[Q] cant backup my stock rom and data with 2nd init - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i managed to install 2nd init ver 2.0
bt whenever i try to make backup of my current rom..
it says problem backing up system, problm backing up data, problem backing up devtree..
why this is happening??any idea?
i want to install cm7.1
is it because of less free space on sd card?
how much space does a normal backup take????

I don't know the reason for why you can't, in my case works... anyway you can flash the stock firmware with RSD if you wanna back to stock after flashing CM7

Space required for a CWM nandroid backup varies according to what you have installed. On my still-to-be commissioned Defy+ with almost no Market apps installed, no e-mail accounts configured and no SMS messages sent or received the last backup took a bit over 300MB. On my green lens Defy with more Market apps installed than I can actually remember, two live e-mail accounts and a bucketload of SMS messages the last backup took nearly 700MB.
If you have ~1GB available on your sd card then you should be able to make a full nandroid.
If it's not a space issue then you may be unlucky enough to have an sd card which doesn't work well with the phone (eg see this thread) or maybe it just needs reformatting (copy the data off to a PC first!)

Did it)
It ws a matter of space..i freed my sd card.and backup is created nw..it ws of 1 gb...
Nw abt to install cm7.1 and gapps..
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

just installed cm7.1
it looks great
also installed gapps
everything is fine
my network,data pack
everything is working..
bt i cant install apps from market..
have any idea y??
cant install watsapp...

[Q] Titanium Backup + App 2 SD Pro ?

Hi Guys!
I want to switch to another NAND build, cause my current one does not have OpenGL support!
I want to port all my Apps and Settings to the new build, but currently im using App 2 SD Pro to move my internal Apps to SD Card (Its not the partition one, i need to move the Apps after install manually).
If i backup all my files with Titanium Backup, is it possible to restore the Apps and Settings?
Or maybe my Apps are still availible after reinstalling App 2 SD Pro cause the Apps are on SD card which will be not formatted?
Greetz and thx,
infernalshade
Yeah, all your apps (apks & data) & settings will be backed up & restored as long as you select the full backup & restore function in titanium...There's even an experimental feature that remembers and restores files back to your sd where it was copied from...i haven't tested this feature yet but do feel free to try it...
P.S. if enabled in settings (usually enabled by default), ur apps downloaded from d market place & phone settings are backed up 2 google's servers (tied 2 ur gmail acct)...Restoring em is just a matter of syncing to ur gmail acct after a flash..Using Titanium is much faster as everything's stored on ur sd card n doesn't require re-downloading, if u wisj 2 restore via titanium, do not add ur gmail acct yet till u've completed d restore process and rebooted ur phone.

[Q][5th May] Move back to internal from ext

I have tmous with 16GB card with a 1GB ext partition. I would like to move my apps back to the internal storage and recover my 1GB.
The second part is easy, what I would like to know is if there's an easy way to move the content of the ext partition to internal storage (without uninstalling and reinstalling all the apps).
Would making a fresh nandroid, removing ext, then recovering nandroid work?
I'd go ahead and give it a shot, but as this has become my work phone, can't really afford too much downtime. Hence, looking for advice...
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my Atari 400XL using cassette tape and a stamp.
Titanium backup makes it quite easy for me to install 50+ apps in under 10 minutes with the only downtime of rebooting once..
1 backup via Titanium
2 move data from card to pc
3 format card
4 pack data on card
5 reboot ( only downtime but necessary so that the ROM detects that there is no ext partition)
6 install Titanium
7 restore via Titanium
I am sure there are nicer and more elegant ways ( via adb ) but this one prove to be working for me.
The only issue might be that you run out of internal memory but in titanium you can check how much of your 1gb is used and how much internal memory is available.
Hope it helps
EDIT: just read about " Advanced restore" in cwm where you only restore data.. maybe worth a try..

I've had really poor Results with titanium lately. About 1/3 fail to restore properly. Seems there must be a mount point I can dd to?

[Q] Memory & Cache cleaning in SD Query

I have a big question about clearing out my SD with unused application. Here is the scenario. I switch ROM from Floyo.025 to Froyobread 0.12. After flashing and wiping all data, i noticed that the apps i used before in my Froyo is still in my SD card. My questions are, how can i removed all those files from my SDcard? Should i reformat the SD Card or should i have to re install all that apps from my Floyo to make it work in Froyobread? If i reinstall apps and put it in my SD will it just overwrite the previous data or will it add a new folder again? I really dont know what to do to free space on my SD. I used Titanium backup to restore the apps but it just causes instability in my new Froyobread. I also try to backup the Floyo with xrecovery before i switched to FloyoBread but its not the same when i tried to Restore it, some apps are not functioning anymore. I want to delete all the unused apps and its data in my SD and start a new clean installation again.
A lil help guys. Thanks much. xoxo
last time i flashed a new rom i had the same issue but i just formatted the sd (i did it like in an automated way didnt think any other option as i thought its normal)
anyway the point is that i didnt encounter any problem after this
Hmm i was also thinking that, but i was so uneasy since there is some files i would like to be left in my sd like my openvpn settings, frameworks that should remains in SD root, my media's such as mp3's and images. Transfering it all over again is not a good idea to me since they are big files. I just wanted to removed those application that was installed in my last ROM or maybe if confirmed that if i reinstalled them they will just overwrite my previous datas of that specific apps in my SD.

[Q] problem with coping sd to another

Hey everybody i just made my account but I'm not a total noob. like the registration video says ............as i know how to root and copy apps to sd and roms and xrecovery and all that stuff......etc.
Anyway the problem i faced is that i have my x8 rooted and all app on sd using "link2sd" and made a backup with xrecovery too then i decided to buy a new 8gb sd card but after i partitioned it and copied all my stuff when i restore my backup my apps doesn't show
so please any one tell me how to copy the whole things from my old sd card to my new one to have the phone just the same but with larger space in sd ?????
thanks for anyone who helped or even tried to.
put in your old sd card, so you will have all apps installed, backup them with titanium backup, then make a partition on your new card, put it in the phone, restore apps with titanium, move them to sd card witk link2sd
i hope that this will help you
Use Clockworkmod-Recovery.
It also backs up your sd-ext and the.android_secure folder.
every thing is screwed up when when i used that CWM recovery it could not restore the backup on the new sd card so i went back to the old one but it restores with no apps appearing in menu they are installed but corrupted or something .....after that i went back to xrecovery with hope BUT no .......the same thing happened restores with no apps appearing so i'm kind of desperate and probably will reinstall each and every app. losing all progress in them and all info so any last suggestions plz.......
AND thnx for anyone helped or didn't

[Q]Any help for My best HD2 ROM Ever tested ???

This is the best HD2 ROM I've ever tested but only missing 1 thing... space
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022108
The Amazing Qaliza incredible S V2.... It have all the requirments for day to day use as speed, stable and even looks gr8
Is there any way I can increase the internal space as I get only 81 MB after install wich is not enough for my day to day used apps....
Any help would be thankfull
Use an ext partition, as per post 1.
1st of all thx for the reply
In fact that's what I've did.. but the thing is in post 1 it's mentioned for the V4 ROM which is Data2sd while this ROM is built on app2sd.. and this is the problem...
So any Ideas????
Ap2sd and data2sd both use the same ext.
also, you are aware that the system wont include the ext value when you view available storage, right? But it will use it as internal storage.
So say you have 80mb free plus a 1gb ext partition, your available storage shows as 80mb, but really its 1104mb.
Third party apps like titanium WILL include the ext value.
the thing is that it's included and this is 4 sure... but I really can't install any new apps as it says you are running out of storage... and this is the problem.
In titanium backup I have the storage reading like this :
System ROM:325 MB (3.28 MB Free)
Internal :95.6 MB(12.1 MB Free) - and this is the problem
SD card: :2.90 GB(148 MB Free)
SD card a2sd:1.00 GB (808 MB Free) which I can't do any thing with them
So this is the problem in easy way.... Any help, Plzzzzzzzzzzz
I've tested alot and alot of ROM's but I think this is the most stable, smooth, fast and even all features working in excellent Condition such as camcorder, vedio playing and all the stuff you need in day to day.
So if you could suggest another ROM that functions as good as this one it would be gr8 to have it but the thing is that it should support Arabic language as well.
Sorry for the long reply but just wanted to clear my point of view and my request

Most of your apps downloaded from market will be installed there. So...what did you mean with "which I can't do any thing with them"?
as post above, and also, could it be that the 200mb used in your sd-ext partition is left over from an old rom?
To wipe the sd-ext, go into cwm and run a wipe data/factory reset (but this will of course reset the rom and wipe the phones data, so do a backup first)
Also, i think there are some terminal commands to restart/activate app2sd (or data2sd, ) perhaps they would help?
For me, the one time months ago that i had issues with teh sd-ext partition seemingly not being used, i just took a backup, repartitioned the sd card, reflashed the rom (since i suspect that app2sd is initialised during first boot) and it worked.

That's what I'm talking about... That I've done task29 wipedata/factory reset b4 starting to install the ROM and when 1st start it the sd-ext is almost free then while installing the apps some go there and alot doesn't !!!!
for example now I have about 11MB free on the internal storage and 808 MB Free on the sd-ext, If I tried to install an app that is 14 MB I wouldn't be able to do so
For your knowledge, I've tried to install alot of rom's and they worked perfect, tried to contact Qaliza but I think he is busy now repling for my Issue, wiped my phone till I felt it wouldn't remember that he is a cell phone any more reinstalled the rom many times and always have the same Issue with the low disk space.... I think I'm in need of a patch or something like this.
Now I have a Q:
If I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20776525&postcount=2733 will it help or will it corrupt my ROM only??
sorry if my Q looks stupid but I'm really looking for any thing that could help
