The damn automatic key lock...

Just got my vibrant today and it auto locks almost immediately. Does anyone have a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

It's under settings->sound and display... 1 minute works great and under the appliactions->Development you can also set it so that it doesn't turn off while plugged into USB (charging). That was a god send when I rooted and put the deodexed ROM on.

Get NoLock from the market.

Yes, nolock. An essential item. I pity all the regular people that don't go on forums with these phones, Samsung and Android are really going to alienate a lot of them. I suppose regular people go for the iphone though so maybe I don't have a point after all.

There is an awesome app called LockDelay that allows you to screen-off your phone after whatever time you specify, and then it will automatically lock it after yet another time you specify.
I HIGHLY recommend it, it really allows you to secure your phone and save your battery by turning that screen off.

Just sold a Vibrant in my T-Mobile store today. My rep was showing the customer hers and the customer asked her opinion, he also noticed I had one (I'm the store manager) so I walked over and struck up some conversation to close the deal. As I scrolled through the screen he noticed the XDA app icon and inquired about it. I gave him a few pointers and explained he should joined because there's a wealth of knowledge to be found on these forums. I've found having that little app installed on my phone, as well as our Android live demos is a nice way to introduce customers and new Android owners to XDA.

stock phone is very good. but after customizing, it becomes a whole different android experience.

Side note, its amazing that I could make the jump from blackberry an transition to the vibrant, can u think of 2 more different phones.

They are two very different phones, but as someone works in the industry, my opinion is that RIM hasn't helped themselves by keeping the Berry in the "stone age." Don't get me wrong. I understand they still have a strong following and a huge success in the business market, but Android is catching up and can be used just as well if you have the right phone. Glad you made the jump and the transition is going well.

Screen is now turning on instantly!

Today I noticed that, out of the blue, my screen is now turning on instantly!
I no longer have to wait 2 seconds for it to turn on when I press the volume rocker with widget locker.
I didn't change any widget locker settings, or settings on my phone. I was just wondering if anybody else had this happen.
Now my only problem with the phone is the WIFI disconnects every couple minutes.

What did you do to get this instant screen on?! Things didn't happens magically, please review your latest actions on your phone, this might help several users!

Since I noticed the difference, I haven't downloaded or uninstalled any new apps, but I did do my daily updates of my current apps.
I didn't go into my settings... I DID do a full backup of apps and data using TiB.
Nothing else to note really...

It's so quick, I press the volume rocker, and move my thumb to my slider to unlocked it and I don't have to wait. One constant motion.

Please tell me you're not teasing us. That would be cruel....

because it's related scrub. As noted in another thread, screen refresh was somehow linked to a sytem process rescanning the sd card for media everytime the screen was turned on. learn to search the forums, before flaming.

You need an att tethering plan to use webtop.... I don't know what you are talking about. There is a reason why xda is becoming more and more irrelevant as time goes on and developers are choosing a different website. It's people like you guys who just need to one up other posters who are causing this. There are some great people on here, then there are you guys. That's the reason why the rootzwiki is becoming the new standard. Oh and I should sell my atrix cause I asked a question about webtop? That clearly means I have no idea what I'm doing right? That's a joke but thanks for the suggestion

I have read that webtop should work when you are on wifi, but that's just what I've heard since I don't use it. If you're trying to use it while on AT&T's data network then, yes, you need tethering but there are tethering and webtop hacks galore in the "noob" thread that is stickied at the top of the "General" forum.

Also, try not to take anything personally. This is an internet forum, just let it roll off your back.

Just looked over the sticky and it has a link to a cwm installable webtop file that I already have. Nothing about disabling att from verifying the tethering plan required to use the webtop on 3G. Webtop works fine on wifi... And before gingerbread, there used to be a way to get it to work without a tethering plan. That is why I asked this "n00b" question that nobody seems to have an answer for.

Have you tried the "Entitlement" mod (enabling tethering)? It should be the one right above or below the Webtop link.

Also, like I've said, you can't take things personally on the internet, but if I can give some advice. Try to be more descriptive in your comments especially when starting an entire thread. Include things like what "mods" you have already used, and maybe include what ROM you're using and what resources you have already searched through for answers, you could even go as far as describing the steps you are using when encountering the issue. All of this helps the rest of us help you. Your original post "looks" like a "noob" question and that's like blood in the water for the sharks.

OP asked a valid question and didn't deserve to be noob-bashed. I have the same issue. I have done the "entitlement" hack using the SQLLite Editor to set the "Entitlement Check" field to "0", and I am able to use my Atrix as a mobile hotspot without a tethering plan.
However, when I attempt to use Firefox on the Lapdock while connected via 3G (WiFi off), a popup appears saying "Verifying AT&T account status for webtop...". Then, after a few seconds, it fails and another dialog pops up saying "The Firefox browser requires a Wi-Fi connection or appropriate data plan. Please use Wi-Fi or call AT&T Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500 to add the appropriate data plan to your account"
Any help would be appreciated.

Try this and see if it works. Make sure you have done the entitlement hack and while connected to the webtop turn on the mobile hotspot on your phone and then go into your networks and choose the tether apn.
I tried something in that nature and was browsing firefox on my phones data. I'll try again in the morning and see if that's what I did.

Is it considered tethering if instead of using the full browser firefox, that requires a tethering plan, to instead use a browser (such as Dolphin HD) INSIDE of the phone module app on the webtop... since it's actually using your phone's apps instead of firefox?

Thanks dmbrown81, that totally worked! I still get the nagging messages from the Webtop about needing a tethering plan, but if I just turn on WiFi Tethering while the phone is docked, Firefox will work fine! Brilliant!

You might try turning off the "Mot mobile device extensions" addon and see what happens.

Obviously that would never be detected, but ATT does consider it tethering. Total BS if you ask me, all the doc is is an external screen/keyboard/pad/battery, it is in no way a seperate system.

The odd thing is that while using a StarHub prepaid sim in Singapore on my unlocked ATT Atrix it doesn't do that check, only when I use my ATT sim.

Thanks everyone for suggesting the "hotspot" trip. I am curious as to why this needs to be done is we are using the entitlement hack. Does anyone know why this is or is the just the way to get around having to pay twice for data? Also, have you guys noticed a big hit in your battery life when using the hotspot tethering? I'm just happy that this solution works because I got the lapdock just for this reason.

There is something in the ATT firmware that recognizes when the phone is using an ATT sim and disables data connections to the webtop environment. The whole time I was in Singapore using a StarHub Green prepaid sim my phone never did that "Verifying account blablablah..." when I docked the phone in my LapDock, as soon as I docked it I could start using Firefox.
An interesting note: the phone disables all data connections for a moment when it does this check. I noticed it because Pandora died on me one day when I was listening and I docked my phone. I watched the connectivity arrows on the H+ icon the next time I docked my phone and they went away for a few seconds just as that toaster notification popped up. Even with the Entitlement Mod this happens.
Hotspot tethering will kill your battery life, although that battery life is augmented by the lapdock. I'm pretty sure you can turn tethering off once you've started up Firefox and are browsing away. Don't ask me how I know, a little bird told me.
No, using apps inside the phone view isn't considered tethering. You can use the stock browser inside there without doing anything. If att calls using a non-stock browser tethering, pitch a fit and tell them to piss up a rope.
And regarding my snark earlier: I think a lot of the people who have been here for a while get tired of seeing threads like "Can I haz root on my phone OMG I'm a noob" when we remember discussing the same subject multiple times in the past. I know this particular question has been asked and answered before. I found it ironic that you were being chided by someone who had < 10 posts.
tl;dr - non-ATT sims work without mods, ATT sim data connection gets disabled, this has been covered.

Remember, its BETA... Yes I used it for a while today, and thought it looks awesome, but right there in the 75 pages of posts, it says its still not working with wifi or usb. Hopefully beta 4 will come soon. I also had a lot of lockups and bluetooth calling worked but hung at the hang up and I had to drop the battery to reboot... but its really coming along nicely!

Like every one has said...its time to go through the thread like a big boy but for real I feel like if you want to port a rom look through at least the last 5-7 pages and see what the most current issues are, and read through the change logs that are conveniently in the description the ROM is in beta 3 and those things you said just simply don't work so from now go to the thread every so often and see what changed your questions shall be answered!

Thanks I kinda jumped the gun on downloading it then I couldn't flash cwm so I thought I was stuck but I changed it back the old fashioned way but anyhow thanks for responding without hatred or sarcasm like these other a holes

Just wanted to know if this rom included the newest accessibility features from android 4.0? It's called "explore by touch", its a screen reader for people who are blind or visually impaired which is much like Apples VoiceOver. This would be very useful to me because I'm legally blind and Android accessibility is horrible at this point in time....

STOP and DEEP-STOP modes discussion/WIP

So in the spirit of Ezekeel and his deep-idle mode, I think we should look into the further power saving modes available to us.
I've been reading the S5PC110 tech manual (yes, actually reading it =P) and we have STOP and DEEP-STOP also that we could use. I'm trying to think of reasons why not to use these modes since the potential battery benefits are obvious. i could think of only a few things as to why not (and these are just guesses) a
Missed Calls, TXT, etc.?
I'm just not 100% sure on if we put them into stop or deep stop will calls and txt still go through and be able to wake th system from these modes?
Thoughts?
I think if we get this running it could turn the NS and other Hummingbird based Phones into quiet the nice little battery sippers =]
PS, pardon me if this shouldnt be in this forum, but i figured it was the best place for it

You sure? Cuz Its not just a question and its not out of place for the dev section. I'm wanting to start workin on this but also wanted input from others as to thoughts and potential risks involved as this will be the first project I've done like this. =3 If I'm going over the technical manual trying to figure if this is gonna cause issues with radio, notifications, etc.

Correct forum or not, I read it and its interesting.

Sounds like emails, calls, text and pretty much everything a phone is used for will fail to work during these modes. Basically the phone is turned off while not in use, battery savings seems great, background applications will fail which is the purpose of these phones. I need to receive my things real time not when I turn on the screen. Could be my partial drunkness but it seems like more power would be used when waken to process everything that has been stopped rather than to allow it to process real time and not need as much juice at one specific given time.
Btw, wrong forum lol the development section is for development, not ideas for development.

It looks like the only real way to find out is to try it. I'll look into making a stop mode first and will post results Asap. Hoping that maybe things will work as hoped and not prevent calls, txt, etc.

if you putting stop mode as akin to powering off i dont think thats exaclty correct from what i can tell. It seems that stop mode is essentially an in between before entering standby. Stop mode is in ways similar to deep idle but powers off more than just the CPU (this is my understanding so far). So when you enter stop you can selectively power off certain parts of the system, if these can be cherry picked so we only power off what we want idk yet. In stop mode you can power off things like the l1/l2 cache, g3d, etc. and the clock generators can be selectively powered down aswell. I believe You can also designate wake up sources aswell as the time period you want to maintain that stop state (dont have docs with me so its from memory)
My idea I'm gonna work on when i get home is this
1.Allow a user to determine if they want stop state enabled
2.have a user set time period the system has to be in deep idle before it goes further and enters stop
3. Allow the user to set a time frame for stop state to be maintained
i think if we allow for a user configureable time frame for stop mode and entering stop, aswell as setting the right wake up sources, we can avoid a scenerio where there are missed calls, txt, etc.
