Hi,
Anyone else having the following issues with ICS (stock, rooted):
Locked screen, using power button doesn't work
Reboot and stuck on Asus Logo?
both resulting in pressing on and power up to restart..
seems like this update isn't fully tested. I haven't done a full wipe, I simply updated through OTA... should I try this? If I do, can I do an ADB backup and restore?
Thanks folks

its most likely because you were rooted and did modifications that caused the OTA to fail and mess something up.
The OTA itself was tested by ASUS, its you who did mods to the tablet that made the OTA fail for you. You'll most likely have to wipe and start all over. Or just DL a custom ROM.

I wiped, totally cleaned the system, installed WW latest full blob then the update, and it occured. Just to note, my only mod was root, nothing else.

All I did was root... that shouldn't affect the OTA, especially as the OTA unrooted my device anyway!
I'll wipe now and let you know the outcomes.

Full wipe and then install the Full ICS WW. Thats all that should be needed.
so if I'm using stock rom and recovery... whats the best way to wipe.. through recovery or just through rom?

OPTION B:
FULL version
In recovery do a full system reset. Delete that mofo.
Then install the Full US ICS zip.
can I use adb backup to restore all my apps and settings if I go for option B?

I wouldn't. Atleast not right away. You have an issue. You don't no whats causing it. First Wipe and then reinstall. If after that you can't make the problem appear again, I would do a nandroid, and then attempt the restore of your apps. If no issues; Profit. But if you find issues after you can then restore to the nand and go through your apps one at a time to figure it out.
ok.
I still can't understand why this OTA on stock (rooted but unmodified) has problems.
I shouldn't have to wipe it.

I have no real answers for you.
But I would assume its cause ICS updates the framework and countless other stuff that can't just be "updated". You would have thought they would have made the OTA auto Wipe. I would have. I could be completely off tho. Maybe its just broke. Lol

- No ICS blob currently available
- This is the exact way everyone (I mean, every home user, without development background, etcetera, the "noobs") did it, who got the errors
So basically I did how officially it's done.

You're wrong. Asus made it in a way it shouldn't affect the system, yet, in some cases it does.

I swear Asus should fix these problems and they are more OTA updates issues and not the fact I didn't wipe.

I had no real issues with ICS when I was running it. I just preffered OC and UV.
Once a kustom kernel is available I'll switch for good.
That said, there are a few threads with issues. Give a look through the first 4 pages for so.....
just reading a few of the other forums threads and loads of people are having these issues...
confused why it's not been fully tested...

So, I'm new to the world of tablets - the only interaction with them being some light use on my mom's tablet (including rooting it via Iconia Root and installing Acer Recovery Installer v2.54) I was curious about updating via ARI (since she's rooted and being plagued by OTA popups). Back when she first got the tablet, she tried to update and it would stop mid-download, giving no error, and just sit there until she cancelled it (this was before the root). So, basically, my question is: Is it possible to run a stock update (Ie "Stock 3.1 4.010.42_EMEA_GEN3") without having to wipe during install? I have a backup via ARI and also Titanium backup installed but I'd really like to not have to re-install all the apps/set up the homescreen (she's on stock) and stuff. I know on my OG droid that when I installed CM7 I had to do a wipe for it to even get past the boot screen but I figure with this being a stock update maybe it's different...
If not is there some way that I can install an update while keeping the root/system data?

No. If you run the OTA, you WILL lose root. Not to mention I don't have a lot of faith in any device OTA updates. Prior experience, and hanging around various forums, well, you can read the horror stories.
I would advise, if you want to upgrade her OS and get rid of the "pesky" update notifications, is to flash one of the Stock rooted roms available. Or maybe a stripped down version of a Stock rom.
Search the developer section for a rooted version of the stock OTA, there are several in there. Install it via recovery, you only need to wipe dalvik and cache before the install. All of her data and programs will still be there. It will upgrade just fine. Remember wipe Dalvik and cache but do not wipe data and everything will be fine.
get and flash one of the honeylicious rom from the dev area .. good rom very basic apps.. but has a update to get the acer apps back.. and bunch of other cool mods.. the dev is also . kinda trustworthy..
Giggles.. ok he is kewl for a guy yukeeee guys smell..
good luck .. read read read read before you flash anything and of course back up and back up your backups .. then back them up again

Well... if the person was going to do an update to the exact same rom (different version) I would say ok.
But... if you are going to go to a totally different Rom, you NEED to wipe User Data.
Or, does anybody want to tell me you never have to?
3 Wipes. Mandatory when switching between roms, unless you are a dev and know exactly what you are doing.
Or.... you can forget about the safe side of things, and just flash away, and hope luck is with you.
The Market, SHOULD, allow you to re-download apps based on the market version you previously used. If not, it's a good time to clean house of the useless apps.

I wasn't talking about an OTA, I was talking about the stock 'rom' updates via recovery. I've had experiences with phones that have been rooted and accidentally updated via OTA, it's not fun. My phone was actually put into something I like to refer to as the Root limbo lol, bricked it for a small period of time - that was fun fixing it. I didn't have a nandroid at the time so I had to start from scratch...

If you stick with a stock pre-rooted ROM, you won't get stuck in a bootloop like you do some phones. You're just doing an upgrade.
But like doing an upgrade to any other OS without formatting first, you're writing good data over bad, so your mileage may vary.

I've never heard of the A500 going into a bootloop simply from flashing one rooted stock ROM to another, but then again most people do all the necessary wipes when they do. Did you wipe dalvik and battery stats? That's about as minimal as you're going to get. If that doesn't work, you'll just have to flash the proper way. Instructions here complete with a video tutorial on how to flash by yours truly:

Just wanted to get a few pointers on the update process once 4.2.2. factory images are released.
I'm currently running CM 10.1 latest nightly complete with Faux's custom kernel. When the factory images are released, i want to take advantage of the new radio and bootloader, that hopefully will be shipping, along with anything else without having to fully wipe and start from fresh.
Please correct me if i'm wrong on any of my thoughts about how to update below, or if i've missed anything
Bootloader - extract from factory image and flash in fastboot with
fastboot flash bootloader bootloaderxxxx.img
Radio - extract from factory image and flash in fastboot with
fastboot flash radio radioxxxx.img
Kernel - hopefully faux will update once source drops and can be flashed via recovery
ROM - hopefully CM will update with 4.2.2 is AOSP and can be flashed in recovery, along with updated GAAPS
Am i missing anything else??
Thanks
That will do it.
You just have to hope they work with CM10.1 though...

No the OTA will not erase anything. As for when you will get it? It should be soon. If you're impatient you can flash it manually buuuut i'd hold off on that becuase of all of the" help trouble after updating to 4.2.2" threads popping up recently.

Hi all... I have an at&t d800 that was running stock, rooted, and using Xposed. I was at work when I noticed that it was on the recovery TWRP screen. Weird I thought as I didn't restart it. I was having no issues with it prior. When I tried to reboot to system, it went right back to bootscreen. So I did a complete wipe and tried a system restore to a nandroid stock backup. reboot continues to go to the TWRP home screen... anyone have suggestions? I have a feeling its going to take a factory restore of some sort, but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions beforehand. I can turn it off and on, but cannot get past the recovery home screen.
Thanks...

That's exactly what it is for me. Only they did the download while I was working. Bastards. I'm currently downloading the zip file from that link where we do the firmware reload and uproot and go back to stock... the host site is brutal... downloading at 115 kb/sec... once this is down I'll just stay unroot and get the update and move on for a bit. Wait until the kitkat alphas are in release mode.
I'll post with results when it's complete.

Can not get into download mode either, I tried sideload adb and was able to flash stock rom and I tried CleanROM 2.0, recovery bootloop anyways, I have a copy of backup lg g2 recovery from flashify but I have no idea how to flash that.
Starting to understand the main disadvantage to this phone when compared to Samsung and Nexus. Nexus 5 looking real good right about now.
wow. if they bricked our phones this will be the last business I ever do with att or lg. This is inexcusable.

I can't get into download mode either.... This is surreal - Never had this issue before.. Am I without a phone right now? I can't do a damn thing here...
This seems malicious
I knew not to run the OTA - I chose to postpone or ignore the notice from AT&T -- it looks like they pushed it through without my OK and ended up bricking my phone.... can anyone verify a workaround to get into download mode??
I really hope there's a workaround here.... I can't belive that I would be the only one this happened to because I made no selection to run the OTA -- it pushed itself through without my authorization, so I gotta imagine it did the same to a lot of other people here.... Hoping for a response by morning.. Thanks!
Just to confirm some facts about this update....
Are you rooted?
Are you on a custom recovery. If so, twrp or cwm?

This has happened to me also. With my s4 .att pushed update in middle of night and it messed my phone up. Anyhow after two days or so of arguing with att they agreed on a eairly upgrade replacement and I got brand new lg g2 instead of a refurbished s4 .so now I am learning about this phone and I just took the new update. I rooted and was getting ready to flash twrp threw via flashify but I think now im gunna chill with just being rooted until I get a chance to do a lot of reading I guess before I go flashing anything..

EDIT: Also, what is the Software version for said update?
EDIT2: Nevermind, found that it's D80010o.. i'm still D80010d.
EDIT3: For those stuck in the bootloop, have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
Apparently the bastards will only allow you to decline downloading it up to 3 times at 4 hours per decline, then it 'automagically' downloads and installs itself.
I saw that info on the AT&T website for the LG G2 update, they are such asses.
I used Titanium Backup to search for 'update' and then froze that. That is the easiest way to fix it for now, but, will cost you some money to buy titanium backup. Other apps can probably freeze stuff too tho.
There are other apps/processes running in the background, but, the one I froze was the update after I d/l'd it to my phone, but, chose not to run it. Later on I will disable the rest of the BS on this phone so it won't be AT&T'ified.
There is a 'Cleantool' somebody here on XDA wrote that can run via ADB and remove all the AT&T crap, but, I wanted to make a nandroid backup of the configured initial setup before I start carving the turkey so to speak.

EDIT3: For those stuck in the bootloop, have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696

I'm not sure if that will work or not, my knowledge of Linux and the phones is too limited to say. It was however originally intended for Verizon phones as I'm sure you realize.
Just wanted to point that out so that nobody tries it and potentially messes up their D800 to a state that can't be fixed later on when hopefully some kind soul cleans up after AT&T flaming bag of dog poop they just left on our doorstep.
Hi guys,
I rooted my s3 successfully, but now cannot install the 19s update. I've tried undoing the root and updating afterwards unsuccessfully. Do you guys have any other things I can try? Do I need to re flash the stock ROM?
Thanks !
Rooting typically breaks OTA updates in my experience. You can try flashing stock + stock recovery and then take the OTA. I'm not 100% sure that'll work, but it should.
Come to think of it, I think it's more twrp that breaks OTAs and not root.

Darn, I was a moron and didn't back up the stock recovery, so I guess I'm stuck waiting for someone else with an S3 to upload theirs. Oh well, lesson learned!
Thanks!
try flashing the stock recovery from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/le-2/development/leeco-le-2-x526-stock-recovery-t3449208
it's from 16S, but it should work. after that you should be able to install the OTA. no gaurantees though

No prob, it happens. I keep seeing .20 builds on YouTube, that add theme store/more theme support and fingerprint sensor gestures. So I might want to do an OTA soon myself. Let us know if 99's solution works.

it wont. i fiddled with my S3 last night and accidently booted TWRP as "read/write", which the OTA can detect as it runs a checksum on the /system partition. if the system partition has EVER been mounted as read/write it changes, and therefore the OTA file will never flash/install. the only way around it is to have someone do a full system image backup from TWRP via a "fastboot boot twrp.img" then selecting to keep TWRP mounted as read only. this also affects all of us on the Pro3 (i have both). it would be wise if we could pull full system images for all US models as there are no full ROM's available
instructions on how to do that are here:

Hey man,
I followed your instructions in your post in that thread, but the modified ota update fails to flash as well, and upon reboot I'm back at my old home screen. Perhaps it was an error on my part throughout the bootloader unlock process; I'm also dumb and didn't know how to boot TWRP into read-only mode (what I did was check the "mount system as read-only" option in the "Mount" menu, don't know if that was right!).
Either way, congrats on getting your phone back to receiving OTAs!
Somebody still have a TWRP untouched system partition might try a dd backup. So we can compare where the different are

Opted in but I'm thinking like other developer previews, I probably should have not taken most current ota to may before. Oh well.. will wait until dp3 lol
...
My phone is rooted, I just received the update to install should I do it or do it manually?

Do the OTA because a manual install won't receive future OTA updates.

It should be fine since its the OTA update and not one you have to sideload

Does everyone get this error when trying to download?
"Anonymous caller does not have storage.objects.get access to (I'm not allowed to post links yet )"
I upgraded via OTA (completely stock phone, so beware), but my phone no longer boots (system UI keeps restarting until eventually the phone reboots saying that my data may be corrupt and advising a factory reset), so I want to try flashing the factory image without wiping data, see if it helps.

Yes, it seems everyone is getting this error. It should be fixed soon.
Stock Verizon Pixel 2 XL here, signed up for Beta and checked for update, got the OTA. Installed just like any other update, works great.

Wouldn't an OTA require the factory bootloader

I was talking about the error you get when you try to download the factory image.
Anyways, it looks like it's working now.

Yep, it does. Unfortunately for me, I managed to get myself into this mess with a locked bootloader and now only a full DP2 OTA .zip can maybe save me. Any chance anyone here has one?
Is Google Pay working on Android P DP2? This is what kept me from running DP1.

The App starts up just fine and I was able to set it up without issues but I haven't tried using it for a payment yet
There is a magnifier when moving the text cursor. Finally....
Build is completely smooth and have May security patch. (I was expecting to have an older security patch like in previous betas).
I think is much smoother than Oreo...but let's see in a few days. Animations are nice.
The speed to switch between the last 2 apps is incredibly decreased with the new Home button gesture. But at least is not slow.
