[Q] What are the different u8800 models?

Hi, i've been looking around the forums but havent found anything about this. I just purchased a u8800-51 phone, but apparently, there are many simmilar models and not all softwares, custom roms, recovery menus, etc work on all devices.
So, my main question is, what are the different models available and which ones are simmilar or should be capable of using the same roms.
So far i've seen:
- u8800-51
- u8800
- u8800pro
- u8800+

u8800-51 is same as impulse 4g (if i remember correcly)
u8800 is the basic phone. Check info from google.
u8800h is same as u8800 only with hspa+ and faster hsupa. can use u8800 rom but lose hspa+(?)
u8800pro has different processor, so it has its own roms.
so only u8800 and u8800h can use same roms.

For the u8800-51 it also comes with HSPA+ (at least in my country) but as far as i know it doesnt have any 4 G capabilities. Maybe its just a name the gave it to make it look cooler.

anybody knows if the 8800-51 coan use the same roms as the 8800 or not?? as far as i can see, they are exactly the same phone, only difference is that one has radio and the other one doesnt.

U8800 has an FM radio. Check this thread. It doesn't work on 2.3 unfortunately, but we can confirm U8800 has it.

yes, i know it has the radio but its not working. the problem is that i have an 8800-51, and i want to know if it is safe to install a 8800 rom.
As far as i know, maybe i will loos the FM capability, but that would be all or not?

has anybody tried a u8800pro ROM on the u8800-51 phone?

Hi All,
Found the port of miui V4 for HD2 but it is older version and very laggy.
Can someone please port the latest version of MIUI V4 to HD2 or guide me step by step to do it. I tried porting latest V4 build for Nexus S with dsixda kitchen but could not get it to boot

Why don't you just go to Galmets website and download from there they already have ports made even ics

The Above one is actual ICS port from Nexus S released by MIUI not just the ICS framework.

wait... ICS for HD2 from MIUI Team? how true? I've check on miuiandroid sites that even it's written ICS 4.0 but only for Nexus S other devices still remains 2.3.7

I am highly interested in this. I have the latest rom MIUI actually shows on their website. 2.1.6 I am downloading this right now.. Hopefully it isn't in chinese like the website!

Before flashing modify these lines in Build.prop to look like
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=GB

True, but considering we have the skills to port Miui V4 across to any device which has an already supported ICS rom, I think people call for us without thinking.
Shame really that we aren't allowed to post on XDA as we would be able to supply what others are wanting.
Ah well, what can I say, XDA and it's users shot themselves in the foot.

galnet can you guide me to port this Latest miui v4 ROM to HD2. I am trying to port latest nexus S rom to Hd2 using Tytungs ICS ROM. If you can provide steps to port would be much appreciated. . there are few thousands users of miui HD2 user waiting impatiently for ICS MIUI.

google galnet and you will find his website with a bunch of roms including hd2
it looks better than miui and was the first to start porting ics features in there roms though.
why can't you post your galnet roms here?
and what other ones are you not supposed to post?

Some time ago I found this rom, which works fine in our U8800-51.

It has some beauty animations in menu options, fine font, 3g works, bluetooth stop working after a while I don't know why.
Everything else works fine, it even has toggle buttons.
Base band 404020
As usual, you must backup IMEI and APN before flashing this one.
This rom is for a U8800PRO, but it works in our U8800-51
Give it a try!
Known bug, backlights doesn't work.
Best for backup/restore previous rom: LINUX
BACKUP #dd if=/dev/sdX of=u8800-51.DATE.img bs=512
RESTORE #dd if=u8800-51.DATE.img of=/dev/sdX bs=512
X=system gives a letter to this, if no other drive connected, it usually is "b" so "sdX" should be "sdb", check it with "mount" command.

Just flashed the rom, wifi works great ..seems to run nice and quickly.. love it!! Thanks.

I don't know what works for your -51, because i cant test it (i have pro...)

Both ROMs are based (approx 6 months ago) on Dzo's aurora but Popaura is combined with Popcorn v6... maybe files from Popcorn work on -51, i don't know :/
I forget which files I took from which rom, it was so long ago, i am sorry.
I have to say that I am not a developer, I'm just "playing" with ROMs, test it and publish here on XDA. The fact that these versions work (more or less) on the -51 is just pure coincidence...
Shendu has an entirely different basis.

popaura rom
I had an app crashing on popaura rom (furby app for my daughter) so I Installed the aurora 4.0 4.0.4 rom and it works great now.

I can not turn off animations (do not like)
the rest is very good
I used two days and I can say it's stable, but the mother returned to CM7 just because they can apply themes. even more customization

Just share to you all MIUI v4 based on dzo Aurora v5.0 update 9.
This ROM is from Geno release 3.1.11, and i have cleaned almost all China apps, setting default language = EN.

Note: Anyone who has the issue "com.android.phone" on PIN screen, just delete the "STK.apk" in the system/app in the zip file before flashing the ZIP. Sorry, this is the only way i can do to fix this, if you know how to fix this, please share
Here's the details what i've done and some notes:
- Need to resize partition. (flash the file in attachment and follow the step in this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803746)
- Google Play included
- B528 File Manager Included
- qcom_cfg.ini tweak (by sbasil)
- Razr bootanimation.
- Multi languages (EN default)
- Deleted almost all china apps.
- Updated APN list for some Mobile carriers (this will fix bug: the phone is not auto recognized some carriers APN for Mobifone, Viettel,...of Vietnam and more , this bug already present on Aurora).
- Change composition type to gpu to fix corrupted fonts and some graphics issues.

-Removed LBESEC_MIUI.apk
-Added MIUI Security (its basically the permissions management part of LBE, with super user control added, Superuser is enabled by default, and the prompts for each application only have 2 dialogs to click through (original was 5 or something stupid).) thank to @lenny_kano
Please note that 1st boot will take a few minutes, please wait for the loading.
Some tips to improve the performance : (see attachment)
- Enable Swap : Setting/Additional
- Enable Multitaking in Memory Manage, Enable Performance in Power Manage
- Use No-frills CPU Control (this app is easy to use, simple and clean) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsIml0LnNpbmVvLmFuZHJvaWQubm9GcmlsbHNDUFUiXQ..) to set CPU overclock to 1.2ghz (use can set max to 1.8 Ghz, but 1.2Ghz is enough for the smooth and battery life.)
To use theme, you need to have Xiaomi account (see attachment).

P/S: Someone has told that this one is the same as Geno release and nothing else, No !, see the changes list above and test it by yourself, you will notice the difference J.

The best ver of miui v4 is 2.12.21, but doesnt have vietnamese, although i know english. (Bcz it makes my gf hard to use when she borrows my phone)

Based on Aurora v5.0 updated 09, so have the same issues at that moment.

the majority of MIUI V4's are based on Aurora including the Kernel is from DZO....
Some have geno's kernel but these are not good.
Best release so far is 2.12.21 so what does this one bring new?
What MIUI version is based on?

this is one of those threads that should either be moved or close as does not appear to be thrustworthy nor have any comprehensive information regarding the main issue.

Best release so far is 2.12.21 so what does this one bring new?

just flashed this rom and does not pass Huawei/ideos logo and reboot back to CWM?????
This is the first time it happens.
Something to do with the recomery? I'm using 6.0.2.8

Please use 5.0.2.7, i have updated the package and update some changes, you need resize partition to install this rom.

Sorry, i don't know. i have tried Miui Control panel but it doesn't take the change.

My disk is repartitioned already, actually I can't revert to stock partition therefore don't understand why your rom is doing that

m8, apart from the boot animation, where is this rom different from Geno's version? lolol
also making something new from an older version(3.1.11) is not quite doing something new.
By that line of thinking, try 2.12.21 from MIUI PT if you want a fast, stable, error free and great cam MIUI V4. For me the best so far and better than Aurora, which the only better thing that has is be a bit faster and smoother, nothing more

Humm, i don't understand, i think the camera app and camera lib of MIUI v4 are taken from aurora version 5, so the quality is exactly the same as the Aurora ROM. Tell me if i have wrong somethings.

I explain myself wrong, the cam app in MIUI V4 and Aurora is exactly the same.
I think the libs are also.
Actually Genos MIUI V4 is pretty much based on Aurora, including the kernel, excluding some releases that came out with genos own kernel.
But now I ask you, what the hell is the difference in the rom that you posted here and the original from geno???

When I open his thread for hd2 cm9.under what his work for hd2,it is writen,but use the green word.So I'd like to search this thread.but can't find in the forum.

Well, tytung has stopped publishing his work under xda-dev anyway, so even if it is made it won't be published here.
A Google searched returned nothing, meaning it isn't released (yet?). Just google tytung nexusHD2 and you will find where he publishes all his work. If it is ever to be released, it'll go there.

But sometimes rom is slow and some apps says force close ... such as browser .

I agree, it's wonderful; but sometimes it's quite slow, expecially when opening app-drawer in my HD2
