I have a rooted stock AT&T GT 7, and it doesn't connect to the PC no matter what I do, not as a hard drive, not through Kies, nothing. It charges, provided I plug the cable (with OEM wall plug) into the Tab while the screen is turned off (otherwise if screen is on, the wall connection registers as a red x like a data connection). SO I can charge it... but I can't connect to the PC.
Like I said, it's rooted.. is there a way to flash a custom ROM without being connected to the PC? As in using an SD card to bring files to the Tab and doing everything that way?
CWM. If you never flashed it then no, you're screwed.

Did you try a different pc?
Did you check applications >development >USB debugging?
maybe there is something wrong with the cable, try different one
try connecting it with download mode while you are running odin, if odin recognized it then your problem is solved, flash any kernel with CWM (overcome) then you can continue flashing system from sdcard using CWM

Wifi copy with ES Explorer or another. Then just boot into CMW. If no CMW then use mobile Odin to flash files via the Odin/heimdall method.

take out the sd card and use it directly to your pc with an adapter and copy the files then put it back to the tab and flash it?

Hmmm.... "or another" you mean like Root Explorer? I have Root Explorer and am quite comfortable using it... what is mobile Odin? And is there a way to out CWM on without cable?
I really hope it is just the cable... I have a current full warranty on this thing, but that will be a major hassle.

My HTC Hero CDMA Cellular South, the USB doesnt work what so ever. When I plug it in I get no message or sound of it connecting and it just starts charging. Its a stock ROM, on 2.1.... any help? I have tried rooting the device before but quit before doing any flashing of the ROM because of the lack of information of the tutorial I was following. Please guys I really want my usb back
So your phone charges when its plugged in? But you cannot connect it to your computer to mount the sdcard. You may want to try running the RUU in fastboot mode.

Could you tell me what exactly this does and how I can do it? RUU im pretty sure is the updater, am I updating the ROM again to maybe fix the problem?
Update: I checked the USB cable and swapped in a different cable and everything is working just fine. Sometimes it's the simple things!
I'm having the same problem on my Sprint Hero, running CM6 with Kernel #14. I just loaded kernel #14 last night and this is the first time I tried to use USB access.
It's like it's not connected to the computer...but it is charging.
Ive already tried a differnt usb port and cable so, how can I reflash my rom without usb support?

You might want to look through manage applications in settings or some where in settings and clear the default for what to do when you plug your phone in.
Do you have a wireless router. You could install adbwireless from the market and get stuff to and from your phone.
Have you tried it on a different computer
You might want to delete the drivers on the computer for your phone, reboot computer and then plug the phone back into the computer and let it load the drivers.

I have tried everything, I have reinstalled drivers used 3 differnt computer with 3 differnt operating systems. is there a way I can reflash the ROM without it being connected to the computer... say my sd card...?
I just hard reset the phone and still nothing...
When you connect your phone and do
Code:
adb devices
do you get anything?
I had this very same problem a few weeks ago. I was using the original usb cable that came with the phone when i got it back in march. Simply trying a new "stronger" looking cable did the trick for me.
Although, I think you have already tried this.

So I can't connect my phone to any Windows PC as it says: USB device not recognized.
I tried Samsung drivers for Galaxy S phones and for the Epic 4G from three different locations and Samsung Kies and I still can't the connection to my SD card to work.
Also Odin will not recognize the phone at all either on any PC.
That is fine I can still download things on my phone with Wireless Transfer Pro application, but how can I flash the modem or install CWM without any direct connection to the phone?
Right now I'm running CWM 2.5. I want to put 3.0.25 on it and then flash the ee03 baseband and then reinstall a ee03 ROM since the one I'm currently using is being flaky.

Yeah my windows firewall is off and antivirus (windows security essentials) process is gone.
I just need to know where to get the correct drivers so Odin will work. I do the 1+power key to get to the yellow logo screen but it won't detect the phone.
I already uninstalled anything samsung usb related in my add/remove programs.

Ok i'll try those. And yeah, I uninstalled everything from device manager and add/remove programs that relates to the phone.
So I installed those drivers, restarted my computer, turned off my phone and then pressed 1 + power to get to "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!!" screen, loaded up Odin, and plugged my micro USB cable in to phone and computer and it still gives the the error "USB device not recognized"
The cable used still charges my phone, do you think its a bad cable?

1. if you're using the factory Samsung cable, toss it and get a good cable.
2. If you still can't get any of the drivers to install or work properly (I couldn't either, I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit).. find and install PDAnet. Select Samsung, follow all instructions carefully during install. You can un-install it when you're done but this was the method that involved the least drinking to accomplish for me.
If this helps (or any members suggestion for that matter) remember to hit the thanks button.
Thanks guys. It turned out the original Samsung cable was bad. It could still charge but for whatever reason it could not connect to the phone's SD card over USB.
Hi xda developers,
Recently i am not able to connect my Galaxy S using USB to any of my PC / Laptop. When i connect it all of my PCs says unrecognized USB device. Also odin (1.3 / 1.8) doesn't detects my phone in download mode at all. I am using Android 2.3.3 with rooted kernel and i have CWM installed. I reformatted my PC and installed new version of Kies still no luck. Is there any way i can upgrade to stock 2.3.4 firmware using CWM update.zip function. I can transfer update.zip from my PC to external SD card and then copying the update.zip to internal sd card using file manager inside the phone. The problem is i am not able to find stock ROM in update.zip format to use with CWM.
Any help is appreciated.
BTW my phones still charges fine using mini usb port and phone charger but is not detected as usb device in Windows 7. I also tried Kies / Media Player mode but no luck there. I am not sure its a software or hardware issue. Also my phone is out of warranty.

It strikes me that it might be another issue.
Have you:
Checked the cable
Tried another cable
Checked the drivers
Reinstalled drivers
Definitely faulty MICROUSB cable!!!
Tried Four different cables
I have already tried four different cable but no luck so far.
when its rooted and u have CWM why don't u transfer 2.3.4 firmware as .zip( I think I have seen it here somewhere) via WLAN to ur device and flash via CWM?
i had same problem with a cable, btw when changed the cable to original it's working again.
when i flashing new rom with the old cable results fault, so it's my luck my phone is not bricked
Hello,, I have a galaxy s4 running on Omega rom,, and my usb porn doesnt work,
I did a factory reset to find that ALL the apps crash on startup
If the usb porn was working I would have just flashed the stock firmware,, but any operation that needs USB is impossible
Can you please help me? Isnt there a solution?
** It's USB port , not USB porn **
What exactly do you mean by that?
1) Do you have USB cable connected to PC and your PC does not detect it?It could be a cable problem.Have you try a different one?
2) It could also be a driver problem.Do you have installed the correct drivers so your PC can detect your phone right?
Also if you had a custom rom flashed to your phone you can make it work again just by flashing it back using a custom recovery.Format system , data , boot and cache partitions and make a clean install of your rom.If you have not a custom recovery I am afraid you have to flash your phone through USB.
First of all, I would like to thank you for your help
Apologies for that mistake I'm still getting used to my new keyboard..
The USB port doesn't work meaning it neither charges nor connects to pc, because when it was charging, I smelled some plastic burning, could be a short circuit
And I don't have the Zip of the rom anymore on the phone, could it be possible to put an SD card and flash another one that is guarenteed to work?
And yes I have custom recovery

Yes.If you have access to recovery you can just connect you sdcard to PC with an adapter and put the zip of your rom inside. Then put it but to your phone and flash it back.
You could also try to mount your sdcard to PC from your custom recovery and you put the zip of your choice inside.
