As said in my other thread, we shall do the discussion of this ROM here so we don't bother the devs anymore!
What do you think of this ROM? I think it's really awesome.
It runs well for my purposes, though it's guaranteed to reboot on my phone when using Navigation which is unfortunate.
Great rom, good for daily usage. Even the Illico mobile app is working flawless for Canadian Videotron carrier.

Samauz states this ROM as alpha, but it feels more than that because of its incredible stability and of course usability
I moved to this one after trying out the Evervolv one since that one kept SoD'ing.
So far it's running really great.
I have used Samuaz's CM9 build for a long time now and I haven't ever experienced the screen of death bug. Not once.
mad props
Been using this Rom for a while now and I really have to admit that it does not feel like an alpha at all. But it's far away from being a final or RC.
But nonetheless it's good enough to work as a daily driver. Almost everything is working fine and it's quite smooth. Especially the new ia2sd is awesome.
But it has its downsides. I have a lot of random fc's and apps behaving strange. It may not be a Samuaz specific problem but an ICS problem. But it starts bugging me as hell.
And some features I really like at CM7 are not implemented or fully working yet. Most of them are really small things like no battery percentage in the notification bar (Battery Widget works as a workaround). But they add up.
Once I overcame the "wow-ics-on-n1-smooth-and-awesome"-feeling I started thinking about switching back to CM7. I just miss the stability of CM7 and the incredible smoothness. Don't get me wrong. This Rom is neither unstable nor stuttering (I actually get my highest quadrant scores so far with Medroid CM9) it just didn't reach the level of CM7 yet.
But I'm sure it will. A new kernel which makes full HWA possible seems to be on its way and with every version the rom is getting better.

Let's say we get full hwa tomorrow or sometime near tomorrow, I still feel it will take a long time to really optimize it for every aspect of our N1's. I mean, in ICS now, we need to prioritize making things works before optimizing them. Know what I'm saying?
I switched back to CM7 today for a brief moment but I quickly got bored of it. Will try later today though. It feels great not having to switch hboot as CM7 (at least Samuaz's build) plays nicely with it
I'm not concerned about the extra system space or so because with the 1gb ext4 partition, there's nothing to complain about ^^
Awesome rom... fast and stable... trebuchet launcher bis easy but apex launcher is better band faster... try TO install on System/appari tor better experience

SIP and T-Mobile Web2Go issues
I have had just a couple of issues.
One is that when I upgraded from CM7, I guess something flagged in my T-Mobile account. I have the $10/month data plan ("Phone First Web" aka Web2Go). While everything was peachy before I upgraded, now I can not get the data connection to work. Set up the same settings APN-wise as in CM7 and it just tells me the plan doesn't work with my phone
I tried flashing back to CM7 to no avail. So it must be a flag in my account or something.
The other problem that I had is that my SIP setup doesn't work anymore. I don't know if this is a problem with ICS, the ROM, or something in my SIP setup (pbxes.org/IPKALL/GVoice). I do know, that before upgrading to this ROM, it all worked fine. Again, I tried flashing back to CM7 and it didn't fix it. So I don't know if it is something about upgrading to ICS or what...
Update:
My SIP stuff started working again. So, I guess it was an issue with my setup.
I was also doing some reading and saw that apparently a lot of people are having the Web2Go thing crap out with their Nexus One. It seems that T-Mo finally caught on and is actively preventing N1s from using the Web2Go plan. Good news is that there is another $10/month plan available. Bad news is that it is only 200MB/month. For me, that's fine, since I use WiFi most of the time anyway. The unlimited option is $25/month (still cheaper than the Android plan, I believe).
As far as the ROM goes in general, I love the look and feel. The new recent applications is great as is the new browser interface.

Been trying this room since a long time ago. Awesome, except some random reboots and fcs. Switched to MeDroid cm7 when I wanted to stabil and smooth rom, and got my best quadrant there: above 2400. Switched back to this room when I wanted to feel new features of ICS. Overall, quite happy with this rom.

Awesome rom, I use it since at least a month and it's great.
I just have an issue in these days about the new Cyanogen Music app, it drains my battery a lot.
Anyone know a tip to replace it with the original one? I tried to remove it with Titanium backup and install an apk of the original Music that I found on web but it FC.
I can't report the drain/ask in the developer too cause of my low post-counter.

Okay I did some research on the Rom. Everyone raves about the speed and how battery last longer then the stock or cm6 roms. It looks very iphony to me. How smooth is the Rom? How is it working out for you miui users. Is it worth the time? I am very satisfied with cm6. Haven't thought of switching but I want to give it a try. Please let me know.
try out the rom yourself, its not going to kill you
I gave it a go. It is very iphone-ish, but not so much that it bothered me or was distasteful. I saw no increase in battery life or speed, even though I'm sure tests might prove it, nothing that makes a noticeable difference in day to day usage. I eventually went back to enoms rom with wildmonks kernal.

miui
well, I didnt wanna try it out either because I really dont like the iphone interface, but turns out that I did try it and I love it!
I didnt use the stock launcher though, thats what made it iphone like.
Im using launcher pro and adw so I get pretty much all the benefits of the rom. It is a very fast rom. probably as fast as all the other really. but for some reason, its really smooth. its a completely new version of android I would say.
give it a try with another launcher. I think you might like it. also, try out wildmonks kernels. they seem pretty fast and stable for me
Which Rom do you recommend? Rodriguez or dj's? Wildmonks kernel is the best. Not a big fan of iPhone but will use launcher pro or adw launcher.
Im using rodriguez. It seems to be the easiest one file flash type of rom.
Rodriguez is what I used. Was very nice and launcher pro worked great with it. It also has some nice features with it. I might give it another go myself, but with gingerbread around the corner, I dunno. Plus it's just hard to give up enoms.

im using it with adw launcher and i love it. there isnt really any increase in performance that ive noticed but i love how you can go straight to sms app from the lock screen.
Rod's MIUI rom's rock...happy flashing!
And read his thread posts for details & info
I've been using Rodriguez MIUI roms for a while now. Every once in a while I flash something else including a few Sense ones and CM6.1 but the MIUI roms simply dust them in speed and responsiveness.
I don't really like the icons so much but I can easily overlook them with the huge increase in speed, stability over CM and the latest (1.8.1) with Wildmonks kernel gives me better battery life than I have EVER had.
I really like MIUI for a couple of reasons. The ability to create folders on the home screen makes finding my apps faster and more organized, as I like to load down my phone with more apps than I ever would really use. I also really like what they've done with the dialer and in-call menu, as it gives you bigger buttons and indicators for Bluetooth connectivity and such. I've lost track of how many times I've forgotten to turn on Bluetooth prior to making a call, and ROMs based on the stock Froyo only have the small icon on the status bar to let you know whether Bluetooth is connected, so I often ended up sitting there listening to silence for a few seconds before realizing the problem. Even answering a call is somewhat easier, as you swipe down instead of sideways, and that's especially useful for the times when I'm asleep and get awoken by a call.
Then there's always the other assorted UI improvements that aren't particularly necessary, but still cool nonetheless. There's a cool visualizer that plays along with your music on the lock screen, in addition to controls on the lock screen for your music. The stock wallpapers are really nice too, and after using CyanogenMod I started getting tired of seeing the color cyan. The top bar is transparent too, so it will always look nice with whatever wallpaper you choose. Despite taking some cues from Apple's iOS UI, I actually think MIUI does it better.
The look of the icons is my only gripe with MIUI, but that can be changed with themes of course. Speed wise, I haven't noticed a whole lot of improvement, and I think that's because I don't often have many apps all running at once. What really matters to me is usability, and in that department MIUI shines, and hopefully will only get better.
I use the miui rom as well with Launcher Pro. The Battery life rocks. thats my main reason I use it.

it is not hard hard to make a nadroid backup, flash a rom and try it, if you don't like it, may be go back?. People's inputs are biased and you may have a different experience than what others tell you.
One thing is sure, MIUI rom is more composed than the stock experience you get from CM.

Meh. Tried it, didn't like it. Went back to CM nightly. MIUI is not in any way faster or better on battery than CM or stock rom. That's all hype and placebo. And imo, LauncherPro2 is way better than MIUI launcher.
But, some people like it, and I'm glad we have a choice.

I agree. I was using miui not so long back, and its certainly a nice rom, and unlike many,i certainly don't mind the iphone look. However, the talk of it being faster and having better battery life than others is incorrect. I'm now using geos frg83 rom which is largely stock, and the speed and battery life are identical. I decided to start using that as I got sick of constantly updating newer versions of the rom, and all the issues it used to bring. However it is a very polished rom, but with ginger bread around the corner, I will just hold off until then.
As an out of the box rom though it is very nice and polished.

As far as am aware the messaging thing used to be an issue a few updates ago but I think it's fine now. Maybe someone else could clarify. If anything perform a nandroid backup just in case.

Hey all...I was wondering what people thought was the most stable/customizable rom out there? I'm currently using CM7 stable..and not to happy with it at all. I usually use MODACO's ROMS and have been very pleased....I just want something new, and fun...Any suggestions?
If you usually use Modoco, and have tried CM7, I guess only thing left to feel something "different & customizable" is the latest Miui.
Very stable and fast for me, and there are a bunch of themes. I highly recommend using Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher, as the built in launcher is what turns people away and in my experience is the source of instability. You can even cherry pick any aspect from between themes using the built in Theme Manager. Oh and on the latest version, I got 37 hours of normal use .
It's quite different. On MIUI now because I like the animations and built in exclusives:
File Manager with awesome indexing and great FTP
Music App is nice, scrolling lyrics are a cool feature
MIUI Gallery is slow at times, but lets you easily hide and unhide media folders.
MIUI Cam is nice too, reminds me of sense camera.
Phone/Contacts/SMS app are awesome as default android is lacking.
Lockscreen is visually nice.
I dislike the default launcher and the search!!
Niether are better, CM7 or MIUI, its all part of the fun of owning a great android phone. You get bored after a few months, you switch it up!

MIUI is nowhere near stable or bug-free. At least on Froyo it wasn't. And I don't believe that changing to a buggier Gingerbread as a base added stability to it.
If you want fun - go for it, in the worst case - keep your nandroid at hand.
If you want stability - stay with Froyo ROMs, CM6 or Enomther's. But it won't be fun then.
Yeah, I'm one of the people that have an amazing experience with MIUI, but others aren't so lucky. so like the guy above
Miui for new, fun and customizability
CM6 or Enom for guaranteed stable.
I've also had a great experience with MIUI. But, u'll only know by trying/flashing!
Thank you to all who responded. CM7 is going okay for me. I really like the customized features. But I'm having a terrible time with the Bluetooth feature. Every time I'm on a call, either the end user can't hear me or they hear static. I tried changing my kernel to REDSTAR, but yes, it made my phone screaming fast, but still I have the BT issue.
What do you all think of KANG-0-RAMA ROM? I'll check out the more stable roms you guys mentioned. I'm not a fan of MIUI only b/c I dont like the iPhone look. But what do you all like about cm6? and I emother? Can you all please list what are the pros and cons of those two?
AGAIN THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Stop being lazy!
If you use ADW for MIUI or reformat/repartition sd card--wipe all several times-- and do fresh install--use VM Heap Tool and set it at 48--the new GB MIUI is very stable for me.
I use MyBackUp Pro to bu home screens etc and restore--so it didn't take long to get back up and running
Take a look to this room http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061648 I have been using it for a couples of days and it is really stable, I don't know that kind of customization do you like from cm7 or modaco roms, I used too but they have too many problems.

thats odd... sleeps for almost everyone else. might be an app that is constantly keeping your phone awake or your sync settings are really frequent. which would go hand in hand with battery life.
Hearing people say MIUI is stable blows my mind. I've never used a buggier rom... it's quite nice when it works though.
I find that since 2.3, there hasn't been any stable roms. I'm hoping CM 7.1 is better, as I find CM7 pretty bad.
I'm using CM 7 ExtremeMod 16.5.2011 + a2sd. so far its very stable and battery last long.

Soon Samsung will stop updating the galaxy s so should i install cyanogenmod 7 now or wait till the stop supporting it ...is it easy to install from gingerbread jvq I've looked at the instructions but didn't understand how to do it and is every thing working on the phone with cyanogenmod
Everything is included but the CyanogenMod for I9000 is still an unstable version. FM radio oes not work and there is a feww bug here and there.
To install it, you need to revert back to a Froyo firmware which include a bootloader because the Gingerbread bootloader is not compatible entirely with CyanogenMod. Then, you root your phone, install ClockWorkMod or any kernel that has it, download the ROM, put it in the SD Card, restart the phone in recovery, then install zip from SD Card, choose the Rom Zip file and everything should install correctly.
Here is a link to the whole process LINK
Don't forget to backup your apps, and other relevant information and more important, make a backup of your EFS folder in case your IMEI is screwed up during the upgrade.
You will need to flash back to a ROM with Froyo Bootloaders first, but the installation is now very, very easy....use my guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101534
As for the advantages, CM7 is the fastest and smoothest ROM available, with a high level of customization, some exceptional features like the Theme Chooser, and a very active development and user community.
The disadvantages are that the battery life usually tops out at about a day and a half between charges max, and certain hardware features don't work as well as they should, due to the fact Samsung won't release their sources. These include the 780p video camera (lower resolution films fine), FM Radio and TV Out.
IN the end, the only way to really know if CM7 is for you is to try it out and see. Some users ultimately say they prefer the Samsung ROMS while others, like myself, are addicted to the high performance and tweaks of CM7 (as well as the community).
Come by the CM7 thread in the Dev forum, read back a few pages to see what is going on and join the discussions.
Having CM7 on SGS is like owning a Ford GT40. Beatiful and powerful beast, but if you actually dare to use it, it'll probably break down or you run out of juice in the middle of nowhere.

Made me laugh, There is an ounce of truth in there !!
Still a good ROM tho, a mega improvement over stock samsung roms at least.
Battery life for me is pretty much the same as stock, the performance is unrivalled and it has more functionality. For me it also more stable than 2.3.4 ROMs which have all kinds of dodgy bugs and random lags.
The battery life has been improved a lot in CyanogenMod, but it is still a bit high when using packet data.

It is as stable, or more stable, than any other ROM for this phone...
I dont find significant speed difference for Samsung JVQ, but it is more configurable, very usefull bits too, and it has the nicest theme, Honeycream, for someone that doesnt like green or blue themes...
The dialer and the camera apps are garbagge compared with samsung' s, but you can use the market like I did, got RocketDial and Camera360...
And you get a new version almost every night, good if you have nothing better to do then flashing the phone , plus they fix small errors and implement new features, Samsung is not doing that for the SGS any more...
EDIT battery is not a problem anymore...

Market is having problems recognizing my apps on SD card after I updated this ROM. Anyone else having this problem ? I don't have enough posts to post in the dev section.

X2.... First ROM I have ever installed!
Awesome Rom without a doubt, been running since it came out. Usually Jump Around Trying them all out. Happy Here!!! Keep up the Good Work!!!
I almost started a thread like this last week, because I've used a lot of GB roms, ever since they started leaking. CleanGB is easily the best one out there. Everything about my phone always works now. That's a nice feature to have in a ROM. Unless the Epic is your second phone, or you don't do anything important ever, reliability should always come first. CleanGB is what the Epic should have been from the manufacturer.
Everything that should be there, without anything that shouldn't.
Super reliable - everything works.
Great battery life.
Nice and fast, with no slow downs for me.
A clean, subtle, and improved theme.
What more could you ask for?
Yea.. I just installed this ROM and love it so far..
I'm looking to install JUST the 10lock mod that's compatible with this ROM..
do anyone have a link for it??
all the ones I see are themed.. I don't really want to theme anything.. I just want the mod..
Please help if you can..
Thanks,
This is the first ROM I installed. I resisted b/c I don't want another time sink. But Toadlife is right. CleanGB is for people who just want their phone to work.
I realized today that I LIKE my phone. Before, I was really disapointed with it.
THANK YOU TOADLIFE.
Snowy70... I had the same issue and I had to restore my backup and reflash this ROM. Since then no issues.

Ditto....I recently rooted and went with CleanGB as my first non-stock ROM. I'm seeing noticeable battery improvements and good quandrant stats. I'm quite pleased.
Thanks for the gtalk video link....I'll be doing the same.
So, who knows how to mod the boot animation on the CleanGB ROM?

How is the Battery compared to Stock Gingerbead? Ive Tried dozens of Roms but ended up back on stock and since ive gone back my battery last twice as long
This ROM is great, I have 2 people in my family with Epic 4G's and they wanted a good stable phone, so I installed this ROM for them and they have had no complaints. Awesome work toadlife!

have it running on the 3 epics in my household and we love this rom. great battery buttery smooth and quick.
Have shied away from custom ROMs due to issues introduced and been on rooted stock but this sounds like it's worth giving a shot. So far so good with everything working.
My favorite rom for sure! Stable, fast, and great battery!
put this on my phone last night and it fixed all of the issues i was having from the other 2 roms i was having and the data was running so much faster.
think this is the only rom i'll be running from here on out
Can you contrast and compare?
Too soon?
Midnote seems to have everything working from the getgo...fullroot...all features. Just stuck at 1200 speed.
Don't know about the others.
I'll be flashing the chainfire repack this weekend...
Hahahaha was just about to post the same question. Would love cm9 as I had that on my sgs2

All current stable ics leaks are clocked at 1.2
Swyped from the white galaxy note. You're jealous, it's ok.
LAGGY LAG!
I would be pretty much interested in the following: What is your guys experience with the well known lag of the note? After several weeks using a rom the note gets pretty laggy after standby sessions...evertime I unlock my note I have to wait a few seconds, until an app starts. This happened to me with stock & several RocketRoms & Kernels and I found many people sharing these experiences.
Will this change with ICS?

I've been using Chainfire's repack for a couple days and it's sped everything up immensely. There's still the dead minor stutter with scrolling in some apps, but all in all it's definitely a huge change.
I'll probably flash Rocket's 1.5 now that the SMemo is working and has the stock ICS messaging app, but is devoid of most of the bloat.
Gonna see if HW acceleration still brings everything up to snuff with a deodex'd rom, too.
Thanks DarkShot666! You´ve mentioned the stock messaging app, one more question in this context: I haven´t read anything about the calendar...are we able to use the stock cal as well or am I still bound to the S-Planner (which I kind of dislike in comparison to the beautiful ICS one )? I didn´t give the memo integration in the calendar one single shot, don´t need it (yet)...
I've been using ICS since the chinese leak came out. First I used that and then, when Team Rocket ROM came out, I switched to that and have been using it since.
I also have used ICS CM9 alpha by maui for about a week as a daily driver.
All in all, there is a serious speed boost and everything looks nicer (IMO), yet there are also still bugs. The most notable for me is lack of "use wireless networks" setting for GPS location. At the moment the only GPS app I use is Foursquare (since my car is in service now, so no navigation for a while), and I have troubles locking on to GPS. It takes forever (meaning it takes minutes) and sometimes doesn't lock at all. This is in contrast to CM9 alpha I tried before, which would give me a quite good location in a few seconds.
The calendar is ICS stock, I think.. At least it looks like that.
What I don't really like is that there is no stock "contacts" and "dialer". It's a personal preference, of course, but I really like the ICS original apps, especially contacts and phone, which give you hi-res full-screen pic of the person calling. This one doesn't.
All in all, if I compare GB on Note to ICS on Note, ICS is definitely faster, smoother and generally way better. You have to suffer a few bugs and a few Force Closes here and there, at least for now..
If I compare the new leaked ROM and custom ROMs based on that with the CM9 build by maui, I must say that CM9 definitely would win if it didn't have the current major problems like camera not working and a bit more FCs than on leaked one. CM9 alpha seemed smoother and cleaner, it also had stock AOSP ICS apps and for the GPS issue - CM9 locked on almost instantly (2-10 sec, even indoors), way faster than any ROM on GB I tried, it also seemed to have a bit smoother animations and effects. One notable example would be when pinch-zoom-out is used in browser. If you watch a demo/review of proper ICS (for example, Galaxy Nexus) where you can see pinch-zooming in browser, when you zoom out, the previous full screen stays visible as a block, yet the new zoomed-out portion is not yet visible. When releasing fingers, the non-visible area fades smoothly to readable text. (hard to describe, so just watch a video if you don't understand what I mean). In CM9 Note does this, but in the new leak it doesn't fade - the area just suddenly appears.
To sum it up, I'm not going back to GB anymore, using Team Rocket ROM now but waiting eagerly for a new release of CM9 by maui.
try the leaked rom ,, its fine and working good and smoth
I've tried Chainfire repack and Midnote. I prefer Midnote - it solved a few things like apps update on every reboot, notification bar prompting for updates and the fingerprint changed to N7000 instead of I9220.
Midnote is the choice! Definitely!
Gona start flashing soon! But im gonna wait for a few weeks for a stable ics rom

midnote 2.0 running for two days. no issue at all.even some games are working that was not working on gb rom.
MidNote definitely. I tried RR 1.4, 1.5 & Midnote and Midnote was smoother by a mile. Stuff just works too. GPS, Bluetooth, Camera, Videorecorder, Market, Dialer, etc. I did make a bunch of mods, removing apps, adding others e.g. video player (instead of second gallery) Titanium backup also works awesomely.
BTW anyone thinking about coming from GB to ICS DO NOT USE CWM TO FLASH AN ICS ROM OR KERNEL. You must use Mobile Odin or PC Odin (careful of PC version it will raise your binary counter & give you triangle) or else you will not obtain complete root, and it will be a headache and a half to reflash backwards then forwards again.
If you haven't tried it yet here's a video I recorded yesterday showing how smooth Midnote is:

Can you give an example of this? Do you mean games that previously couldn't be installed can now be installed?
Thought I'd update.
I haven't tried MidNote so I can't compare but I've been running RR 1.5 and it's fantastic.
Buttery smooth and everything works as intended. Using ADW EX has never been more enjoyable. Used Titanium to remove a lot that I didn't need as well as restore everything and it works without a hitch. I've had solid performance on Wifi too. Bluetooth does seem a touch fickle but that too could be attributed to a low battery on my MBW-150.
The only issues I've had thus far would be that you can't set a wallpaper with forced HW acceleration on and the resolution is reduced when setting the lockscreen wallpaper for some odd reason. Nothing overly major though.
I might try MidNote if I'm really in the mood, but for now I'm pleased with how it's all set up.
I have been using the imilka's TOM and so far I haven't had any big problems. Of course there are some major and minor bugs to be fixed but the de is working really fast on this rom.

yup i would have to agree with him. this rom is by far the closest we can get to cm9 or stock ics. it does have minor bugs such as usb file transfer and video player, and few extras, but everything else works flawlessly. camera works, all other apps work, faceunlock, etc, very fast and smooth. he has even made a flashable zip that can transform the note into an actual tablet form. he had some bugs in version 1, but he fixed them in version 2 (and i must say, the developer is really fast). although there are fc bugs in tablet form, but i'm sure he's going to fix them in the next day or two.
i tried cm9 for couple of days, but the lack of camera, usb mount, and some others took me off it.
before imilka's rom, i was on romow v1 ics. it worked pretty well. but as its not really full clean aosp ics, i couldn't deal with it. although it is pretty much ics themed, except the dialer, messaging, and contacts. but it is smooth and stable nonetheless. faceunlock works, which is really cool.
all other roms (midnote, rocket, etc) i can't deal with. the themes are all kinda "in your face" and i hate that. not really sure about the smoothness and stability on those so can't really comment on that as i havent flashing them really. (maybe once or twice to see how it is, but quickly restored to original rom)
by the way, i hope the devs don't take offense. a little criticism never hurts, and opinions matter

I used redpill recovery to install midnote - worked great, and I didn't have to mess about with odin.
The step by step instructions in the midnote thread were brilliant.
midnote 2.0 for me is smooth and fast for me, fix some of issue that repack has, weird that they are some minor force close at first few boots after flash, then they are gone later. although fixed at 1.2ghz, it definitely smoother than GB clocked at 1.6ghz... havent tried rocket rom yet, but midnote 2.0 is great for me
