Sideloading books to google books? - Kindle Fire General

does anyone know if it's possible to put my books (epub, pdf, etc) in the directory for the books in google books? I really like the google books application, but i already own the books, so if anyone knows of any way to do this, it would be a huge help. And I'm not looking for an answer like "Why don't you just use Aldiko?" that's not my question. Please lemme know if you know anything. thank you.

Use a program called Calibre. It lets you use your own ebooks and it will insert them in the book shelf with the other books.

Ebooks
Most of my ebooks are pdf. And yes you can sideload them to your Kindle Fire. Put them into the Documents folder, as if you put them into the Books folder the Kindle Fire will not know where to find them.
Your can read them with the Kindle Reader, which comes with your Kindle Fire, or with Adobe Reader which you can download from the Kindle Store, or from Adobe.

I am at a loss as to what you would use the program "Calibre" for in a Kindle Fire. I have been all over the Calibre Website and I can find the program for Windows, OSx, Linux and even a Portable Device, but nothing for the Kindle Fire, or even the Android Operating System.
Pardon?

you can prepare your books with calibre to work with the original reader:

Using Calible gives you ability to convert your books to proper format (i.eg .mobi for amazon app), so you can sideload your books to programs.
AFAIK you can't sideload your books to google books, but you can export from google books to other programs.

Calibre is a PC program that allows you to convert, tag, etc. your ebook collection in bulk to a format that is more easy on your KF (Or any other ebook reader) I like to use it to convert my books to .mobi and have it add the ASIN from amazon. This way whispersync works on non Amazon books and I can read a book on my phone when I'm out and then pick it up where I left off on my KF when I'm home.
There is no Android client as it's not a reader, it's just a bulk management program.

Working with Kindle

Just getting the Vibrant from a G1 I noticed that Amazon's Kindle comes loaded on the device. If I had some ebooks installed is there a way to load these PDF files or do you recommend another alternative to using viewing ebooks?
i have not tried using pdfs with the kindle reader but the books are stored in /sdcard/kindle/ you could try sticking it there and see if it works
Put it in the dir /sdcard/kindle/ doesnt seem to be loading. Seems like it only registers pdfs/books that you have purchased from Amazon store?
Any other recommendations for a pdf viewer?
Downloaded the RFS and id love to read on the go ;p
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I dont use pdfs too often so I'm not the best to answer, but I know there is an official Adobe Reader in the market
I use Aldiko for the books I can't read in kindle.
The official Adobe Reader app is a really good PDF reader in my opinion and it's free.

Same thing with Borders' eReader app. They don't allow you to read epubs or pdfs that you've copied to the phone/sd card manually. They only access your online amazon/borders library.
Aldiko is a good free epub reader.

[Q] eReader problems.....

Has anyone had any problems with their ereaders..??......I have tried multiple ereader apps such as Aldiko, Kindle, etc.......none will read any of the books I have put on the micro-sd.......I even tried converting from pdf to epub......I must be doing something wrong.......any ideas..??.......I would love to have the ereader from the Pandigital Novel, but I can't figure out how to move it over.......
What were the formats you tried?...PDF typically works fine...there are several PDF readers available...Each of these reader apps support certain formats...maybe you did not match them correctly ( meaning reader app with ebook format)...if you need a program for conversion on PC try Calibre ( freeware) ...very good ...supports magazine subscription and much more...an dthen you can move ebook in corrcet format back to Elocity ( sd card or usb)

I have both the Nook and Kindle e-readers installed from the Market and working just fine, but I have downloaded my books from their stores, not sideloaded via SD.

Even better with calibre you can run the built in web server and just download the books you want with the browser.
Personally I use FBReader for actually reading the books.

[GUIDE] Fixing eBooks showing up in Docs instead of Books (fixing the meta tag):

This is for the kindle noobs who are having trouble putting books on there kindle or having the books show up in docs instead of books...
Enjoy
http://blackr0se76.livejournal.com/16376.html
How do I fix PDF books that show up in Doc
Convert them with calibre to mobi and make there tagged with [EBOK] then transfer to kindle with calibre and they should go from docs to books
just as it says above
I've tried this and several other methods and was never able to get ebooks to show up in the stock Kindle reader.
Works for me. Nice tutorial with pictures. I originally saw a thread in the developer section on how to do this... tho lacking pics.
It sucks that one has to convert a mobi to a mobi just to change meta data... bonus points to some one who finds a quicker way to just edit meta data.

Yeah it is annoying, took practically a whole day just to convert around 200 books to that ebok crap.

[Q] Where do I put my ebooks (personal library) for Kindle?

I just got my Nexus 7 and can't figure out where I put my mobi format ebooks so Kindle will recognize them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Same with the Nook app
Copy them to the kindle folder on your nexus 7 from your PC
The full directory for Kindle is below mate, if you haven't found it yet:
/sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.kindle/files
Don't use any folders, or they don't show up. Just put the .mobi file in there.
Not too sure where to put the nook files as I don't use the app
Can I suggest using a different e-reader app? The kindle app is sort of a joke. Limited format (.mobi) and slow. Try aldiko (free) or mantano (a few bucks, but totally worth it).
Thanks
Thank you all for the response. At first my Nexus didnt show the Nook and Kindle directories but after a reboot there they are.
Again Thanks
Look into Calibre (free application for managing books) and Calibre Library (android app) if you haven't. Lets you connect wirelessly to your library of books on a PC and download them straight to the Kindle on your device. I am using this approach for my N7 and finding I like it better than what I do with my Kindle Touch (load everything via USB and Calibre)

[Q] How to load personal books, magazines.

Hello,
I am new to the Android world, and I recently purchased a N7 after selling my Kindle Fire (1st gen). The nice thing about the Kindle Fire was that I could transfer my PDF files to the Kindle Fire via USB and the files would show up under the "Docs" app and I would be able to read my personal files.
Here is what I have tried so far.
PDF file size is 88MB
Amazon Kindle app - Doesn't work because I can only transfer 50MB max through "Send to Kindle"
Adobe Reader - This seemed to work the best, but I don't like I have to to scroll down, I would prefer to scroll left/right like I was able to on my Kindle Fire.
Zinio - No idea how I can load my own files into this app, even after creating an account.
Is there a way I can load my PDF into Google Magazine or Google Books through sideloading or rooting?
Is there an free or trial app that would allow me to load my PDF magazines or books and have it look nice and clean as the Google Books/Magazine app does so I can see the cover art and such?
Thanks!
Use Google Drive
Download your pdf to N7 using Google Drive. Get a File explorer (HD File Manager) and just click on the pdf file. It will give you option to open with different apps. Kindle would be one of them.
That worked out great! Thank you!!
What I also ended up doing instead of selecting to open with Amazon Kindle app, I used HD File Manager to copy my PDF to the actual Amazon Kindle app directory and pasted, this way I can directly access the PDF by going into the Amazon Kindle app.
