plz help anyone....
how to root green lens, which is the best stable rom

There are many stable ROMs for green lense Defy, but which ROM is the "best" depends on your personal preferences. If you back up your system using 2ndInit Recovery, it's easy to try out new ROMs and revert back to your old configuration whenever you want. (You can also use 2ndInit to overclock, but I wouldn't recommend messing with those settings until you're sure you know what you're doing. If you're not careful, you could fry your CPU.)
Before doing anything to your phone, I'd recommend reading the "All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide" by Zephyrot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
That explains how to root your phone, and also provides some important information that you should know before you begin messing with custom ROMs. After you've rooted your phone, I'd recommend that you backup all your apps and settings with Titanium Backup (available on the Android Market) before you do anything else.
Next, install the “2ndInit Recovery Installer” app, available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212
Run the app and install the custom recovery, then reboot the phone. The first time you reboot, the custom BootMenu will display. Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and the power button to select an option. Select Boot > Set Default > Normal > Go Back > Reboot System. After the phone has fully booted up, power it off and reboot again. If the custom recovery installed properly, a blue LED on the phone should briefly light up each time the phone reboots (while the Motorola logo is being displayed).
After you've installed the custom recovery, I'd strongly recommend backing up your entire system before installing any custom ROMs, so you can easily revert back to your stock configuration if needed. To do that, follow these steps: Turn off USB debugging on the phone (Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging), then power off the phone. Press the power button to turn the phone on again, and as soon as the blue LED lights up, press the volume down button. The custom BootMenu will display. Select Recovery > Custom Recovery > Backup and restore > Backup (all), and wait for the backup process to complete.
This will create a backup image of your entire system on the SD card. (It’s a lot like creating a “restore point” in a Windows computer.) If you ever want to return the phone to its present state, just go into custom recovery again and select Recovery > Custom Recovery > Backup and restore > Restore (system & data), then select the system image that you’ve created. It’s a good idea to back up your entire system like this from time to time.
Now you can start trying out custom ROMs. I really like CyanogenMod 7, but MIUI and GreenBreadMod are also very popular. Try them out and see which you like best.
If you want to try out CM7, see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
For GreenBreadMod, see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130656
There are also numerous versions of MIUI and many other ROMs that you might want to try. Search the forums.
Good luck!

Thnx buddy...one more quesn..will cm9 run stable on defy green lens?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

cm9 is not ready for use day by day.
it have many bugs not solved!
you can try cm7, ms2gynger, etc.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

Yeah, I'd guess CM9 won't be really functional and stable for a few more months. (The devs are working hard on it, though, and have made a lot of great progress.) The latest nightly builds of CM7 are very stable, and have a lot of cool features that aren't in the 7.1.0-11 build. At present there are (at least) three different nightly versions, with slightly different features:
Epsylon3's builds: http://defy.wdscript.fr/jordan-nightly/
Quarx's builds: http://ge.tt/#!/8rDd1nC
Maniac103's builds: https://github.com/maniac103/android_device_motorola_jordan/downloads#download_168103
Note: Many of the nightly builds do not include the kernel, so you have to flash the stable version first, before installing the nightly.

Thnx buddy...so i guess cm7 or cm7.1 will b best for me..as m into cool features.3d and speed...

I am on MS2Ginger 3.0 (green lens).I do not a single problem with it.

Ms2ginger....is it betr dan cm7??
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

WIUI 2.2.3 Stable (Gingerbread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161110
It really depends on your needs, but I've tried MS2ginger and multiple cm7 versions, but WIUI Gingerbread is the most polished of them all. I have the green lens and it works great.
All Ice Cream Sandwich roms are a little buggy right now, though CM9 and the WIUI ICS are progressing nicely.

Thnx dude...can u tell me wat is the camera clearity in ur current rom.stock sucks..my camera takes pics from 400 kb to 800 kb in size..

Help choosing ROM Orange San Francisco

Hi all, i bought Orange San Francisco few weeks ago, and now i am on stock ROM by Orange. (2.1 Enclair)
I wanted to ask other users what ROMs are recommended , and should i go for Froyo or Gingerbread?
My phone is Gen.1 and TFT screeen.
And also is Blade faster with custom ROM?
My two main reasons i wanna try custom rom are:
1. Moving apps to SD
2. Flash support
This is my first smartphone and i have never flashed a ROM before on phone, but i have read a lot about it and i think i understand WAY more than before.
Today i rooted my San Francisco, and i have
recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-blade-gen1 and RecoveryManager_v0.37b on my PC ... will copy them to SD using USB cabel.
But i need to know what ROM works good without bugs...
Any help is welcome , thx in advance
You should see a good speed improvement using a custom rom over the Eclair stock rom. I would go for one of the Gingerbread roms as they are the most up-to-date, and most seem pretty good for everyday use. Personally I use CyanogenMod7, but everyone has their own preference.
To install most of the gingerbread roms, you'll need to convert your phone to Gen 2. You can do that by following the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855
That will convert your phone to Gen 2 and install Clockwork in one go. After you've done that, you can install your chosen rom. Put the rom on your sdcard before you do the TPT so its ready to go. Once the TPT is finished, it will boot into Clockwork. From there you just navigate to "install zip from sdcard" using the vol+/vol- keys and use "home" to select, "back" to go back. Then pick "choose zip from sdcard" and navigate to the rom zip you put on earlier. Once its done, you just reboot your phone, and thats you. If you decide to go for Cyanogen, remember you also need to install the google apps (gapps) zip as well.
Ideally you need to change to gen 2 this can be found in this forum, this will allow you to install most new roms such as cyanogen mod 7.1.0, it's a good Rom to use.

Ginger stir fry is pretty fast and close to stock but recently stopped development I believe.
However CM7 is more advanced and offers more options and tools.
Both are running on the latest android kernel and offer android 2.3.7.
CM7 uses the ADW Launcher, GSF uses the stock launcher. Both are nice, just a matter of preference, although ADW offers more options.
If you fancy froyo more (android 2.2) there's a rom around, can't recall the name right now, check the zte blade rom forum.
CM7 runs quite fast and stable if you turn the setting down a notch (no animations, 16bit transparecy and some more in the adwlauncher).
There's a lot of support for the ZTE blade, here and on MoDaCo, but the key is trying a few things out.
Installing a new rom is childsplay so test a few out for a week or so to find one of your liking.
Don't forget to install the google apps package along with the rom (contains the market, gmail, goggles, etc.) and you can make a backupp of your apps with Titanium Backup, spares you a fresh download and install
Thx 4 reply i decided i will try CM 7.1 using guide on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1258855
I wanted to check nandroid.md5 BUT...

You just need an app that can check md5sum files, there are lots of others, I haven't tested them all. I didn't realise AFV isn't available in some countries.
Either that or you just need to open android terminal, or adb shell & type
Code:
md5sum -c /sdcard/image/nandroid.md5
I used MD5 Checker to check md5 of:
CM7.1 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs CyanogenMod 7.1 - all in one) and number in guide matched number i got in MD5 Checker.
But reading the flash guide it says i have to :
(long press on nandroid.md5 file, then Verify Nandroid Backup)
I dont have that option: Verify Nandroid Backup.
Also i try without doing that part, i just copied CM7.1 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs CyanogenMod 7.1), unzipped it and pressing volume + and menu button while power up, but my phone froze on green Android robot logo...
I just unplugged battery and it works normal again.

The Verify Nandroid Backup option is what its called in AFV. Other apps may not have that option or it may be called something different.
When you say it works normally again do you mean the TPT worked, or its just back the way it was? If its just back the way it was and the TPT did nothing, was the image folder on the root of your sdcard? Did you hold the menu and vol+ buttons and then press the power button, continuing to hold them for a few seconds?
If you did all of this and it hasn't changed anything, try with another sdcard if you have one. Some just don't seem to work for whatever reason.
back the way it was and the TPT did nothing...
But i was first holding power button, and then holding vol+ and menu buttons with power button.
I see that in same guide one person had same problem (stopped @ green Android logo).
I didnt put it in any folder just on SD card and unzipped, then Image folder was created with other sub-folders.

Sounds like you unzipped it ok, try it again holding menu and volume+ and then press power.

Download gen1 to gen2 (there is a download link in this section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855
Unzip the file and place the image ( the image is called image, not gen1 to gen2) on the root of your sd card (ideally it is best to do this on a pc)
Also download and place the Rom you wish to use on the root of your SD card (cyanogenMod 7.1.0 stable release works well) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297776
DO NOT UNZIP THE ROM at this stage.
Put the SD card back into the phone.
Power off the phone, hold menu & vol + (up) & power at the same time, you should see some green writing, wait until it is finished (well done your phone is now gen2)
You should now arrive at the clockwork recovery screen, if not power off the phone, then hold vol - (down) and power (together), clockwork will boot.
Now using clockwork recovery, clear data/factory reset, then install your rom from the zip, that is all there is to it, obviously you'll have to enter your login details to use the market and sync your contacts etc, but your phone should now be working.
Don't forget to make a nandroid backup.
Goodluck

That thread is really out of date though, the first post was last updated 3 months ago. The roms that those TPTs would install are much older than the current ones, and the partition sizes will be too small in some cases too. Much better to use the other TPT thread that's already been linked.
Ginger Stir fry is the best I have used simply because it is super fast and pretty close to the stock 2.3, as for flash I just downloaded a arm v6 last night and it works pretty well. cant link but if you search reddit for
"flash 10.3 for ARMv6"
There should be a thread.

you should go for GB
my favorite used to be GSF, based on ZTE beta 2.3.4 ROM
now I use Elite Blade, based on ZTE official 2.3.5 ROM
Here it is:

Vote for Cyanogenmod. Newest Android version, 2.3.7. I think it's pretty stable today. Why I think it's better than any other rom, is because it has so much features. Plus theming! Android looks ugly without themes, as you may have noticed!

I agree, CM is good. I only avoid CM because I want the ZTE dialler, where Google contact groups can be displayed in a separate tab.

[Q] How to root my defy?

Hi Guys,
I'm new to andriod, but getting bore with my stock defy rom, i want to root it, i had tried z4root, gingerbreak. Both doesn't work. Can you guys suggest a better way?
My defy: 2.2.2/EPU93_U_00.59.02/2.6.32.9-g0671d13
Please help me...
Try the newest version of super one click. Did you enable usb debugging n the settings?
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
Since your on froyo z4root and gingerbreak don't work anymore. Like gege0001 said use super one click latest version or if that doesn't work use version 2.11 and make sure usb debugging is on.
fuyoooo.... unbelievable, i just rooted my lovely defy with super one click 2.1!!! Splendid!
And, what shall i do next? How to install ROM? By ROM manager? Please advice....
What you looking to install miui or cyanogenmod???
ya, but how to instal cm or miui? Rom manager said I must have clockworkmod.....??
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
forget about rom manager for the moment
Have your files ready on your sd card before you start this. That is cm7 and gapps zip or miui zip.
Steps
1. Backup your apps using titanium backup root or mybackup root additional you can backup your contacts and messages by selecting data in mybackup root
2.Check usb debugging is on then download 2nd init from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1032212 and install the 2nd init recovery. It will ask the superuser permission Accept it. If the led light is green then 2ndinit was successfully installed.
3. Now Uncheck the USB debugging from Settings->Applications->Development and restart the phone now.
4.It will go in to bootmenu select 2nd init as default boot. Using the volume rocker to navigate and power button to select
5.Go back and click recovery -> Custom recovery ->* Wipe data/factory and Wipe cache and also go to advance and clear dalvik cache -> Install zip file from sd card(select the cm7 zip, repeat with the gapps zip) If it's miui no need to flash gapps
6. Reboot. Go to app drawer and start up the defy baseband switcher. select the appropriate baseband to achieve optimal reception.
Thanks to stewi21 for the original guide. If u need more help pm me or ask on the forums.
2nd time writing this guide today lool
Thanks Kayant,
But the 2nd init link was not found....
ANd need some claification, you said:
4.It will go in to bootmenu select 2nd init as default boot. Using the volume rocker to navigate and power button to select....
Does it mean that everytime i restart my phone it will go to the bootmenu?
and i'm only don't really understand about 6. Reboot. Go to app drawer and start up the defy baseband switcher. select the appropriate baseband to achieve optimal reception. Just doing one time for this?
sorry about that the first time you install it it will go to 2ndinit when the blue led is on. The next time to go to 2nd init you click down on the volume rocker when the you see the blue led.
6. Reboot. Go to app drawer and start up the defy baseband switcher. select the appropriate baseband to achieve optimal reception. Just doing one time for this?
I don't usually need to do that as mine is usually on the right one. Not all roms come with it but bascially it's to choose the right frequency for your phone to get the best signal in your country. If it's not on the right one i heard battery life is not as good but don't worry too much about this if you don't see it in your app drawer then don't worry it's probably on the right one
Hi kayant, can you resend the link?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Just download the apk and use the 1.0.7 version in the 2ndinit menu

[ROM] [CM7] AceOSP

AceOSP is the only FULLY-WORKING AOSP ROM based upon CM7. It's the pure Google experience. Nothing added. Nothing taken away. And it's free to download!
Wait a minute. If this is based upon CM7, then how can it be AOSP?
Allow me to explain. All CyanogenMod tweaks are removed. If you can find any UI remains of CyanogenMod, I will pay you. [not literally, just tell me via PM and I'll fix the issue]
Why base it on CM7 when you could compile from AOSP?
In AOSP ROMs, there are recurring issues, such as the brightness/sounds issues and some hardware issues. CM7 works fully, so I based it upon that and removed CM7 traces.
Now, there IS an issue. This ROM is based on CyanogenMod. The notification power widget was enabled by default. So what I did was turn all tweaks off before I removed CMParts.apk. The data that controls if that appears or not is in the userdata. And I can't figure out how to make an update.zip restore to some userdata. So I've packaged the ROM into a ClockworkMod Nandroid backup. So for now, you'll have to restore to a Nandroid backup.
(Download the zip, extract it, and then find the nandroid_AceOSP folder that is made - copy that to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, reboot into recovery, choose backup and restore -> restore, and then find nandroid_AceOSP, select it, when done, reboot)
Bugs
- Factory resetting in any means will restore the Notification power widget and CyanogenMod's 'Ring' lockscreen. To do a factory reset, restore from the backup again.
- Changing volume, brightness or accessing battery use causes settings to FC. Changing the former two using other methods, like volume buttons and power control seems to work fine.
Download Link
Click here to download AceOSP 1.0
Update AceOSP
You must update to the version NEXT to yours.
For example, if you are running 1.0, and you want to go to 1.0.2, you must install 1.0.1 first
1.0 -> 1.0.1
1.0.1 changes the bootanimation from CM7's to Android's default. Get it here!

It is not aosp.
I'm sure it is - CyanogenMod is AOSP with tweaks. This ROM is based upon S5830's CyanogenMod, but with the tweaks removed. Thus doesn't that make this AOSP?
Userdata.img = same as data.img , can be used with dsixda's Android Kitchen .
The people who don't compile.....I feel so.....alone and isolated .
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
Then it'll be a non functioning cyanogenmod, not aosp rom.
Unlock delay still there. Battery percentage still jumpy. A really clean aosp will not be like that, in fact it'll be similar in function to all cyanogenmod roms.

[Q] ducks in a row for CM9?

Thinking of trying CM9 on my defy ^^
My specs - Defy - red lense - running Wajk's ICS/GB Hybrid...
Stock was Froyo 2.2.x
Files I have for CM9 -
*CM7_Kernel-signed.zip
*CM9-NIGHTLY-120406-Defy.zip
*gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip
From what I've read I can't go from Wajk's Hybrid ICS/GB rom to this...
Figure I'd just restore my stock 2.2.x nandroid before the CM9 install...
Q's:
1. How can I back up my current kernel (2.2.x) for future use, if I want to get back to my other custom nandroids? (do I even need to back up my kernel??)
2. & if I want to return to MIUI -=or=- ICS/GB Hybrid - what steps would I need to follow?
PS - I have the following stock sbf's if I need them...
are they suitable for Plan-B?
*JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_177-003_BLUR
*JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-33-1
*JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-36-1
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The release keys in the SBF names are hurting my eyes.
The kernel consists of boot.img, devtree.img and recovery.img
Just do a full backup and you can do advance restore and do boot devtree and recovery manually.

Just installed as per any other rom ^^
Working fine...
tried to change governor from on demand to smart ass via recovery... Caused b/l stuck mode!
If & when it gets themes & fixed video camera it will be a keeper.
King_Rat on tap
What are benefits/ pitfalls of using CM7 kernel?
TIA
King_Rat on tap
Tried the CM7 kernel... plus other CM7 based boot & dev trees via advanced recovery, they make video record worse! Screen is all rippled like still water that has had a pebble dropped in it, video capture then locks up just like before. Otherwise no notable differences...

[Q] Multiboot CM7.2 and Miui or Ms2Ginger

Hi, a noob here
I have a green lense (SOC) Defy with CM7.2.
I have tried a CM7.2 and CM9 multiboot, it worked really well apart from my unSIMlock. It didn't work for my CM9 then it messed up my CM7.2 unlock aswell, i had a nandroid backup though, so i restored.
Anyway, how can a multiboot CM7.2 as main ROM and have either Ms2Ginger or MIUI/WIUI v4 as my secondary, is it the same procedure, or is there some diferences. I really want a second ROM, but I don't want to brick my phone, even if it is nearly impossible to brick it.
I have a Samsung 16GB microSD class 10 if that helps.
Thanks
Will
so no-one will help me then

Hi, I have the same defy that you do.
You should be good to go, just install the latest multi boot zip, reboot, then either extract the fsimages zip from the first post into the multiboot folder on your sd, or even easier, download the latest multiboot manager, hit menu, then create vfs. Reboot, you'll see a new menu.... choose cwm recovery, select your vfs and install it. When you reboot just choose the one you want, no fuss no muss
