rooting the mytouch 4G slide 2.3.6 - myTouch 3G Slide General

I just rooted my T-Mobile LG G2x 2.3.3 with CWM and flashed CM7 on. It was a whole lot easier than i thought it was gonna be! I used my linux box which made it even easier than if i were to do it on Windows. Gotta love Linux!
So the question i have is can i root the MyTouch 4G Slide the same way? As well as flash it the same way as my G2x? I have heard it is one of the harder droids to root and rom. Insight/thoughts/help? Thanks!

You're in the wrong place man, this is myTouch 3G slide, not 4G slide.

Lost G1

Hello, i dont know where to put this thread so i just put it in the general thread.
But i lost my G1 and im not sure what android device to choose next.
requirements is that is must have a physical keyboard.
anything else is game.
i was thinking about the g2/g3. is it the same to root it and etc?
any other suggestions?
I will buy G6 if I were you, the difference between the price of G3 and G6 is not much. But it doesn't have Physical keyboard...? Consider Mytouch 3G Slide if you want one with physical key.

are you trying to be smartass? ive never heard of a g6 let alone g3, there is however a g2.
and for the op the mytouch 3g slide is probably the best physical keyboard android right now or a droid (best phone but not best keyboard).
Or you can wait and see if the rumored htc vision is announced and released anytime soon.

No there isn't, and there isn't even an g1 for that matter. The phone is called the "DREAM".

It's funny how you can call Tmobile, ask questions about the G1 and they'll know exactly what you're referencing.
For that matter, "isn't even an g1" is grammatically incorrect. Just thought i'd put you in check.
Have a nice day.

Based on your reply, i'm trying to figure out, why is it the bootloader on the "DREAM" says.... "TMobile G1" in big ass letters...
alright, well i have some questions about the mytouch slide, can i root it for custom roms?
is it more responsive than the g1
and another question, is it essentially the same thing as the mytouch just with a qwerty keyboard?
peas and tanks
ohyeah, and if there is any other recommendations for android device, give them to me, as of now a physical keyboard isnt necessary
zachary: root hasnt yet been done on the MTS, but its being actively worked on by several developers. it does have a hardware keyboard, a slightly faster processor and much more memory.
however, if you can live for a bit without a phone, rumor has it that TMO is going to be anouncing the Galaxy S on the 19th.
I heard the next google phone will have a keyboard. But who knows when that will happen..

i was thinking about the mytouch3g slide, and i looked around in the forums, and it looks like there IS root access, but one of my main concerns, is the phones speed, one thing i hated about my g1 was the lag. i always had lag, has anyone expierenced this with the slide?
EDIT: also, if someone could tell me how to ordering of the nexus one works, in laymen's terms, it all seems a bit confusing, and tmobile isnt selling it apparently
I've been told many times that the myTouch slide runs just as fast as the Nexus. And yes, it is rootable.
Edit: And lag is all in how you use your phone. It may lag for you, but not me. That just all depends.

myTouch 3G w/ 3.5mm Froyo w/o root?

So I'm curious my friend has the 3.5mm mytouch, which I believe is 32a, and I was wondering if there was a port of some sort that could be flashed without having root? I think I've seen somewhere that G1 users were able to apply the same ota update that came for the original mytouch, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Any help on the subjectg would be greatly appreciated.

No one has an idea if this is possible?
You would need to be rooted in order to flash it.

updated phone and now its crap

Ok so i had installed universal androot on my sisters tmobile mytouch and got it rooted everything working fine thanks to you guys on the forum!
now a few days ago she updated it and ever since its super slow and it keeps restarting. I would think its because of the root but i cant even get to androot to unroot the phone because it freezes and then restarts on me...any ideas?
One, its not rooted anymore. Two, the update has been hosing a lot of phones. Does she have the headphone Jack on top or the Fender edition?

headphone jack.. I just read the other thread and am trying to dl all the stuff for it but its taking forever....
i just need the phone rooted so that she can do wifi tethering.
I did factory reboot and am now going to try universal androot again... here goes nothing!
Universal Androot wont work since your on 2.2.1. Basically you've got three choices.
1. Reinstall the update the right way which will improve performance, but it wont be as good as 1.6. I can provide the files and instructions if you want to go this route.
2. Root and install a custom ROM which, if you pick the right one, will give great performance plus extra functionality. You can use one of my guides on the first page to get this done.
3. Have her call T-Mobile complaining about the performance saying that she already did two factory resets with no change and they will send her an LG Optimus T.

think im going to go the optimus route. Can that phone do wifi tethering or will i still need to root it?
Probably still going to have to root, but its just as easy as the myTouch if not easier. Mine will be rooted on Wednesday when I get it. So just PM me and I can babystep you through it. Do a Google search though because I'm only 95% sure about wifi tethering not being stock, not 100%.

3G and H switch back and forth in custom rom

So I flash all the custom rom for mt4g, gorilla, evil, cy and notice the H change to 3G and sometime to E constantly, at first I thought it may be the coverage area. My friend has pure mt4g, never rooted, never flash, it is a stock rom. His is H while my Gorillia DHD said 3G, I decided to do a speed test, my friend mt4g was faster with H while my was much slower even though we sitting next to each other.
My question is why does the 3g switch back to h constantly? and when it switch back to 3g, it was slower too?
Where can I get pure stock rom from tmobile for the mt4g so I can test it against with my friend mt4g phone?
The stock tmobile ROM shows H for HSPA and HSPA+. while the custom ROMs show what you are actually getting.
Your phone is being honest, while his is lying about it makeing you think its HSPA+ all the time.

While you are correct, he also made it clear that speed tests indicated better performance out of stock. I have also experienced this issue, it is the primary reason why I don't use CM7. I'm in a pretty bad coverage area, and it seems that the stock rom does a better job of managing the shift between different networks. The best speeds I got were on CM7, but in a series the results were all over the place. In an applied situation, streamed video would constantly need to rebuffer with CM7, while my GF's stock would play it smooth. This wasn't a one time test, i did it 10-20 times in different areas all with the same result. I don't blame CM7 by any means, but I can't get it to be consistent so I can't use it. I'm new to android but i'm not new to hacking/flashing devices, this was the ONLY problem I couldn't resolve with CM7, everything else ran flawlessly.
My wife is still rocking tmo's stock ROM while I am using CM7RC1 ive personally never had performance issues that she passed with ease.
I cannot relate to what you are describing.

I see the custom Tom are more honest but the speed issues still are not explain, tmo stock get better speed but performance is crap compare to cm7, I try to restore back to stock so I can speed test but have no luck yet does anyone have the stock tmo so I can install through rom manager?

Have you tried running the Iced Glacier rom? The one you're using now won't even load on my phone, and I have the MT4G, been running the Iced Glacier rom for a while now without seeing that issue...

actually I did and I do see it happen too, but it is rare, I have yet to speed test the ice glacier vs pure glacier from tmobile

Could be a problem with your device. I ran Iced Glacier for about a month, never had that problem. Also I'm running evil's 4g-HD now and haven't ran into that issue. Will run a speed test a get back at ya.

If you want to unroot click the link in my sig for pd15img.zip. Put it on the root of your sdcard, rename to pd15img.zip and boot into the bootloader and follow the prompts.
Hate to Necro, but...
This seems to still be true. Does every single MT4GS with a custom ROM do this or is it just me?

Why are people posting in the myTouch 4G when they have a myTouch 4G SLIDE section? Go over there and ask, we don't know anything about the MT4GS.
Wow.

Need help on Rooting a Mytouch 3g 2.1

Okay, first off, i want to get this all cleared up. Im new to XDA, and im new to actually ROOTING an android phone. Although, i am quite technologically smart, i just need a helping hand. Ive seen few guides on how to root a Mytouch 3g 1.2 with 2.2.1 Froyo. But it seems like every guide says something different, etc. If anyone is willing to help, that would be great.
Im trying to root my Mytouch 3g 1.2 (With the 3.5mm Jack, not fender edition). which has 2.2.1 Froyo OTA.
If anyone wants to contact me in any way, email, phone, etc. That would beyond perfect.
Thank you very much,
Brandon.
