Sad about my super amoled :( - Nexus S General

My friend has a epic 4g and his colors are super deep. Mine look more washed

Maybe its based on the settings. Don't despair!

Are you using custom kernel? If you do use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401759 setting with voodoo color.
It will make your phone's color darker, deeper and so much better.
Sent from my Nexus S from Tapatalk

If you have a custom kernel with voodoo and the voodoo app installed
Create a script with this text:
#!/sys/bin/sh
echo 2309122400 >/sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/red_multiplier
echo 2309122400 >/sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/green_multiplier
echo 2701672960 >/sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/blue_multiplier
echo -44 >/sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/blue_v1_offset
echo -50 >/sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/red_v1_offset
echo -53
That will run those settings at boot (takes a bit after booting for them to apply) I have that written in a script and placed in system/etc/init.d and it runs in boot every time and looks beautiful. Make sure your brightness is not set to automatic or it will give you crazy green sometimes.

Unfortunately, the Epic 4g has a much better screen. It is brighter and the dark colors are darker. I don't know why. I've had an Epic 4g before and the screen always looked better on my Epic than my Nexus S 4g. They are both Super AMOLED and by the same company but it is obvious that they used a different screen for the Nexus S 4g. I've tried tweaking all the settings on my Nexus but it always fall short compared to the Epic, even on FULL brightness.

I even thought my Evo 4G screen looked better. I've tried various kernels and Voodoo settings, but the Evo looks much brighter and more vibrant next to my ns4g.

Ive had both phones the epic 4g had a better screen hands down & the camera on the Epic is way better than the Nexus plus 720 p video playback other than that the NEXUS is a better phone I like it better if the Nexus had the Epic screen & camera it would of sold even better!

Try to download an high refresh rate kernel like this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427352
The colours should be better!

I'm pretty sure the kernels with higher refresh rate have more washed out colours.

I am currently using Air Kernel with Voodoo colors and it definitely looks better than normal. You might want to give it a try:

I also found this thread....haven't tried it though:

^^ THIS! It will make your screen look AMAZING! The colors are super deep. Just DON'T have your screen on auto-brightness. your screen will turn all sorts of funky green colors.

Cool color temperature

Compared to the Evo, my Epic hasa really cool color temperature. Screen is really blue. Is this normal for this phone or is mine off? This is driving me baddy.

Does me no good, Voodoo works only at 100% brightness...
Mine is like that too. Slight blueish tint compared to my wife's Evo.
I saw a thread about this about a month ago or so... from the sounds of it not all epics were like this. I never noticed it on mine but again, a lot of others have.

Before the Epic came out, I looked at the Tmobile Galaxy S phone and was mortified at the bluish tint of its screen. A portion of a web page which was supposed to appear white would appear very very pale baby blue. It was definitely noticeable. If you are experiencing that on your Epic. . . . sorry. My Epic does not have that problem.

Tell me about the Nexus S

I'm mulling a switch to Sprint basically and I'm considering a Nexus S 4G when I come across, anything special I need to know? Tell me some pros and cons, just wanting to make a good purchase.
-Sent from my Droid Incredible-
Pros: stock gingerbread, samoled is amazing, sexy formfactor body, easy to root.
If your going to root we have a pretty good section of roms, mostly aosp. Go check out the dev section if you wanna get the down low.
Cons: some users have issues with signal reception but mine is rather good, some people don't like the plastic body, samoled sucks up battery if is up too high for too long.
But the only opinion that matters is your own, btw if you don't like it you can return it and get an evo if you like that better.

How common is the signal issue and I've heard wifi has issues?

I haven't ever noticed problems with reception during calls or on WiFi

I agree with everything except this. Samoled uses a good bit less power than LCD technology does.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
And blacks on the samoled screen are the blackest you'll ever get on any screen. It's as if its not even there....

Because that's how it works. The pixels are almost in the off state for black.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I've never kept my phone the higtest setting for the whole day, I'm always on auto, I just guessed that it would suck up more battery than in normal use. Never tested aganist an LCD screen so ..... lol but I've heard different stories about battery life between LCD vs samoled screen so hmmm I don't know >.<

Yes, samoled does use less power then an lcd if you avoid white color

Pixelated screen normal?

Just got a nexus s 4g yesterday. Like it so far. Bit when I woke up this morning the screen looked like it was a much lower resolution. Looks like little dots on every line etc.
Grabbed my wife's evo and her icons look much smoother as I can not see this on hers at all.
Anyone else see anything similiar? It kind of looks like stipulation if that makes any sense (using colored dots to make a picture).
Any comments ate appreciated.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
If you look very close at the screen it looks pixilated but from a decent distance it should look great, I had an evo before the nexus and IMO the nexus screen is worlds better than the evo.

That's how amoled screens are. Read up a little on the difference between LCD and amoled and you'll see that the amoled has less pixels, making it less clear than LCD.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I am new to this type of screen so just wanted to make sure my phone was OK. Thanks for the input guys and if you have any links to send please do.
P.s. I read the previous AOMLED screens were worse due to sub pixel layout.

Ours does use the worse pentile matrix sub pixel layout. Its the newer SAMOLED Plus that doesn't.

Screen not as "Vibrant" as it used to be...

When I compare my GF's Epic's screen to my year plus old Vibrant, her screen definitely looks brighter and the colors just pop a little more. Both have the same settings. It's the same screen. The only difference is the amount of hours that the screen has been on. Do these screens just wear out over time?
It all depends on voodoo color can make it look better an if your on CM Gama really affects it a lot and yea I could just be your screen is dying do to it being oled

Nexus 4 display and speaker

I usually keep my phones on full brightness. I'll deal with the battery draining because I love how it looks with full brightness. Has anyone noticed the display on the n4 kind of adjusting sometimes. I have noticed sometimes it changes to a little darker or a little brighter while using the phone.
I also noticed when I am talking on the phone with the speaker on sometimes it shuts when opening an application or sometimes even without opening an app and switches to regular ear piece. Sometimes it will stay on speaker but go lower.
Anyone having these issues? Its not a deal breaker or anything I still love it. I know phones will always have their issues, I've had ever nexus and the g1. I just want to know if other people are having this issue.

My guess is glitch hardware. Lg is known for making inconsistent quality. Terrible QA. Just because its made in Korea doesn't means its better than in China.

I don't know how you can use this display on full brightness it's too damn bright! Strains my eyes. lol I tend to keep mine around the 25% mark
It's adaptive contrast, runs independent of your brightness settings and there's not an option to disable it. You probably notice it most when moving from a largely black screen to a white one.
I think I remember first hearing about it's use in a Galaxy S2 review, my TV does the same thing on its dynamic setting.
