Lb2 india, illogical - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

So last night I checked on kies for the rumored march 1 Ics update.. Instead It showed an update to lb 2. Either way I updated it.. N frankly I see no changes a such between la5 and lb 2.
Also what is the point in releasing two firmwares within 15 days when Ics is set to roll just around the corner! Samsung ahold rather relocate this workforce at ics visions and make it launch sooner. I've read around the forum and I read no complaints by anyone with la 5. Why release frequent minor updates when major is set to hit soon?

I think you are too optimistic about major ICS update soon.

Need not to have changes visual, if you want to say update means adding/removing application, then it is not true.
Have you marked what change in Modem?
How many application have change / modified for behaviour? there are lots of application have trigger with certain action, e.g. some application runs with connectivity change, power stat change and more. So that change log you can't see visually, but ultimately it improved android system performance, battery perfiormance, ROM management.
And yeah, all updates are voluntary.

Yeah also waiting for the official ics update.. But are a little pessimistic about the update happening soon.. I recall that samsungsaid that they first gona relesa the official for the sgs2 and after that to the note. And last info about the official update for sgs2 is set at Mars/may.. :/ i hope im wrong. .

While I empathize with your eagerness to get an ICS update (I myself am eager too) its too presuming to dismiss an update as pointless. I am sure there is more than what meets the eyes.
BTW I flashed the MIDNOTE ICS update. Its working fine for me so far and I am already loving the ICS

i see your point, however must add, it would be better if the updates were spaced evenly, in order to incorporate maximum changes in a single update. This would be better for both. the customer and samsung saving update related issues like say bricking... probably pointless is not the word..
and for ics, with la5 and lb2 rolling out at this time, i fear ics isnt gonna make it until next month.

"at this time" here this time is decided by us, not samsung, as samsung have never announce a date of release. You should not 'fear' but should 'strongly believe' that ICS for india is not on the way at least for couple of months.

Well Samsung is not updating all Notes, I am still on KKA/XEU - you guys should be happy to get official OTA update.

I agree. I dont think we will see a ICS upgrade in India before May-June 2012. If it happens by then, I will be happy.

Well you can't satisfy everyone. Too less updates ppl complain, too frequent updates ppl complain. I for one am happy there are more GB updates coming. Shows Samsung cares for their user base. Sure ics is coming but that doesn't mean they can't tweak GB more in the mean time. Btw Samsung never set a hard date for the arrival of isc, it's mostly fan speculation and I think your 1st of march was way too hopeful.
As the doc said, updating is optional and not forced upon at least

Dr ketan,
I and many others observed call drop (signal) after DDLA update. Has this been fixed with LB2 update?

battery life drastically improved.

Epic update tomorrow 9/30/2010

Engadget is reporting that the update will come starting tomorrow with a 4 day rollout and will fix the 3g upload issues.
Can someone with more seniority post a link?
I'm too new to post the source link. Here's the quote though:
"Good news - an update will be released tomorrow 9/30. It will be rolled out over a 4 day period so not everyone will get it on day 1. I will have the standard MR information (fixes included, rollout schedule, etc) available tomorrow morning and will post it in a new featured thread."
Here is the link: http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/29/sprint-epic-4g-update-coming-tomorrow-should-fix-3g-upload-iss/
I hope i dont have to add crap again to do this. If so i guess ill do it.
This is good and all...but is there any news of a 2.2 update? Coming from a nexus one, this phone seems severely crippled by it's software(or lack thereof).
I look forward to the update, but if it doesn't get better soon, I'm going to return it. I have 3 weeks left to return it...we'll see how the tmo g2 looks when it comes out...
No official word yet on Froyo, but the rumblings I've been hearing are either the end of September (so tomorrow or this update) according to support people in the UK, or the end of October according to support people in Spain. No support people in the US have said anything firm about Froyo.

I don't follow you. How is the Epic crippled just because it doesn't have Froyo? 2.2 is not going to change hardly anything... it's the exact same UI. Most apps dont allow for apps2SD yet, and Flash is underwhelming. The phone's already fast as ****. So, please tell us what you mean by your comment.

the phone lacks flash for one. to advertise the phone as a media powerhouse and i cant go to hulu, one of the largest free movie sites blows chunks. who wants to use the media hub and spend 12.95 per movie or even 3.99 to rent when i can order netflix and watch online. by the way you cant do that with the phone as well. i have 2 weeks left and as it stands i will be taking the phone back. i got the epic for personal use and i have an evo for work. the epic is faster and the screen is better but functionality wise the evo is better and i think it has to do with not being updated like the evo is.
so the evo is more functional just because it has flash? by the way, hulu blocks all mobile platforms, so even when 2.2 comes you won't be able to use it.

I agree, Froyo caused many more problems on my Evo than it fixed. Actually, other than flash (and even that is not all that) it didn't improve anything and it broke Pandora and others with LOUSY sound, it removed root and it removed RTSP. Since then, many of these things are possible to work around, but the bottom line is that in my opinion, Froyo is over hyped.

I really only want it b/c we "think" TW3.0 will be with it... I want the EQ.
Why wouldn't you want the choice to have the latest OS?
JIT compiler and flash is enough for me to want it. If you don't want it just don't upgrade?
Official announcement and release notes

If 'Install later' is selected, a reminder will be sent once or twice a day to install the update.
If 'Install now' is selected, the phone will power down and then reboot.
Important Notes:- This update will take approximately 7-8 minutes to download and 7-8 minutes to install.
- The new software version is: S700.0.5S.DI18
- This update is available OTA (over the air) and will be pushed to your device. It is being pushed in stages, beginning on 9/30 12:00AM EST, and will be rolled out to users over several days.
- Your device must be on software version DI07 to perform the update to DI18. If you are still on DG17 or DG27, a Sprint Service and Repair Center should be able to update your device to DI07. The update from DI07 to DI18 is not yet available to the Service and Repair Centers. As soon as it is, this post will be updated.

maybe this is why we still dont have froyo...

First of all, I was going to hang on to my nexus until a hi Res display came along but my wife got a vibrant and I got one free, the point is I've only had it a few weeks and I wasn't following it too closely so I don't even know the original due date for froyo. But this is my 4th android so delays certainly don't surprise me. Anywa, as i understand it the SGS has the same specs as the galaxy tab, and apparently adobe flash is a "disaster" on the tab. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artic...e-tab-is-an-embarrassing-disaster-2010-11.DTL
So maybe adobe flash on the vibrant has needed special attention. At this rate however I would expect all able galaxy s owners to just buy the nexus s and simply remove themselves from samsung's incapable firmware update team's psychological abuse
I haven't heard complaints about the unofficial versions but maybe they are having trouble stabilizing flash enough for a stable official version such that we have flash working but other bugs exist, maybe getting those bugs ironed negatively affects flash? Or maybe I'm just trying make myself feel better through poor rationalization...
To Be Honest I've Been Running Froyo For A Little While Now And Flash Works Great For Me...
Granted I'm Not on It 24/7 And I'd Rather Use Mobile Sites Most Of The Time.
But When I Do Use Flash It Works Fine

Same here only I prefer the full sites and flash works great I've been watching movies streamed from the web and after two hours of non stop use still no problem
Still flashing
I had no problems with flash but I did set it to On-Demand because it lags up the scrolling. xvideo flash videos played with no problem.
But other countries have froyo already, we don't have froyo mostly because we have a modified GalaxyS, think about it like this, Nexus One would always get updates first because they were plain vanilla not modified (touchwiz or SenseUI). I hope I make sense.

Yeah I'm definitely reaching, I just start getting antsy when these firmware updates get delayed and we don't hear much from the responsible party/s. I feel like almost every firmware update I've ever received has been delayed, but ive always had HTC phones until now, is Motorola always behind as well?
Also, is froyo actually that late (I mean, I know its devastatingly late seeing as gingerbread will be out before we get it but as far as what vibrant owners were promised....)? What was the original due date?
If flash is always turned it will really have issues, but if your turned it on when you need it, it will work fine like watching videos, you just have to wait for about 10 seconds of loading then it will work fine.
i feel the same as OP =[
Another theory to why Froyo isn't officially out...
... is that they responsible party(s) decided to leak a froyo version first. Than let the developers here at XDA hammer out details, then recover it and put the fixes into their own version to make it better. Maybe that is why leaks comes out to us. So the manufacturers can get free alpha testers and fixes.
I honestly just uninstalled flash. It bogged down my phone too much. As soon as I got rid of it, my browser was back to being speedy.

Why not just set flash to "on demand" in your browser? It won't load until you click on the flash content. Most browsers support that.
My phone's better with flash if I'm using the skyfire browser. It much faster than the stock.
You are aware that the Nexus S is also a Samsung phone right?
Yes Flash 10.1 does make the browser laggy and presumably consumes more battery due to being a system hog. I am using Obsidian V2 Froyo ROM. There could be work arounds, but it definitely needs optimization for mobile devices.
Now how does this only affect Galaxy S phones and not any other phone running froyo?
Honestly, I'm gonna be pissed if it turns out they held back 2.2 for ****ing *FLASH*.

Not in the slightest, at the most they watch over to listen for bugs. We got JI2 when they had already moved on to JI4/JI5 and then to JI6. Samsung doesn't work off of stuff here, the developers work off of what Samsung gives us.

Receiving Honeycomb 3.1 updates-explained

It looks like changing the dates/time on our clocks have no effect on whether or not you WILL receive the update, just how fast you get it if you were already part of the group scheduled to receive it. It looks like the Google servers picks a list of Xooms that are next for the updates, and pushes those updates to each Xoom on that "list" when your device communicates with the google servers. So, in short, you get the update when your number is called...so changing the dates will not guarantee you an update, you HAVE to be on the next phase list. So those who changed their dates on the Xoom were already on the phase list, they just got their updates faster because they forced their Xooms to communicate with google's servers quicker by forcing an update check. Hope that makes sense guys
Is this supposed to make me feel better?
no, but it just explains what your doing when your changing the time. If your not on the list you won't get it, but it does its check only so often so changing the date is a guarentee whether or not your on the list to get the update pushed. This way people can understand what theyre doing and not have to complain.

LOL..No, it doesn't make me feel better either, but at least you can get an idea of how it works. It would be nice to know how often and when does Google send out the updates from their servers, so we push our Xooms to check for updates during those times!
So ....
If we missed out on the update for whatever reason can we expect our number to be called again?

you cant miss the update, your "Xoom ID" is stored in each phase, so if your group was sent the update and your Xoom was powered off, etc.. once you turn your Xoom on, the Xoom will check in with the Google server, and the server will automatically send you the update.

Well in 3.1 they added a check now ability for the system update. So they should let us know a little more about how they implement Over The Air updates. I'd imagine if the majority of the users on the list that is available checked as soon as it came out there might be an issue with server power or whatever. But I dont understand what is taking so long, and if more people buy xooms how long will it take next time?

it wont cause any server issues whatsoever, if they wanted to push out the updates to everyone immediately, they can with a push of a button (literally) My guess is that they are just playing it safe in the event that something goes wrong with the updates, better to have a small group with problems instead of EVERY single Tablet owner. I was told that the the list of each group in every phase grows as long as there are no reported issues with the updates.
I don't know about you, but I haven't seen one thing about 3.1 screwing up anything, so push that button.

Like they're doing OTA updates to one up Apple pretty much, and it is just a fail unless your the one sitting there with 3.1... then again I did always have to wait a month or so with my iPhone for the jailbreak community to make the update... but like, this is for stock I'm waiting. HA! Exactly! We should start a petition: "PUSH THE BUTTON, GOOGLE!"
(in case it doesn't come across, I'm kidding about the petition.)
there should be an option to update manually from your computer like apple does, or just wait for ota...
I just got the OTA update last night...glad i didn't have to wait too long...
at 1st i was changing dates every hour or so...then just said hell with it when it comes it comes...lol
What I really really want to know is if having a rooted xoom and an overclock kernel excludes me from the update or makes me incompatible.
I have seen people say that as soon as they reverted to stock they received the update. I also know that rooted users cash manually install it through adb but I don't have experience with that and would rather do something easier.
In essence if I wait long enough, can I still get 3.1 OTA even though rooted, etc etc?

If you are rooted, the OTA update will fail on install when it comes. You can either 1) Go back to stock and wait or, 2) Do the install methods available for rooted users in the Development section.

Where's the Wi-Fi love!

This is mostly just me, after a whole 24 hours of being a Note 10.1 owner (woot, go me) being annoyed that its the 3G owners that have gotten all the update goodies!
Germany got theirs a month ago, UK got theirs today... but only the 8000 models.
In theory this would mean that the 8010/8013 models will get released in Germany first, and then in the UK a month after that...
I really really *really* hope that this is not the case though. For this would be... vexing.
Saying that, I'll probably end up rooting and putting the uk 8000 rom onto my tablet anyway, as I am an impatient soul. But it is the principle of the thing that counts!
I think the reason this whole thing bothered me is this poll I saw the other day - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871383
If the 3G model was the most popular, then prioritising that firmware would make sense. It seems as though the WiFi models are by far the most prolific though!
OR.... WiFi users are more likely to answer polls.
Keep wishing hard guys, maybe we will get an update soon. and then hopefully someone will finally do a non-8000 custom rom!!
I have just decided to enjoy what I have for now. 8010 update before Christmas at some time will be fine with me. I dumped an iPad and a transformer 101 for my note and one for my other half. We are pleased.

Yep the 8000 firmware, I don't notice any drawbacks. It's stable like ics, a lot smoother, battery life same as ics 3days 10.5hrs screen. The only thing is you gotta set govonor on-demand

Only real noticeable drawback is that if you use a USB toggle to connect a wireless keyboard or mouse it will drop signal on the German OTA. Other than that and the OnDemand thing as mentioned earlier it works fine on the 8013.

I'm using "Team Union Rom" 8000 on my 8010 wifi without any problems what's so ever. All you have to do is use SetCPU which comes with the Rom to scaling: on-demand and check set on boot. No os issues, no random reboot all fine.

I'm pretty peev'd about this too. Can't believe that a non-3G device is getting the updates last of all. Surely theres no modem nor carrier testing to worry about so it should have actually been the first to be released?
I REALLY want to use the features of 4.1.1 and am refusing to utilise my Note properly until I get the official update.
COMEONE SAMSUNG!! Pull yer finger out!

+1 on this. This rom runs perfectly on our wifi devices
I dont want to be forced to ROOT my device though unfortunately (I have a SGS3 for all my custom ROM business lol)
Got apps that won't work if ROOT is enabled on my device, and as I intend to use this note 10.1 for work related stuff its going to be essential having a stock ROM........
What apps won't work on your SGS3 since root? I have yet to find anything whether it be on my note or my SGS3 that don't work...

DME for Enterprise (Work exchange emails) - That's because the administrator has set it to not allow ROOTED or Jailbroken devices. (I know its because I set it up lol!)
There is a work around but I care not to implement it as it still means turning a security feature off which is not worth it just for my sake!!.
Anyway - Anyone wanting to 'voice their concern' regarding no JB for 8010 users - please post on samsung page here:
http://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobile
(Look for post Entitled: GALAXY Note 10.1 gets Premium Suite update. Packs enhanced multitasking, new S Pen-optimized features and Android Jelly Bean.)
Good for Enterprise won't work on rooted phones when the no root policy is in effect.

same here - runs perfect now, went through two or three complete shutdowns though, now only goes to sleep as it should do...using SetCPU with scaling on-demand and check set on boot - evrythinx fine now...
I'm also a new owner of this tablet(closing in on 3 weeks). I have a Galaxy Nexus, so I know what it feels like to get updates fast. It's a little troublesome waiting for Samsung to update this device. I told myself that I wouldn't complain since Google probably takes around the same amount of time putting together updates, but they have the luxury of seeming fast by putting them out first. What I don't understand is why Samsung is releasing the JB update for the the 3G version first. This may be due to my ignorance, if so please excuse it, but I thought it would be easier to update the WiFi version especially considering they're pretty much done the development of it.

[INFO]Official Samsung 4.2 Firmware

Hi,
I have been starting to look for information about a JellyBean 4.2.1 official firmware from Samsung and I tought it might be a good idea to share the information in one place.
So far i have found that Samsung said that they will release a 4.2 firmware for some devices including our S3 Mini but it will be the last update it will get.
The S3(I9000) will get this update as well but unlike the mini it will also get Key Lime Pie in the future.
S3(I9000) already got a leaked firmware!

Wish we had such a leak.
Expected New enhancements:
Improved Ripple effect on Lockscreen
New Android 4.2.1 Lockscreen with widgets
Daydream (Settings>Display)
New Additions in Notification Center
Notifications are more actionable
Voice Command (Let’s you control various parts of the phone using voice commands)
Quick Settings Tiles Layout
for me the biggest feature i'm looking for is the "Quick Settings" tiles layout feature(trigger by two finger swipe from the top)
but! if Samsung implemented this great feature why did they keep the regular quick settings in the notification window? it take space for no reason in my opinion but i'm sure we will be able to get rid of it...
Anyhow, hope to see a leak or official firmware soon, if you have any more information to add pleas do
Will it also contains some stuff (camera 360°, sound&shot, smart pause,...) from SGS4?

I think not... and google photo sphere is also not in the leak.
so let's wait for CM 10.1. I hate Samsung! It just a software feature. must be very easy to add features of they do it. What I like is the photo sphere camera
im also looking forward for the new 4.2 update, especially i want the ripple effect back since samsung for unknown reason removed it with the last 4.1.2 update....hopefully it will come soon enough

someone said after it disabled, battery draining is much slower. Maybe Samsung disable it because of battery life.

well,if it drains battery you could always disable it...why to remove it from the features in the first place when u can disable it? the ripple effect got me into buying this phone instead of a similar spec htc or sony(which both were less expensive)...
so they should get this feature back for non-heavy users like me..to be honest i didnt see any difference in battery drainage with this stupid locker thingy now...
and its not fair to remove a feature when it is there when you buy the phone...how about you buy the new S4 which has dual camera recording/shooting and after a month samsung updates it and removes that feature saying it drains battery, when u can simply not use that

Oh well I don't know if that can disabled... but yes, the system needs to ready the effect fastly. I think yes it drains battery.
But you are right too, if it can be disabled, why they remove it...
Will rooted minis have access to this update? Acording to the update system my phone was modified so I dont get access to this feature.

well, your device status is custom. use "Triangle Away" app from chainfire. Free in his thread on XDA. just search. Then perform a factory reset.
If you have rooted mini, just wait couple more days after release to custom roms.
Not sure why samsung removed the ripple effect. It is kinda cool stuff.
You can get ripple effect back with 4.1.2 update. Aslong as you are rooted and have cwm.

exactly.
someone on a video on youtube said "you can expect it to be released after the S4 will come out, don't expect it sooner"
which make sense since the S4 will be released with 4.2
well according to gsmarena: "Exp. release 2013, April 26th"
so i'm guessing we should see an update in a month or so...
Ya that's right I agree with you. When I used Wonder, the galaxy SIII was coming. a month after it, I got the latest 2.3.6 update from Samsung for Wonder which contains "face unlock". face unlock in gingerbread. That time, that feature only in ICS.
