Hi!
I have been trying to connect to my to vpn pptp server (witopia.net) for 2 days. I tried every combination that i could think, but there must be something i am doing wrong. I think the mobile is trying to connect to the vpn server through gsm because everytime i try to connect the gsm signal bars disappear for a few moments. How can i make sure that the vpn connection goes through wifi?
I have managed to actually connect to the vpn server, but i cannot access websites like facebook and youtube from the Leo (I live in China and they are blocked). I am able to access blocked services through my iphone and laptop through the same vpn connection.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

PPTP on WM6 is a major problem. Especially if the server (and most do) required MPPE. Its one of the few niggles I have about WM. If you own the server your best setting up the conection using L2TP/IPSEC.
Or if you dont own the VPN server, and have a server laying around the house (as I do) you could set up your server to use the PPTP VPN then set there server as a Proxy, and connect WM6 to the server via proxy...so basically WM6>Proxy>VPN>interwebs
Hi Jagnet, Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately i am not able to use Ipsec/L2TP in China, only PPTP works fine with blocked sites.
After trying many combinations, there is a step that i havent been able to figure it out.
Once i am in Start > Settings > Connections (tab) > Connections (icon) > Advanced (tab) > Select Networks, How do i select the WIFI connection in "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using" opcion? . On the modem tab i only can choose "celullar line", "Celullar line (GPRS)" or "Hayes Compatible on COM1:", there is nothing about WIFI there, so when i try to connect at the vpn server specified in "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using", the phone seems to be trying to connect via GPRS.
¿Any ideas?
Thanks

having similar issues with HD2. CMCC as well, in China.
I am getting a proxy IP address if I check on ipchicken.com, etc
but I am not able to open FB.
I am not using the PPTP option, but using their SSL service with
openVPN. but STILL not working..
right now on support chats with witopia.
VPN PPTP is simply broken in WM. It will work, but only with no encryption at all, which beats the purpose.
First of all sorry for bumping this old thread. But I have been looking and it seems kinda close to what I`m doing, oh a little new to vpn.
I have managed to sucessfully connect the HD2 via VPN in connections only when on the lan (outwith I need to contact O2 to get it enabled apparently). I setup a dialup connection in Win 7; HD2 says I`m connected to the VPN.
However heres the thing. Am I right in thinking that folders by default have to be shared. Therefore when using resco I can see network folders anyway, when connected to wifi.
So how would I prove that I can see folders shared to the VPN and not on the LAN as I cant seem to prove whether I`m seeing the folder via LAN and not on the VPN?
Sorry if its confusing but perhaps you get my drift? Or am I missing the point entirely....
Here's the problem.
When I try to connect to my University's network , the Galaxy S is able to connect JUST fine. However, when I open a browser it says the incoming certificate is not secure and then I have NO INTERNET on any page.
What the network is supposed to do is redirect me to the login page so that I can register the device to the network. My phone can't do that apparently and just sits connected to the network with NO INTERNET connectivity. How can I fix the problem?
This is the university network and the instructions how to get on it for Android devices:
http://www.colorado.edu/its/docs/wireless/androidwireless.html
I connect to it just fine but am UNABLE to get to that device registration/login page.
This is NOT just for my university. ANY public network which requires me to accept an "agreement" before it lets me have internet access, my phone KILLS ITSELF and CANNOT pull up the agreement page but instead tells me there is no internet. I'm SURE its a software problem or something with settings but can't figure out just what it is. Help?
Just about the only networks I can connect to on Wi-Fi are home networks. It SUCKS.
Hi,
Even though Network connection is fine (Hspa/Edge), I faced the Internet/Data problem with Cyanogen Android Mod 7 2.3.2 on a Tmobile HD2 ( from SD card, Dual boot configuration with WM6.5 sitting in ROM).
I could not access internet in android in HD2 and searched to find a solution.
The working solution (APN/AccessPoint should have been set correctly) is:
1) Copy directory named "root" present in SD-card/Android/240buildprop
to
SD-card/Android
So the path to folder now will be:
SD-card/Android/root
2) Open build.prop present in path root/system .
Edit the net.*.dns1, net.*.dns2, net.*.dns3 entries, replace the IP addresses present there with the DNS server IP addresses of your cellular Network.
This will make DNS resolution work.
If you dont know the DNS server address of your Carrier, then another temporary solution is to:
Use Google Open DNS server IP addressess:
net.*.dns1=8.8.8.8
net.*.dns2=8.8.4.4
net.*.dns3=4.2.2.1 (an open DNS server address)
(Permanent DNS addresses should be your Network DNS server addresses unless they are slower then Google DNS servers)
There will be multiple *.dns1 s present in the file, I modified all of them.
A simple tip to know if DNS resolution could be the cause of internet access failure is:
When a URL is attempted to be browsed, the UP Arrow on top of the H/E network Icon will blink, but the Downward arrow does not blink at all.
I found the *.dns1 change in some other thread but it alone did not work for me.
Hope the above information helps others!
If someone finds how to make the Data/Internet faster on Cyanogen/ginger bread on HD2, please let me know in this thread
It helps everyone.
Cheers
HD2 android internet problem after disconneting from WiFi
There is another internet/data problem.
This arises when disconnected from a WiFi connection after using internet.
No internet usage may be possible after this,
The solution as someone already pointed out is to Disable Wireless connections(Airplane Mode) and then enable All Wireless connections again.
This worked for me too.
The root cause seems to be that android (cyanogen mod v7 on Hd2 here) seems to want to use the WiFi connection only and not attempting to use the Data connection over 3G/Edge.
I guess disconnecting data connection and re-connecting would be cleaner than enabling Flight mode.
An android app for doing this would be great (this feature is available in HD2 on WM6.5 though)
Update: Found a free app "AutomateIt"
I set 2 rues in it so that data disconnects after Wifi Disconnect.
This solved the no data connection on 3G/Hsdpa after disconnecting from Wifi
updated the jellybean to 4.1.2 using the clear-data-method-in-GOOGLE-SERVICES-FRAMEWORK
My N7 is not rooted
I am now unable to surf internet using my company's wifi network. Was previously able to log on & surf before the update.
I am able to connect to the wifi network but the icon remains greyed out. I cant get on the internet.
I get prompted to log-in the network - which is the logon page for the administration of the router Dlink 660[or something] -> which i dont have authority to do so.
Company running wpa/wpa2 psk type with mixed 802.11 n & g settings on the router
I have NO problems with wifi at home.
Have tried :
1) Tried using static instead of DHCP in wifi settings, but still no go
2) Nothing wrong the the settings of the DATE/Time
3) Deleting & re-adding Google account
Am at a loss what to do. Please - any assistance for my problem.
Your company like my school have a desperate login page. You need to open a browser and type your user name and password. Clear the browsers data and cache before doing this.
