[i9000]&[Android] the Great Video Poll! - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello peeps!
The idea is simple. Just tell what kind of videos you would like to watch about the Galaxy S or about Android itself. Any requests are noticed!
Current ideas found in the poll. Obviously.
Youtube channel can be found HERE
Please tell if you wish talking instead of
music/annotations in the videos.
I don't want to see answers like:
"I don't watch videos"
"What is YouTube?"
and so on.

What is Android?
You could make a video about some hidden features (if you find some).

Thx, haven't known that with the Open Handset Alliance before .

It'd be great if you could review the different ICS roms available. It used to be easy to try them all out when there was only onecosmic and teamhacksung, but now there are far too many for my busy schedule.

Best site for nexus one / android news?

Hey guys I usually have a list of bookmarked sites I go to to see if there is anything new I don't know about. Since I am still pretty new to the android community I was wondering if anyone knows of news sites / blogs about the nexus one that gives DAILY news. Daily being the key... otherwise I could just do google searches myself but I would rather have a site that gets all the daily news for me.
Currently I use:
- Android central news section
- Phandroid news section
- Android community news section
- Android Guys
- Android and Me
- Download squad
- Android tapp
Probably my favorite so far is Android guys and Android tapp. The other ones are ok but sometimes have periods of 3-4 days without an update.
Does anyone know of any other good nexus one / android websites that give daily news updates?

Lol, Daily I get it...
Open up the News widget, create a custom new source, type in "Android". BOOM all daily news about Android from dozens of different sites every day.
Just watch out because there are often Apple-fanboyish sites like PC World that spin every single piece of Android news into something negative and end with some rubbish about Apple being better.
But at least it's daily
www.engadgetmobile.com is also the best site hands down for all mobile news. I love Android, but I like to keep up on ALL gadget news, not just tunnel vision Android

I like phandroid and androidspin
You're an Android user right? On the news widget, I added the custom news topics named "Nexus One" and "Android". You'll get updates daily (it can even post more than one update in a day). Feel free to add more topics that you want to follow.
You can also use news.google.com like this http://news.google.com/news/search?aq=0&pz=1&cf=all&ned=en_ph&hl=en&q=nexus+one&oq=nexus

Like Androidspin & Androidguys!
I was about to bookmark androidguys but the page doesn't display properly and icons overlap text in every headline and topic description. I cant imagine anything more ironic than an android site not displaying properly on an android phone. However my stock browser has given me hell since the beginning so it might just b my phone. Also I don't really know how to use the word "ironic"

The Top Free Android Apps

Hi folks,
I've posted about this in the Hero forum some time back, but I'm rocking the Desire now and I hope that you might have use for it as well. I've tried to gather the top free apps Android has to offer, with descriptions, links back to the developers' websites, QR codes and hands-on videos. It's currently more than a 100 apps divided in 11 categories, and I always try to keep the list up-to-date.
What do you guys think of it? Any ideas on how I can improve the guide? Did I miss to include any great apps?
Here's the URL if you want to check it out:

nice
Nice list, i really liked Buzz Deck and issuu
Have made some major updates to the top free Android apps guide, and it now includes the best widgets and live wallpapers as well. There are of course some good apps missing, but it should be pretty complete and up-to-date.
Running isn't the only form of working out.
JEFit is a fantastic weight lifting application.
VPlayer is a great video player for playing non-native video formats and is vastly superior to rockplayer.
Colornote is a good notes application.
Movies is fantastic if you're into cinema.
thnx 4 ur effort=)
found a few nice apps, also saw some I already had.
thanks
Great idea, thanks. I honestly read these and find them helpful from time to time, which says a lot since I ignore the vast majority of typical low quality internet publications in general.
Nru is another AR app similar to Layar.

[MOD] [THINKTANK] Building TaintDroid in a ZTE Blade Kernel

It would be great if TaintDroid could also be integrated in a Blade ROM.
ZTE Blade users, please show you're support if you also wish to see TaintDroid implemented in Custom ROM for your device.

Most people don't yet know that many Android software leak all sorts of information to the internet with only scant user acknowledgement (basically what you accept when you install the app).
Due to this and the fact that there are already privacy information harvesting apps for Android on the marketplace - a team of security experts have created TaintDroid:
What is TaintDroid?
From the project's web page: "A realtime monitoring service called TaintDroid that precisely analyses how private information is obtained and released by applications "downloaded" to consumer phones."
From: http://appanalysis.org/index.html
How can I install TaintDroid?
As TaintDroid is currently compiled into the kernel, you cannot easily install it, but you have to cook your own kernel. Instructions (for Nexus 1) are available at the project web site: http://appanalysis.org/download.html
How does TaintDroid work?
Here's a video demonstrating how TaintDroid works once it is installed and configured:
http://appanalysis.org/demo/index.html
Why would you want to install this?
There can be many reasons for installint TaintDroid:
- You want to learn about privacy features and play with Android kernel
- As it is currently impossible to differentiate between innocent and sneaky Android apps based only on what access rights they request, you may want to dig in deeper
- You are worried about what apps are doing behind your back and you want to know which apps to uninstall
- You want to help create Android a more secure and privacy-protected platform, instead of the swiss cheese it currently is
What can you do?
As compiling kernels is mostly beyond the reach of mere mortals currently, consider cooking TaintDroid into your kernel, if you are cooking one yourself and offering it available for others to try and use.
Hopefully increased awareness and usage will bring this program eventually into other modders and perhaps even Google's attention and something more easily accessible is offered for the public at large.
BTW, I'm just a user, interested in getting TaintDroid on my own Galaxy S. I'm not affiliated with the research program, but I like what they are doing. This information is purely FYI.

ps: Sorry for replication but as this suggestion/request is taken up specifically for the ZTE Blade device, I thought it would be appropriate to duplicate the previous posts.

[VIDEO] Motorola ATRIX Video How-To Thread

All links pulled due to XDA Request after an XDA member complained I was only out for profits to a moderator on a few products I have. Due to the fact I link to a product or two and a few other things in many videos, I was asked to pull any content relating to this.
I will still be offering all this great material at my website. Just go to google and search for MobileTechVideos.
Is there currently any simplier way of side loading apps without rooting for the Atrix?
Look up AC_SWM. It worked for me before there was root.

You can try the other solution mentioned, but I prefer Droid Explorer. It has a ton of awesome tools with it as well.
ATRIX Root video added. Check it out in the OP. Or here... http://youtu.be/A_JINF__UKg
I know there is another one and it's great. This is just our version...Enjoy either!
Video added for ATRIX Free Tethering. Check it out in the OP...or here... http://youtu.be/JZi-5MOs7pc
Thanks to Fixter for that fix!
this is so awesome
Great idea for a thread...
Something good to add would be a guide for video conversion...Maybe include free software, best settings, and supported formats...because there seemed to be some confusion going around about that.
It is nice to add all of these videos on how to to things with the Atrix. But the videos that were not perform on the Atrix, have anyone confirm the procedure works for the Atrix. For example the density change is for the captivate, did anyone try this on the Atrix. OP, please cofirm these things before adding to your list.
Thanks,
ADEO rom review added...

Added gingerbread theming video under applications category...

Why isn't this stickied??
tethering
i did everything in the video and my atrix still wont tether!

So... what is it?? Can you give at least a clue as to wth it is? I know I can go to that URL for "more details" but you didn't even make the link click able. Seems a lot of work for something that smells like an advertisement or scam..
EDIT: Alright, I was curious. I googled it. Probably not a scam but you really could try marketing your thread a little better

It looks like some data monitoring thing, so you don't go over your bandwidth limits. I guess it's like 3G watchdog and the ICS data usage options...? I never used that stuff, but from what I can tell from their website, it looks to be similar to those.
sounds really sketch...
its not sketchy at all. It is a very popular data monitoring app on iOS and has been ported to android for a while. I used the gingerbread version for a while and found it very good.

Oh, ok. I guess the OP sounded really sketch since there was no context and only a shortened link =s
To be fair the OP could deffinitley do a better job of making it look more official.
Just search for onavo in the market and you'll see it is a respected app.
What is Onavo?
Hi guys,
Thanks for commenting here.
Being a new member I can't link (using http), so I didn't.
I can assure you it's not a scam or a hoax but a real beta program that will benefit you in the long run. As Jamalsid said, Onavo isn't a new thing, we're quite popular (read our media coverage here: onavo.com/news). AndroidPIT.com called us 'The Best Damn Data Monitoring App for Android. Period.' Could have linked if I could. We have a 4.5 star rating on the Android Market, with over 3,000 positive reviews from users - search the market and you'll see what I'm talking about. You can also read what our first year was like: blog.onavo.com/2012/01/year-one-onavo-recap/
We are testing a few new features that will be released on Android 4.0 for the first time, and can use your help.
If you have any questions, reply away.
Thanks!
