Anyone have an idea of it is possible to root an existing 1.4.1 install that is residing on the secondary partition? If so... got a link to show me how?

Hi guys,
I’m using VillianRom 12 with app2sd and just wondering how can I replace with new one along with all installed programs. Is it just copy function or I have to run recovery mode?
Thanks

I don't understand.
"how can I replace with new one along with all installed programs" - do you mean how can you put a new ROM on without losing the programs? Simple answer is that you can't. You have to wipe the sd card's ext partition for a new rom. Having said that you can backup all of your apps using titanium backup and restore them after the wipe.
See my sig for a guide on backing up between wipes.
If your question was about having a new SD you can do a nandroid backup + ext and install it after wiping everything and with your new SD in your phone...
hey guy im new here. and, i want to get my apps to be installed on my sdcard. im running cyanogenmod 5.0.8. it has the apps2sd option but its grey'd out. can you guys tell me the easiest way to get it working? please an easy way because im not that good with android
You'll have to repartition your SD card so that you can add an Ext3 or Ext4 partition for apps. OR you could upgrade to CM 6.1 which allows you to do it without the Ext partion.
You can do a Google search on partitioning for A2SD and find instructions on how to do it.

Hello,
As the title says, I'm a new CM7 user (running verygreen's SDcard installer, using the 1.3 generic image, with nightly 87, no OC). This is running beautifully, except for one thing... I didn't use a big enough SDcard to start with and now I'm faced with looking for the right way to migrate to a larger card (or alternatively to make use of the NC's built-in eMMC in some fashion to augment the current SDcard).
Can someone tell me if the following approach will work? And is it the right/best way?
1. Use Win32Imager to make a full disk image of the current card (4GB).
2. Write the image to a new 8GB or 16GB card. At this point I should have a perfect copy except that there'll be wasted space on the card past the final partition.
3. Boot into a Linux recovery type LiveCD and use gparted to expand the final partition to use up the rest of the space.
4. Am I done? (crosses fingers?)
The goal of this move is to give myself some room to drop movies, music, etc. onto the /mnt/sdcard partition (which I believe is called /media by NC Stock 1.2?) Will what I described work?
Thanks in advance,
fuul4nook
P.S. One extra question, will the fact that my NC is a blue dot cause any problems with the idea? And if not, is there any way I can use the eMMC partitions while running CM7 from SDcard?

You should be able to do what you want but use Easeus Partition Manager to extend the 4th partition on the SD to get full use of the card. I don't know what you mean by "blue dot", but you can access 5 gb on the emmc directly through apps if it's music or video. You can also use File Expert or Root Explorer to store what you want on the emmc partition, which will then also be available when you boot into the stock NC rom.
Hi everyone,
I have CM7.1 stable on SD-card (verygreen's method) but want to now convert fully to emmc. Is there any method for conversion wothout data/settings loss.
I'm unable to do a nandroidbackup of the SD. Please help.
Thanks
I think a Titanium back up whilst on SD followed by a restore when on emmc will give you most of what you want in this type of transfer.
Yeah, TB can be an option but would it copy the "extra" data directories of apps? I really don't wanna download that again.
When you are running on emmc then those apps that create their own app specific directories would normally put them on the SD.
So I think you want to copy those out first from your existing SD by using the USB mount for example and then restore them afterwards to the SD you want to use for user files when running emmc. The apps then shouldn't know the difference.
Hi guys,
a quick question. On a regular Xoom (out of the box, unrooted, unflashed etc), FileExpert is able to back up all the apps to an external SD Card. I then flashed my device and verified I could restore the apps from the backed up APKs. How can File Expert rip the APKs from /data? Isn't it supposed to be protected, and accessible only via root?
Thanks,
John
(If you see my other post, I backed up BEFORE rooting).
