Considering how much I enjoyed my dvp I decided to order two of them for a friend of mine. I made sure that they were carrier unlocked and I had them sent from the US. The dvps arrived with factory installed Mango and some t-mo stuff installed (?). I tried an Italian sim card to make sure they were unlocked and it worked perfectly so I just uninstalled the useless apps from t-mo and went in the settings panel to change the language of the device.
I'm able to change everything but the display language. From what I learnt on xda it needs a registry hack to fix this but considering the fact that we can't do that is there another way? My dvp can change the display language with no problem so I thought I could flash these dvps with the rom of my device but it seems a bit extreme to me...
(a cool thing about t-mo dvp is that it can set google as default search provider)
You do not necessarily need to mess with the registry to install additional languages. I was able to install the dutch language by using the Windows Phone update application from Microsoft after downloading the language pack and some other update packages from the Windows Update site. The links to these packages can be found here.
It may require an dev unlocked phone though, but I cannot be certain for that... I used ChevronWP7.
I successfully did the cab sender method but the display language is still "unclickable", any advice?

Anyone? I really need to change the language.
Someone in the update cab thread was saying that the DVP only allows you to use the english language pack. I don't know if this is true, or whether having a developer unlocked phone would help.

Ascario, did you install the Dutch language on a DVP, or was it another Windows Phone model?

That could be true. My dvp is dev unlocked but my subscription is expired and I can't unlock the other devices. I guess I'll have to wait 'till someone finds the way to unlock the damn dvp.

I did install the Dutch Language on my DVP. I have to admit I was surprised it actually worked and "Nederlands" became one of the options in the language menu. I have to add though that I have a German DVP, Italian was already one of the options. If I'm not mistaken, there is a difference between the US and European firmware. You basicly need a European DVP to add other European languages, except for Spanish perhaps.
do we have the .ffu of the european firmware? if so, is it safe to flash that firmware on US DVPs?

Hey, sorry if this has already been posted on how to change language, but i have some specific questions i would like to ask.
1) I bought the Touch HD from Taiwan and the language of it is Traditional chinese, i was actually thinking that it was an international phone and would have several languages to choose from... but apparently not.
How would i go about changing the language from chinese to english?
What would i have to do?
2) If i change the language, do i lose everything that is currently on my phone?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
You could just flash a new Rom, it will change the phone to that Rom and replace what you currently have, a lot of Roms have the same stuff just tweaked for better performance so you would not lose much.
That is assuming your not on a phone carrier plan of course, check out the different roms to suit what you want
This phone was bought outright so im assuming im not carrier locked (Kinda hard seeing as im in australia and it was bought in taiwan )
So i would have to use HardSPL?
There are two options to do it there are excellant directions for both in the ROM section I used HardSPL but the choice is yours
Hello, I want to change the display language to spanish in my AT&T HTC Surround but the setting appears to be locked (the option is in black background) and can't be changed when I tap on it.
Also, the only option for keyboard languages is english.
Am I doing something wrong or is it that AT&T removed those features?
Do you guys know if this will be fixed in a software update?
Thanks.
the OS supports spanish, but at&t probably chose not to include the language pack for whatever reason. It could be added in a future update, but its entirely up to at&t.

The solution is change the AT&T firmware to Telus Canada firmware. More information in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10176994#post10176994
Hi!
I'm completely new to WP7. I bought a HTC Trophy last week that unfortunately is branded with Vodafone. I live in Sweden and bought it from a company here in Sweden who take the devices from Europe. I don't know the exact country. I guess it is a Vodafone device from German since the pdf manual on the CD is German.
My questions:
1. How can I be sure that I choose the correct ROM?
2. If I choose wrong, will I brick my device?
3. Debranding. I guess it's a one time procedure? If I debrand it I will get the updates directly from Microsoft and the device is still debranded after a update?
By the way. Great forum! Developers, keep up the excellent work!
Regards

1. Go to Settings -> System -> About -> More info
Find your operator here from this thread
Then you need to find appropriate ROM for your device.
2. It should not let you flash wrong ROM even if you try. Update utility check your phone model and CID. So it should be safe.
3. If you unbrand your device, you will still get updates from MS, and from HTC. If you for some reason want to install branded ROM later, you can do that at any time (if there is a branded ROM for your device), check here.
i am going to use this thread to post a question. After battling with wm 6.5 for more than an year i went to wp 7. I am new to the operating system and i wan't to know if there is any real need to go for a different Rom than the one that came with my device. Is there a need to unbrand the phone?

Well, for me personally I unbranded my phone mostly for two things.
1. The annoying Vodafone page that I came to when pressing search button in Internet Explorer.
2. In the future I hopefully get the updates as soon as Microsoft releases it. When branded I had to wait for Vodafone to test the update.

I'm actually planning to buy a WP7.. wondering does it same as winmo which we dont nid Rooting ? or it is like Android or iOS tat we nid rooting/JailB ? thanks..
Debranding has nothing with jailbreak to do. I'm not sure if jailbreak is possible on latest WP7 release. For me jailbreak isn't an option. Just wanted to get rid of all Vodafone stuff in my device.
I got a small question and I am hoping that someone can help..
Right now I am running the NODO update on my non-branded omnia 7 with the chevron unlock. When the Mango update comes out it is finally possible to choose the Dutch language as live account, that means i have to hard reset my phone (and lose my unlock) to config this account. Is there a way to downgrade to a pre-nodo rom?
I saw on the forum that zune makes a back-up of your previous ROM, but somehow this didn’t happened with me.... The reason why i want my unlock is that i use alot of app's that are not in the market or not made for the samsung (like advanced config, a real flashlight app and the htc app )
Is the solution to flash the I8700XXJK1 firmware??
I appreciate any kind of help
Hello,
So about using dutch on your phone, Im quite sure if you go into your settings > region, you'll be able to change your language but if that doesnt work, the firmware i've linked has dutch preloaded. forgive me if it isnt dutch but im sure it is
http://hotfile.com/dl/108507919/184f77a/I8700DBTJK1.rar.html
its the DBTJK1 firmware
heey kingjovius
Thanks for your reply, I see now it's possible to change the language of your phone... I thought it's only possible when the phone is turn up for the first time
I hope the Mango update comes pretty soon so I can get the Dutch language, if not i will flash that rom you posted
I think he is confusing Dutch with German (as it says DBT in de ROM file).
Hi @all,
i have a question according the correct image to flash.
I have a Xoom from the USA with CDMA (it was a gift).
I'm living in germany and normally it is no problem to use the xoom with english language. But some apps turn their language automatically to english (acc. the OS language) and there is no option to turn it to german.
So now I want to flash a european image, but which one?
Is this one correct and do I have to flash the verizon update, too?
Thanks in advance

This is not my area of expertise but a more informative post title might help you get attention from someone who knows about this area.
OK, changed the post title
If you dont need "root" but just german language as default locale, then go with official motorola roms.
I have flashed many of the motorolla official roms, on the US Verizon 3G Xoom, and they all worked (without GSM/UMTS obviously!)
http://developer.motorola.com/products/software/
You can pick the German retail one..
if you select the UMTS version, it will ocasionaly get some error msgs, related with the lack of UMTS hardware (you have CDMA) but without creating any usage problems.
If you select the wifi only version, you will have no error msgs..
Follow moto instructions and you will be fine, but DO NOT "fastboot oem lock" the device at the end!
