Changing Boot Animation:
1. Stock Android is Default!
2. If you wish to Change to Nexus boot or something else.. place the .zip into /system/media/bootanimation.zip
3. Changing Back to Stock Vibrant Boot Screen Do the Following.
3.1. Adb pull /system/init.rc
3.2 Find bootanimation & change to the Following.
#service bootanim /system/bin/bootanimation
# user graphics
# group graphics
# disabled
# oneshot
3.3 Next you need to Push samsungboot.qmp & samsungbootloop.qmp into /system/media
4. Push the edited init.rc back to /system/init.rc
5. All Done, Enjoy!
I have also run into the same problem, but with a different method for changing the boot animation. When I go into change it by replacing the boot animation files in system/media, i get the same result. I also get the same result when I use one of the older flashable zip files. Does anyone know what we're missing? I didn't have this problem until recently so was something changed? I've tried it with several roms with the same results including but not limited to Onyx 5 beta, as well as froyo jk6 no bloat.
Anyone? I also want to know
You cwn get boot animations app and choose from like 100 of them..I use the android peeing on the apple!
Sent from my T-Mobile Galaxy Tab
I tried the boot animation app as well and it essentially replaced the flashing 'android' instead so something has got to have changed somewhere because it changed something else...
I would also like to know this. I actually happened to like the bootup screen for the i9000 that I had on J16.
That's because it all depends on the kernel you guys are using and what the init script for the ROM calls for.
If you searched you would also find out that bootanimations are changed in most kernel's under /data/local instead of /system/media
Still no luck.. any other ideas??

I followed the below instructions to change the Boot Animation on my Vibrant (using the qmp files, since i cant find a the same in bnootanimation.zip form), but have run into a problem. I see the Galaxy S logo swirling, but i also saw the MACNUT R14 bootanimation flashing in every frame.
I even deleted the bootanimation.zip but then see the ANDROID logo every other frame. I have attached my inti.rc file so tat maybe someone can see if i missed something? Please help if you can!

Android stores boot animations in two places, not just one. Go to data/local and you should see another bootanimation file in there. That is the stock android bootanimation. Delete that and it should run normally. That's why you're seeing the ANDROID logo every other frame.

i checked in System/media but there is no bootanimation.zip
i wanna change boot animation please tell me the location
THanks
I don't believe there is a boot animation included, beyond the built in AOSP "android" one.
In previous android versions you could simply drop your bootanimation.zip into /data/local and as long as the permissions are set correctly then you're good to go. Back up and give it a try.
Although if /system/media is void of a bootanimation.zip then it should work there alternately. The /data/local folder I prefer because the boot animation will persist if an update is flashed.
hey!
I got a S4 i9515
I think its nearly the same as i9505 (LTE/4G)
ROOTED 5.0.1 + TWRP 3.0.2.0
I made myself a boot animation and it works fine, I tested it on my Xperia Z5 but the S4 doesnt accept it
the resoluion is correct
720x1280 30FPS loop
normally you have to replace the bootanimation.zip and give the permissions -rw --- ---
I did that but there was no bootanimation zip before pasting it into /system/media
there are only these files:
audio (folder)
video (folder)
battery_cover.spi
batter_error.spi
battery_low.sp
battery_temperature_error.spi
battery_temperature_limit.spi
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
bootsamsungminiloop.qmg
dock_error.spi
incompatible_charger.spi
lcd_density.txt
particle_intro.spi
particle_loop.spi
percentage.spi
shutdown.qmg
shutdown.qmg.cover
wave_loop.spi
wireless_left.spi
wireless_right.spi

I also tried installing the bootanimation with this app, which I always use for my Z5
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations&hl=de
didn`t work
some people wrote that I should paste the zip into /data/local but this did not work
and changing permissions didn`t work as well
then I tried this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/themes-apps/homemade-bootanimations-collection-how-t1897969
I flashed the custom_bootanimation_44.enable zip but now the normal samung boot animation is gone and the screen is black till the S4 fully booted up
First of all, the resolution of the S4 is 1080x1920 (Full HD).
Second, TouchWiz uses a different kind of format for the boot animation, which is why yours doesn't work.
It will work on any other custom ROM based on AOSP or Lineage/CM, but no on TouchWiz.
Plus, you need to convert boot animations to Samsung's .qmg format if you want to use it on TouchWiz.

WARNING!!!Please follow the steps carefully!!! I or anyone else isn't responsible for bricked, soft bricked, boot looped or any other thing with your device.
Prerequisites:
Rooted device
Boot animation with proper resolution and .jpg or .PNG images. ( PNG tested by @Arcayne )
Steps :
Go to Root/Version and copy all the folders.
Then navigate to Root/system and paste everything. Merge the .bin folder and skip for the remaining files.
Navigate again to Root/Version/special_cust/..../parent_cust.cfg
Open parent_cust.cfg > change parent_cust_path=/version.... to parent_cust_path=/system
Save the file
Install the boot animation zip using any app or manually. ( For manual installation, save the .zip in /system/media/bootanimation.zip
If there isn't much space in /system do the following :
Boot to twrp
Go to wipe menu
Advanced wipe
Check for system partition
Choose resize
