First of all; please have a patient when you deal with such beginner like me...
Second; I replacd my SD card which I used for root (before several months),
now I tried to applied what is written here to get my language on Nook: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22709152&postcount=26 and reach to final step (adding font) then Nook get hanging!! I tried to hold down on power & home buttons several times then its work with following notes:
- screen of "Reed for ever" appeared not "Rooted for ever"
- My Nook was reset to version 1.0.1
- I can not do the steps of adding the language any more; because always showing error when I do copy system file using "Root browser lite".
All notes above still going even after I update the system to v 1.1.0, but the good thing is the features of root is worked well.
I very like to get my language work. Please advice me if I need to make recovery for original Nook image and how I should do it?
Thank you in advance..
I'm confused as to what you are asking. Do you need help adding the language? Do you need help making a backup of your Nook? Do you need help fixing something after updating to 1.1.0?

Thank you for reply; I believe that the reason is my weak language..
Really I dont know what I should do first!!
My insisted question now; do you think that my Nook situation is need to recover original backup then root it again?! I am very like to get my language on work well at the end but I want to avoid any extra effort..
So... you upgraded to 1.1.0, and now you get a rooted forever screen and it fails to boot up? Or did you have that problem before you upgraded? At the very least, does your Nook boot up? I'm so confused... (sorry, I'm not too experienced)

After Nook failed/braked while trying to install Arabic language; I am not able to do recovery for the original image . It is because that Nook internal memory space is reduced to 240 MB only!!
I tried many methods to discover the remaining lost space using help from xda member (dark_hawk).. I will try more and more over using your kind directions

Write noogie.img to the SD card. You have a a working backup, so you've booted using Noogie before.

You broke something there. You weren't supposed to write the image to the Nook's side load partition, you were supposed to put the SD card into your Nook (you did use a mSD reader to write the image and not the Nook, right?) and reboot, then plug the Nook into the computer when you see Rooted Forever, and THEN write the image to the 1.82GB drive that appears.

You use Roadkill to restore an image to the Nook. Win32 Disk Imager is for SD Cards.

This is step by step how to install ClockworkMod (or at least how I did it). I noticed nobody else really had a detailed step by step for noobs...so here you go
I do not take any credit for the development of CWMod. I just take credit for the guide XD
If this does something bad to you or your device it's your fault. I take no responsibility for anything, any damage to you, your property, or anyone.
You will need...
A micro SD card (and a way to get files onto it)
Patience
to be willing to void your warranty
Step 1.
Download ClockworkMod v08 (This version has been found to work best...the newer version causes some issues with some ROMs.)
The file needed is cwmod_v08.zip and can be found at the bottom of this post.
Step 2.
Unzip the downloaded file to your microSD card. Your microSD card should contain a folder called recovery, and a file named update.zip. (This cannot be done using the internal memory with this download.)
(For those wondering, I already updated the file to point to the microSD card rather than the internal storage to reduce the steps needed.)
Step 3.
Turn off your device.
Step 4.
Press the power button and the Volume+ button at the same time and release them when the Viewsonic splash screen pops up. You should see "Detect a recovery key pressed" pop up in the upper left corner of the screen.
Step 5.
Watch it install. Your tablet will reboot when installation is complete.
If you want to get into ClockworkMod you need to shut down your device, then press the Power and Volume+ button (the same way you did to install CWMod).
Vol+ and Vol- are to scroll up and down, the home button selects an option, and the back option backs up.
Many thanks to all the contributors for making this forum kickazz
Good post! It's nice to see all of the contributions people are making to this thread. I know it's a drag but reading these post and then reading them AGAIN has gotten me over my noob fear of totally bricking my unit.
By CAREFULLY reading the forums my machine is now rooted, running TNT lite 2.2, has full Market access, syncs with my exchange server\gmail and hotmail accounts and oh yeah lets me rock out to Angry Birds, watch video or movies and read books on Kindle or FBReader.
Yeah I've gotten the boot loop and most of the other "there is a possibility this could happen" items. Don't panic, set it aside come in and read the forum and you'll learn how to fix it.
I do recommend Clocworkmod it gives you so many options when you bork your system.
Order that I'd follow
Install ClockWorkMod
Clear the CACHE using CWM
Install TNT Lite 2.2
Install Flash 10.1
Perform Market fix
Install Angry Birds
Enjoy
All of these can be discovered in this thread just remember DON'T PANIC help is around the corner.
Great post! Its true, there was no instructions how to this. I had to get the info from the Tegratab forums. Thank you.

I guess I am really missing something about the steps to install CWM8 as I have placed this on a Micro SD card and when I insert it in the gtab and reboot it only recovers from the original internal file and not the one on the Micro SD card, how do I get it to identify the card?

thank you very much, excellent info
ok, flashing clockworkmod isnt working for me. I already have tnt 2.2 installed and titanium backup. apparently i skipped the whole clockworkmod when i got my gtab and got it hooked up. couldnt wait to try tnt 2.2.....
so, i have downloaded the clockworkmod file and unzipped it to my internal storage. when i reboot with power and vol+ i get to a yellow triangle for about 1-2 seconds then it kicks me to the normal boot and loads as normal.
any ideas on how i can get clockworkmod on here?
i thought maybe i can try rommanager, since this file didnt work, but it didnt work either.
i am wanting clockworkmod so i can backup and flash / install the wifi tether fix for ad-hoc mode.
any ideas?

I had the same issue, I think. But I solved it.
ORIGINALLY (wrong way): I manually put the update.zip file into a folder I created called "recovery."
NOW (right way): I let the zip file extract into my SDCard. This created a folder called "recovery" with a file inside called "command." It also created a SEPARATE file called "update.zip" So it is actually 2 files and one folder.
G-tablet
Sorry i'm not in the loop yet with the tablet, but I've done what I thought was copying then pasting the 2 files, but it looks like its not in the internal root file of the G-tablet as i'm looking at the ES File explorer, when i try from the G-tab to copy then paste it, it says copy failed do i need to do it from my laptop or can i do it from the G-tab and will someone please walk me through it from start to finish, i'm in a pinch here Thanks, anyone ......
Perhaps this will help a bit, feel free to link to this image in other threads where this might be needed. I think I have it correct, let me know if it is wrong. A picture of what you need in order to recover/reflash is maybe worth more than words here.

If installed correctly? ie "Superuser" rights, then go to settings>Applications>manage applications: select an application, you should now have the option to "move to sd card" Note that this does not work with all apps but certainly 80/90%. Future apps will be installed to your sd card automatically.
Good Luck

Move2sd should be in your allow list in superuser.
Uninstall move2sd and reinstall, it should prompt you for superuser rights, once granted you should be good to go.

Is your build rooted?
I m using phiremod evo
how do i check if it is rooted or not?
Hold on, hold on. You boot from the SD card yes? Then your apps are already on the SD card, in the form of data.img ON the SD card. If a 1GB data image isn't big enough, you can actually extend it and make more room, without losing anything.
You don't need app2sd.
thx.. how to i extend it?
Is it full? That's a lot of space to fill. I wouldn't extend it until you need to.
That said, I will explain. Please ensure you backup before hand, just in case. If anything goes wrong, I don't want blame, and I don't want you to lose data.
Boot Linux on your PC.
Boot Windows Mobile on your phone.
Copy data.img from your phone to your PC. MAKE A COPY OF DATA.IMG in case something goes wrong.
Mount data.img with a command such as:
sudo mount -o loop /home/[username]/Desktop/system.ext2 /mnt
Make data.img bigger by typing:
dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=X >> system.ext2
(Replace X with the size in MB you want to add. 100 would be 100MB.)
Then type resize2fs data.ext2
That's it. Copy the modified data.img back to your phone, and reboot into android.
If any of that is not clear, don't do it, or at least make sure you have backed up first.
I take no credit for this, this is all available on this forum, so credit where it's due.
I hope that helps.
My dad's Vibrant's LCD screen got shattered when he dropped it. And it also turns out that the touch screen doesn't work. Another problem is, that it isn't rooted. Thankful to God, I enabled USB debugging when I updated his Vibrant from 2.1 to 2.2. Now that I pulled the files from the internal storage that my dad wants(pictures, documents, etc.), he wants me to wipe everything inside the internal storage partition. Everything other than the screen and touchscreen work(this was verified by using ddms on the vibrant). We just ordered a replacement from T-Mobile and it should be here in less than 7 days...
Problems:
1. Screen is completely black
2. Screen doesn't recognize touch inputs
3. Not rooted
4. Has a lock pattern
Things you might want to know:
1. Has 2.2 on it
2. Has USB debugging enabled
3. Menu, Home, Return, and Search touch buttons work
EDIT:
I was able to pull all the files using
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/ *destinationfolder*
Now all I need is a command to delete all that is inside of "/sdcard/"
2nd EDIT:
I was able to delete all the files from the internal /sdcard/ folder by using:
Code:
adb shell
cd sdcard
rm -r *
You can get into download mode with the buttons and guess the time on holding them down, and Use SDK hooked up to the computer and then at least you could see what's on the phone and copy from that
Only thing I can think of is ADB - but it's been so long I can't remember if it works on non-rooted devices.
Updated OP post...

Why not just physically remove the sd card? I mean, it's an sd card. Didn't it come with a micro-sd to sd converter? A good number of desktops and laptops come with sd card slots.

Internal storage? Yeah, that's not going to work, but I would think resetting the phone would actually reset internal storage.
PS. SD card refers to secure digital cards. I don't know how I am supposed to know "sdcard" inexplicably refers to internal storage on the device.
If your worried that they're going to discover its rooted then don't. Phones without hardware problems just go on a multi phone flashing board. Ones with broken screens probably go in the garbage. On the other hand now rereading I see that may not be your concern.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

does it matter if I have root on this Vibrant?...
I'd just root it, use android commander to view the contents of the SD card, remove what you want removed, then either unroot it or put it onto download mode and flash the stock firmware via Odin.
Seems pretty simple to me.

I've had rom issues with larger microSD cards on other devices, and I suspected correctly that going to a smaller card (<16GB) would allow the rom upgrade/downgrade to work properly.

how to modify about tablet?
First off thanks you for the great video! I did this step by step and rooted my iconia a501 with no issues.
My question is how do i get the model number in about tablet information from acer iconia a500 to acer iconia a501? and under baseband it says unknown?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi! Thanks for tutorial, but I have a problem.
After installing update.zip from first link, I am constantly getting message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." And, have to FC it...
What can I do to fix this? And to try whole root process from start.
Thanks in advance.

it shouldnt cause any issues so leave it as it is, if you still really need that changed, repeat step 3 but a rom that is meant specifically for a501.
Have a great day bro

After the installing the first file, you will get force closes, that is par for the course... dont worry just continue with the steps and you will be good to go.

Hi there.
I am having some issues with getting the recovery to boot up the update.zip (link 1)
It loads and then the ! in the yellow triangle inside the android comes up.
I have tried both a 32gb (class 10) and a 8gb (class 2).. (I also just tried another 8gb class 2... nothing)
I am holding the vol down + power on just like in your video.
Can you lend any assistance?
Regards
(501, stock as, OTA 3.2)

I am guessing that you renamed the file you downloaded to update.zip instead of unzipping it...
the link one file is a zip file and that will need to be unzipped again and you will get "update.zip"
Copy this to the external sd "mnt/external_sd/update.zip"
let me know if this helped

Hi, my father told me root his nook touch without glowlight. Left upper button is not working. So I decided to install touchnooter.Because you don't have to use buttons while installing..But i forget its version, it has to be 1.1 i guess. But mine is 1.2.1 after installing its reboot and stuck at starting up screen. İ got it's backup. So i think revert it back. While reverting i deleted all partitions and installed backup. But when i open it it saying install failed power off bla bla.. :crying: What can i do right now please help me...

Is your backup a full version of all 1.86 gb? (this should be done through DiskImage, I guess)
So, you deleted all partitions and then did Write the backup, right? Did you get any warnings during these two processes?
In what app did you delete all the partitions? If something like Partition Wizard, you should press Apply button after you select the task.

Thank you, firstly. my backup is not full backup. And i think i selected wrong drive And i use partition wizard and i apllied all these steps.
So what kind of backup do you have?
Did you back up /rom at least?
Put noogie on an SD card and backup what you still have using Win32DiskImager.
Don't dig a deeper hole for yourself.

Oh, so you backed up mmcblk0p1, the /boot partition.
As I said, the first thing to do now is to perform a backup using noogie.
Get your ~1.9GB backup before you dig a bigger hole.
Depending on how badly you wiped the memory the /rom partition may be intact.
The next thing to do is to see if you have a zipped rom backup in /boot
Go to an empty directory on your desktop.
Code:
imagefix [i]my80meg[/i].img /pnst /l 1
That's a slash ell space one at the end.
Is there something like rom_backup.zip?
If there is, do:
Code:
imagefix [i]my80meg[/i].img /pnst /x 1
If not, try your brand new ~1.9GB backup:
Code:
imagefix [i]my2gig[/i].img /pnst /l 2
If that looks like files, try:
Code:
imagefix [i]my2gig[/i].img /pnst /x 2

I write the code but i got program stop working error. Is it about Windows 8 or mine?
And how can i get 1.9gb backup
I don't have any idea what error you mean.
Could you quote the error?
Do you have noogie on an SD card?
If not, search for noogie here, put it on an SD card and boot your Nook.
You can do what I said in the last post with the 80M backup that you did.
