Hi , is there a way to update clockworkmod recovery to latest version , without loosing the installed rom?
if the kernal will support i believe you can flash the file through the terminal app in android. at least that USED to be the case.
i read here (its a sticky in the dev forum )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987531
you can update recovery from within recovery if the update is in zip format, just flash ans reboot.
Or in bootloader mode use
flashboot flash recovery recovery-raw.img
recovery-raw.img being the name of the new recovery img.
neither method interferes with your rom...
you can do it from the fastboot commands, boot your phone up into the fastboot mode
fastboot flash receovery nameofrecovery.img
you wont lose anything it will just update CWM
Tnx for the replies guys.
I went the noob easy way and did it with HD2 toolkit
Takes a while for the coffee to hit me in the morning!
Now running latest version

by "temporarily", do you mean you used the command "fastboot boot recovery.img" instead of "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"?
Can you tell what are the output after you input the command?
If you wish to boot/flash the recovery via fastboot, the extension of the recovery file should be in .img instead of .zip. If you downloaded a zip file, you need to extract the recovery.img from the zip file.

With 4.3 the command for booting into custom recovery has changed.
With the help of hwti and el_charlie from this post you are able to boot into recovery.
Basically:
Code:
fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot customrecovery.img
The command for flashing another recovery remained the same.
I just used the ncry tool kit in which when i clicked the recovery menu i could choose to temporarily boot into a custom recovery (wither TWRP OR CWM) But the thing is then it doesnt show up

you probably originally flashed your recovery in a root toolbox, no? if you did, you didn't flash it, you booted it. that's different. the android laying there, IS the stock recovery. all you need to do is flash your recovery via fastboot or by using the flashify app from your phone to flash it.
to flash a recovery via fastboot..
fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
to boot(not flash) a recovery..
fastboot boot recovery recoveryname.img
maybe you are right for the toolbox,i have no memories for that.which 1 is more safety?can you post some links or more info for to how...

safest is doing it the right way. and once its learned, its easier tgan a toolkit. but for booting or fladhing it doesnt mattter. if you flash it, it replaces the stock bootloader, so yoh can always go into a custom recovery at any time. booting it is only for a one time use. after you boot up, your stock recovery is back. and youd have to boot it evety time youd want to flash something, but you keep stock recovery.
So here's my story.
My device is :
S-ON, 4.4.4 Droid stock, 3.29.161.9.
Yesterday i tried to get root while keeping stock rom for no tampered msg at bootloader.
I was following guide from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51383278&highlight=ota#post51383278
so with unlocked bootloader i tried to fastboot boot CWM recovery image.
and it hanged my phone as everyone reported for > 4.4.3 ..... so i gave up for this time.
Today i was in mood for flashing some custom rom and then rooting, but with TWRP(newest 2.8.3.0).
just for gigles i tried to fastboot boot newest twrp. only thing i did was renaming .img file to recovery.img.
guess what? it worked! so i got root, reboot and started enjoying not tampered stock
So now im sharing this lil'christmas story with you.
Of course if it's irrevelant or already found please delete this topic.
happy christmas nevertheless.!
i'm on 4.1.1 and can't install room with 4.4.4 cus it's request 3.28.401.6 firmware or above and when i do it and trying
fastboot boot recovery.img

i can touch the recovery screen but cant see what i'm doing.
now using TWRP 2.8.3.0 the phone just doing reset and not going to recovery

Use older recovery. That one has new display drivers.
Merry Christmas to you too.

was using Stock Firmware + NoRedText Hboot from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/ota-3-28-401-6-t2899900
been trying the following recovery files:
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.1-m8 - not working, screen stuck in fastboot
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.0-m8 - going reset
* to be clear: this "no display" in the recovery thing happening only after i flash InsertCoin 5.0.6 http://insertcoin-roms.org/2014/12/...rol-market-ota-icon-packs-stable-performance/
(haven't flashed another room yet)
now i need do what i always do when this happen:
- fastboot oem rebootRUU
- fastboot flash zip 2.22.401.4-Firmware-noredtext
after that go back to recovery and restore the backup i made before.

not sure what your point is ? this thread is about booting the LATEST twrp on the LATEST firmware because older ones couldn't boot but could only be flashed.
Guys... when i tried to flash oos 3.0 on my op2 through twrp, i first wiped the data to install new rom, then install oos 3.0, it failed. I then flashed the recovery i downloaded from the thread, then restart the recovery
I cant boot into the recovery.
System can't boot
Is it called "brick"?
So i tried to flash stock recovery in pc by command, but it says "remote: device is locked. cannot flash images". any solution to this problem?
I can boot into fastboot mode
You need to run the phone in Qualcomm mode on a PC and run the recovery tool to fix you bootloader.
I did the same and it was a royal ball ache trying to find out how to fix it
Don't do what rosswaa said
Why not?
What you should do is boot your phone into fastboot mode, connect it to your pc. Flash this modified TWRP recovery img to your phone https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24459283995297945. After that you have to flash this modified SuperSU (through the new recovery) https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24459283995297946.
The normal recovery doesn't work in OOS 3.0 (just like in HOS) and it's the SuperSU that gives you the soft brick. A dirty flash of the modified SuperSU should fix it.
I also had your problem and I did what rosswaa said which shouldn't be necessary (I lost all my data and backups).
I didn't lose anything, but I tried doing what you said and my bootloader was screwed so wouldn't take a flashed recovery or anything (yes the modified one)
Wish I hadnt been so excited and just flashed but all sorted now
Hmm okay, if it doesn't work with flashing the new recovery img then do what rosswaa said and after that follow this post https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/installation-instructions-faqs-oxygenos-3-0-0.439108/
Obviously try what green says first, if it works then happy days
first i am really glad that someone give some advices on me. But since i am a noob, how can i flash twrp in fastboot mode? using command? "fastboot flash recovery xxx.img"? thx

Hi guys .... every time I try to flash twrp.img via fastboot it says successful but when I boot into recovery I find it the stock one ... does anyone know what's wrong ??
ps : when I enter "fastboot boot twrp.img" it boots very well into twrp...but when I enter "fastboot flash twrp.img" it doesn't flash the new recovery .
Download required files from downloads
Unlock your bootloader( u must be unrooted)
Reboot to bootloader
fastboot boot recovery.img
flash twp-installer.zip
reboot to recovery and check if twrp is there
, if not (100% chances)
Reboot to bootloader
fastboot set_active b (I am assuming you are on slot a, else use fastboot set_active a or you can change slot on twrp itself)
fastboot boot twp.img
flash twp-installer.zip
reboot to recovery
Success
Thanks to https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/development/recovery-twrp-3-1-1-0-touch-recovery-t3688472
I have try that but when I flash twrp it says FAILED PARTITION TABLE DOESNT EXSIST and I am getting bootloop. If I try to fastboot boot recovery.img (twrp 3.1.1.0) then the device boots up instead going to TWRP recovery. I can boot only in newest TWRP 3.2 but cant flash anything from it. Tryed to choose SLOT A and B on REBOOT menu but no success. Please help!

Same thing happened with me also and I BRICKED my phone
Try a clean flash of a stock rom, fastboot image of your choice, after that try the twrp boot and flash again. May there's something corrupt on your phones.

Download the files provided above and follow the same method as given by the OP.
By that recovery image , ur system internal memory will be accessable and u will be able to copy the twrp installer zip file in internal memory of phone .
Once done that , flash in both partitions and you are good to go.
THIS ONLY WORKS FOR OREO STABLE.
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY KINDA OF DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE , so be aware and know about what u r going to do.
just use these files , but follow the same steps as u did before
