Playing around with the Consumer Preview today, I wished there was a way to make desktop apps use Metro-style tiles. Is anyone working on a program to basically make a Metro app that just links to an EXE, so people can put in custom Metro tiles instead of using the stupid ugly icons?
The live tiles thing will be hard to do, that is going to pretty much rest in the hands of the application developers. But I think within a months time someone will have a program that allows you to customize the tiles to other colors or static images. The windows theme community is going to be all over this within the next few days.

Isn't there a way that we can get a thread going where people post their brns in a format that is easier to use.
For examlpe:
Here are all the icons that can be used on the 3 button side of the cube <insert slingbox, windows live, google maps icon ect...>
and here are the same icons that are formatted for the 6 button cube
<insert icons>
I don't have any of these icons, infact I have some crappy screwed up versions that suck. Because I'm too stupid to perfect them.
bump
I'm also too stupid. please post.
You guys might want to check here->http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12775
i know it's on another forum, but it's got a lot of people already posting icons.
Thing is, I can't find a theme that I REALLY like. Everything is either too flashy, busy or just plain hidous. I also realise this is subjective as well. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all the hard work everyone who has created a theme has put into it.
If I find the icon pack that I want, could someone create a FULL theme (portrait and landscape) and also install a couple .cab's as well?
Color themes:
-Different shades of grey for primary/blue highlights
-Earth tones (Buuf icon set)
List of cabs:
-same wallpaper on all tabs -or- nesse's cab where it maes the home tab different and all other tabs another wallpaper
-no curtains
-possibly crystal flip clock or transparent sprint clock
If I'm being too picky just let me know, but I'm sure I'm not the only one wanting a theme that is portrait and landscape that isn't covered with fire or other migrane inducing patterns.
WELL.........
you can always try to make one yourself
this way you get what you want
EGADS! You expect ME to do ALL the WORK.... MYSELF?! lol, yeah i guess you're right. Need to filter through the forums and find links on how to do it. Only a couple problems arise though. 1.) I'm at work a lot of the times and not allowed to DL anything to the computers 2.) Computer at the house is mind numbingly slow
Just wondering what people were wanting the developers to work on for the new metro interface. Personally I would love to be able to use custom photos for launcher tiles. I'm inspired by some of the great screen shots I've seen for Launcher7 for android devices. Something like this Browsing Customization on deviantART over the tiles?
I've been using the CP only for a few days but I already missed the fature to set the tile Images manually. Some non-Metro apps look terrible with their tiny Icons compared to the tiles. Another thing I don't like is that you can't drag the Metro screens. You either have to use the scrollbar or the mouseweel. Oh and I think the Color selection is too limited. It would be able to tie the Interface Color with the automatic aero color, so that the Background has the same Color as the highlights.
Is there an easy way to make tiles use a custom color, particularly on a Windows RT device? I'm getting a Surface in 5 days, and but I prefer the tile system on Windows Phone to Windows 8 (ex: I like all my tiles to be one color). I saw a program called "ObyTiles" but that only appears to work on x86 machines and only for Desktop applications.
Thanks!
UPDATE: I figured out that there is in fact an application that can automatically change my lockscreen to the Bing wallpaper, so don't worry about the second question in the title.
Hello,
I've been searching for a while but I couldn't find sufficient answers on how to do this.
Is there a tutorial to manually make and set tile icons for any program/app that fill up the tiles as a whole just like Store app icons, without using any editing software?
The reason I want to do this manually is because the apps in the Windows Store that can edit these icons have to pop up every time I start the program that I have edited its icon with the editing app. This seems to be something that can't be disabled in Windows 10
Oblytile seemed to be a good editing app that doesn't pop up every time you start up the program you've edited its icon of, but unfortunately it's not compatible with Windows 10 anymore.
Also, if there is an editing app that doesn't pop up, I'd really like it to be able to also make wide tiles (not just small or medium squared tiles) since some editing apps don't support that.
Looking forward to answers on this.

Yes, just look for "Customize Tiles on Windows 10 Start Menu" on youtube or something like that.
Something that bothers me is that icons also change on the taskbar, when the program is running, which is something I want to avoid, and I don't know how to keep the original icon on the taskbar.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is, I can't find any way to make wide tiles manually. I think this would need an app but the problem is that apps usually always pop up for a very brief moment when you open the concerning app for which you've made a customized wide tile.
