Unable to detect wifi network on Arc - Xperia Arc General

Hi,
I have been using the Arc since last Apr/May. In this time, I have been frustrated with the phone inability to detect a secure network that does not broadcast its SSID. This network is my work place's secure network. The wifi network parameters were set up on my phone by work place IT support staff. The curious thing is that it detects my home wifi network instantaneously and I have no issues with it remaining locked onto my home network. My home networked is secured using WPA-PSK. The work place network is secured using PEAP (802.1x EAP).
Anyone knows how I can get the phone to detect the network? My colleagues iPhones (3GS, 4 or 4S) have absolutely no issues detecting and locking onto the network anywhere at our workplace premises. My phone can't even detect the network in the IT support hub where the router is standing in front of me!!!
I'm due for an upgrade for phone and I intend to keep the current Arc as backup and get a new phone using the upgrade voucher. I am therefore considering the Arc S since I like the Arc very much... so whether I get the Arc S finally depends on whether I can solve this issue or not with your help...
Thanks!

Check if your workplace Wifi broadcast channel is set to 12 or 13. If this is the case it is a problem with the regulatory domain on our firmwares which is set to limit the wifi channels to only 11 (legal stuff in america bahhh).
I have detected this issue when I bought the arc S, 3 months ago and so far I haven't found any solution for this, using the stock firmware.
The good news is using custom firmwares I can see all the 13 channels, so its not an hardware limitation!

Wierd Wifi issue

Hello all,
I have a nexus s 9020t with stock 2.3.4.
I have been in an office building that has 2 Wifi networks, one for each company.
With my PC I can see both networks, the one for the company I am visiting is a very strong signal and I can connect to it without a problem, the second company is a weak signal.
With my nexus s however, I can only see the weak Wifi, it won't even show the strong signal in the Wifi networks list (and one of the access points for it is right on top of me), I tried both with the stock Wifi setting and with Wifinder.
Other smartphones such as the iPhone have no problem in seeing both networks and connecting to the one with the strong signal.
Any idea why is that?
And do you think we will ever get a fix that boosts the phone's Wifi strengh? (or is there one?) kinda annoying having poor reception when people with iPhones etc... have a good recepotion to the same network.
I had some issues with wpa encryption and networks not showing up on my nexus. Changed the network to wep and the issue went away.

This was an open network on which you need to login via the browser after you connect.
What ROM are you on. CM7 has many legacy wifi support built in. It would be that if you're on stock is missing proper support for certain channel/frequency (wifi is not all exactly 2.4mhz).
Also, CM7 you can set up to 14 channels that you can use.

Major WiFi connection issue

Hi
I've had a search in the forums but haven't seen any other posts re. this but wondered if anyone had any ideas?!
Basically I'm having problems connecting to some networks with my Tab 10.1 (stock, updated OTA to the latest TouchWiz UX last week).
I first had a problem last week when I took the device into work - there's an 802.1x EAP network there but it wouldn't even show up in the network list. My SGS2 connects to it without an issue.
Then when I got home tonight (after happily using it at my parents' house during the day) I found it wouldn't connect to my home WiFi (hidden SSID, WPA2). It had connected to this network fine in the past, but now was just sitting showing it as 'not in range' network. At first I thought it might be a router issue (it used to be a little flaky), but then I saw that my iPod and SGS2 were both connecting and working on it without a hitch.
I couldn't see the network at all in WiFi Analyzer (similarly to at work), although it was showing my neighbours' WiFi networks fine. I tried deleting the saved entry and telling the router to broadcast the SSID but it still wouldn't work.
I then put on my WiFi hotspot on my SGS2 (also a previously remembered connection) and it worked absolutely fine!
Does anyone have any ideas where to go next apart from doing a full reset? (which although not the end of the world would be quite a pain).
Thanks for any suggestions/tips!
OK, bit the bullet and restore my device to factory settings - it STILL can't see my home WiFi, despite my SGS2, laptop and iPod all connecting to it fine. It is however showing up two networks belonging to neighbours and also my SGS2 if I put it in WiFi hotspot mode!
Any suggestions folks??
Sounds like a route issue, did you reboot the router? Is the router on a channel below 12?
Hi thanks for the reply!
I actually just spotted a post at http://www.thegalaxytabforum.com/index.php?/topic/5511-my-wifi-no-longer-works/ with the same issue.
It looks like Samsung have mucked something up when they made the Touchwiz UX update - it now blocks WiFi channels 12 upwards, when the old stock Honeycomb firmware didn't do this. I'd moved my router onto 13 to reduce congestion and I guess the work one must be on 12/13 too.
I can see from the table at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels that 12/13 are only allowed under low-power conditions in the USA, but this isn't the case elsewhere so they shouldn't have locked it down outside of the USA.
This also happend to me

As I had setup an additional router in my house (with assigned a high numbered -or so i thought- fixed IP address) for some reason my main router tryied unseccesfully to assign the same IP to my SGT as the router. This had obviously conflicts and could not log in.
Went into the router eliminated the fixed IP address and voilá! it got working again, all IP a dinamic!!

Looking for a way to block specific WiFi signals.

I live very close to a hotel which has multiple SSID's that keep interfering with my ability to stay connected to my router.
I've tried hard coding a static ip on the phone, adding the mac address to router, even went as far as creating a separate unhidden network just for the phone. So far, nothing has worked.
So i was thinking that maybe there's a way to have the phone ignore certain signals, lock on to a preferred one or use WiFi but turn off the scanning feature. The only problem is that I haven't been able to find any settings or Apps that will allow me to do it.
So, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions as how, or if, I can make this work, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm using a Droid 2 Rooted with 2.3.3 and have a Netgear N750 router.
BTW - none of the computers in the house are having this issue.

So, are you saying the phone constantly tries to leave your home wifi in favor of attempting to connect to the hotel's?
Yes, unless I'm within about 5 feet of my router, the hotel's signal makes the phone keep dropping and reconnecting over and over again.

Are the hotel's hotspots not WEP secured? That is so odd. If they're unsecured hotspots go over to the hotel and tell them to get their sh*t in order. Otherwise I'm out of ideas, sorry.
No, they are secure. WPA2 as is mine. I don't connect to them. My phone just detects them, drops my connection and tries to connect to them. So that leaves me with no connection and having to use 3G.
But there may be an easier solution to this. After spending a few hours on the Netgear site, it turns out that there is a bug in their firmware that causes signal strength fluctuations. They said a new release should be available in a few weeks.
In the meantime I've changed the channel on the router to auto select which seems to be helping.
I do appreciate you taking the time to assist.
Thanks!
Scott

Glad there's at least some kind of work around, wish I was of more assistance.
Having a similar problem with a samsung galaxy sii - current internet configuration is through AT&T U-Verse with built in Wireless G router in there Gateway. tried adding a Netgear dual band N router to my network and with the netgear's 2 wifi signals on then my phone just constantly goes into scanning mode and keeps trying to connect between the 3 - things work fine with the wifi turned off in the new netgear kind of defeating the purpose of me installing it - was hoping to have the phone use one of the N signals..
Block bt openzone connection pleaseee!
Desperately need an app for this? Is it not going to be possible for a way to block certain wifi signals because I'm actually going to rip next doors BT openzone router out of the wall and get a hammer to it! My HTC desire hd is insistent on connecting to its poor signal over our excellent one and the worst part is that you can't actually access the network unless you pay BT for a user account! Grrrr.... Please help
Try to connect the network you dont want, then go to wifi management in settings. Long press on the network you dont want and hit forget network. Then your phone shouldnt automatically connect to it unless you tell it to.

It's your router, not your phone(s). Can't believe you haven't considered the common factor.
There's nothing wrong with the WiFi on these phones. Hence you can't find answers to problems that don't exist...

I have no problem with wifi whenever I change new mobile phone . In your case you can try resetting your router.
I have reset the router and like I said in my earlier post, the problem was not just in my house with my wifi, its every wifi we have tried in different places all over
There isn't nearly enough data here to make any sort of assessment.
-Have you tested your connection settings from the phone? Try something like Speed Test to see if it can establish a connection.
-Does Wi-Fi stay connected or does it drop in and out? Does the Wi-Fi icon change to being grayed out? Does it turn itself off under your settings?
-Have you tried changing the connection type on the router? WPA2 to WEP, etc...
-Have you verified that the network is broadcasting an Internet connection from another device?
-Can you see the phone on your network from a computer?
-Have you tried pinging an IP address from your phone?
More than likely it's a DNS or DHCP issue. But I don't want to recommend any troubleshooting methods until the problem has been isolated.

Every device in the house works fine on the network. I play xbox live all the time with no problems. No lagging whatsoever.the phones will connect to the network and look like it's always connected to the network but will not load any pages or any thing.one off the network, it works fine.thus is the only device that has ever not worked in my network

I have the same issue. I have had the phone for a month with no issues. The last couple of days, I can't stay connected to any wifi either. It has happened on multiple routers in multiple locations.
I have updated my router firmware (although it happens on all wifi routers). I get a connection, then it disconnects, finds the wifi again, and reconnects...over and over again.
Something is up.
Did a factory reset...wiped everything to start over again...didn't help.

[Q] How to share phone WiFi with an Internet Radio

Hi Guys,
Firstly, I hope this is posted in the correct section.
Secondly, My name is Mark, and I've followed this site/forum for a few years now, and have successfully rooted 2 old phones (HTC Nexus One & HTC One S) thanks to all the information and guides right here on xda-developers.
Thirdly, is my issue: (the back-story) [tried, tested & failed alternatives]
At work, we've recently invested in a WiFi Internet Radio, to take advantage of the tens of thousands of stations compared to the 20 or so offered on DAB/FM. Getting it connected to the internet however has been a struggle.
The offices Wired & Wireless LAN networks are locked by a pin, which nobody knows, or will give out, this network is for official business use only, by the companies own equipment. Also network tabs in the computers control panel are blocked, so these pins are completely unobtainable. There is a WiFi hotspot nearby, this is setup and ran by "The Cloud" (aka Sky). When we try to connect to this network directly from the radio, it asks for a pin, however to use these hot spots you have to register a username & password on a browser to be granted access, again, not possible with the radio. 3G/4G is very limited in the building due to the location of the building, and (we think) a chrome window tint that runs all the way around the building, We've tried, the radio can find and connect to the phone, but the phone can't connect to the internet via 3g. Even if 3g was good, it'd be very data consuming to be running radio over portable WiFi hotspot for 52 hours a week.
So what I want to do, if it's possible, is to share my WiFi connection (to the hotspot) over WiFi or USB (to the radio), using my phone as a WiFi repeater/modem in between. Or perhaps there's another alternative I've missed? I'm not overly sure on the ins and outs of usb modems and other networking hardware.
The phone is a Sony Xperia Z2 (currently not rooted, but willing to root if needs be to make this work)
The radio is a Roberts Stream 93i (has WiFi, ethernet & USB)
And in case anyone mentions, there is a STRICT ban on phones, ipods (and anything that connects to the internet) due to the confidential nature of our work, if this wasn't the case we'd just of bought a pair of speakers and streamed the internet radio on our phones.
Thanks for your help, I've been searching high & low for 3 straight days now!

is the radio for the employees to enjoy, or is it being hooked into the building for customer/clients?
if it could be considered to the benefit of customers/clients, just get in touch with IT and see if they have a solution for you. (creating an exception on the netowrk for the radio, maybe?)
If you are simply trying to fly under the radar, and get the thing running, then it sounds like you might be out of luck.
so, you are saying plugging it into an ethernet port, it won't obtain access to the net?
plugging it into a known working port, it also won't work?
you could, try bringing in your own wifi router, plugging that into an open ethernet port (wan) and then see if it grabs net through that.
as i read your previous post, it leads me to believe that there is a PIN you need to input for WIFI & LAN... kind of strange for LAN
