My defy has started to become sluggish at times. Imbusing cm7 stable.
It wasnt like this before. So i have a question. What does wiping cache in recovery do? Does it factory reset my phone? Will wiping cache make the phone fast again?

your phone wil be clean and fast. Wipe data/cache remove everything. after that you must to configure everything (google account, install apps...). Dont forget to backup! (titanium backup...)
Thanks for the reply..but are you sure data and cache are both the same??
I thought cache was just the cache used by apps..

History eraser does everything, call logs, sms, web cookies, you tube, and other stuff. Its the app with the eraser icon not the trash can. The trash can one fails on a part of deleting so that app is no good if you need to go further than that and are rooted you can try cache mate. Which will wipe cache without being in recovery or you can just go into recovery and wipe cache. I prefer the recovery method. Because theoritically to properally wipe cache you should not be loaded into the os

+1 on just using the recovery that we already have, no need for another app... Unless you feel like you have too many available system resources (if I had a nickel for every time my phone ran too fast and smooth... I'd be in debt...)
Just make sure to wipe dalvik cache at least, especially if you've installed a few apps since the last time it was wiped (which would be the last time you flashed a rom, if you're never done it, the phone doesn't wipe dalvik automatically...ever...)
I'd recommend wiping both the low level linux cache ('cache partition') as well as the dalvik cache

did you verify the MD5SUM of the download to make sure you didn't get a corrupt file?
Did you by any chance install any of those leaked Nexus Prime apps, like the market and/or Google Plus app? Those have been known to cause constsnt FC's. If not, re-download, re-wipe then re-flash.

I had this problem when I first installed MIUI 1.9.xx. I solved it by doing TheDerekJ's SUPER.DUPER.WIPE(adding "-file" to the name). Prior to that I only wiped data, cache, and dalvik check.
I Uninstalled music 4 and did it tried again with another full wipe and it worked so i guess it was a problem

I don't think it was music 4 as I had no issues with it. My problem was solved by formatting system, cache, data, and dalvik cache. I'm guessing I had some crap from my other roms lingering.

Is formatting system part of super duper wipe? if not ... how would you format system, cache, data, and dalvik?

I formatted via CWM. Reboot phone into CWM--->CWM Recovery--->mounts and storage
At least this is how I've always done it.
I am on xeu's latest firmware for my phone and come to refresh the phone with a menu forced reset
i have come to try and push some of my apps from google play market to the phone and its saying that the apps are already installed on my phone
they cant be cos my phone is now wiped
any idea if there is a problem with the market or could it be something wrong with the note ?
thanks
Think i know whats wrong appears cos i went from gb to ics and back again google play wont push when i select from play website or through app brain
Put ics back on and it works fine
Any idea how to solve this? it should work on gb and ics so u can decide if u like the new firmware appears google think not!

Have you tried wiping the cache and data on the play store app, probably worth uninstalling updates also. Just an added check, but might be worth flushing the dalvik cache also, sounds like it's retaining some settings.

It's weird it works ok on ics
How do I wipe dalvik cache ? I'm not rooted just on ics German release
I did a complete hard reset via menu not via home / vol up and power so my internal sd was wiped (did this on gb which I had the problem with)
Seems ics is ok but gb fails ?
Thanks in advance
If you're on lpy German, then I would suggest to let it lie. If you've done clear cache and clear data,.then don't perform any extra wipes.
usually this kinda thing points to settings applied in the dalvik, think you need cwm to wipe that, or in the play store app itself. If you've cleared that then I'm out of ideas.

Everytime I try to wipe cache partition, it always instantly finishes. As this process normally takes seconds, can someone shed some light for me? Is there a way to fix it? Maybe update to a newer recovery?
I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks!
Its not a problem, cache wipe was intentionally made so fast and this was also confirmed by quarx itself. So dont worry.

what is it? and how do i do it? wipe data doesnt deleting the rom?
Go to custom recovery and do it. It only deletes user data, not the rom itself
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
Didnt work coz as i flashed the rom at startup it has began with this error
Sent from my MB526 using xda app-developers app
I'm sorry, but I didn't get what you are saying. Data wipe didn't work because you got the same error, or are you unable to wipe data and cache for some reason?
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
What i ment was as i flashed it new, at startup.the error accured.
So wipe data didnt work for me or fix permissions or flashing again
