People probably paid $70 for them and for that price I imagine that they do suck.

From what I saw it was "Subreact 100 dollars from the purchase price for in on contract version." so, 8GB for $199 on contract.
Though, if you buy it outright, it pays for that hundred bucks in under 5 months.
