Hi experts.
I just got a Samsung Tab P1000 from a friend who didn't need his tab. So I thought I want to wipe it clean (He had pictures, videos etc) and I wanted to be as if I just bought it.
I did the factory reset thing, and to my surprise, it started wtih a portuguese language, and I could update the firmware because Kies didn't support it by some reason.
And a few hours ago, I tried to stock firmware it, by downloading "GB Stock Safe 5".
I got a green pass in Odin. But when my tab reboots, I just get a black screen. So I've managed to access the "downloading, do not turn off target"-screen. But I have no idea what to do next.
This is what I know about the tab, before I tried stock firmware it.
Firmware Version 2.2
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
BuildNR: FROYO.XWJJ7
Thank you in advance.
When you used Odin, did you screen look similar to this? (the 3 checked boxes on the right, the 3 filled in boxes to the right)

I managed to succefully restore it back to factorysettings, by the guide from TeamOvercome.
espionage724, that's exactly what it looked like. But I wasn't sure what files to use for "phone" and "pda" because the risk of bricking it.
But everything went fine.
I have a few questions though,
I'm now on,
2.3.3
GingerBread.XXJQ1
BaseBand: P1000XXJPZ
When I connect it to Kies, it states that this is the latest firmware. Is this the best firmware for this type of model? What kinds of custom firmwares are common out there?

Hmm, I think that's the latest version available from Kies (I could be wrong). In any case though, Overcome is a popular choice for ROM and Kernel. Hyperdroid is my personal favorite for a Gingerbread-based ROM and also has a decent Kernel.
For the best ICS-based ROM, I recommend trying out CM9. There are a few things still not working, but I find it suitable for daily use
I went ahead and installed TeamOvercomes 4.1.0. Neat look, fresh design.
What's ICS-roms? Can you install (overwrite) it on Team Overcome?
I'm a rookie, so some of the terms sound unfimiliar

ICS = Ice Cream Sandwhich
Most ROM's are based on GB, or Gingerbread which is version 2.* of Android (ICS being the latest currently at version 4.*).
Currently, there are a few ROM's that offer ICS, but the most common currently is CM9 (but most people would suggest this is not for daily use, or in cases where you need your device to be 100% stable). CM9 is currently in development still
Edit: CM9 = CyanogenMod 9
i think it is better to stay close to official stock rom and current one for galaxy tab is gingerbread, considering daily use and stable operation. root your galaxy tab and tweak (my opinion).

1) Is there any good reason, why i should upgrade my tab.?
2) My tab is rootet with z4root app, and think i will loose my root if i upgrade. ?
THx in advance.
if you havent already moved to the JMI firmware from one of the chefs, you dont need this update. Stay away from it as it may contain a locked bootloader. just go to the tab android dev forum and install any one of the JMI packages.
not exactly sure what version i got on my phone.
Havent installed any custom rom/kernels
here what its says
current version PDA:JJ3 / PHONE:JID / CSC:JJ2 (NEE)
Wants to install PDA:JMI / PHONE:JMA / CSC:JM4 (NEE)
Pretty novice on this forum, so dont know whats it all means.
have tried to figure out what version of tab i got, gsm or CDMA, and what rom/ kernels i could install.
The galaxy tab department in xda forum is a little konfusing to find info.
Maybe somebody have the answers what all this means.
and yes have tryed the search button many times.

Well , you are from Scandinavia. Sweden or something lijke that.. But you willhave the GSM-Tab. If you like the tab as it is, just do the upgrade. If you want to root and flash custom roms like i.e. the Roto-hammer. You need to root and flash those. The latest build is JMI. The custom-roms are already based on the JMI. In the development-topic are very good guides howto.
Thx for reply
Will try out flashing with odin, just came from Htc desire so its a little different system, flashing tab, hope there will come an recovery rom out so it will be more easyer installing new roms.
Ps not far from sweden . Im Danish, but bought tab in Norway
2) My tab is rootet with z4root app, and think i will loose my root if i upgrade. ?
FWIW, I accepted the Sprint OTA update last week and 1.) lost root, 2.) haven't been able to get it back with Z4Root. If I can ever get it back, I'll stay away from any future updates from the provider.
I had a look at the Roto JMI thread and it seems his version has some problems with the english dictionary. I wonder if these issues are fixed in the version offered by Kies. I really would like to keep my root access, but I need a rom which is as stable as possible because I need my tab for work.
At the moment I am still using the last official version which was offered by Kies (PK5?). I'm unsure if I should flash roto's rom or the new Kies version. What do you think guys?

I would like too see a offcial rom, not some debranded provider ones
jvx and jvw are here now which is a 100% clean stock version
no pre rooted or other stuff
i highly doubt an ICS build from samsung since theyve already announced builds for galaxy s 2 and a few other devices but no mention about about galaxy s and if you are a true flashaholic flash CUSTOM ROMS also the onecosmic ICS AOSP build is much better with less bugs and faster in general
I don't think we 'll have ICS
I think that there wont come ics for gt9000. But try teamhacksungs ics mod. Pretty good now,love it

i would love to do this but for 4.0 i will wait till its developed all a little further and they fixed the hardware acceleration. and when all stuff works. ill do it.
but i have never flashed custom roms you need root and stuff and need to backup that uhmmm idk the name but the imei, but you need root for that.
i only flashed tons of stock roms. and i look forward in trying 4.0 soon is it already good enaf for fulltime use ?
Would love ICS from Samsung, but I'll settle for CM9..
Hi everyone! I hope I have came to the right place. I recently rooted my Galaxy Note 2 on AT&T that was running 4.3. Had some issues mainly because I forgot to also flash Gapps to my phone. Anyway, before I flashed OMNI ROM to my phone, I was wiping data like I saw you were supposed to do when I wiped the Android OS... I know what you are thinking, n00b. Honestly, I have wanted to root my phone for a while but it seemed complicated. So anyway, it said I had no OS installed. So naturally, I freaked out. Then I thought, woah! I can just flash OMNI ROM now so I can still have a phone! Which I did and Gapps and my phone is working awesome now. Just like Android 4.4.2. However, the only feature missing is the Multi-Window Feature. Is this because I erased the OS before I flash OMNI ROM? I tried downloading multi window support from the Play Sore however it just said that I don't have a file installed or my device isn't supported. Which I know it is because I used to use Multi-Window like it was my job. Any help would be awesome everyone. Thanks and have a wonderful day! (Sorry for the long post)
Try to find an unofficial build for your device that has it. I maintain builds for the HTC One and Samsung Nexus 10 (m7att and manta, respectively) that include it. It's not in unofficial builds yet due to issues/coding in it, but it's decently stable if you can find an unofficial build in your device forum.

I downloaded one that was official and unofficial. Both said they had Multi-Window Support. Do you think I should unroot and go back to Stock ROM and try to re-root but this time not erasing the entire Android OS?

Not at all. The official ones do not have it. If the unofficial one you're trying doesn't have it, but is listed, then ask the person who compiled it.
If the unofficial version has multiwindow but you can't turn it on, then maybe you don't know how to? It's not the same as Crapsungs implementation.
1. Open any apps
2. hold down the home button to get to the recent apps
3. Touch and hold on an application
4. Select add to split view

Hello guys,
Right now I got android 5.0.1 with knox.
I'm looking for a custom rom that looks like that:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It is importent it will be custom rom because I want to be able to instal xposed, and it has to be for android 5.0.1 or above, because from what I understood, knox blocks downgrade attempts.
If someone can help me I will appreciate it very much.
P.S
It should also support Hebrew(witch is right to left).
Hi,
Use this step -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58985536
to downgrade. If your bootloader is locked, you can't downgrade nor root it.
But, instead following download ARO firmware, download Stock KitKat firmware from your phone region.
But, since Xposed is supported on Lollipop firmware via arter97's one, I suggest you to flash one of deodexed custom ROMs and install Xposed on it.

First of all, thanks for your help.
I didn't quite understood though - should I follow the guide you gave me but with Stock KitKat from my region , or with a costume Lollipop ?
Personally, I really like the layout I showed in the image, just need to be able for it to support exposed.
The kitkat layout and lollipop layout on touchwiz are pretty much the same, only the colors are different.
If you don't want to go through the process of downgrading, then just flash a custom touchwiz rom. There are couple in the android development section. Take your pick. Make sure it is deodexed.

Do you have any good recommendations? I prefer rom which don't have all the junk apps and "s finder" and such..
I'm not a fan of toucwhiz roms. There are 3 or 4 of them here on the forum. And there also is Echoe rom which left xda but they still have their own site. Just google them.

Hi. Anyone using this ROM outside Middle East region on their Note 2's? I flashed this ROM a couple of weeks ago, but the device started to get serious lags and freezes, even restarts! I went back to UK ROM but the problems still persists. I don't think there is a physical damage to the device as I never carry it around, only use it as a second mini tablet on my workspace for reading additional documents. There are almost no games or other software on it, only a couple of social media apps, Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber etc. I did a full wipe and reset each time I flashed a ROM but the problem is still there? Did this ROM cause this? Anyone having problems with Middle East ROM in Europe and UK? I was ecstatic to learn that Note 2 was patched with Security Updates (which was my main reason to go for a Z5 Compact last Autumn, I wouldn't replace my Note 2 if only it got Security Updates, I couldn't care less about newer features on newer Android builds) but it messed up my phone Any suggestions?
Good rom for me!

I'm not having much problem with it here in the US. Some occasional reboots, but I'm rooted and encrypted so there may be other factors for me. Pretty stable. The combination of having the security updates and device encryption keep me on this rom. If anyone has been able to get device encryption working with CM 13 on a Note 2 let me know how, and I'd probably switch though.
Do your factory resets first, then flash with Odin. Try running it for awhile clean, I avoid the Facebook app. It's also possible you got a bad download.
Best wishes,
I am running the rom for a week now runs perfect no crashes or anything!
does it still look like the old note 2 4.1 ? and do I just flash it like any custom rom? what would happen to the root?
