I have an extended battery (1500mah) vs the OEM 1300mah. I run MIUI and Incredikernel. I was getting good battery life. My phone was lasting all day up until the about 2 weeks ago. I havent changed ROM's or kernels for well over a month.
My battery now on a good day will go 10 hours or so and be totally drained.
Just wondering what it could possibly be? The only thing I can think of is I added PlayerPro and have a widget on one screen and I put about 4-5Gbs of music on my SD Card. That is all I have changed.
Anyone have a clue? I may consider switching kernels.
Hard to say, but I would suspect a rogue app...have you tried system panel or watchdog to see how long apps run in the background?

I've also noticed that with the latest CM's battery life is an issue for me. Ive got KoR roms to last almost two full days but cm is dead within 20 hours.
My battery life has changed as well and I now have to keep my travel charger and car charger with me at all times or suffer with a dead phone.
i had been running rc3 with the 8-19 kernel, and my battery life was similar to stock, but the combination of latest CM and wildmonks are just killing me... i think im going to go back to rc3 with the 8-19 kernel.
Check the active processes. You can't drain the battery in 8 hours unless you have a process stuck, using 100% CPU constantly (possibly Exchange?).
good thought, but im not an exchange user... i cant seem to isolate the issue. im going to do a full wipe and try stock to see if maybe i have a bad battery.
People with battery life issues should try Enom's ROM with a wildmonks kernel. I'm 18 hours in of a full charge and I'm at 76%. That's normal use with full screen brightness, wifi and gps, quite a few background updating apps, etc.
Over 50% of power usage should be the display under even moderate usage.
With wifi, push, and poll active, the battery drop per hour with the screen off should be less than 1%.
If it's higher than that, you need to find the rogue process or get rid of an automatic task killer.

Display is most of my usage with over 50% every time. I have one app that auto updates in the background, Twitter, and thats every half hour. I do have 3g on but with wireless on most of the time. GPS, Autosync, and Auto-Brightness is on. I play one game twice a day, World War, once in the morning, once at night, but both times are usually on the charger.
Now that I think about it, Im a part of latitude but maps/latitude never consume battery according the about>battery.
Either way CM6 full charge starting at 4am, with light-moderate use, will be dead at like 5pm. I can go almost 2 days on a single charge of KoR rom. Enoms rom I have tried and lasts a full day +some...

I have the same issue and have had it since RC2. I can deal with it since I have the desktop dock at work, the car dock, and two wall chargers at home. The drain is pretty noticeable -- after about 30 minutes of the phone being off the charger and left alone with screen off, the battery charge is at 94% with "Display" using 65% of that. Wifi/BT/GPS off.
Like I said, it's not a big deal right now because I have chargers everywhere, but it's really annoying. I'm still searching for the fix, but if I can't find it, back to MCR for me.
I tried CM for 1 week and I must say the extra glitters is not worth the poor battery life., only lasted 1 day if used moderately. I just switched back to FRF91 Stock Rom today, lasts me 2days if used moderately. Longivity of the battery is another long term concern people should think about. I still miss my modded dialpad with big buttons, cool trackball colors and many more, CM is such a TEASE!
What kind of battery life are people getting with Pershoot's latest? It's undervolted, so it should do pretty well.

Tried Enom? I've seen zero difference in battery life, perhaps slightly better, since switching to it from stock Froyo on my N1.
In the battery use screen, what's draining the battery with the screen off? Let the phone drain like 10% with the screen off the entire time after unplugging.
several recent nighties and cm6.0.0 seem to have something broken.. Four hours of standby after full charge and the battery level already @ 83%.
cell standby 32%; idle 29%; display (wtf was turned off all the time) 28%.
Drains twice as fast compared to older CM roms..
The LEDs are also considered the Display by the battery meter.
Still, 17% in four hours is enormous. I guess I'll have to hold off on CM6 until they sort this out.
Dicks! 4% battery drain in one hour with almost no use, and that's after flashing pershoot's undervolted kernel. No way.
I'm going to try wildmonk's kernel now. :/
I'm curious what everyone's battery life is. I unplugged at 8 this morning and it died my 2 this afternoon. It's a fairly clean install.
I'm running CM7-RC1 with the bundled kernel (no SBC). Normal 998 Hz on SetCPU. The only extra apps that I have running are TweetDeck (update every 15 minutes), Extended Controls and mClock (widget updaters). My battery life used to be decent but has plummeted the past 3 weeks.

Tons of info about battery life spread around the forums (tweaks, tips, etc.) You won't be able to compare yours with someone else because so many different factors can impact battery life.
First things I would do is flash a different kernel and wait 2-3 days before judging and see if things improve. I would also wipe battery stats and run battery all the way down until dead 3 consecutive times (unless battery is new, then no need for this). I know there will be peeps come in here and say "Li-ion batteries have no memory. That is pointless." However, there is a chip with memory but not like Ni-Cad. The battery manufacturers recommend doing this procedure to somewhat "reset" the battery if it gets to a certain condition.
Also, go through your settings again and make sure battery draining settings are turned off.
I have noticed before with flashing different roms that my battery would drain really quickly with different roms and settings they have done to the rom. Try and reflash and use calk flash all zip he has made for the evo community. Also run it twice then run the one in the recovery you have again just to make sure you have a good format first. Then check out the battery life again and hopefully it was just a bad flash.
Out of curiosity, do roms have an effect on battery life? Seriously, I can't make it past 8-10 hours on any of the roms that I've tried. (apex and liberty) This problem is pretty annoying...

I don't think so.
Is this a new phone? I ask, because I think we all play with our new phones quite heavily. I too have days where I barely hit 8 hours because of all the usage. Then I have also had sessions of 18 hours because of little use.
Have you tried undervolting? It might buy you a little more juice. Then perhaps look into an extended life battery.
Otherwise, how often your apps sync can affect battery life. Some apps can be configured to sync only when wifi is on. Live wallpapers can be a drain, as can some widgets or having alot of widgets running.
You should give JuiceDefender a try:
http://latedroid.com/juicedefender
I have yet to try it, but I've had friends recommended it.
Obviously, be sure to read reviews on it.
My battery in my Defy is the worst battery i've ever had. I Changed every rom but the battery drain was giant. With no use 21h exactly, with no sim inserted, no wifi, no use at all, but with some wifi and maybe 2h of screen on battery is gone in 5-6h.. I tried to calibrate battery for many times, changed basebands, changed roms, but there is no diference... Can someone help me?
Did u try something like battery monitor widget (like guy who get 6 days run defy!) Maybe u see what drains your battery.

it happens to me to when i started changing roms.
just calibrate the battery and keep using it for a while, lets say 2 weeks.
it becomes more stable.
at least that happen to me give it a try
For me was more or less the same with Stock Android 2.2 and CM7.1, but with CM7.2-nightly-12042011 I got 2 days and 9 hours as record. I just did a clean install followed by a battery recalibration. I heard this is/was the best ROM for the battery issues. Did you try that one?
in Android u cant expect an exceptional battery backup when u use it regularly..u can get a max backup of 25-30 hours for moderate use and 40-45 hours in complete standby
Avoid using apps which will refresh very often (twitter, Facebook etc) then u may get more juice
SGS Vibrant flashed with Trigger 3.2 the battery lasts for 1 day with wifi usage and even if kept for overnight it drains about 18-20% of battery should i move to a different ROM ?
You could
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Trigger has had one of the best all time battery life for me a everytime.
I think you need to
A) recalibrate
B) re-check to see if any apps are using battery life.
C) flash a rom if none of that works.
Here we go again for the millionth time.....
But for me trigger had the best battery life.
I'm not on the gingerbread roms and it takes me from 100% to 5% in 8 hours overnight even WITH Juicedefender (seems to be about the same without it also).
If anyone has tips on THAT, I would much appreciate it. I've tried calibrating the battery.
There is a setting that you can turn your radios of from x time to x time overnight. I have mine set for 11-6. If I am on after 11, then I take priority. If not then the setting does.
There is also a setting that will open data/radio every 15m/30m/45m/1h/2h or something like that to get updates for somethings (i.e. Beautiful Widgets). I have mine set at 2h. If I want my data/radio open I will do it myself, hence my long interval.
Been using this app for well over a year so I know how to tweak it a bunch. If you have JD+ see my battery guide and it will tell you more about its tweakiness.
Trust me. This guy knows how to use JD, check out his battery guide. It will be worth your time.

i wish i could get my phone to last a whole day without charging, i just dont complain because i know for a FACT that the reason my phone only lasts 10-12 hours is because of ME. im too stubborn and refuse to switch to battery-friendly usage. the biggest thing that impacts battery is the user/user apps. not rom, not kernel, the battery difference from rom-to-rom and kernl-to-kernel is barely noticeable (unless in the rare case where there is a bug, or developmental defect). if there was ACTUALLY a rom in exsistence that TRULY had superior battery life, then you wouldnt get 5-10 different answers in every single "what is best rom/kernel for battery" thread.
the problem is, people want to believe that they can save battery without changing their usage habits. this simply is not possible. no rom or kernel will realistically do this for you. if you remove 1 brick from a bag full of 15 bricks, the bag will be lighter, but still very heavy. you need to download "spare parts" or "process monitor" from the market and start analyzing the way your apps are acting. also look into data syncs that are happening in the background. apps that stay open behind your back/what they are doing, (an app called "autostarts" can prevent apps from self-running under certain scenarios). animation speed. polling for notifications. gps. wifi scans. overclocking. cpu/ram usage. proper sleep. widgets. brightness. 2g/3g. data usage. call time. text volume. - THESE are the things that really affect your battery life.
bottom line is, if you truly want to save battery you are going to have to get your hands dirty...there simply isnt a one-click (or one-flash) solution.
Hmm so i'm now on MIUI and it seems to be giving better battery life, also have been thinking of getting the extended battery for Vibrant is it worth ?
If it sucks so bad, grab one of these. I have it and it has given me at least a 20% increase in battery life. BTW, you must listen to the instruction for the Battery if you get it. 4 or 5 full Drains to 0% and then charge to 100% while device is powered off and re-calibrate after each of these full charge cycles.

What about the extended battery which is around 3500Mah
I just got the 1800 mah batteries for the Epic 4g. They fit in the vibrant like a glove and my battery life has been significantly lengthened.
