Volume rocker controls music - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Besides some cm7 roms and mikrunnys sense rom, do any other roms have this feature?i love the utility of this and I actually use it as a make or break for flashing different roms

I'm running Reality's Zips/ice cold insomnia hybrid and it allows me to do so. I'm sure that Ice cold or Zips would do it as well seeing as it is a hybrid, don't know which he pulled which parts from. Zips is seeing some good/fast development so I would start there if you are interested.

The ICS ROMs have a feature to skip tracks w/ the volume rockers if that's what your asking. If you're looking at trying zips' builds, the only one that has this feature is his latest 4.01 release, otherwise, IceColdInsomnia and the mash-up build I posted awhile back both have the feature.

[POLL] What ROM do you use?

What ROM do you use, and why do you use it? What other MODs have you applied to it? For the poll I just chose the ROMs that seem most popular. I'm sorry if the one you used isn't listed, just post it here anyway.
For those that flash a number of ROMs, like me, just choose the one you use most, or the one you "fall back on" when you're done testing other ROMs
And yes, I'm aware of this one, but it's a bit outdated with the ROMs.
Other ROMs commonly used that I didn't list
I'll update this if there are a number of users that use ROMs that I haven't listed (There will be, lol)
List thus far:
SuperFroyo/SuperBler (I still just count these as CM, but hey) - No users in this thread yet, but it's apparently popular
MoDaCo custom release - 1 ex-user so far
Plain ol' rooted stock - 1 user
What about the all famous superFroyo (now called Superbler If I'm not mistaken)
Not that I've every used it but there's much attention for it.
I dno what to vote for yet
I've always used CM but I now I use blayo's to test the data2ext (which isn't really great, yet)
I might go back to CM when CM7 has the fixes for GPS and 3D. But I would love to have flash on CM hopefully someday,...
We'll cross the SuperFroYo bridge when we get to it Anyway, it's basically CM.
I started with Modaco MCR r4, but now changed to B 0.2
It's Sense-based and already has most of the changes I made to the MCR rom (update Gapps, facebook, move busybox in /system, circular battery...). Only thing added is DrRomca's "amibios" bootanimation from Modaco forums
I use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870662
It is a rooted stock rom. I can't complain about it.
BlaY0's B.02
I tried every single ROM in this section, except variations of rooted stock ROMs and this is the first that really feels a good bit faster then others (data2ext enabled).
Other then that CM is very nice of course. Used pretty much every version from Indigo Beam to the latest nightlies until 2.2 got released.
I use CyanogenMod since Azure. Now I have 6.1 and I'm waiting for a fully functional CM 7 experimental build.
I haven't tried other roms, but I follow the updates on the forum. The main reason is that I don't think that roms based on the stock one will be upgraded to Gingerbread, therefore I don't want to change rom knowing that I will be forced to return back to CM.
Big fan of CM but I use BlaY0's now. Waiting for CM7.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
CM all the way. Haven't tried BlaY0's rom but seems to be getting positive feedback from users. Won't flash it though, waiting for CM7. Sorry Blay0.
CircleMOD battery with themed notification icons, BiosAnimation bootscreen, remove some system apps. Well thats about it.
Right now I'm using CM 7, because.. well it's Gingerbread Went from BlaYo's B 0.1, and it's pretty good. Actually made me like Sense again.
using CM6.1 atm (couple of days)
but as i am reading more and more, everyone saying that Blay0's b0.7 is showing better performance than cm, but cant say till i try
i am kind a new in android word, i will use cm for a while till i get the guts to install new rom without messing something up
cheers
EDIT: from 26.02.2011 blay0's rom and it rocks
CM from the very beginning (love the tons of features/settings added)...use now CM7 (usually flashing nighties as they came out), snakehult 130DPI LCD screen density, data2ext2 (thanks TGM), CWM3 (not S-Off unfortunately) , Honeybread theme
Have tried many, now on CM7 and B0X time to time.
I need better sd ...
Standard stock rooted rom, but I'm about to test CM7-RC2.
Tried CM6.1 and it has horrid for me, so I switched to blay0's 0.7 ROM and never looked back.
I'll look into CM7 when it's pushed as a stable release. I'm not one for nightly testing.
cyanogenmod7 #8 here
First real custom ROM was CM6.1.
Then got a little bored and tried Blay0 B0.X for awhile.
Now on the first release of CM7.0 and seems stable enough for me!
Only issues I've spotted so far on CM7.0 are the Menu button/Optical pad wake, all else seems sweet
Cm7, I'm loving it

[Q] Best CM7 build

Idk if this as been asked yet or not but I was wondering which was the most stable build so far that every feature works or almost every feature. Ex. ffc, video, wifi, qik etc. (like the features that works as if it were stock)
Thanks in advance
P.S. Thanks to all the dev/dev teams for all they do cuz of all of ya I think I'll never go back to the Iphone EVER!! ANDRIOD ROCKS!!!
There isn't really a good answer for this yet. They change every night. FFC isn't a rom issue either, its a per app issue. The way the devs wrote their apps for 2.2 was wrong, therefore imposable to function in 2.3. The devs have all been emailed by members of the CM team asking them to fix, but only tango has updated to support gingerbread correctly.
The "best" CM7 build? As you've defined "best" there is no single answer.
Some might tell you to wait for the first Release Candidate -- the first beta, prior to Release.
Some might tell you to wait for the Release.
Some might tell you to stick with a recent nightly build, watching the thread in the development subforum for hints on recently discovered issues that might cause you concern, or the advent of newly deployed features and functions that are of interest to you.
Be aware that the ROM is effectively an Android distribution -- developed to run on many different hardware devices, each with its unique requirements. The HTC Glacier is only one of many.
Quick question, does the gps work in cm7? I'm running the newest build (just flashed today) and everything seems to work except gps. Then again I'm in my apartment and haven't been outside to test.
EDIT: Disregard my question.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
It usually does, it was broken in the last nightly. The devs are aware of the issue and it should be resolved soon.
thx will try it
#40 has been tagged as Release Candidate 1. Look for RC1 at the teamdouche download mirror. GPS issue appears to be resolved.
HTC Glacier CM7 RC1
So they just released CM7 rc1 just as I was about to install CM6 rc2. My question is...
Should I get cm7 or cm6 rc2?? Im a noob to this thing but I have been reading a whole lot &i am aware that they are all a work in progress. Im not looking to overclock nor constantly try custom roms & all. Id jus like to give one of cm roms a try, but ine that will allow me to still use my gps, tango & my other 3rd party apps.
This may help you decide, and of course you may install either:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/changelog
Note that CM7 is Android 2.3 -- this makes one additional complication -- you need the right version of ClockworkMod Recovery for system image backup/restore (Nandroid backups) and the flashing of ROMs and related software. 2.x is for Android 2.2 ROMs (Stock, CM6, IG, etc) and 3.x is for Android 2.3 ROMs (CM7, GingerCracked). Make sure you do your backups and restores and flashes with the right version.
Option94 has created a unique version of ClockworkMod Recovery that can support both versions of Android: 3.0.0.6:

Thanks. I did read that the ClockworkMod Recovery is different for CM7. I'm gonna watch the official thread for CM7 RC1 & then decide

new migrant from the epic forums here

i am completely unused to having so many options of what to flash, it's a little overwhelming. can anyone point me in the right direction to show me what all i've been missing out on?
There's many roms and kernels in the dev section welcome to the evo forums but my favorite is cm7
evo on cm7
sense - koni elite or calkulins or myns
2.3 - cm7 or Salvage mod. MIUI is cool for a while too
Ports are more difficult, but viruses sense 3.0 is fun
my faves are in my sig, and MIUI is a fun one to play with, but no 4G. There are some nifty Sense2 ROMs, like avalaunchV3, and can be awesome, depending on which screen HW you have. it's based on a beta leak, and the drivers for certain screen types are not present yet.
ALSO! in another day, HTC will be releasing a new gingerbread update, which will be making for some AWESOME ROMs in the coming week. keep your eyes peeled.
awesome! thanks for the replies folks. currently running evodeck 1.2t and loving it.
my epic never saw true aosp before, so as far as kernels. . . is it cool to flash whatever aosp kernel on whatever aosp rom? any wiping to be done when flashing kernels?

Wipe cache and dalvik before flashing kernels. What recovery are you using? I would suggest AmonRa, due to scripting issues. Make sure the kernels are Gingerbread-compatible. I would suggest Tiamat w/ SBC. I made a poll, and it is the winner.
yes i'm on amon-ra, was good to see it again i missed it from my g1.
thanks for the suggestion!
definitely tiamat. Try MIUI for a totally new experience as well.
Try Decks or Myn's rom.

hey quick question on roms and which ones have been proven and are current..sorry

hey guys, and sorry for a question i know must have been asked before, but i am unable to find.
What roms are the best and most up to date as of now?
i was going to go with cm7 but saw we had cm9 and a few others out there, my real question is, anything better then cm7 out there?
this will be used for my wife, who just wants it to work, as little freezes and hang ups as possible, feature set means nothing next to speed and reliability.
this is my last attempt to make this phone usable for her before i take my 12 gauge to it. please please help! i have to her hear whine everyday with the 2.6.1(think that's it) kernel on there (hasn't been updated in over a year, so anything should be an improvement, it's just hard to get the phone off her long enough to toy with it)
In that case I would use either Superclean 3 or Geewiz
Both are stock EH03 based Touchwiz ROMS. Neither has bleeding edge features but they both just work and are the most up to date ROMs that come from the Samsung/Verizon base. Personally, I have found these ROMS to be the best on battery longevity.

cool, i already d/l'd the geewhiz but it's not taking like the other rom's i'm used to, flashed stock rom E3 and booted in to recovery and tried to update with gwiz through recovery, signature error of some sort, will try again with the other one you mentioned ..... or do i need to load the kernel using odin then flash rom through recovery?
I would also recomend giving Team Hacksung ICS build 6.5 w/ Icy Glitch v14 b4 kernel a try! No doubt superclean and geewiz are great roms, but I think you will like ICS 4.0.3 the best...just sayin.

i thought i saw that as a beta build, been around long enough to be proven?
[KERNEL][CM9][1/29/12] Icy Glitch V14 - BETA - LiveOC - Voodoo - DIDLE - USBhost
gotta bail from work will be back on with the tablet in about an hour.
ICS still has some issues and while it's good enough for 99% of people if this is for pure stability for a nontechnical user I'd say to go for the ROMs I mentioned earlier. Some issues on ICS are MMS doesn't work with wifi on, the datadata issue, the ui is a bit different from Touchwiz ROMs, phantom ring still occurs, CWM and nandroids still have some issues, and it's on a pretty rapid release cycle which would mean that you would need to update her phone fairly often.
ICS is great and it's what I'm running but I think the more mature EH03 ROMS are appropriate in this case.
EDIT:
The link you have goes to Glitch which is a kernel. That is part of the operating system but isn't the entire ICS OS. ICS ROM development is centered over at the rootzwiki developer forum. AOKP, Gummy, and teamhacksung's build are the premier builds.

Yeah, i figured if the kernel was in beta the rom would be as well, got her on super clean and she likes it , still can't tell the difference between that and a 2.6.1 build that was beta around a year ago, lol, thanks for the help and ics is sick , but bob nailed it in regards to my intentions.
That said , thanks to the both of you for bothering with this b.s. question in the first place , i was at work trying to sort her phone out , she needs her phone , life is chaos and time is short, thanks for making it all a little more easy. Also great to see such great support still going on for this, envious with my charge in regards to roms.
Hope i don't need to post here again for a while if you get what I'm saying, haha !! Thanks a ton !

[Q] Android Revolution HD links not working. Any alternate link available?

The download links at the Android Revolution HD ROM aren't working in the original thread.
Does anyone have any alternate link?
Can anyone upload it somewhere please?
If you want a stock rom with root access I'd suggest Revolver. It has all the ASUS widgets you were looking for in the other thread you posted, but with a lot of tweaks to make it perform faster. It's (in my opinion) the best ICS rom that looks like what you got out of the box.
Having said that, the Jellybean (4.2.1) roms are pretty awesome.

I installed ARHD ROM. Went to their IRC and got the link.
I've refrained from JB ROMs because of the lack of Asus apps only. Also, I quite dislike the change in the bottom buttons, notification panel, etc..
I had tried RaymanFX 4.2.1 ROM v0.6 It was laggy for me. It's become better now I suppose?
About Revolver, should I go for it over ARHD?
The thread's too long and I wasn't sure about what Revolver Parts were being mentioned on the thread, so I stayed away from that one.
Revolver Parts were recently discontinued. Essentially they were just add-ons via an app on Google Play. When I ran ICS I used Revolver after spending a lot of time reading through each thread. It's the closest to the stock rom I could find and was pretty happy with it. I didn't go as far as installing Revolver so I can't say if it's better or not.
I'm currently using ARHD and am quite satisfied with the performance. I'd upgrade to 4.2.x sometime in the future perhaps. RaymanFX or something..
From your signature...EOS has come out with 4.2.x ROMs? Last I saw they were 4.1.x based. Or I might have missed something.
I had flashed RaymanFX's ROM but didn't like the changes made in JellyBean. So I switched back to ARHD.
Also, Camera etc weren't working back then on 4.2.x ROMs. If any 4.2.x ROM gets stable enough, I'd gladly upgrade.
