crazy skin and screen protector - Acer Iconia A500

check this out!!!
http://www.ghost-armor.com/whatIsIt/carbonFiber/
just got this on my tab and im in love.
carbon fiber skin for every square inch of your device and a top notch screen protector, makes your device immune to scratches.
although you can order this straight from the website and install it yourself, i suggest going to a mall location because they use a wet install similar to invisashield to not the same and then they put your device into a vacume sealed box to suck out any bubbles or imperfections, and cure the liquid they use to install.
the result, a sexy protected tablet

Looks good. Wish i would have gotten one on my infuse. Stupid case and dust scuffed the bezel up. Also no kiosks in my state lame cuz it sounds like they do a good job installing

Ghost armor is incredible. I've been using their products for a couple years now and I couldn't be more pleased. I have the full body clear kit on my A500, but I wanted the CF kit. Sadly, the kiosk I went to did not stock it. I needed the protection though and I'm happy I got it.
Ghost armor blows invisashield out of the water. Never again will I buy and invisashield product.

same here... order the kit to your house then take that to kiosk for them to install

Is there an added installation cost
It seems the price is considerably less if ordered online however I would want them to install it. I live on Ontario and there is a kiosk in a mall not far but they want $70 for a full install. Where you charged extra $ for the install.
Thanks Dave

I would have, but I was only in town for a couple more days. I didn't have time to wait. You can't go wrong with ghost armor though
Install + materials for 2 full body armors cost me under $100 USD for my tablets (my wife has an A500 as well).

AWWWWWWW YEAH
I love carbon fibre...
Ordered.

Man, the matte finish looks amazing. I'll need to stop by the kiosk in the mall down the street from me to check them out

My radioshack had no type of accessories

So i walked in radio shack soon they open up (6am) i was pre-order #1 and they was more people walked in behind me.
I got the phone. and i asked them about the accessories for the phone. and they only had some lame screen protectors, nothing as other people was promising far as HDMI cables, gloves, hard cases, etc..
So i just took the lame screen protectors that fit any phone 4inchs and a lil cheap car charger.
Something is better then nothing i guess..
What kinda accessories you had at your local store?
not suprised
Same thing for me. Nothing at my RS. They said like 10 days for hdmi cables another might get cases then. They were not sure.
Would of had thought HTC or Sprint would had shipped cases and etc with the evo. to be sold with the $20 giftcard
same no hdmi cables and limited stock of acc. so i got the horizontal case and screen protector
Just got mines at a Sprint Store they had EVERYTHING! I got my phone and the Bodyglove case. The Bodyglove case is REAL nice!

i got the body-glove case as well. seems a little mis-fitted to the Evo, but it is an all-phone case, not specifically evo.
i had the same experience at my Radio shack. they had the body glove case, and just a couple of screen protectors. LAME.
Sprint store had ALL accessories and if you buy 2, you get 20% off. I bought a silicone and Screen protectors. $25 and change. I was gonna get the Body Glove but it was a little TOO protecting. I'll probably go naked soon, it's almost too nice to keep in a case.
I bought my EVO at a Radioshack though and like the OP, they had NO accessories, just generic.

Let me see some pictuessssssssss!!!!
my RS only had invisible shield screen protectors. so i got that with the 20 dollar gift card, since it was only 15 bux, i used the rest on AA batteries. haha lame. they didnt even have anything else i could use the left over balance on for something i could use on the phone. no hdmi, cases, nothin.
fyi, the invisible shield for the evo is garbage. it looks like crap and is cut too long. i prefer the oem screen protectors that came with the tp2.
Here are some pics I took from my Blackberry 9700
Crap at my RS too.. mirroed screen protect (looks like garbage on the EVO but it will work til I get something better) and an audio patch cable... though unless I'm understanding it wrong... the phone should have been $199 then the accessories - $20 but when they rang everything up.. total was $194 with tax
Should've known that already.
It was announced that RS wouldn't have any true accessories for the Evo until later in the month. In the meantime, there are iGo chargers, WriteRight Screenies (which work beautifully, a million times better than the mirrored), horizontal cases... True, that's about it, but when you get $20 off there isn't really room to complain.
Disappointing, yes... but nothing new

This is the EXACT same thing that I did (LOL). A Zagg screenie (which I now think is awful) and AA batteries.
I'm soooo glad I pre-ordered @ RS. I was the first to get a phone and was in and out in 10 minutes.
I went to the Sprint store by my house to get the BodyGlove case and the line was 15 people deep outside. Inside it was a madhouse! Of course I pulled out my new, already rooted EVO in front of everybody in line (I mean, I had to make sure that the case would fit, you know). ;-)

The only thing my RS had also was the Zagg screen protectors. Nothing else. They offered generic cases, but none custom-built for the Evo. They said it'd take about a week before any Evo accessories actually came in. Sad.

Unbox my Xoom: 1 thing really pissed me off

Unboxed my Xoom today. I can't say I don't like it, but there is one thing that really pissed me off. I paid $800 for it, and I knew very well that the price will soon drop but I still bought it. I thought I would be treated with great surprises. But the moment I opened the box, I found that there's NOTHING wrapping my Xoom. Yes, there's a plastic sheet protecting the screen, but it's covered with fingerprints (and dusts.) I am not even asking for a fancy velvet bag. Just put that damn thing inside a plastic bag, please. It costs Motorola, may be 2 cents?
Oh, and the box's cover wasn't even taped (and it's very loose.) Motorola has a lot to learn when it comes to packaging.
Anyway, this tablet is still by far the best tablet experience one would get for the Android platform.
Agreed.
Fancy light table BTW.
Mine was practically hanging out of the box when I got it.

ahahahh
I was thinking the same
Motorola should've taken down notes from Apple. Apple does pay a great deal of attention to packaging. I love how Apple packages products.
I agree. The day the Xoom launched, I was the first to come in without pre-sale receipt along with another dude who has already preordered online with his receipt, I was exciting but until I saw the Xoom... my face actually dropped when I saw a Verizon representative (inside Best Buy) bringing the Xoom out and it wasn't sealed. I like opening sealed things. What the heck.
I'm with ya.
When I bought my $30,000 car, it didn't have a cover either, pissed me off.
(sorry, couldn't help it, a few goodies in the box always adds to the experience)
I agree with the not taping the box closed, but I take it you've never bought an apple product? They are continually praised for thier packaging which is almost exactly like the Xoom was packaged.
I'm fine with it as the entire thing was wrapped in plastic already if you didn't notice.
Sounds a bit dodgey to me,usually most new mobile phones and tablets have a seal on the box,and on the seal are the words DO NOT ACCEPT IF SEAL IS BROKEN. How do you know someone's not been having a quick play with it and then done a factory reset.

Sounds like you got someone's sloppy seconds. Either that or the model that the entire sales force for that store was trained on.
Yeah mine nearly fell out of the box as well, but it had protective shipping tape around the entire thing.

Man the HTC Evo package was ****ty. Minimalist, yes, but it looked like a tuppaware box (however you spell it).
I was surprised the Xoom boxes weren't even taped either. And since they had to look at the number on the back of the Xoom Best Buy totally killed the unboxing experience for me.
My gf thought I was a total nerd for thinking about doing an unboxing video, but after the unboxing cherry was popped, there was a TINY bit less of excitement.

You know, I had them ready "prepared" to do some serious cutting to get my Xoom out, but what can I say. I am surprise by the LACK OF THINGS to be unwrapped. The tools were there, instead of wasting all my preparation works, I just put them to use

I've asked around, from what I can tell, this is only partially true. What I know so far is that the Xoom from Costco were all wrapped in plastic (the whole box with Motorola's sticker on the plastic wrap), but those from Best Buy were not. I also checked with someone who work in Best Buy and he told me that they didn't take the wrap out. The Xoom arrived unwrapped.

I know someone who bought one from a BestBuy and there's a picture of a sales clerk in the gallery when he logged into his Xoom.
Consider how "beta-like" Honeycomb is still. I wonder all these unsealed packaging + fingerprints-all-over are results of some last minute firmware upgrade?
Seeing how the Xoom was launched during CES with hardware ready, but only had video of the UI looping without the real software. I believe most Xoom that are currently selling were manufactured around that time. Just sat there waiting for Google to provide the latest firmwares...

New silicone case for iconia a500

So I just received my silicone case for my a500. I actually like it way more then the first case which was the official acer made case. It doesn't have the stand capabilities as most others but its simple easy to get on and off and light. It also provides access to all ports but the sd card port. Bought it on amazon.com. through a dealer called sfplanet.com. I don't believe they have it on their main site but its on amazon for 5.99. Check it out if your looking for one.

Darn out of stock
I bought one. It's very cheap right now. It does fit pretty loosley and the material is thin. I don't think it'll provide much protection. I wish more people made silicone cases for the a500 because the leather folio type cases are not my type of thing and I don't want to carry around a bag.
I bought this cover myself. Fits great. The TPU material is awesome. I have a TPU case just like this for Nexus S. One time I went to the gas station and I was talking to someone and left my phone on the hood of my gar. I drove 2 miles to work got into the office and realized OMG I left the phone on my hood. I ran to my car and lo and behold, It was in the exact same place I left it on the hood. That material is super sticky and a phone saver
Hopefully this one works out for me. I hope to get it in the next few days.

I wanted clear, but couldn't find a US seller. Now that I've said that, someone else will probably post a link.
Got the new case on Saturday. Fits great. Transluscent, so the Acer logo is seen through it. Cutouts in all the right spots, except the SD card cover of course. Good grip. Great fit around the bezel, doesn't look "stretched" like a couple others I've seen.

gf dropped my phone, screen cracked.....

:crying:So my girlfriend managed to drop my beautiful white s3 and now i wanna drop her ass. somehow she managed to break it the same day i rooted it and started to truly enjoy it.
Screen cracked at the top corner now theres a spider crack all over the top of the screen with a couple of cracks that run down to the middle phone still works, but the crack is killing me on the inside hehe. Now funny part is i bought the defender for it the day i bought it cause i knew it was too weak to handle a hard drop, and i've been checking the mail for it for 2 weeks now. then she comes and does that just the day before it arrived. After crying inside a while and just wanting to punch someone i managed to start looking at options.
checked online and the parts cost $240-$290, bell and best buy can fix it by it'll cost at least $325. I also bought the best buy protection plan (12.99/month). am thinking I should be able to find some cheap non-samsung parts for much cheaper than that, replace the screen and give it to best buy for an exchange as long as something is wrong with it (not sure wt though )

Only thing I could think of is they might do it different over there in Canada. I think that is where the OP is from.
Just posted about this in the other cracked screen thread...
"Missed my damn pocket on Saturday night, and dropped mine on the garage floor. Got a small crack about as wide a finger nail from the right side of the ear piece curving up to the edge. Which is strange, cause the only other mark on the phone is a small scuff at the bottom of the back cover. But, I have BB insurance, so its in being fixed with no deductible! I've dropped my epic a few times in the last year, and not scratch on the screen. Makes me wonder what they changed in the formula from og gorilla glass to gorilla glass 2.
As much as I don't want to add all the bulk to it, the Otterbox Defender, or Trident Kraken may be in its future...

not sure how you guys manage your finances, but if there is a fee, shouldn't see be paying for it?
If I dropped my girl's laptop, phone, crashed her car (or w/e) and we weren't pretty much married, I would cover it to get whatever it is fixed.
I dropped my friend's motorcycle helmet while handing it to him several years ago. he didn't have a good grip and as I passed it, it slipped into his hand from mine and fell to the concrete floor. it was still intact, but had nice bruising from the concrete. I apologized and got him a new one within a week...

What girlfriend?
The PEP from Best Buy in Canada is different than the one in the US. It does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, basically they call it "stupidity". I'm not calling it that, that's how they word it. PEP from Best Buy only extends the manufacturer's warranty. So instead of getting refurbs, you get brand new replacements. And you can pick a different phone if you want. I posted in another thread indicating that no carrier or 3rd party store in Canada offers insurance anymore. At least not that I'm aware of. It sucks because Best Buy charges $12.99 + taxes per month for the PEP. I have 2 PEP's from Best Buy. On one of my PEP's, I already got 3 brand new replacement phones. On my
2nd one I got one brand new replacement in which I chose a different model.
So both already paid itself.

Wow I can't imagine trying to sell that to customers. It's already hard enough trying to get people to get the 9.99 plan that replaces the phone with no deductible. Customers say "if I break the phone I'll buy a new one for 200, not realizing the phone is $650.

I ride my bike with my Nexus 4 strapped on my arm and last week I fell off my bike and the phone flew off my hands because I was texting and riding my bike. My phone has the eBay kickstand rubber and plastic case (I like that it covers the USB and headphone ports) and XOskins rear and front screen protector and my phone survived the fall and tumbling on concrete, only minor tearing of an edge of the screen protector and very minor scuff on the corner of the case. Overall my phone feels pretty safe.

An amazon.com seller had the ballistic case for about $21usd + shipping (it shipped internationally for about $12 If I recall correctly, but now the price is up to about $27 + shipping) The seller that ships internationally was "One Stop Cell Shop". The price from this seller has been fluctuating between about $21 and $27 so you could wait to see if it decreases.
In the mean time.. I have just purchased the ballistic case from www.ioffer.com for about $27 + free international shipping. The seller has 21000 trades and 99% positive feedback. I know that ioffer sells fakes but also has some authentic products. I hope the case is authentic . It says shipping will take 5-10 days, so I will let you all know when (and if ) I receive it. I paid with paypal so I can make a dispute claim if it's not what I ordered.
So.. there are options out there just be careful when ordering and don't blame me if you order it from ioffer and it's fake... I will let you know in a week or 2 when I get it. :victory:
MyBat Tuff Hybrid Case
The MyBat Tuff Hybrid Case is great. I've mentioned this on other threads that I've dropped it from 4.5 feet right on the corner ... no damage.
I've dropped it multiple times since then. The colored version is $8.95 on ebay, the "Beer" version is $9.00. I currently have the black version, the beer version is on it's way.

Beer Version
Thanks people,very helpful info
Beer Goggles!
I put my "Beer Version" of the MyBat case on my N4 and it looked great, but ...
When I made a phone call my screen when black and wouldn't come back. A quick check on google and I found that the proximity sensor was partially blocked by the new case. I expanded the opening with my box knife and all is well.
If i can't find the Ballistic case for a good price,i'm definitely getting this one, with the beer print
I got the Ballistic through the Cell guru for around $30 shipped to Australia.
Other than the Otterbox which isn't available for the Nexus, this is the only case I would trust to protect the phone from a drop.

i have orderer a mybat tuff in black and also the ballistic one... i will compare both and make a review between both of them... they seem to be the best decisions in case of protection...
Any two layered case with a lip will offer good drop protection.
I don't know what case offers the most protection, but the Diztronic model works amazing! Today I was walking out of a store with my hands full not paying attention and all of a sudden I see my phone, falling through the air on its way to the pavement. The distance was about 5ft high. It landed on the top corner (camera side) and the phone is completely intact. The case had a little scuff/dirt mark that just rubbed away. I can't tell you how happy I am to have put this on. I dropped my Nexus S once case-less and the hassle with getting it repaired and such, what a task. To think of all the trouble I saved myself, wow. So very grateful. Much respect to Diztronic.
2 drops so far above waist level with my ringke fusion and not 1 scratch
