Porting Bravia Engine - the great hoax? - Wildfire General

Hey guys,
recently I see many Wildfire Roms presenting itself with the "new" bravia engine. I sounded great - and I went straight for some research here on XDA. There are several threads about porting it to any device u want...
So I took the 2 files and modified the build.prop and went for happy testing - sadly my screenshots form before after didn't show ANY difference...
So I searched on...
Checked out several screenshots in all those treads and notice that most screenshots also don't show any difference... reading on....
Many people notcied the same so most time a great discussion in each thread started.
Some peeople mentioned I can't be screenshotted casue its postprocessing,...
Others tell it only works with sony screens,.. and some complain it slightly doesn't work.
So what is the truth about that?
1. Cant' be screenshotted imho is bull**** since the flow should be: data -> processing -> buffer -> screen and a screenshot is taking data out of the buffer normaly (even there are different techiques - but root screenshot programs should do that as far as I know)
2. Only with sony screens? Nope don't think so as its JUST postprocessing - nothig else...
3. Doesn't work - a hoax? Maybe
So I asked myself how all this is working a great review i found was this
He is mentioning that there are several things needed for getting be engine to work.
1. be_* files
2. build.prop editing
3. the SWIQI service
4. an edited Galery app (since the one he found was complaining about the missing files if he deleted em)
Wich sounded quite propper to me. As postprocessing noramly is done by an app or has to be included into the rendering engine of android totaly... but his research showed it seems to be the galery app. Even he also has some wallpaper stuff meanwhile but to me this seems more like the galery app rerenderes the photo and then sets this rerendered photo as wallpaper. Sadly he doesnt describe it...
Sadly I can't find ANY thread here on XDA wich also ports the swiqi service propper (and doesn't just edit the build.prop + the be_* files). The only source I found wich also included some swiqi*.jar was owain94 (wich is credited in last rempuzzle btw) but he also closed his thread for hoax reasons... So even this doesn't wokr as it seems.
EDIT: the SGS version also seems to be here
No offense guys - I appreciate all the work u do for us - but since I couldn't figure out any wokring veriosn of BE Engine Ports and I see more and more Roms including it - I just asked myself if we got a popper port now - or still just those file copy actions?
Maby the SGS port is really working but I didn't have time to figure it out yet - it seems to be dependent on the galery app wich makes it quite useless if u dont use the android galery but quickpic,...
Anyway as the credits in Wildpuzzle (to owain94) and High-Voltage (didn't find any) don't go to the SGS guy i asked myself if those are even wokring?
And if u got those old (hoaxed) version (wich even jamal is presenting here in buzz forum) u should consider testing the above mentioned

thx, and welcome. u r the lastest one who realized the flooding of fake bravia engines in many roms and you have found the working one now on the sgs2, sgs, etc
yes, after i found it's was a placebo, i looked into it and came out with the solution to make it happen, as well as wallpaper rendering with the bravia engine. but initially my mod was treated as another placebo by others who believe "it wont work on non sony devices". and sadly, this was the reason why my threads were all deleted....
anyway, in these mths, i kept telling ppl in many threads under different models about the bravia engine works on non sony devices, and probably all devices, provided that it is correctly implemented. luckly, i can see some positive results and feedbacks. but still, many are still talking about the file permission thing
on the other hand, however, i'm quite worry about the trends in xda now. ppl are going crazy to produce different roms by putting hittest mods to attract ppl to download them and perhaps to make some money. and in fact they do earn money
rather, only limited ppls are willing to continue to create new things or mods and this makes me sad. i've asked ppl to come and join the bravia engine mod as to port it to other devices but no one is interested in it. ppls prefer instant solutions now, unlike the days before where there were lots of developers contributing their works. and i started to realized that being a developer or modders does not get anything. ppl wont remeber u but they will say it very proudly which rom they r using, and they even dont know who made the mods, which is not important at all.
i can tell u frankly, the balance of my paypal donation account is still zero after producing some good and useful mods for more than a year. that's why i said money wont goes to edison but phillips
lastly, thx for ur interests in my bravia mod. and u can find some screenshots below

Ok,maybe you are right.
But i m not a dev,and people says that it works on all phones.
There is no way to see if it is really working.
Anyway this should process all images in every app,so quick pic should work.
Anyway, sony phones don t have any option to activate this engine, like xloud

There is no way to see if it is really working. <-- u can compare the outputs by screen capture before and after installing the mod u mentioned
this should process all images in every app,so quick pic should work. <-- not really. it depends where the bravia engine resides. if it is embedded in the browser for instance, then other apps are supposed not affected unless they r modified to do so

can anyone help (dspmanager, call recording, geotagging & custom roms

Well I have had my sgs for a couple of weeks now on the whole very happy with android can't help thinking how great my last phone (i8910) would have been with froyo though, oh well. ,Anyway so I have managed to root and lag fix a stock 2.2.1 Rom and add the voodoo sound driver thing as well as the clockworkRom bootloader. So think I'm doing ok, albeit with a couple of big mistakes. Thank god for titanium backup pro and latterly CM.
Any way i have tried to install dsp manager a couple of times via different methods and each time suffered the hardest to recover from failures both times took several hours to find the
right recovery combinations. So does anyone know why this is?
My ultimate goal is to increase volume on music playback on my Bluetooth headset so if you have a better way this would also be welcome?
Secondly I can't find a single call recording app that will record both sides when using Bluetooth headsets anyone know of anything?
Thirdly i see geotagging remains an issue on the sgs I'd like to share increase that 5x zoom pro works okay a camera app that can disable geotagging but it misses some of the better features of the native app like anti shake and smile detect etc does anyone know of a better option?
Finally the custom Rom's thing is confusing me a great deal is there a decent beginners guide that has information regarding most of the main ones and their main benefits?

Damn there's even more than I thought and that list is missing a load I have seen as well.
Thanks for the list

[Suggestion] Rom testing protocol.

In short: The main purpose is to create a list of testing protocols to prevent time and brain lost, which could maximized the efficiency/chance of create a most stable rom and minimized the bugs and bragging sound from tester.
Today just check in the forum, got a fancy idea through my mind.
After seeing many tester having trouble with new rom and some apps can't open or FC or whatsoever, May be we need to build out a testing protocol such as like set a test range, from apps to game, from system to UI, from camera to video, to provide convenient list of test standard for developers. (I mean the testing plan/protocol)
I'm not bragging about our developers are careless or something like that, they are amazing but still human, and sometimes they need to rush out the rom for the other but accidently slip through their mind, therefore need to spend extra time to create hotfix or upload entire rom again to the cloud. Plus, we can gather many tester perspective to united in one plan, therefore we can eliminate the smallest bugs as possible.
My first roughly plan of testing standard, just a roughly examples of the list, not my real consideration. But If everyone is supporting this plan, everyone can contribute which apps should be test and which apps are always got problem and need to keep in check list.
Apps:
flash light
operamini
astro
barnacle wifi
Gapps:
market
Gmail
youtube
Gmaps
gallery
G+
Launcher:
launcher pro
launcher 7
ADW EX
hardware:
back key
volume key
power key
center key
camera key
system apps:
setting apk
timescape apk
alarm apk
So, any thought?

Gosh it just an example list alright? I need many people and dev to approve and helps so i/we can put the real effort on it.
Good idea!
I understand that chefs have a lot of things very complicated to test.
Here are some items that I always test when I try new roms:
- Web browser without flash player.
- Web browser with flash player.
- Sending SMS / MMS (very important for me).
- Pictures in all resolutions.
- Install apps from the Market (facebook is often a source of problems).
- Stability of the 3G / wifi.
- Responsiveness to enter menus and screens.
LOOK ,
This is approved
But your whole idea is that devs forget some useful things
Ure right devs do forget WiFi tether and astro ...
But including them increases the ROM size . Not a very big issue
I really don't get you buddy

Flash light? What do you mean? Using the phone as a flashlight or photography flash?
I had a Mitsubishi phone once, that had such a bright blue screen, you could use it for a flashlight, and the X10's screen is great in the dark as one, too.
MMS/SMS, 3G/H/E, phone calls, import of vcf files for contacts, restore of apps and data with either TI or MyBackup, Bluetooth stack. Camera, Gallery, Music. Some sort of standard email/some standard sync. Anything else is a problem with the app.

AOKP - Requests for development (Th3Bill's rom)

Well guys we have a pretty good chance to include everything (...what is possible) we ever wanted on our Atrix...
in an other thread th3bill (the dev. behind AOKP milestone 6 port) opened there were alot of request for features on the next builds, th3bill offered to open a discusion which include all requests in one place.
** Th3bill, we love your work and your willing to do for others. your private time "wasted" on porting and developing is not ovious and we do appriciate it. keep on the excellent work and again a major thank, us - the users.
since nobody did it so far i'll start:
i whould like the next build to include:
1. call recording option.
2. video call option.
3. webtop interface?
4. google music.
5. led color control in order to customize notifications.
6. o.c kernel.
7. some other cpu governors.
8. google's android jellybean featuers? espacially build-in voice recognition.
things to fix (what i've noticed):
1. video cam - known problem.
2. browser issus (fc when changing ls and portrait).
3. edit custom brightness levels (fc).
4. can't change signal and wifi colors.
5. also battery bar won't show up.
6. wifi direct won't work.
7. wifi hot spot works and immidiatly stops(maybe it's just my device).
-By now your port is the best rom my atrix had so...big thanks !!!
-I know you working too hard already (DON'T FORGET TO HAVE FUN !!, i wrote all of the things i think can be added. with or without them it is still almost perfect.
guys it is your turn now...make some suggestions for improvement:
Hey Everyone!
I'm sure most of you know me by now. Those of you who do not, I am NOT the type of rom porter who gets upset by questions/requests/PMs. Just understand that I build 3 builds of MIUI (Photon, Atrix, Infuse), 2 builds of AOKP (Photon, Atrix), 2 builds of Paranoid Android (Photon, Atrix), as well as help Jokersax11 with various projects, including our Kitchen Sink. That being said, it might take me a little bit to respond...but I will.

Enhancements:
1) Call recording, I need to play around with this rom some more...see if it has the capability...maybe I can pull from MIUI...can't guarantee, though
2) That will be tough until Moto gives libs
3) Loki and I have talked at length about this...we're trying to figure out a way to do it, but it will take a hybrid kernel and a lot of work. Not that we won't TRY...
4) This will be in the next release
5) Have an app in mind that I can include? Beauty Aroma is that I can include almost anything
6) I am working with Jokersax11 on making some that are compatible with our base. I know that some are kinda compatible, but not all....
7) By governors, I am assuming you're talking about some form of setcpu?
8) I have the apps on my PC...well some of them.
With respect to fixes, 1 and 2...those won't be till Moto plays nice with me and gives me drivers for ICS.
3) I need a logcat on this one please
4 and 5) Not too sure about these ones. I'll try them with my phone if I get a chance. If you can logcat, that'd be great
6) I think this is an ICS thing. Don't know that any of them do Ad-hoc at the moment
7) You need to forget whatever network you are near if you're connected...and make sure that wifi is ON before beginning tether
Sorry if I am a downer on some of it, but I would rather be honest with everything I tell you all. I have much love for the Android Community
I know of you and your builds well Th3Bill, unfortunately I'm just now working on my 10 posts, I have flashed everything for Atrix and Photon.

Just installed latest build an wanted to say thanks for bill's an jokers hard work..
I personally use the car dock alot an the transitions between audio playing and incoming call tends to be troublesome. When calls answered the phone doesn't port it over the USB. Usually speaker/headset and have to redock in call for it to work... also DSP manager doesn't have effect over the USB audio out. Only reason I revert to original moto rom.
That aside best cm9 based rom yet.

On paranoid android for the atrix when in tablet mode it won't allow me to make the recent apps the Sense htc style one, is there a fix for this?
Question/Report
Not sure if this is the right place to report issues. My luck, probably not. Here it goes..
I had your build 40. worked great!
updated to milestone 6 7b. worked better (yaay)
tried to update to milestone 6 revision. No wipe, same as previous, sent atrix into bootloop. tried few more times, same thing.
tried again with full wipe. Bootloop. tried again. bootloop. flashed 7b full wipe, works great again (yaay).
Just curious if you have any idea why my phone doesn't like the new one. saw in the rom thread a few others had same issue or similar, no answers there as of yet. i'm hesitant it try again unless you can think of something i could possibly be doing wrong somehow. Anything i can send or tell you that could help, let me know. Thanks
As for requests, i prefer Apex launcher over Nova. Maybe include it? it would be nice if i could uninstall Nova also
You Rock!
*So i tried installing again and it works now. not sure what the problem was*

not really worked...users didn't cooporate and besides cm 10 (JB) is already here and not bad, so this is closed!!

Problems
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this. If not, i apologize.
I flashed your AOKP build 3 on my international atrix. The ROM doesn't recognize internal and external storage for me. When my phone boots it says that is safe to remove sd card. I used the two options EMMC and SD with or without build.prop tweaks. Also i flash this with FULL wipe (system, etc) The other thing that i cannot find are GApps. Can I use CM10 GApps for this rom ?
Thanks in advance.
So, are there options for an OCed kernel yet?
* Moved to development thread. *
I would really love to see an option to "Show only contacts with phone numbers" on Contact list settings...MIUI has this option and this is super usefull for me
MIUI SMS app is great too, but it doesn´t show smileys
Thanks

Sm-p605 now working as expected

Hi Folks,
This is just an overview about the above mentioned tablet including the probs I had and how I got them solved.
At first startup I was wondering about the sticky rolling through the screens. The typical adjustment inside the developers settings hasn't solved it.
Sometimes it Stücks completely and booted Fa do my by itself and it got worst after installing all the Samsung "Goodies". Sometimes some kind of Bootloop. A recovery reboot was necessary in including wiping of the phone.
What really sets me up was the really annoying WLAN disconnects - switching of the Cell Data doesn't really solved the prob.
Bluetooth seems to work fine just BT Keyboards randomly disconnects.
I tried a lot of Apps and configuration changes with no real help.
Finally I decided to root the Tab and put HAL 9000 on it.
The only recovery which I was able to install was TWRP - Philz I couldn't got installed.
After that the HALL 9000 worked as described in the installation guide.
The first reboot after installation a big wow now the Tab was fast no sticky scrolling apps opens fast and so on - working as expected when buying.
Some useful software we included in the Rom especially X Posed helps fine tuning the tab. Then I changed the launcher to Apex and installed a HD 3 D Theme.
This really personalises the look as you want.
Now on my tab are about 300 hundred Apps the only thing which you need to tune is in Settings for developers ( 7 times build Nr hitting )
The animation settings to 0.5.
It runs smooth all above mentioned problems are solved lucky wise you have to root it to get it perfectly working lol to sammy.
Now it is possible to connect the Apple BT Keyboard and type perfectly with no disconnects.
With this changes you don't loose SPEN or its Apps. The Knox counter will be set to 01 - but it doesn't matter to me.
So far I understand Knox it's just a safe enviroment when taking using the device as a BILD device inside a company. When rooted it MUST change the value, if not you can bring a potentially dangerous device in a security enviroment.
Sofar it should not have any impacts to the hardware warranty.
That's all sofar if any questions feel free to ask if helpful give me a thanks

Thanks for information, downloaded it about a week ago. What's the warez inside ? I thought all was OK with it.
Hopefully there will be other devs providing a rom or a kernel for the 605.
Not really sure what the issue is. And yes, there seems to be so few ROMs out there for P605
warez in HAL 9000
I checked my HAL Rom and i think I found the warez, there 3 extra Apps which are great. I think everybody who has installed it should purchase them. May be that's fair for the developers or uninstall them.
The Apps I found are :
1. Ultimate Dynamic Nav Bar pro. ( really worth the money )
2.LMT Launcher great gesture settings ( i am not using it because got another solution, but would if I had found this App first )
3. Greenify ( a battery saving solution which WORKS ).
4. Screen Recorder Pro. ( deinstalled because I don't need it )
I think buying those apps is fair and the Rom is worth it.
I really want to try this ROM but the links are gone. I wonder if the thread is going to be opened again.
I also dont mind buying the apps if I'm really going to use it.
I hope they resolve the problem soon as we only have few ROMs for P605.
Yeah why is it disabled ? There is not so much rom for 605 and one of them is banned even it is liked ... Interesting

rom news
Hi again
Beside the HAL ROM is now another rom ready for our Tab.
It's called stocky rom (stockyrom.de) it hasn't that much changes in it but I think worth trying and may be when some people giving feedback to the developer it's getting mor sophisticated.
If you guys still interested in Hal rom and going to delete/buy the warez items I got it on dropbox.
I am personally contact the stocky guys and get this rom working as wanted.

Samsung, if you read this ...

I am a very happy user of this model, still, here are a few little things I would like to see addressed in an update:
- Please add a fifth option (user) to the screen modes which will have colour sliders / white balance adjustment.
- Please add manual modes to audio ie. upsampling, bit rate.
- Please add an option to choose which programmes can start automatically from boot-up with option to disable those not wanted.
- Please add selective colour filter to Camera Editor.
- Please add the option of a dark theme
Many thanks
lol Samsung drift into XDA
Now there is something i would like to see.
Good Luck........... )
Well, you never know ...
PS. I've sent a smoke signal to Samsung about this too.
Hell, if you don't ask you don't get ...
For the mass market, not many people MAY not want / would be interested.
but most of what you want, can be done via root an xposed.
Audio Stream: Viper
Start on Boot: Xposed Mod - Control what starts up and not
Dark theme possible (Check the Apps and Themes section, am sure i have seen some)
Camera and Shutter speed, Not sure..... I though pro had a option to change shutter speed already??

Yes, shutter speed is adjustable, my bad.
Rooting is not an option at present as NFC is a feature I want to use. Then there's the warranty issue.
I am fairly happy with TW short of a few items missing (as per my previous post).
You are right, there are plenty of Dark Themes available, just thought it be a nice touch to include one..
I got an Opo3 coming to potentially replace an Elephone P9000, my second phone (and which I like too, the screen quality has to be seen to be believed). I was kind of expecting it today. This is not to replace the Edge. - I really like this phone, the weatherproofing (I cycle a lot) and form factor which seems to attract some compliments. It will stay.
Just a few more features for the S7E and it would be almost be 'perfect' for me.
Samsung please read the request in the OP.
Well, having mailed the relevant folks at Samsung directly rather than just whinging about it here is their response. Of course they won't listen to me but if a few hundred or thousand users would do likewise ... they may just.

Not really a problem for me as long as I have a well functioning UI/device.
Touch whizz has been improved and a new Samsung UI is apparently on the way.
Good Lock goes some way towards customization.
I generally don't feel the need to continually change Rom's. For me a phone is device necessary for work and my hobbies rather than a programming test bench. Neither do I generally fancy doing field testing for individual 'developers'. Some clearly more capable than others.
That doesn't mean there is no need for improvement on Samsungs behalf and more frequent updates would clearly be nice.
