SD card - Vibrant General

OK so I'm not sure if its currently the from or not (ics passion 13) but my phone will not allow me to place any information on my SD card.
When the phone boots up it says "preparing SD card" but after about 10 seconds it just disappears.
Within the settings under storage it recognizes the card is there and says 16gb free space. But when moving files into external SD it is not on my card. Almost like it just sees it as a folder on the internal memory.
Can I get some insight?

SdCard is in /emmc with all ICS Roms

Thank you. I knew about emmc but didn't think I needed root browser to actually access the SD card. Worked great.

[Q] SD Card/SD Card-EXT / Internal storage/"Media Area"

Hey everybody, the Atrix is my first Android device and I havent stopped playing with it since I got it. Im curious to what the difference is between the "Media Area" (manage applications>move to "media area") and the internal phone storage? from what i see, anything i move to the "media area" goes to the internal phone storage.
Also while using Root Explorer i saw 2 folders "/sdcard" and "/sdcard-ext" where ext is my external sd. i checked this after noticing that my ADW launcher backup files were NOT on my sd card. and with root explorer the files were in the "sdcard" folder, which is different from my "sdcard-ext" folder.
Can anyone please explain how or why the files that claim to be saved to my sdcard are actually saved to the other "sdcard" file setup by Android? and the difference between the media area and phone storage, why are applications set to "move to media area" rather than "move to sd card".
There is a storage location option under sd card settings. I haven't played with it yet though.

Your phone has an "internal sd card" due to the way the OS is configured. sdcard-ext, as you already know, is your external SD card. Your "internal card" is divided as follows: 2GB for Android OS and webtop software, 2GB dedicated for app installation, and 11GB for media storage. This 11GB partition is called /sdcard/ in addition to media storage.

So out of curiosity how do you mount the External SD card when you plug your phone into your computer? In my cappy it would just show both SD cards as different drives but it seems when I plug in my Atrix it only wants to show me my internal SD card.
It shows both for me, but sometimes it bugs out and doesn't properly mount the internal storage. A quick reboot fixes it for me.

Thanks for that explanation..but yeah I've never seen both when plugged via usb ...good to know tho. Is there a way to set apps or back ups to the external SD card ?

if you go to sd card & phone storage settings and change the windows media sync storage location to the external sd card both will show if you mount the phone as mass storage.
if you mount it as windows media sync whichever is shown will be the one that shows on the media sync window that comes up on the pc

according to a couple of users this partition of SD/memory and the external card, cannot be remedied for apps and such to backup or save on the external? Why would Motorola do this..

Switching SD cards

Hi
I recently got a SD card with a higher capacity than my current one and am looking to migrate whatever software android uses with my existing card. So far I've installed most on the phone memory but some like Aldiko reader have some components on the SD card and the program crashed when I switched cards.
How can I ID and migrate the essential files to the new card? Or will I have to reinstall all the apps with the new card? I don't have very many apps installed.
Thanks
Put original SD card in phone, plug phone into computer usind the USB, select disk drive. Then open up the mass storage device and select all, then copy to a temporary folder on your PC. Eject the mass storage device from PC
Now insert new SD into phone, go to menu, settings, SD and storage. From here unmount SD and then erase/format SD. When complete mount SD card. Then connection to PC and copy everything back to your new SD card.
Hope this helps

"Your phone does not have SD card"

"Insert SD card"
I get this error when I try to move apps to sd with apps2sd. Obviously, I have an sd card, which I use regularly.
How to fix? (wendyallisson where are you when I need you!)
Thanks,
Jason

Maybe your sd card needs formatting. Have had that problem before on another phone in the past.

Thats because u have Phone memory (1GB i guess) and the inbuilt SD Storage 11.6 gb or so
and u need to PUT in an External SD card so that u can move the apps

External Sd to default storage

Hi,
I was just wondering whether it would be possible to set the default "storage /sdcard" path to be the ext Sd instead of the sdcard (which is the phone's internal memory). It does detect the card but still saves most things automatically to the internal Sd card.. Any ideas? I have a 64gb SanDisk ultra card

There is already a thread on this issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257460
Yes, I know it is for the i9500, but the storage is essentially the same, so when the mod is released, it should work on both phones. On the last page in that thread there is a link to the original int2exsd thread and there are some posts suggesting the gs4 is nearing having a working mod. Patience is a virtue, the phone is still fairly new.

Move apps to sdcard

I am running MM (stock, unrooted, w/ unlocked BL) and have and SD card installed as portable storage (i had tried using it as internal a month or so ago and got completely screwed up for a few weeks, so am back to leaving it as portable).
In the past - before i formatted it as internal - i believe I had the option to move apps to the sdcard. I definitely had that option after formatting as internal. Now, I am not seeing that option at all. Do I need to do something special to allow moving of apps to the SD Card?
I am going to storage--> internal storage --> apps and scrolling down the list. When I select an app, i am expecting to see the option to move it to sd card. It's not there for any of the apps on the phone.
Don't think you can use move to SD on moto. Use something like link2sd or adaptive storage.

Thanks- so, you're saying that i probably am just remembering things incorrectly and likely the only time i previously moved the apps to SD on my XPE was when i had the SD card formatted as internal storage?

Not sure what you had but I tried that myself and got error that I can't move to SD on this phone. Forgot what the error was though.

Its a change from lollipop to marshmallow. Lollipop allows the moving of some apps to the SD card natively, marshmallow does not. Every app I've tried for app2sd doesn't work in marshmallow either.

I've had some SD Card problems as well, does that mean Migrate Data only moves personal non-app files to the other storage?
Using AppMgrIII to move apps to SD card
Running MM stock, not rooted. Using AppMgrIII and formatting the SD card as internal (really key here), I have moved many apps to the SD card. AppMgrIII tells you which can be moved, and then you go to the app, click on storage and move the app to the SD card. Some work on the first try, and some take two tries for some reason. I must have about 40 apps on my SD card. The only one that didn't work after moving was the Amazon Shopping app. It worked, but took forever to come up. Moved it back to internal and it's fine.

While this is a good work around, this breaks basic functionality of the SD card by itself. When you format it as internal, you cannot put it in a card reader and use it in your pc, which for me, is essential, especially when copying 20+ gigs at a time (128GB card). Also, if rooted and custom recovery, recovery will not read the card either.
