Here you go - if you scroll down to the first video on the page you'll see how they scratch HD2's screen with keys, a knife and scissors - and none of these leave any traces on the screen.
Warning: This is not for the faint of heart. Unless you are used to eating babies for breakfast you may be better off not watching this brutal torture video. Here's a quick test to check if you're ready:
1. Do you plan to start using an electric vehicle to help stop global warming?
2. Do you consider your personal contribution to the cause of Free Tibet insufficient?
3. Did you ever believe a politician?
If you answer "yes" to any of the questions above, this thread might be better for you.
Wow, now that's hard glass...no screen saver needed for me.
I felt literally sick after watching that
Waouh ! no screen protector for me too !
Yikes, but boy are those camera pictures crap, why did they put that pile of ****e in it. What a let down.

Thanks so much

you can see the screen scratching with the scissors.
I guarantee you however hard it is, there will be marks on that screen, even if superficial.

No that's not scratches but a mark made by fat left by the fingers. He cleans the screen after and no more mark...

Personally i'm seeing a smudge over where he was scratching, without cleaning the screen no conclusive information can be taken from this.
Well, he says there are no scratches left, for what it's worth. I would trust his opinion in this case rather than impressions from the video.
well even if their was scratches on teh scree from SISSORS it is still impressive. i mena come on, the guy was trying to scratch the screen and it diddnt.
what it doesnt show on the video is the amount of pressure he applied though.
I'm sure you can scratch it, picking the right tools and the right pressure. But I think it's rather safe to assume that it's scratch resistant enough to keep the phone in your pocket without any shields.

agreed, i think the point behind the entire "scratch proof" is to prove that placing it in your pocket without a screen protector will not have it coming out looking like a touch HD 1 This is great news in my humble opinion!!
not sure what is so bad of putting a screen protector, really? I won't take a risk at all to have a permanent scratch on my device!
Well, because I hate doing things like applying those damned protectors; because those protectors get scratched fairly easily and your device starts looking like crap; because I can never apply them accurately enough so that they don't have bubbles underneath.
I hate them with a passion, really. I even wanted to by an iPhone because of this. When I first heard about capacitive screen on the Leo I didn't give a damn about multi-touch (and I still don't care much about it). My hope was that HTC would use a glass screen surface. Now I'm happy. The screen is scratch resistant; if I still manage to put a scratch on it, I'll have it replaced - it's not that expensive.
that was stressful watchin that The poor TD2

agree 100% with u, man i loved those iPhone screens, i could care less about the multi touch, i mean great, but if my HD 1 would have that screen, i'd be more than happy using it for a good more couple of months!
Really impressive, thanks for sharing
Ah c'mon! Some of you guys arguing about whether it scratched with scissors, ffs a car windscreen will scratch with scissors!! It very scratch resistant, i'm very impressed. Christ I wouldn't be surprised if some of you started complaining it's not dishwasher proof, jeez...

it seems like not a reliable test to me, the reviewers seems using light pressure doing the test. And I really don't believe that any phone in the market can be really scratch resistant. Why taking the risk. In real world usages, there are many things can scratch glass surface very easily, and why leave some permanent scratches to the expensive device? What is so wrong with a screen protector?
How can I remove the scratches or buy a new glass screen? I can't find any site that will sell me one only. Also are there any screen protectors that I can use that will not affect the screen quality. Also can I replace the chrome bezel as well? Sorry for asking so many questions. I just bought a used vibrant today.
someone actually posted a process to remove scratches but it was really tedious.
Ive seen that too and I wouldn't be able to bare sanding my glass as I will be more afraid I won't be able to undo it. Is the glass replaceable?

I read you can only get SAMOLED screens from Samsung directly, anywhere else, and you'd end up replacing it with a regular LCD which...yeah.

They have the bezel here. I'd also like to replace my bezel as well but have no idea. Plus the requirement is a min order of 2. -_-
I have used global direct they are legit, If you want to go that route, then look at my posting

This has a video and a suggested set of tools you can remove most scratches with Tripoli/ rouge or rotten stone (all polishing compounds) with amount of olive oil
it does take a while...........but it takes a while to disassemble a phone and put it back together, my guess it would be easier to polish rather than replace, unless the scratches are real bad.
You may want to try putting an invisible shield screen protector on it. It's the best brand I've used so far, and it should get rid of some of the scratches if they're not too deep. They sell for less than $20.
I'd be willing to buy two of these (because it's the minimum) and ship to another guy/gal's place. Anybody wanna split an order?

I knew it wasn't gorilla glass before i bought it, but i read the ifixit teardown and it seems people think its gorilla glass 1... its not.
Anyway, i broke my screen. very easily, i might add - set something on it, which i unfortunately do all the time with my transformer p, but anyway,
does anyone have replacement screens for sale yet? or anywhere can get it fixed? i love it, but at $200, not quite disposable priced yet.
Thanks everyone
.....and please don't say ebay.

After I shed a tear for you and your now broken toy I looked around online and didn't see anything yet either.
I'm sure there will eventually be some for purchase but as the other post said it's really early in the game.
Who sets things on top of their tablet anyways?
dumb arseholes like me who got spoiled by the indestructible transformer prime. I use it for work as a book and paper replacement, so I always put stacks of paper or books on it like its one of them. the nexus, I had the stylus on it, then put books on top of that, and it cracked it like a rock was thrown at it.
I feel nothing but shame and embarrassment

Ok ok, it makes a little more sense now, just books and paperwork... I was hoping you weren't using it to rest power tools or something on it. That stylus is what really got it I'm sure, bummer.
I'll keep an eye out (as I'm sure you will too) for replacement screens.
Is it even usable in the meantime?
its usable, except where the crack point is, there is no film or anything so that spot has like little shards of glass that get in your finger. but its still amazingly responsive and useable,I guess if I kept it flat and used capacitive gloves or put a film sheet protector over it.
and yes, the shatter point was the rear end of the stylus, the pocket-clip one. its a metal bamboo one, so oddly, the quality is what did it. I'm sure a cheap plastic one would have survived my screen!
May I ask the quantity of papers or books that was placed on top to cause the damage?

Just a warning. While Gorilla Glass is very scratch resistant, it's not indestructible or really any less prone to cracking than regular glass.

I do all the time on the iPad 2.. Pen/stylus with paper documents on top. Heck, my (merely) 20-pound dogs even walk and play on it (with a screen protector of course, and a film on the back). No problems at all. This is quite shocking. Thanks for the warning. I'll remember to keep it out of harm's way.
yes, with the transformer,I barely give it any thought, its just one of the books. iPads seem able to handle this just fine too, its what everyone else has around here. it was just second nature to handle the nexus the same, and, well, lesson learned.
it wasn't anything ridiculous, maybe about 3 inches, about 2 inches of folders and papers and one code book maybe an inch in height. nothing crazy! just the pen caused a stress point for the weight I suspect, and poor nexus couldn't handle it
I put it in my pocket for two seconds pulled it out and was greeted with this
http://i.imgur.com/8iQEi58.jpg
It's hard to see in the picture but it's a giant visible scratch along the bottom left of my screen.
Is there anything I can do about this?

I had one but the amount of bubbles drove me crazy.
It can be a pain but you should be able to get a screen protector on with no bubbles. Since screen protectors are not unique to the N7, a Google search on installing screen protectors without bubbles will turn up a zillion threads on the topic.
These are the ones I like http://www.spigen.com/tablets/google-nexus-7-remium-lcd-protection-film-steinheil-series.html
I like the Ultra Crystal
But I stopped using screen protectors since I found I don't need them to stay scratch free.

I always keep my N7 in my case and I put it in my pocket for *two* seconds, and my pocket is a smooth soft hight sweater pocket. I pull it out, bam-- giant scratch.
Now I think everyone should have screen protectors. I wish I did. I was going to sell this thing and get the new version in July but it looks like I'm stuck with a scratched and soon to be dated device now
Not true... Ur pocket did the scratch...
Com on, something did it....

Does anyone have any suggestions other than "put a screen protector on it" because I can't see how that would hide this scratch.
This incident was an unfortunate fluke although isn't there something I can do?

There's scratch removers that you can get. You wipe it on and wipe it off and the scratch should be gone, or at least less visible.

I've heard this too but I have only herd testimonials about gorilla glass and not whatever our screens use. You wouldn't happen to know of any success stories using a particular remover would you?

Nope, not of any specific brand, just that it could be a solution. Wouldn't hurt to look into it though
Be aware of scretch removers... they can easily remove glass coating because they are abrasive and make things worse...
You can see a scratch because a scratch has sharp edges. A screen protector puts the scratch under a smooth surface.
Polishing (on finishes in general) does the same thing by smoothing the edges, minimizing how noticeable the scratch is.
There is zero downside to a screen protector other than needing to install it.
I'm in agreement with others, don't polish. Too much chance of trading one visual flaw for another.

Hello, my original screen protector is coming off
What do you suggest should I do? Samsung does not change it, does it?
I read the glass screen protectors on the market are not so goods, too may problems with fingerprints and so on..
Well just buy a new one from amazon... I. Just order a 2 pack spigen pack 7.99 on amazon... This one has light scratches and the spigen on my note 9 is brilliant...
On the finger print side can't say as haven't put it but will tomorrow. People on the reviews say it works fine so...
Samsung does not replace it but they offer a similar version to the OEM that came on the phone. I remember seeing a lot of talk about them being $29.xx for a three pack. That seemed kind of high to me when for not much more you could do the Dome Glass. There have been mixed reviews of the Dome Glass. The most common complaint seems to be that it is difficult to install. It looks simple and straight forward, watching the videos on YouTube, but in the real world things are never perfect. There is one video on YouTube, 14 screen protectors for the S10+, or something like that and the vlogger puts on, tests and talks about all 14 different screen protectors. If you don't want to watch the whole video, it kind of long, he lists his recommendations in order from the best to the worst in the video notes. Over at Android Central I posted a question about this, https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...dome-glass-stock-something-else-new-post.html, and was surprised how many people are going without anything. I keep watching the front camera area for scratches and have just about convinced myself to go naked too. Mine isn't lifting up but it is pretty scratched up with a few deep enough to feel.
Just use it without the film. The sensivity in fingerprint sensor is amazing!
I am using this one from amazon and found it really good.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07RW748Q4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I saw that some protector are above the camera, others not. I read that it is not good for the lens to have a film over.. Am I right?
Screen protectors don't provide drop protection for phones with edge to edge displays and minimal bezels because the vast majority of the time a phone gets dropped on one of its sides rather than the area the screen protector is covering.
But people who walk around with their phone in their pocket or in a bag will scratch up their displays if they don't use a screen protector. The display doesn't ever have to come into contact with anything as obvious as coins or keys to get scratched--particles of sandlike grit that turn up inside a pocket will scratch a smartphone screen.
Whether or not you need a screen protector pretty much depends on how you carry your phone but people who think they are purchasing drop protection often end up disappointed.

Well I thought that was bad as soon I put it but after a few hrs the marks do go away and its nice... Well the protection vs the original is better to be fair
Also worth mentioning that the blue light filter is on the the pics and is almost all the way up... So maybe why looks orange.
