I recently changed ROMs on my droid3 (from steel droid v3 to v4.5) on v3 I could tether (via bluetooth) and access internet flawlessly, and now on v4.5 I can't, any ideas/hacks to make this possible again?
Yes I did post this question on the steel droid forum as well. Just looking for any advice

My girlfriend recently got a MyTouch 3G, and I was thinking about rooting it for her. I have a couple questions. I've read about some of the Roms and the rooting process.
1. Does the Wireless Tether for root users app work? I saw that some Roms have USB tethering unlocked, which will also work, I just hoping to use Wireless Tether.
2. What ROM would you recommend? I want to be on a Sense based ROM. I haven't figured out if its A or B but it has the headphone jack.

There is no sense rom for the headphone jack, but however there are rom that have root+wireless tether. Go to www.theunlockr.com and there are how to's to root. and there are also all roms for your phone that are linked to xda
You can go here instead to root. There are Sense UI ROM's that you can flash on that phone from the G1 Development Section.
You need to read over this thread and you'll learn a good bit about your myTouch.
wireless tether
I recently rooted my tmobile mytouc 3g and have attempted to download wireless tether for root users from the market place but it doesn't come up. It comes up on the market with my Acer a500 and I even attempted to send it via bluetoothto my phone but it still doesn't allow me to install. It mentioned something about my provider not allowing me to have it. My phone is using clockwork mod with cyanogen 5.0.8-dp. If anyone knows what I can do please help. Thanks
You might try cyanogen 6.1 stable so you can have the 2.2 android that may be the reason its not showing in the market. There are other wifi tether apps as well

Thanks, I'll give it a try
5.0.8 cyanogen on my phone allows teathering. Right in the wifi and network settings.

They are talking about wifi tethering not usb tethering

Xtacy if that doesn't work pm me you email I will send you a wifi tether app that I know works with our phones

The built in wifi/Bluetooth tether doesn't work. I think its because of my a500 tab and android 3.0. You think it would be easier because they are both android, oh well. I didn't attempt the update to 6.1 yet.
Well I have a apk that will run on cm6.1 for sure so let me know

Hi there,
We've just developed on Motorola Defy an app for real USB Tethering,
Can anyone test it on Droid/Milestone?
It can share your Motorola's internet connection to your pc!
It's a real tethering not a simply MODEM Tethering, you should NOT pay extra cost to your Carrier!
The app is TOTALLY FREE, thread on xda:
Moto Tethering USB
bye,
Can't use it on milestone says it isn't rooted but it is rooted

Same here with froyomod 2.8. I get the message phone not rooted
I successfully rooted my wife's Droid 2 on Gingerbread and now when I run the wireless tether app, I get a notification that i'm using the hot spot feature, takes me to a website showing me the cost to adding the hot spot feature and not allowing me to tether unless I pay.
Is there a way to bypass this so that she can use her wireless tether without this nonsense?

There is 'wireless tether for root users' in the market and it is free. It allows for wifi tethering.

That's the app i've been using. Never had a problem on froyo but now with gingerbread, it recognizes that a hotspot has been activated when I turn on the wireless tether for root app.

This will work, I use it myself even on cricket.
Google wifi tether, it will bring you to the current google code versions, itll be something like wifi tether beta7 it will be yellow instead of the typical green
Menu>Settings> Change Device-Profile
Change to Droid X
Done
got a quick link?? I cant find this
Looks like beta 7 was taken down off the site. Beta 6 doesn't work.. Wow how lame, root with no hotspot. this forum is dead

I can confirm that beta 6 works 100%.
Just finally got success on gingerbread rooted Droid 2.
When we opened the settings, 'Droid X (CDMA)' was already selected.
I could have tried it before and selected that option in the past (and this maybe was reading those settings)
but with everything normal except Droid X (CDMA) chosen it works. Try it!

Wireless tether app v. 3 beta11 does not work for me even when set on DroidX (CDMA). Is free wireless tether with root a thing of the past? I've seen the TBH hack, but I don't run windows and I don't know if I trust myself messing with the phone that much...
Works fine for me on the 1/21 build of cm7

Niether one of the above mentioned versions work on my R2D2.
You need to get a hold of the team blackhat zip file that's the wifi hotspot hack, then you will flash it in clockwork mod recovery. After that download the latest wifi tether apk file and it will work.

Im using a rooted dinc2 does this blackhat.zip flash still apply?
Anybody get wifi tethering to work on rooted ginger 596?
Yeah Verizon added some code into the stock gingerbread build that lets them detect when an app is attempting to create a wifi network. So it high jacks you to their website. You can either use team black hats wifi tether fix, or use a custom rom that doesn't have that ****ty code in it. I'm currently using MIUI 2.2.10 and its basically a gingerbread rom with ICS features. You can run wifi tether no problem on it, it also has its own built in wifi tethering feature.
If you're gonna stick with gingerbread stock though, team black hats zip fix is most likely gonna be you're only solution.
I am running 2.2.2 rooted Motorola Milestone X. Is there a current root for 2.3.5? I use WiFi Tether to surf internet on my laptop at home. When my girlfriend updated her phone when 2.3.5 when it first released I couldn't root her phone so I haven't done mine yet.
Is there a current working root for it?
THanks
The method in the General forum should work.

2.3.5 borked my wifi tethering, and I can't get it to function anymore. I've been looking for ways to go back to 2.2.
If you really like wifi tethering, I'd stay away from Gingerbread.
For months I have used Wireless Teather for root and had no issues. I just obtained a Acer A500 tablet and wanted to use it through the DroidX hotspot. Now every time I try to connect it sends me to the Verizon Hotspot signup page. Any idea? has Verizon caught on someway?
Thanks
There is a tether patch somewhere out there that you can flash that will fix this.
Motorola baked this guard into the Droid X's Gingerbread roms. If you were to use a 2nd-rom such as MIUI or CyanogenMod you wouldn't have this issue.
