beautiful.
Keyboard:
I'm testing almost every keyboard on market and tend to return to Smart Keyboard Pro every time. ICS keyboard seems to have reach a new level, I'd very much like to have it as well.
Note:
I know some of you hate TouchWiz for historical reason. I respect everyone's opinion ^^
If I can ask you one thing: try to write messages as efficient as possible to motivate Samsung people, knowing they have to keep TouchWiz stuff because it's the product people bought with Gingerbread.
Edit: Please remember the poll is not "will Samsung listen to us" or not. Things are evolving in a good way even if I cannot guarantee the result.

Hey,
I'm asking here if you would like Launcher to be available in the ROM (you know, as alternative home).
Of course I don't believe Samsung would make AOSP Launcher the default one, nor that it would be a good idea − just confusing user with change.

When I say disagree, actually I don't.. why not have the choice to go back to stock.
Without a doubt! Also Samsung please make TouchWIZ 4 on SGS3 look less cartoonish
Do it, Samsung!
They should keep the official ICS launcher
If they don't then there is a thing called Android Market
I don't care about keyboard as long as Swype is included.
Fully supported this cause! I think the TouchWiz does not correlate well with the ICS. Samsung, please do not force us to have to resort to custom-rom as the Galaxy S!

Yup its true we'll find AOSP launcher on Market as well.
However experience seems to show AOSP launcher on market are:
- Commercial
or..
- Not updated (might stay a buggy and/or vulnerable 4.0.1 launcher forever)
That's the main reason I believe a built-in AOSP launcher is easier and safer.
I vote keep the original launcher.
Sorry Samsung, you are covering up a thing of beauty this time.

Right.
Samsung also should understand that mixing TW with Gingerbread is a completely different thing than doing the same with ICS.
Some things are good on it's own.
Samsung could make TW default but give users an option to disable it to go stock. Have options is what many Android users want, so going along with this crowd can never be wrong

Yes I'm sure they must be working hard right now to blend ICS and the existing Touchwiz user experience while keeping something consistent visually and in terms of features.
This request seems reasonable, I only hope they won't perceive the idea of keeping ICS Launcher as well as an equivalent of "we failed to merge TW and ICS, why we kept ICS launcher".
That's not my opinion. It's really about ease and choice
I personally thing with the built in option to freeze/disable apps. That if they included the AOSP launchers and keyboards then that would do away with the need to root for alot of users. I see alot of people rooting to remove bloat and get rid of the touchwiz launcher. Now I know that you could just install both but lauchers always seem to run better from the system/app folder as do keyboards. For me at least. I think it would be a good move on Samsungs part to take the advice here and just leave the two apks in there.
Sent from a Blazed SGS II
I've been using ICS on my old SGS1 since it was ported by teamhacksamsung until now. Why? Because it is better than the previous ginger and froyo even when Touchwiz on top of it. I like Touchwiz better than any other launchers out there(on my SGS1 & SGS2) but when using it on my SGS1 it changed my mind. So +1 on supercurio's perception on this. Sadly still using Touchwiz on my SGS2 but still waiting for samsung or teamhacksamsung to release it for SGS2 and of course with stock ICS
Dear Samsung if you really care about your customers you would probably listen to us. We know you are very proud of Touch Wiz. Actually Touch Wiz 4 is pretty good has a lot of great features but you have to understand that there is no launcher like the new AOSP one. Is so great, still so easy to use, is the greatest ever made. So please, we don't ask you to drop Touch Wiz but to include also the ICS AOSP launcher as an option in ROMs and we promise you we will not uninstall the your Touch Wiz. Just think about it. Is like your Pure Breeze UI. You could include it in your ROM and make your ROMs a bit user friendly.
Also please Samsung. We all love swype and we appreciate your standard keyboard. I know people who really do. But you have to understand again, that the new ICS keyboard is so great, it brings us to a new keyboard standard. We don't ask you again to drop Samsung keyboard support but to add it into the ROMs so we can chose what keyboard you like. Don't make us to go chaseing for Custom ROMs when we could just use yours if you listen to our wilshes.
And a final demand Samsung, please support developers more. The Samsung Developer Community is pretty big and great and I'm sure you don't want to lose them. Team Hacksung and other developers (Supercurio too, Chainfire etc.) are doing a great job but without your support there is nothing. They need you to be cooperative, to help them with info, documentations, source codes when they need them. It would be better for everyone and your sales would grown even more if you are more friendly with community.
We thank you Samsung for your great devices and please, listen to our wishes and make them happen.
TW is great until ICS . The ICS launcher is just too great to skip.
Still, I think the best we can hope for is TW launcher ICS ver.
TouchWiz was great for gingebread as it provided a much smoother experience than any other phone/launcher. On ICS, it doesn't have that advantage, so I see no reason to keep TouchWiz alive. It only slows down updates(requires much more work from samsung, in terms of testings, customizing etc. and time=money), so it would benefit both parties to just provide a stock experience.
54 Yes already.
1 No, 1 I don't care.
Thank you it proves the results are not forged

Just wondering if there are any custom themes in the make just something different than the stock look? Different icons and such?

Different custom ROMs sometimes come with themes you can flash. If you're not rooted, you're not going to be able to apply a theme anyway.

Unless you mean something like a custom Launcher. I use KJY's ROM but I have ADW launcher EX running on my tab. If I can recall correctly I think its the only custom launcher that has honeycomb support. With it I can change the icons to whatever I like (but your home, back and task switcher buttons will always look the same unless you download one of KJY;s themes, which are pretty slick).

Go launcher works with tablets, but it acts like a phone would.Same with lwuncher pro. I recently tried a bunch trying to find one that supports the stock app drawer (with no luck).

Alright 2 launchers, but ADW is a little more affordable. I know the other launchers work too, but most of them you can't get from the market because they are deemed "incompatible", you will have to get them from other sources.
ADW actually has a tablet interface. I have attached a screen shot of it.

Was just giving the OP another choice lol
I just saw that new 3D launcher just minutes before I posted here.
It's expensive, but it's pretty slick!
I'd actually like to see Google incorporate something like that into Android!

Something on Go Launcher: I just read that the dedicated tablet version will come in the coming month.

GO Launcher should release that asap I love SPB SHELL 3D but .. you can't customize it much Is very pretty though and well put together.
Adw has a crap load of themes and you can download these to spice up any theme.

That's what Android is all about right? Choice
I am currently using the SPB Shell 3D. I do really like it. I would however love to have the Go Launcher. That's what I use on my phone and I love it. I don't have any reason aside from themes to root my Iconia, so I won't. I think the Go Launcher and ADW Launcher are about the best options for theming for now.
i have adw launcher ex but I was talking about different flashable theme with a whole new look with different fonts and buttons colors etc...
Yea agreed but I wish go launcher tablet would be available cuz the current version lags during screen transition and after about an hour of use it asked about my resolution in which case it changes it to tiny mode with icons the size of half of the original .. I think every launcher development team is now seeing that tablets tegra 2 10.1 are dropping in price so more people are picking them up before they are discontinued for new tegra 3 devices.

Once again if you're not rooted there is nothing you can do!
If you are, there are quite a few stock based, and non-stock based ROMs that have flashable themes for them
