No referrals, no BS. Straightfoward. If you're familiar with dropbox, then you'll feel right at home.
What it is, is free private online storage.
Dropbox accounts have free 2GB accounts, currently upgradeable to 7GB if you use their BETA apk.
It's nice to have extra space for personal important files online.
If you're like me, and you work for businesses that require you to safely archive work you do for them, or if you just want a lot of space, Box.com is having a promotion where you're automatically upgraded to 50GB of online storage free, forever.
Sure, I still could use my dropbox for my personal life, or sharing files with my friends, but professionally speaking, my personal dropbox account is neither enough, or correct to share my work files in. On top of that, when you design on Photoshop, working with 100s of layers can amount to monstrous file sizes.

Box has a 100mb file or folder upload limit. That is, you cannot upload a folder that is greater than 100mb. They also limit uploads to 5-50KB/s. I worked around the first issue by mapping my box account as a network drive. Uploaded a folder of mp3 files, 1 album, which was 109mb. It took 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Don't sign up to box thinking that you are getting 50gb off usable storage. No one has the patience to fill up 50gb.

+1 about the 100mb file size.. It is a big limitation, and upgrading will cost you $15/month, which is too pricey for me for what I would use it for.
Old promotion for iOS and WebOS devices allowed files up to 1GB in size. Those are accounts are pretty useful; this 100MB type is much less so.
Dropbox app and http limit is 300MB/file, or unlimited (4GB?) using their desktop software.
Oh, and check out 4Shared if you work with large files. They have an Android app as well.

Dropbox's beta apk allows 500+mb files.

i have an iOS activated 50GB Box account and the file size limit is definitely not 1GB, it's still 100MB.
Dropbox allows 5GB files if you use their software.

Hi there. I just bought Galaxy 8gb yesterday. Today i've noticed that in my either computer or in phone settings it showing me only 5.78gb. So where is my 2gb gone? Help please.
Still there. 1+Gb is partitioned for applications. The remaining 5.78Gb something is for your personal storage.

Samsung uses the 2Gb to store the cache of applications. It is formatted in a different filesystem and not supposed to be accesible to the user. Thats why you only see about 6GB.

Thanks guys.
that is why the 16 GB version is better
16 GB version have the same 2GB partition for applications.
The difference is that you have 14GB left rather than 6GB.
I use to remember on my old old original Palm V almost 10 years back, it only have 2MB and THAT was considered a lot for all your contacts.
Talking about Palm V, I still have it and it is sturdy as rock! I wish Samsung or other manufacturers learned from the past. The curves and the feel of the magnesium alloy is unbeatable.

GSMarena then is incorrectly listing the details:
Internal 8 GB/16GB storage, 512 MB RAM, 2GB ROM
When I read this I assumed 512MB for CPU, 2GB ROM for operating system, 8/16GB for applications and storage.
What your saying is the 2GB ROM is actually a partition of the 8/16GB?
Then is that not false advertisement or am I missing something.
That's not correct either. There is a 2gb rom chip but in order to allow you to install more application (especially things like navigators) samsung moved the cache for the applications off the ROM in order to save space there.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
indeed.
i still have and use my old Palm 650 and 600
i still cook update ROMs to reflash it every now and then to keep it current, and squeeze every little bit of RAM i can out of it, else it runs with a log of lag without enough free RAM

So, if everything went okay, you will now have a 50GB box.net account. But what's the use of it when it doesn't support synchronization? Well, there's an app for that!
Click on the image below to go the the apps page...
I'm not sure if it works with the lite version (I guess it does), but I'm using the paid version.
First: add your box.net account in "accounts", then go to "folder pairs" and select the folders to sync.
Done!

Sign in with your User ID and password using the box.net app, mate. It'll auto-upgrade your account.

50 GB are not redundant)) must be put
box.net is the worse company i got into using.
You cant sync your files with a folder on your computer without a paid account.
I uninstalled and IĀ“m trying to aware everyone to do this to.
bad way of gaining new clients....
It wouldve been interesting to experience this with unlimited and high speed internet on my phone but sadly cant afford it. Thanks anyways for the app!
thanks for the link dude
Dropbox is much better in functionality, making this 50gig not so useful.
Well I'm use this to make backup of whole my e-books collection Tnx dude
And about Dropbox I think that Box.net sync sucks (Dropbox have better sync)
Thanks for the info! I am a dropbox user who has reached his free space limit. Thus the 50gb should come in handy. I hope the comments about Box are a bit exagerated.

Well i tried this service called 'Box'. It has just started and they are giving 50gb storage to all users who register till 23 March ( according to the Google play).
Well i tried it and got my 50 gig share. If you guys want it for personal or development use i recomend you to register as fast as possible. It is exactly like dropbox!

The service is a little less then I expected though: Box doesn't offer a free PC sync solution like dropbox does. It has one, but its paid.
Nice thing is, that you can still mount http://box.net/dav as a network drive.
The 50GB promotion is over.
@PG101 You can now delete / close the thread if you want.
Okay. So I used to have a blackberry paired with an unlimited bis before I switched to android.
I didn't subscribe to a data plan because we finally now have wifi in the house. But now, I'm kind of missing emailing/chatting on the go. Even posting sns statuses whenever I feel like it.
So I've looked at some data plans my carrier are currently offering and found the following:
8.00 USD for 300mb
16.00 USD for 1gb
And that's monthly. The unlimited data costs about 26 USD a month.
Now my dilemma.
Here's my data consumption on wifi

As you can see, I consumed 20gb in 2 weeks. Granted, minus 10gb for youtube and the podcasts, still, that's 10gb in 2 weeks.
And specially now that I don't have a job, I just can't afford that unlimited data plan. So the only option that I'm currently looking at is that 300mb a month one.
Can I survive with only just 300mb a month?
I know that this has been probably asked a thousand times before, but I don't have access to a computer right now so I'm using Tapatalk. And the search feature on this is next to useless.
I hope someone can help me with this and give advice and steps to take in order to minimize my data consumption if I ever do decide to sign up for a data plan.
Sent from my MK16i using Tapatalk 2
Also. Can somebody tell what could android be possibly doing to consume this much data in background?
Sent from my MK16i using Tapatalk 2
The background data is for Gmail syncing and stuff I think. You'd be best turning it off and on and maybe limiting yourself to Edge/2G until you need the 3/4G so you don't use that much.
Well for the iphone, one big way of saving data is through Onavo.
It basically compresses the data on their server and then sends it over. maybe theres an android alternative
