Xoom 3g Verizon update... NOT!!! - Xoom General

Omg... according to Motorola's support, there's no date for the update of the Verizon Xoom....
I will never buy another Motorola gadget.... (naaaa i hope with googerola they will give a better support.)
Enviado desde mi Xoom usando Tapatalk

That's because updates for the US Verizon Xoom come from Google, not Motorola. Moto will release it when Google gives it to them and Verizon approves it.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk

Yeah. Should have known Motorola was a **** company when I used a Droid X for a few weeks.
The Xoom is a great device and I like it a lot, but it is the last Motorola mobile communications device I will ever buy. Not including modems and embedded stuff.

Google creates the updates. Motorola pushes them. Every single Xoom OTA originates from http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/verizon_trygon/otafilename.zip.
Motorola controls and creates ROMs for all non-US Xooms. In the United States however, the Xoom is a Google Experience Device. If you go to "About Tablet", you notice that it always has a kernel built "@apa28 #1". This is the tell-tale sign of a Google-created ROM. It also uses Google's build numbers (i.e. HLK75H, IML77, etc.), not Motorola's. Also you'll notice that US Xooms still can't write to the SD card. In international markets where Motorola creates and controls the ROMs, you can. It's because Google hasn't written it into their ROMs yet. I could go on and on.
Trust me, for the US Verizon Xoom, the updates are created by Google, not Motorola. Motorola just handles pushing them to the devices.

Moto is getting ready to soak test JB!

According to droid-life.com:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/11/1...te-for-razr-hd-and-maxx-hd-likely-jelly-bean/
I can neither confirm nor deny if such a program exists due to agreements I may or may not have made while filling out a form that may or may not exist.
I know that the rumor is Dec 17th but I wonder if a soak test means that time frame will be moved up or not.
I may have received an email this day that may have been similar. Was kind of surprised that they asked if you're rooted and sounded pretty cool with it simply requesting that you unroot before they pick your brain. Never ran a presoak before unless you count washing my car. Usually just grab leaks once they're available but didn't want to grab the recent leak knowing official JB was right around the corner.
Here's to a great phone getting a great OS update!
Hope I'm included in this!....

Any idea as to how long it will be before the soak comes out? I tested ICS on my Bionic, and can't remember how long it was between the time I received the email and the update came to my phone.
They will send out another email when they start releasing the OTA update for the soak test.
Got my phone too late and doubt I will be added

When I did the soak for the OG MAXX, they sent a second email saying it was being sent out for the testing phase.
It was only a few days after the invite email was sent that the 2nd one was sent out and, that Saturday morning it was available to install.

No development for Europe?

As I'm still patiently waiting for the kit kat update for my region, I wonder if they have completely abandoned Europe development. I still have the mj6 update which is the latest firmware for Greece. Since then Samsung had released mk1, ml1, kit kat etc for usa but they completely neglect Europe the last 6 months.
Is this normal or they have sold like 30 tablets in whole Europe and they don't even care?
So who are the other 29 who had bought note 10.1 2014 from Europe?

Germany here, I bought one of the remaining 29. I'm still confident, that we will get the KitKat update soon. Being not the first one getting the update is not always a bad thing. There are reports of horizontal lines at video playback and audio glitches with the current 4.4 version. As I use my tablet heavily for video playback, I would not be amused about problems concerning video playback.
So I hope Samsung gets this sorted out then they can start to roll out the update in Europe as well.
I use the us update here in Switzerland. I have no issues at all so far. Videoplayback I is fine for me. I'll install the AUT version when it arrives, but no rush kitkat is great.
Samaung is always bad with updates, worst was HTC but now they are the best, they provide new android os within a month with sense ui and latest sense 6 to previous high and mid range devices. While samsung never ever upgrades ui. You should always consider this b4 buying sams phones but i expdcted some aosp or ports from other devices, sadly we also lack these
Here from Netherland, and I bought one of the last remaining 28. Sadly no kitkat update here, but I have no issues at all. I don't expect kitkat soon.

No you're not. If you were you wouldn't have started this thread. The EU usually gets non-carrier updates first. In this case the U.S. did. And it was about ten days ago which for those not anxiety stricken isn't a lot of time. This thread is just like the SM-P601 and SM-P605 "Samsung's abandoned us" threads. Everyone wants to be first but obviously not everyone can. Suck it up.
I'm in the UK here I bought one of the last remaining 27 but as @foo rightly pointed out it's better getting it later as it normally means all the little and big bugs get fixed. Either way your not the only one waiting there are 30 of us

But geographically neutral. I would have said the same thing if EU N10.1-14's got updated first and someone from the U.S. threw a tantrum. And I have no skin in the game. My N10.1-14's from Latin America.

I know but you need to root and trip Knox fuse. Multi user is a core feature since 4.2 so there's no excuse for Samsung in a premium device like unlocked P605s. That's my point of view, maybe wrong maybe not [emoji12]

Moto X Sales figures to 1.4 millions based on this positing:

Now i made this conclusion based on this link:
500,000 from Late August to November.
http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/12/5097532/moto-x-only-500000-devices-reportedly-sold
900,000 in quater 1 2014 globally
http://www.cnet.com/news/motorola-to-shutter-texas-factory-building-moto-x/
Which equal 1.4 millions devices on Q1 2014,Q3 2013.
Now, Motorola or google want to sell it Texas factory what will the Moto x2 or Moto x+1 will look like?
As the deal is over by December of this year.
You guys posted and telling me or informed us with your opinion or conclusion to Motorola second devices that sell over million that they posted in sales figures since the original droid.
Samsung seeks over 10 mil and HTC half of that with much greater margins. It's all business, btw I don't think Google ever intended to ever keep Moto they just wanted the patents.

Actually if you think about it Moto was already doing horrible before Google bought them, it was only time before they cut jobs to stay alive. Google made smart decisions imo not everything Google does is good and Google didn't do this for charity but I believe it made Motorola phones matter again, before they bought them not too many people even considered Motorola as a potential phone.

All 4.4.3 rollouts paused to bring 4.4.4

http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=401890
You have to scroll down in the google+ thread to find
Sorry for the delay in giving an update on the 4.4.3 upgrades but I had to wait unit Google announced KitKat 4.4.4 today (I am bound by a NDA). A significant security vulnerability was discovered by OpenSSL (https://www.openssl.org/news/secadv_20140605.txt) and is fixed in KitKat 4.4.4. We had to wait until KitKat 4.4.4 became available.*Consequently,*all of our 4.4.3 upgrades that were in carrier labs worldwide (including the 2013 Droid's) had to be respun, tested and resubmitted again. This was a significant unplanned effort that we had to undertake. We should be re-entering labs next week and hopefully getting TA (technical approval) in 3 to 5 weeks later depending on the carrier.

It already supports band 4 LTE and has since 4.2.2.
Carriers purposely slow the update process. Buy a shiny new phone instead is their view, however irresponsible that is (since they're making money on locking people into contracts for their service except T-Mobile, of course).
They very slowly test their software, network performance, and ability to use LTE on other US carriers (Verizon hates that T-Mobile also uses band 4 and sets the default APN to an old, non-LTE one - completely against the rules of the C block ruling). It won't change to fast.t-mobile.com unless you're outside of a T-Mobile LTE area and you have to manually create a new APN. Sometimes it'll change back to epc.tmobile.com and you have to forcibly change it multiple times. That's why Verizon takes forever. They're more concerned about their SIM unlocked phones being usable on other networks.
Sigh... I don't understand how Google could overlook something like this. And it's not like 4.4.3 was a major release. And because I'm on Verizon, we won't get the update for another couple of months.
Verizon was among the first to get one of the last updates... Sheesh, just be a little patient...

Unfortunately its not completely on the manufacturers (some manufactures don't care) and Google. The carrier variants have to go through carrier testing first before being approved for release. This gives the carriers a chance to add their crapware, brand the software, and test it on their network. Those with DE or GPE phone get their updates directly from Google or in the Moto X's case Motorola. They don't have to go through the carriers before releasing the update.

God, can we cut the nonsense? The bug was just discovered according to the open SSL report and Google came out with 4.4.4 days later.
