Battery fix for ics - Nexus S General

Any news on the battery fix?? Because 4.0.3 is terrible. **

let the battery fully discharge and then charge it. I was having a similar situation but I found out that the battery charge wasn't displaying correctly. A complete discharge recharge cycle improve the situation, although it still doesn't so charge up to 100%, stays at 93/94%.

I tried this method but it doesn't bring any improvements. Is there anything else I can do to fix this battery issues.
Thanks.

Did you do a full wipe after you updated to 4.0.3? I'm seeing about the same battery usage after the update (maybe even longer battery life). There are some apps that are not very compatible with ICS that could be causing problems as well.

Yes, I did a full wipe using the flashable ROM-Wiper and Dalvik-Wiper.
As for apps, I don't have many apps. I just use this phone for messaging, RSS reading, and some little browsing.

Why don't you do a manual wipe. That might be better. Also mess around with some CPU and governor settings (which includes flashing a new kernel and ROM).

Extreme Battery Drain

Hi everybody,
I've read all the threads on the battery problems, but I'm experiencing something different.
My phone is rooted but on stock rom. The last two days, my phone charges to 100% and when I unplug it, it stays there, but then throughout the morning, it drops drastically. yesterday I unplugged it at 5am, by 8:30 I was at 73%. I normally make it a full day 5am-10 at night, the lat couple days I'm lucky to make it to 4pm...
Any ideas or suggestions???

Download and install OSMonitor and see if the init process is continuously using 100% CPU. I've experienced this bug myself.
The current fix is to enable USB Debugging.

I just downloaded OS monitor, my cpu was at 39%. I am already at 82% battery and have barely done anything on the phone

Thanks for that, it has been bugging the hell out of me why the CPU has been sat at 100% and the battery has been less than average.
USB Debugging now enabled and the CPU is scaling properly again.
I have 50 apps installed currently

Try wiping battery stats, then let the battery drain to 0% from 100%. Then charge the phone while it's off to 100% and it should be good to go .

No problem. It's a very odd bug and I'm hoping 2.3.3 fixes it.. As I notice another bug is introduced when USB Debugging is on .
So yesterday my battery was performing horribly. It died all the way, I then charged it from 0% to 100%. Usually it drops down to 97% right away, but it stayed at 100 , but once again dropped pretty quick. Its 9:30am, I took it off the charger at 5:00am and I'm already at 77% , with barely any use... Is this just me, or if this the norm.

Having applied the 2.3.3 update last night, I turned USB debugging off just to see if the /init process problem was fixed.
I'm happy to report that so far all is well, the CPU is scaling nicely and sitting nice and low when idling.

Reporting the same thing here, haven't noticed the bug reappear. Also loving the nice performance boost as well (1800 Quadrant score on stock 2.3.3!).
But, the colour change not so much .
As I use a colour calibrated monitor on my pc (for photo editing) I'm actually loving the new neutral white balance. I can understand why some peo people are finding it a bit muted though.

Two batteries in four hours? Sounds like you're having deeper issues than swapping kernels.

Ok, well that battery drain thing is NOT how you calibrate your battery and is highly recommended by HTC to NOT do that.
HEre is how HTC recommends you recalibrate your battery, and I can tell you, I did this and it works better than
expected:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990&highlight=battery+life
"To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well."
BTW, I'm loving the savagedZen kernel in my signature

Hi,
I tried this and it is strange. No matter what I do after I fully charge my batter it goes down immediately to about 95. I am getting ok battery life. I just installed the latest cfs Savage gen with this method. I just cannot get battery to stay at 100 percent . It might not be a big deal but just wondering if there is something I can do. I am going to let it drain all the way and charge to full and see.
Thanks,

Charging my phone

Whenever I leave my phone charged overnight, I wake up to around 70% charged. It's as though once it reaches 100%, it stops "charging" and it starts using the battery's energy, rather than the AC. Any help?

What kernel/rom are you running. The only suspect is that your kernel does not have "trickle charge" in the new kgb kernel you have to enable this with the app.

Yeah its pretty simple man, find droidstyle's guide for roms and mine for kernels. That'll give you the info you need.

Is there any Custom ROM in particular that you would recommend?
go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070 and follow step 2, then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459905 readthrough the first part on TW kernels, choose one of the 3 custom kernels (not the stock one), best advice is to read the op of each one and find one you think will work for you. they are all three well written kernels. one is already oc'd to 1200, which means no need for voltage control if you plan to oc your phone. most phones are stable at 1200 but thats just from doing alot of messing around and odining. the second post is the instructions for flashing the kernel. the first post just explains all of them to the best i could w/o kanging any information from the op. i just ran what i knew off memory. links to each kernel's op are at the bottom of post 1. i did links to the op's instead of posting dropbox files due to the fact that I want people to make sure they know what features each kernel has before they download it.
I would give battery calibrator app a try. It could be that when you flashed your ROM, the battery stats got jacked up

They are essentially the same thing. Battery Calibration is wiping the battery stats and running the phone dead than fully recharging.
I have been having a very similar issue. A buddy of mine (captivate) and I found that the phone wont charge past 98% on CyanogenMod with the Glitch kernel. I set the phone to not lock and keep the screen on while charging and the problem went away. The phone also would not stay on A/C power after reaching 98%. This issue was fixed too.
I think its an inherent problem with the batteries on the phones, since the issue occurs on many different roms/kernels/phones.
whether it's caused by the phone, ROM, or kennel, battery calibrator is a simple app that is at least worth a try in my opinion

it seems like, that my poor battery was caused by layer8. Also noticed that you have to not flash anything battery related (kernel, rom) because this seems to reset stats. I'll will stop flashing nightly and Kernel nightly and see were I will land with my N4.

I flashed back to a stock. I didn't wipe anything afterwards. Is that considered dirty?
dirty flashing has nothing to do with it. i only dirty flash, even dirty flashed from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2, yet i have no battery issues, or battery stats issues.

theres always a possibility of a defective battery, but dirty flashing doesnt have anything to do with it.
AW: [Q] Who is affected of bad battery capacity?
Yes that it's the question! Do I have the capacity of the battery regarding to its physical properties or do I have the capacity battery monitor widget is detecting?
The results of battery monitor widget are directly related to the knowledge of Android over the battery. So I guess you get the capacity which battery monitor widget is telling you.

Odd, mine seems to be a lot better battery wise since 4.3... You might want to use BetterBatteryStats to pinpoint the cause (maybe some wakelocks etc.)
Flash a custom kernel.
Yes, me too, battery seems worse than in 4.2.2. Or is it just because that I use it more now i.e. to restore apps etc?

Do you guys have this drain problem in IDLE mode? because I do..
rough estimate, it drains like 7 to 8% in one hour when my device is in SLEEP mode..
But to all this, what apps or services seems to be draining the battery?

I don't know what your talk in about, I'm getting better battery life than I ever did before. I'm UV by 25 running faux kernel (u21), and clean ROM. I just removed all the gapps I don't use, and don't run anything that needs background syncing. Did you guys do clean installs(full flash via fastboot)?
I also turned off daydream which I am suspicious of, yet I have no proof that it does anything

Thats the problem, I hard factory resetted several times and leave it alone with no new apps
installed before.. disabled NFC, my mobile connection.. and still it drains like a leaky hose in idle mode..
some friendly ppl here suggested installing greenify and betterbatterystats and stuff..
but it doesnt really help me pinpoint whats doing the draining.. maybe because I am not sure what I am looking at..
end result, i even flashed (nearly bricked my nexus on several occasions too) and still the drain is there..
I thought my battery is dying or something.. but my nexus is barely 6 months old.. and battery status shows it as GOOD..
so yea, I am stumped..
Yeap.
I am having the same problem with the battery, the battery is spent very quickly, I have less applications installed and lately I have not used the phone to see if it was me and nothing. It may be because manually install the OTA?
Does the rule of waiting a few days/recharge cycles to get a true sense of the battery not apply to Nexus devices like it does to Samsung devices?

The initial battery drain after flashing can be attributed to apps conducting their first sync and the kernel "settling." This only takes a matter of hours at best. After that, one can get a fairly accurate idea of how their battery is being tasked.
