Dual Boot ICS - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I have been trying some ICS SD Roms.
I have a dual boot application which gives the option to go into Android or windows 6.5.
This doesn't work with ics as the ics rom files are placed in ics folder and i presume the dual boot application is looking for Android.
Is there a similar app so that you can dual boot from ics and windows 6.5.
Have looked but couldn't find
thanks

What program are you using?
Have you tried putting them ion a folder called android and changing "rel_path= ics" to "rel_path=android"?
Or you could always use MAGLDR.

Yep, do what the previous guy said. In startup.txt in the 'ICS' folder, there is a line saying rel_path= ics. Change this to rel_path= Android, then rename the folder with your build in it to 'Android' and it should run fine. The app should also have an option to change the boot location if I'm not mistaken (although it's been ages since I used WinMo/Android SD)

DUAL BOOT ROMs?

So, apparently owners of the HTC Rhodium (Touch Pro 2) can dual boot OSes now. Here is the quote "Reefermattness has created a package that quickly installs the updated Android package for the GSM and CDMA Rhodium, also known as the Touch Pro 2.The package also includes the famous Gen. Y Dualboot application by Yozgatg, which makes it possible to choose your OS at startup." found here http://www.xda-developers.com/android/new-dualboot-xdandroid-package-for-gsmcdma-rhodium/
Question is, CAN THIS HELP US? I know it would be awesome to dual boot ROMs. So, can a DEV take a look and see if this can be done with the Hero as well?
I think we'd be running short on ROM space if we tried that.
Yeah, the CDMA Hero system space isn't too big. Those Touch Pro2 guys have more space to work with, as in enough to dual boot. We barley even have enough to install roms.
The android files are stored on the SD card in a dual boot scenario also. I also don't believe it's true dual boot. You have to boot into WinMo first, then run an executable that loads the Android image. The Gen. Y Dual Boot application actually loads after WinMo loads as well I believe.

You're right. True dualboot is like Boot Camp on a Mac, it loads into a bootloader BEFORE any operating system and you choose which OS you want to boot into. Booting into WinMo and then into Android isn't true dual boot.
I dont really care about TRUE dual boot. As long as you can get 2 ROMs, that would be cool
wow I'm surprised its news, back in the TP1 days we could boot into a less than functional version of android from Winmo...

Can coexist two or more ROM in the same storage Card?

Currently I have the desire V5 in my Storage Card and at the moment, is the only ROM I have to run Android.
As long as I have used Android, and I have downloaded app from the Market it has started to create new folders in my Storage Card.
So, now I have a lot of folders, some appl creates its own, like .aptoide or .dataviz. Also I have other folders in the root such as shared_prefs or sqlite_smts_journals or sys.
When I have seen that some ROMS could be installed in an specif folder instead of the root - like the Desire V5- of my Storage Card, I wondered if is there any possibility of installing another ROM, and have the opportunity of launch one or the other depending of my preferences.
Have any of you tried to install two or more roms in the Storage Card? Can they live together w/o problems?
Ηi there friend, i have in my storage card 2 roms.. One is the froyo 2.2 from darkstone and the other is the desire v5..
I dont see any problems till now, but when i want to change from one built to another i always soft reset 2 times and then i do it ... Dont think it really matters though
The thing is if u have a froyo rom u just copy the whole folder thats called ;android; in the scard, so i have the froyo rom in the android folder and the desire rom just free in the card...
yes, you can
as malias said, you can have eclair and froyo together, this is because Froyo uses the dir Android.
Having this in mind, i renamed Android to Android1, and it seems to work.
so, in theory, you can make as many folders as you want, with different distros, and launch Haret inside these folders to have the distro downloaded there booted.
I am not sure if the different loadings leave settings "readed" by the others, we have to try ( i will do and let you know)
Thank you for your answers. WOW not only WM and Android 2.1 but WM, Android 2,1 and Android 2.2 all in the same phone... I will try and in case any problem I will go back to the forum to post the issues found...

[Q] Random questions about Android on HD2

Hi. i bought an htc hd2, but i did not like windows, so my brother installed android on it. i belive it is MDJ evo ROM, but i dont know what radio i am using.
-anyway, i noticed android is using about 70% of my battery, is this normal? (my older android phone used like 10%) does changing rom help?
1. If i want to change my rom, all i have to do is replace my old one on the SD card?
2. If i backup using titanium, how do i get the restore-file on my new rom?
3. a friend of mine is buying hd2. do he need to flash hes phone to be able to install android? ive read a "definitive guide to android" here on the forum, but from a "new user" standpoint its kinda hard to understand.
So it is:-flash phone, -install rado, -drag/drop android on sd card?

1: Yes, Android is contained in it's own folder on the SD Card, if there's nothing else you wish to carry over to the other build, format the card and put the new build on, then boot in the usual way.
2: titanium backup creates a folder called rather unsurprisingly "TitaniumBackup" on the root of the SD card, copy that over to the new build, install Titanium and select restore and it will give you a list of options to reinstall. Google for the wiki on the program and it goes into a lot more detail about how to do all the steps.
3: Yes, pretty much. Although some users will tell you that you'll need a newer SPL version, so long as you're using the latest stock winmo rom the spl is not needed and radio also get's updated along with it, then it's just a case of booting android.

Thanks for the great reply =)
what is HARET? i have a dual boot option on my hd2, is this buildt in the rom itself?

HaRet is the hardware emulation invoker for Android to boot. ClrCAD is the audio part of android as well, you need to boot clrcad, then haret on all builds else you'll get no audio.
Lots of roms now have dual boot options, they are just an automatic clrcard/haret loader and some come built into roms, yes. Else they are just a cab file you can install yourself.

[Q] Need help getting android

Ok im new and nobody has written me back about this so i have to ask this way but i flashed to the energy rom and i want android on it, i dont know how to go from where im at to that as all the threads ive seen has said download this and that but i really dont kno how to get energy off to do that but when i hit the launch android button it says "CLRCAD.exe was not found on your storage card...proceeding to launch Haret anyway" ok then "Haret.exe was not found on your storage card..." so can any body help me get android???
Hardware is:
RAM size 576MB
Flash memory size 1024MB
Data bus 32 bits
Software is:
OS version 5.2.21916
Manila version 2.5.20191914.0
ROM version 26 Jan.2011 WWE
Radio version 2.10.50.26
Firstly there are 2 ways of running Android, 1st via sd card and 2nd via NAND memory. The option you choose depends on whether or not you still want to use winmo. If so you need to use the sd card based Android builds. If you only want to use Android then you need to go the NAND based Android build approach.
As you mention running clrcad and haret I'm assuming you want to use the dual bot method, ie both winmo and Android. You will then need to device which Android build you want to try (from the Android SD dev forum) and carefully read the first few posts to see the dev's instructions, but in most cases you need to download and unzip the rom and copy the Android folder to the root of your sd card. In the NRG roms, clicking on the launch Android icon he includes in his build will run the clrcad and haret automatically and boot to Android.
thanx for your reply..thats the thing when i hit launch android it wont go...so when i copy the folder do i download everything even if it says its already on an if installed it might not work? thats where im lost
Try formatting the sd card completely so that there are no funnies on the card, copy the entire Android folder to the sd card root and you can ignore the warning about files that may not work etc.
ok ill give it a try
when you format your sd card will it erase the NRG rom and then you have to put it back on there?

ok just checkin..i want android on my sd card
ok i formatted my sd card then copied the android folder to it and it still did launch an when i clicked on the folder to run clrcad it didnt do anything an when i clicked the heret it just went to the htc screen and thats it...what did i do wrong??
Did you give it some time? I would ask the question in the thread for the actual rom you are using. Other users may have a solution for you.

Good, so you've formatted your sd card and copied the android build, clrcad and haret.exe files to the root....Tapping clrcad (to run) doesn't show any visible signs but its actually working in background, then tap haret...u should see haret loading up & a bunch of text briefly (depends d android build)...The htc screen u saw means d android build is working silently in d background so give it some time...check d android build's page for how long you should wait..(most tk abt 8-20mins, i use nand now so i'm not so sure).....if the above still doesn't work for you, then u should try using d various android/winmo dual-booting cab files out there...
P.S. Devs say its best u load up android within 3 secs of loading WinMo, so be as fast as u can...u could also try disabling htc sense to give a quicker loading time....If dat still doesn't work, then u might have to reflash an android-friendly WinMo ROM.
lol i dont think i gave it enough time..kinda impatient but i got it at the htc screen right now..im using the froyostone v4.0 build

Just go to sd development section, it should be on the 2nd page of that section. Try core evo v0.8 by sergio76 or evo carbon remix by motoman.
By the way, what sd card do you have? Model, make, size, class.

With SD Android, there is no way to boot straight into Android. For that you need NAND. You can, however get pretty close by using an automatic build loader (search in the forums for exceller bootloader/build loader or something like that) which will automate the process of running CLRCAD/HaReT and allow you to choose whether to boot Android or WinMo. You can set it to load Android after 3 seconds having booted into WinMo.
However, I would recommend using NAND Android if you are willing to do some research and have some free time.
thanks a lot and sorry for the late thanks
I am a newbie to HTC world but not to android as I have good experince in SGS I and II
I will install a nand version on the HD2 very soon and update you since we don't want to use windows anymore
ive got a android sd build on my phone and it boots straight into my android rom . i havent used winmo to boot into android for a long time now and i dont have nand,
when i turn my phone on it goes into mag and u get the go go go , and then boots into android , dont even see the winmo rom .
