[guide] cdma (sprint) working ics guide - Galaxy Tab General

Hey All
Several ICS roms have been released for The Galaxy Tab, some claiming to work for the Sprint Cdma version of The tab
I have flashed them all, and I have a working guide for all sprint users to get ICS!
1. Odin back to stock Gingerbread (EF17), then flash the CWM Recovery
2. Download the V4 Rom, and Gapps 7.1 from ROOTZWIKI ([ROM] [CDMA] AOSP ICS / CM9 - BUILD 4.1 [02/03])
3. Go into the Rom Zip, and edit the updater-script and delete assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "vzwtab" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "vzwtab" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "SCH-I800" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "SCH-I800" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "SPH-P100" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "SPH-P100");
3. Place both the rom and g apps on sd card
4. boot into recovery and clear data, them flash rom, mount system, them flash g apps, then reboot
5. You now Have working ICS
Ill post screen shots soon

Thanks! I've been looking for this, I've tried to flash ICS but it always ended up stuck at samsung logo

I am getting installation aborted. I have done all the steps, to include editing the updater-script. Please HELP!!

Can you please post links to what is needed to make this happen?
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App

Really? So the updater-script in the rom starts w/
"ui_print"...
It is the updater that prevents it from working w/ sprint tabs; the edit makes it work
so try
1. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE ROM + GAPPS FROM ROOTZWIKI ([ROM] [CDMA] AOSP ICS / CM9 - BUILD 4.1 [02/03])
The rom is called TeamHacksung or something along those lines
2. DO not flash the sms fix
I have not tried it as I use my tab w/ wifi, but when I did flash I was stuck @ black screen
3. When editing the Updater script, unzip the rom, copy the updater-script, edit it, REPLACE THE ONE IN THE ROM THEN REZIP THE ROM, put on SD Card, then follow instructions
IT the GAPPS flash right after rom flash doesnt show up, boot back into recovery, mount system, then flash, then reboot, should fix that
Let me know how it goes

As for Links,
Until I get 8 posts I cannot post outside links
But google
[ROM] [CDMA] AOSP ICS / CM9 - BUILD 4.1 [02/03]
and a Rootzwiki link should appear w/ all the download links available
PM me if you need help

I DMed you too, but it is still not working. What version of CwM should I be on?

Updating build.prop?
Are there any issues if I were to edit the build.prop file to reflect Sprint and the Sprint model number for the Tab? I use wi-fi only, so it probably doesn't matter too much for me, but I'm just curious. It might be better for me to ask - is there anything in that file that I shouldn't modify?

Thanks! I decided to take the plunge, downloaded and installed the v5 ROM from Rootzwiki, along with that patch. Working great, and I'm really loving ICS on my tab.

Once I found where "updater-script" (META-INF\COM\GOOGLE\ANDROID and extract updater-script) was located this worked. I used notepad++ to edit the script and then was able to re-zipe it and flash ISC!
Thank you for the info! It is not easy finding info for the Sprint tab in this form.

3g any way of fixing this
awesome work gentlemen, i love this rom very exciting but i have my p100 flashed to cricket i was wondering if there was any way to fix the internet.i really appreciate the effort you put into this i will buy you a six pack once i get back on my feet

teamhacksung build4 missing headphones
thank you to the great forum and handy work of all who have shown me the way....thank you so much..My only beef is with missing audio on my samsung tab 7 CDMA. I have ICS up and going but no audio out...im looking daily but any assistance would be awsome...

HOLY CRAP. Thanks guys for the information. I finally got CM9 on my P100 GTab.
There is absolutely no decent guide for doing this properly for someone who has never flashed a Gtab before. "update-script" sounds a lot like "updater.sh" script file that is in the root directory. Without a proper folder structure you are just wasting time.
Also Heimhall 1.1.11 or whatever doesn't have proper drivers to work with newer Windows. I had to hack n' slash a few different versions to get everything I needed. I did use the 1.1.11 or whatever version front end executable though. Flashing the zImage and Recovery file wasn't hard but the program is a bit confusing.
I'm going to make a fresh thread with some serious details because, while the information is out there, it is scattered and in a million places.

This is cool. It works with Milestone 6. This is the only way to get this running on SPH-P100. Thanks.

I've tried to flash a nightly/stable and I can't get it to flash.
I don't thing I'm editing the script correctly.
can someone help on this subject?
I read one post that says delete the first 3 lines.
I've done that.
I tried the way the op stated and still a no go.
I have the Sprint Tab with CWM.

[MOD] Build.prop for Thor's newer Roms(UPDATED TO V14.2fixed+3Gfix).

Hey guys thought I would start up a thread and post my build.prop mod for Thor's newer roms that will keep your tablet looking like an Acer instead of an Asus, so that your Gameloft games will all play. There is one app that I know of so far that will not work with my build.prop and that is the MyLibary app from Asus. Sorry still looking in to see if I can find a fix for that. Below are the steps to apply this build.prop. The Uploaded files are NOT actual .zip files(UNLESS THEY ARE THE NEW FLASHABLE ZIPS THAT BEGIN WITH THOR), just been renamed by adding .zip to end so that it could be uploaded here. You need to drop off all characters to make the file just named build.prop.
For "NEW" Install
1- Download the build.prop that you need from below
2- Rename file from "build.propv*.zip" to "build.prop" no quotes.
3- Open the rom that you are going to flash buy double clicking.
4- Double click on system.
5- Here you will see the existing build.prop
6- Now just click and drag my modded build.prop to where the existing one is and it will be over written. May take a min for WinRar or 7zip to add file cause it will unzip, and file, then rezip.
7- Flash rom as normal and Enjoy!
For "Existing" install.
Method 1- File Explorer Style.
1- Download the build.prop that you need from below.
2- Rename file from "build.propv*.zip" to "build.prop" no quotes.
3- Move file to your internal or external sdcard, your choice.
4- Now you will need a file Explorer that has root capabilities, IE Root Explorer or ES FIle Explorer.
5- Copy the modded build.prop to /system.
6- Change permissions to rw-r-r.
7- Reboot into recovery and clear JUST your cache, that way new cache will be rebuilt based on new build.prop.
8- Reboot and Enjoy!
Method 2- ADB Style
1- Move download & RENAMED build.prop to your tools folder or where you push files from.
2- adb remount
3- adb push build.prop /system
4- adb reboot recovery
5- Wipe JUST your cache.
6- Reboot and Enjoy!.
Method 3- Flashable zip- Many thanks to kird.of-k for creating these.
1- Download your desired flashable zip from below. One of the two files that begin with Thor.
2- Flash using recovery
3- Wipe you cache in recovery
4- Reboot, give kird.of-k some thanks, ENJOY!
USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND REALIZE SOME APPS MAY NO LONGER WORK THE WAY THEY DO WHEN YOUR TABLET THINKS IT IS AN ASUS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
But in all reality should work just fine.
Huge thanks goes out to Thor for creating such an awesome rom and all his other work. Our tabs are all better because of that dev. So please don't forget to visit his thread and give him thanks, and possibly buy him something nice.
I will update the build.props as thor releases new roms.
Don't forget the "Thanks" button if you use this and it helped you. Appreciate it.
Works like a charms thanks bud ive tested and you can run ll acer apps its pretty nice to have best of both worlds

Sounds great! Does this work with the 3G patch fod the Tor ROMs?
Thanks, Marcher
Nevermind after some tinkering got it to work
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
I think the rom itself must be messed up cuz I can run Gameloft games still some say not original copy and then some download and then after intro close to my homescreen..
Wait till Thor 13 lol

I will have v12 for 3g patch in just a few min.
Added to op, so either add to the 3G patch before you flash or add it after wards your choice. There are really no changes to anything technicial, just to names in build.prop. Let me know how it works.
Great!
Thanks a lot, will try next week when I have some spare time ...
ok, so I installed clean V12 with 3G patch, system up and running, then changed the build.prop to yours and lost the 3G ... Mobile Networks option disappeared from the setting menu ... all the rest seemed to wrok fine and showing tablet as an Acer ...
Reverted back to my Thor V10 backup as I prefer the look&feel of it, not a big fan of the ICS flavor in V12 ...
Thanks, Marcher
So in order for this to work for me at least it's odd but i need to change name to build.prop then put into another rom zip besides thorxx and once it's changed to a building prop file after renaming it for a second time i then drop the build.prop into the Thor rom I am about to flash if i dont do this i get errors and it doesn't flash..
Hope this will help anyone that has troubles

Thanks for this. It was a breeze to install, and got NOVA 2 to work. So my question is... Thor v13? It just came out and sounds even better, if possible. I would very much appreciate it.

[GUIDE] Port SGS ICS Roms...

Needs: 7zip and Notepad++ (install these to pc)
Porting: (We are porting ROM.zip)
Rom Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665
Note: You can only port ıcs roms with this method...And this is only for personal using...
1-Dont extract Rom.zip anytime. Only open it with 7zip
2-Download attached keylayout file and extract it. Then delete keylayout folder (\system\usr\keylayout) on Rom.zip and replace new one you extracted...
3-Extract build.prop (\system\) and updater-script(\META-INF\com\google\android\) on Rom.zip
4-Right click extracted build.prop and click edit with notepad++
"ro.product.model=GT-I9000
ro.product.name=GT-I9000
ro.product.device=GT-I9000"
change these lines GT-I9000 to SGH-I897 then save.
5-Right click extracted updater-script and click edit with notepad++
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "galaxys" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "galaxys" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "galaxysmtd" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "galaxysmtd" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "GT-I9000" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "GT-I9000" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "GT-I9000M" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "GT-I9000M" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "GT-I9000T" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "GT-I9000T");
Delete these lines on top and save.
6-Replace your edited build.prop and updater-script on Rom.zip
7-Replace your favorite modem.bin on Rom.zip
8-Find an Cappy ICS kernel and extract it... Replace boot.img on Rom.zip and delete modules folder (\system\lib\modules\) on Rom.zip and replace with extracted kernel one...
9-Removing front face camera files...
-Delete FaceLock.apk from (\system\apk\)
-Delete pittpatt folder from (\system\vendor\)
-Delete libfilterpack_facedetect.so from (\system\lib\)
-Delete libfacelock_jni.so from (\system\lib\)
10- Deleting unnecessary videos...
-Delete video folder(\system\media\)
11-Changing default lang to english if needs...
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
Find these lines on build.prop and change (if different) the bold en and US or if you want to change your lang you can write our lang... for example ı want to change turkish and ı must change tr TR...
12- Change DPI to 240 if needs
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
find this line in build.prop and if different then 240, make it 240 for market compatibility...
Finally flash your ported ICS and enjoy it...
PS:If ı helped you then click simply thanks button and maybe you can donate
for future...
And... where do we get ICS SGS ROM from?
I assume from xda Galaxy S?
I mixed it up with Nexus S I think...

can't you use this for any i9000 rom?
The i9000 rom I am using, has an update script without any of those lines....EDIT: which is good because it now works.....
I am guessing that is a lot more complicated to port from Nexus or Nexus S to SGS.
Great guide, thanks! Will try some i9000 ROMs and see how it goes!

maybe another day another guide for gnex\nexS...
there are different ways to make it...
1-you can directly compile from rom source with using a linux machine...
2-you can port from directly rom( needs fix RIL,GPS,installation...etc)
umm... how is this different from porting any other rom from i9000? re-oriented kernel & homebutton fix (keylayout). build.prop & install script edit. DONE
and note: this is how to build a "zip rom". *some devs argue if this is even development as it is breaking copyright, unless built from source. but widely found on xda, and not a problem.

Stated for personal use, and last I checked its an open forum its not as if the ROMS are being sold
I usually flash the SGS rom first and then replace keylayout and kernel.
Most SGS roms don't have Model-judging-script
As far as I know he is posting these different roms so we can try them out and give feedback on what we and Turk will use as his base to build on.
I for one appreciate the options he is giving us.
Makes me feel like I have a direct say in the development.
Turk has made all of his fans apart of his development team!
Go team TURK!!
This is getting frustrating now, everybody fighting like teenage girls on XDA.
People be mature and solve your problems in PM's rather than in Development Threads.
I really love all the new roms but same rom by different people and then fighting who Ported it [email protected]#[email protected]
When i started out on Xda in end of 2010, roms were few but had quality and some original development and there were also ports but were handled gracefully.
This porting business is getting out of hand now.

Actually I rather agree, but you're all fighting like little boys.
This 'I ported it first' stuff has to stop. The guide posted here is fine. The rest of this dreck has been cleaned out. Bans are on the way for those who continue to hosey ports, call names, or otherwise bicker. Grow up.
some one heard me...i think the fights for unofficial porting should stop and people should rather get official ports...now i will be porting all the sgs ports unofficially on my phone woohoo
Wow I never knew that porting roms would be this easy! And I tried it for myself and it's working perfectly! Thanks vibranturk for this great info!

Update: Nightly builds are available now for Wifi version.
I wonder what the differences are between this and the preview version in the development section or what is included in the nightly and what is working etc. I love CM but I wish the documentation was a little better. I would totally volunteer my services to do this for them.
Anyone tried the latest build yet and is the camera finally working?
This thread made it 4 whole posts before someone asked about camera...
The answer is NO
Anyone knows about the status of 3G on CM9 for our tabs? I'm just wondering how come it isn't included officially yet, since it's working on KANGs already ...

The alpha version of this Snapshot required a recovery.img installed through Fastboot to be able to flash Snapshot.Somebody was so kind to provide us with a .tar version of the recovery.img enabling Odin to be used.Otherwise no easy way to get the Snap zip through CWM on your p4wifi.
I am using the alpha version two weeks now,it's great !!!If you don't need a camera it's fine for everyday use.I can't tell how it compares to the other Kang builds.
Original Snapshot was presented by Steve Kondik,it was never in the CM download list, this new version of it is in the CM download list.First release two weeks ago was reported by Skilover here on XDA.
There is no changelog of it yet afaik.
The recovery.img I flashed as a .tar through Odin is "CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4" on my P7510,I had no issues flashing the 20120302 Snapshot .zip in recovery mode.
It is running very smooth with Nova Launcher.
Noticed the wifi mac address of my tab changed after installing this. Is that normal?

If you remove the assert line from the updater script in the P4tmo version, it will flash on the P4 (GT-P7500) with 3G working as well. My P7500 is currently running the P4tmo snapshot.

Okay for my own personal knowledge your saying that the original is missing the tar file so it was added. What's a tar file and what other way can I install files like this in the future? Download mode, ADB? Thanks.

Initially I tried to flash the alpha Snapshot .zip in recovery mode (CWM),this did not work.In the Silkover thread I found many posts on this issue.Advise was to remove a line in the assert script. This did not work for me also. The recovery .img made for Fastboot can not be flashed by Odin, this program requires .tar files.
I got the .tar version of the recovery.img file and flashed this through Odin (recovery.tar in PDA)in Download mode on P7510.Then in recovery mode install Snapshot.zip.In android development section stickies instructions can be found on the use of Odin.I uploaded the recovery .tar file :

Yes the nightly build is quiet a performer but I would expect nothing less from cm.
Got it up and running on my P7500 through removing the mentioned assert line. But either I've done something terrible wrong by doing a full wipe before flashing or there is now a buggy wifi driver in place because I'm not able to connect to various wep secured networks (don't mention that Sep is not secure, not my networks). Logcat only states something with assertion in driver. For now I'm switching back to a kanged version hopefully this will be fixed with the next version.
Just flashed this new nightly. I had to remove the assert line, but had no problem once that was removed. Also, even though I only wiped cache/dalvik, I had to go back into recovery and flash the latest gapps before the google framework showed up.
Running it now, it's fast! No problems with wifi or anything else so far.
If anyone wants the nightly with the assert line removed, I can post the zip to mediafire or some other sharing site.
Awesome work!
Its finally that the nightlies are starting. I can't wait until a stable CM9 comes out!

[20.03.13]Dualboot Samsung JB with AOSP based ROMs [GUIDES/VIDEOS/LINKS]

Please read this carefully ! Don´t continue if you don´t understand the following easy statements !
1. I am not a Developer ! Nothing of the following Apps/Roms/Tools I post here are made by myself, I am just using them !
2. Do not follow this guide if you plan to use your SII the next 2 hours! (seriously)
3. If anything goes wrong, it is not my fault! It´s the way I made it...Please, think about every step you do, it´s your Phone
4. Do not follow this if you don´t know how to flash a Kernel or a custom Rom and you know that you will be to lazy to learn this with the help of this awesome XDA Forum (like I did)
5. If you find something confusing and can not find a Solution feel free to ask. But please, be nice !
6. English is not my Mom´s language and even tho I do like it, I am sure you will find mistakes. Sorry about this !

My Motivation
I do like Cyanogenmod as many of you do. Due to Samsung´s strange behaviour the CM Team still has a hard time with Google´s Jelly Bean on our Galaxy S2. It still causes troubles here and there, even tho the Developers did and do a amazing job on it. Many words, I know, ok, let me get the facts straight : I LOVE CM but I NEED some Samsung stuff.
In the past, with ICS it was possible, thanks to some very (very!!!!) good Developers, to dual boot Samsung ICS Rom and CM Roms. When Jelly Bean leak came out, we had to realize that this wasnt possible anymore as we now got the /preload partition because our /system partition wasnt big enough anymore to carry all needed files.
Even tho it is possible to use jazzk´s chameleon and CM Rom with DorimanX Kernel because jazzk didnt use the /preload partition, it was impossible to use another Stock or custom Samsung Rom.
That bugged me.
Thanks and Credits for all they have done to :
The Cyanogenmod Team for CM10.1
dorimanx for his awesome Kernels
tedascuen for sharing the stock XWLS8 Rom
_Sofos_ for sharing the XWLSD Rom
Goldieking and his Team for his awesome Mods
All those who helped me in this Thread (mentioned below)
Chainfire, of course for so much!

Update 20.03.2013
I have been a bit lazy lately with all this but I tested some of the DorimanX Kernels. It seems that Kernel 8.3 and higher are more than OK now for booting both, CM and Sammy Roms. To me, as I didn´t follow all this very close, it got a bit confusing. Please read the last Pages, there are always some nice guys testing this & that AND they also give support.
Update 28.02.2013 Part 1
If you are looking for more different Setups / Videos & Tutorials, they are now in Post #6
Update 28.02.2013 Part 2
There has been a lot of confusion with several Updates in CM 10.1. While this is a very good Step ahead for Open Source Projects, it makes Dual Boot with Samsung based Roms a bit harder. dorimanx has been working hard to get it all running, even Dual boot between CM10.1 and XWLSD is possible but for me and many others, Camera and Video is broken in the Sammy Rom. I will edit this as soon as this is fixed because IMO his Version 8 is another Masterpiece.
But for now this will be a "dirty" or "faked" Dual Boot.
What you need :
- DorimanX 7.44 "LSD EDITION" (Thanks to THE RED BLUR for your help)
- Any AOSP/AOKP Rom you want to use
- PreLoadLSDrom.zip (More Details)
(This is an edited XWLSD Rom that fits into our /preload Partition. DON´T use as FIRST Rom, it has NO Kernel)
- Time
Now we start :
- Flash the AOSP/AOKP you want to use as FIRST (!) Rom
- Set it up and (optional if you need the boot.img or just to have a running System backed up) make a Backup from Recovery
- Flash the DorimanX 7.44 "LSD EDITION"
- Reboot into its Recovery and prepare 2nd Rom
- Install PreLoadLSDrom.zip
- Boot into 2nd Rom to see if it works
- Done for now
With this Setup you now have 2 independent Systems on your Phone. Flashing another Open Source Rom in FIRST will not touch your Sammy Rom as all (AFAIK) Open Source Roms don´t use/touch the /preload Partition.
Please note, flashing any Sammy Rom, that´s not edited for this, will delete this Setup.
As long as you are using one of the "older" Open Source Roms you can now boot both Roms from the DorimanX 7.44 "LSD EDITION"
If you use a Open Source Rom with the new Video Drivers (and all these things I don´t understand) you will now need to install the corresponding Kernel each time you want to switch between the Roms. For now, I can confirm that Dorimanx 8 runs perfect with CM10.1 (24th build) because I tested it. So, you may now flash the "LSD EDITION" for the LSD Rom or the DorimanX 8 Kernel for your AOSP/AOKP Rom. This is dirty for now but it´s safe and working. And I am sure there will be a fix for this, soon!
Update 28.02.2013 Part 3
I moved my first Tutorials to Post #3. This got way to confusing here.. Also, this Post is edited to make it easier for the People to find what they are searching for.

Even tho it is possible to use jazzk´s chameleon and CM Rom with DorimanX Kernel because jazzk didnt use the /preload partition, it was impossible to use another Stock or custom Samsung Rom.
That bugged me.
What I had was :
- a stock deodexed and rooted Jelly Bean Rom by Samsung from here
- a CM 10.1 Rom from here
- THE DorimanX Kernel 7.44 from here
- Rootbrowser Lite from Market (don´t know how to link it, but you will find it)
- TIME
If you have what I had, you can try the following lines...
First of all, I flashed the stock deodexed and rooted Rom I mentioned above (thanks to tedascuen for sharing)
I finished the complete Setup of the Rom, including Google Account, WLAN settings..
Now :
- download Rootbrowser Lite from Market
- use Rootbrowser Lite (now called RB) to delete all apps from /system/apps that I don´t need/use
- after that, reboot into stock recovery by holding Volume up + Home + Power
- do a Factory Reset
- reboot the System and finish the Setup of the Rom (as above)
- download RB Lite from Market again
- use RB to copy big files from /preload/symlink/system/apps to a folder in /data/apps/ that I named "sysapps"
Big Files I moved :
- ClockPackage.apk
- MusicPlayer.apk
- SamsungIME.apk
- SecBrowser.apk
- SecContacts.apk
- SecEmail.apk
- SecExchange.apk
- SecGallery2.apk
- SecLauncher2.apk
- SecMms.apk
- SecPhone.apk
- VideoPlayer.apk
Click to collapse
- now delete the old symlinks in /system/apps of the Files above (you will get some errors/FC while doing this)
- now switch to /data/apps/sysapps and start to create new symlinks with RB by longpressing the file and "create shortcut"
- switch to /system/apps again and paste the shortcut (important, do this one by one, show some patience)
- after you created all new symlinks, reboot the system, you will see, all apps work again!
- most of the other apps from /preload/symlink/system/apps will fit into /system/apps but don´t move useless apps like all apps containing "test" in their name or google plus (you can install that later from market) or "swype" or.... I am to lazy to write down all apps I didnt move but with a bit of common sense you will make it for sure.
- after moving the apps to /system/apps you will see that all apps you moved will be set to rw-r-r and all symlinks you created will be set to rwx-rwx-rwx, thats fine !
- reboot the phone, everything should work fine
If so...
- flash the DorimanX Kernel 7.44 and
- reboot into his recovery
- switch to dual-boot options and set up the 2nd Rom
- clone 1st Rom to 2nd Rom
- reboot into 2nd Rom just to check if it works (it will)
now...
- reboot into recovery and install the CM10.1 made by MCM from here
- after the installation has finished, reboot the system and let CM10.1 boot
(GAPPS are not needed, yet but you may install them before you boot into CM)
- I really hope the CM has booted fine, now open STweaks
- in STweaks, change OpenSource Gralloc to Samsung´s Gralloc
- reboot the system and check in STweaks if the change worked (Samsung´s Gralloc)
now...
- reboot into recovery and flash the DorimanX Kernel again (or use Odin)
- after that, reboot again and you will see the Dual Boot Screen, you can choose first or second Rom
- DONE !!!
Another Way was...
Due to my slow internet connection I will only provide the way and the updater script here. Anybody who likes to help may link the Rom with the updated files here, this would be very kind !
To do what I did I used this : Notepad++ and 7zip !
Ok, lets go !!
- copy the stock deodexed Rom I mentioned above (for the lazy people, Link) to your PC
- Use 7zip to unzip the Rom (or any other tool!)
- unzip the attached file and replace the updater-script in /META-INF/com/google/android/ (in the unzipped Rom)
- in the unzipped Rom, go to /preload/symlink/system and move the complete "app" folder to /data/app
- your data folder should look like this : /data/app/app
- delete the now empty /preload folder
- use 7zip to compress data+META-INF+system+temp folders again
- copy your new compressed ROM on your SD Card
- boot your phone into recovery and install your ROM
- done !
I just did this exactly that way (after editing the updater script) and it worked perfectly for me. I can´t tell about performance or problems as I just tested this to see if it will run. Any feedback is more than appreciated.

CWM flashable .zip
Interesting approach!
Can someone try to make clean`n lite CWM flashable zip from XWLS8 to use it with dual boot?
I also miss some things from CM10.1 when same time there are some "must have" things on Sammy`s.

Thanks to the great Idea and work of hawkerpaul there is now another, way easier and more simple way to setup 2 Roms for Dual Boot ! (look here for his thread)
I will try to explain as good as I can with a Samsung Rom (XWLSD) that I modified to make it run with another, Kernel compatible AOSP Rom !
Once again, all Credits for the "Magic" of the ROMs go to their respective Developers. I just modified the Updater Script a little, removed a lot of "Bloatware" and moved as many Apps as possible to /system partition. The /preload/symlink/system/app folder only contains a few Apps and has only about 80MB now.
Now we can use the /preload partition with both Roms which gives us much more smoothness/speed and an overall more stable system!
Before you start please note !
- The "myLSDrom.zip" contains a modified DorimanX 7.44 Kernel that is able to run XWLSD Sammy Rom (Thanks to THE RED BLUR for the Heads up)(Post). So, for now, the 2nd Rom needs to be compatible with this Kernel or you need to search another Kernel for this by yourself. I can and will not support this as I am not a Developer but a simple User and I am very happy with this Setup right now.
- The "myLSDrom.zip" also contains Goldieking´s amazing TeamAllianceMod. Why ? Because I LOVE it.
- I removed as much Samsung Stuff as possible. Even Samsung IME got replaced by Xperia S Kexyboard from here. If you don´t like my Setup you can do this by yourself with a XWLSD Rom, just let me know if you need help. I will try to write down a Tutorial !
1. Download myLSDrom.zip from here
2. Download the Rom you like to have as second one
3. Download hawkerpaul´s GS2PreloadRestore v1.04 and GS2PreloadBackup v1.03 from here (Downloadlink not yet ready)
4. Put all Files somewhere on your SD Card (internal/external) where you will find it later
5. Install myLSDrom.zip as first Rom and set it up
6. Boot into Recovery and Backup the Rom
7. Run GS2PreloadBackup v1.03 to backup the /preload/symlink Folder (install zip from SD Card will start it)
8. Now install the 2nd Rom
- usually while we install a Rom, the /system partition gets formatted. When we install a ROM as second, the Kernel leads to /preload as system partition. That´s why we usually lose all Files inside /preload. Thanks to hawkerpaul, that´s no Problem anymore
9. Run GS2PreloadRestore v1.04 to restore the backup of our /preload/symlink
10. DONE !!!!
If you run into Problems, please do not quote this all!

The EASY way
Ok, now I think I got this running!
Please note, all warnings, thanks and credits are in the very first Post. Please make sure you have read and understand them all!!
Thanks for your Attention
Follow these few steps careful and you will end up like I did, with a CM10.1 and a Samsung Jelly Bean XWLS8 Rom on the same Phone.
1. Download your favorite CM 10 or CM 10.1 Rom
2. Download the modified Stock deodexed & rooted XWLS8 Sammy Rom from here or the FULL ROM provided by Troubadour666, thank you very much for this !!
- the modified Stock is very "Lite" but I will write down the way to get the missing files if you need them !
- the FULL ROM provided by Troubadour666 contains ALL FILES !
3. Copy both Roms and the DorimanX 7.44 Kernel to the root of your SD Card, or wherever, just make sure you´ll be able to find them later !
4. CAREFUL ! PLEASE DO THIS STEP BY STEP !!!
5. Install the "literom.zip" (the downloaded modified Stock Rom)
6. Let it boot completely (important) with the stock Kernel (important) (this may take a while but it will boot!!)
7. Now install the DorimanX Kernel and boot into its Recovery
8. Setup the 2nd Rom
9. Clone 1st Rom to 2nd Rom
10. Try to boot into 2nd Rom (I hope it will) and let it boot, just to make sure
11. Reboot into DorimanX Recovery, do a Factory Reset/Wipe all
12. Install the CM Rom of your choice (my choice : MCM´s builds, AWESOME!) and let it boot completely (Gapps are not needed right now)
13. CAREFUL ! PLEASE READ !!!
14. If you are using MCM´s CM 10.1 you need to (thanks to unexist6969 for that Info!!!!)
- start STweaks
- in systemsettings, change Gralloc to "Samsung Gralloc"
- exit STweaks and reboot once to check if Samsung Gralloc is applied
- if so, reboot into Recovery again
15. Install the DorimanX Kernel again (cwm or odin, I prefer CWM flash, never had problems or yellow Triangle)
16. Reboot, you just set up a nice running Dual Boot System ! Congratulations !!
Hint : If you run into a bootloop after step 16, hold Volume up+Home+Power till you enter Recovery and wipe cache and Dalvik cache, this will work
Click to collapse
Please note : If you want to apply any visual Mod on this, you need to change a lot of things. An Example, I am using the Alliance AOSP Mod (AWESOME stuff,LINK) and I had to copy the Files manually because the Mod points to /preload..but don´t worry, copy n paste will do, they allready did all the MAGIC (seriously great stuff) !
If you miss Samsung Stuff follow these easy steps :
- Get the Full Rom from first Post
- inside you will find a Folder called "Preload" extract that on your PC
- copy the Apps you missed to your Phone SD Card
- now use Root Browser Lite to copy them to /data/apps/apps
- Longpress (RB Lite) the File and tap "create shortcut"
- Switch to /system/apps and paste the shortcut
- Do this with each File and reboot, DONE.
This may sound complicated but really, it isnt. Don´t be afraid to ask questions that are not answered here or in First Post!!
EDIT:
Important : All MIRRORS are very welcome as i don´t know how Google Drive handles Bandwith. Also, feel free to post your own Full or modded Versions here as long as you give propper Credits to the DEVELOPERS. Please keep in mind, we are nothing without them!
If your Version is confirmed to be working I will add it here (if you like).
Greetings & thanks for your Attention
Thomas
It Works
So as i say to you in MP, i download the files in post 9 (removed since)
and i repack it as a normal flashable ZIP , with WINRAR , i add last dori in too
and i flash it in second rom. before that i format second rom data and cache, wipe data/cache too.
so I boot and i m happy with my ls8n in rom2. thank's for that !

Script worked with neatrom full. Just needed rename sale to tmp.
Cloned 1st ROM to 2nd ROM and viewed current status and it didn't show 2nd ROM.
installed cm10.1 to 1st ROM and changed gralloc to Samsung.
Installed dorimanx 7.45 and booted but there wasn't any dual boot screen, just dorimanx logo.
I'll try this again later today with new steps

Hey,
thanks for feedback!
I think the NeatRom Updater Script is very different to the Stock one but I seriously don´t know for sure. I can only tell that the way I described will work wih the Download I provided (tested by myself) and DorimanX 7.44. If you find the Time, try it with the Rom I provided (literom.zip) from Post #15 and follow the Steps again. If you run into Problems then, maybe me or another User will be able to help you.
But in generally I would expect the Problems in the different UpdaterScript.
If you want to use NeatRom you may still try my first way in First Post (manually moving the Files)
Hope that helped a bit!

I can not really explain, I followed a hint from Unexist6969. Fact is, MCM's build will not run with DorimanX if you don't change it.
A wild guess is the Ram allocation to Graphics is different in Open Source Gralloc but if you want to go deeper into this you may ask a Developer.

Test HALO PA build?

Hey guys, need this PA build tested. Built from source for m7ul using CM's source so thanks go to them. As always, flash at your own risk, im not responsible, etc. It should be perfectly fine though. Make sure things like data, camera, wifi, in call voice, etc work please. Also boot to recovery and make sure all seems well.

If anyone knows how to bypass this, please help, I'm guessing changing the build.prop in the zip probably won't work

Probably have to open up the update script and remove the asset get prop bit at the beginning.

I will test this when I get home tonight--64 gig M7 Developer Edition. And thank you very much for working on this, I have been waiting for someone to release a Paranoid Android ROM! I tried porting it myself, but it was always too buggy for a daily driver.

Add me on Hangouts if you have experience building for m7. I'm devving blind for now so I wouldn't mind some help.

Unfortunately I did not notice the rom was for the GSM version until I got home--I tried it anyways; I had obvious issues flashing it, given it was for the wrong device, but I got it to work. After flashing the rom it would crash after 10-30 seconds of use.
Now this part may or may not help: I took your build and the M7 version of CM10 and ported the rom over. I was able to get it to boot but continued to crash after the same amount of time.

I have very basic experience building for M7, so we might be in the same boat. I am more than happy to help you with anything I can though.
@m3dd0g and @melando
You guys could probably be of quite a bit of assistance to @slick_rick with this. Would you guys mind helping out? Understand if your too busy.
