Problem to install MIUI - Milestone 2 General

Hello everybody,
I`m in love with will5 miui for milestone 2 and i really want to try this ROM, but im a newbie in this things, so i will explain how i tried to flash this rom and please say to me if im doing something wrong =) ty:
1- I Rooted my device with DooMLoRD v4
2- Moved the rom and Bootmenu v0.8.6 to my SD Card
3- Enabled USB Debuging
5- Installed Droid 2 Bootstrap
6- Boot with bootstrap in recovery mod and from there (install zip from sdcard)
the bootmenu and clicked in "Reboot System now"
7- Than in bootmenu set default boot to normal and went to "Custom Recovery".
8- So i "Wipe data/Factory Reset" than "Wipe Dalvik Cache", "Wipe Baterry Stats" and did "Wipe data/Factory Reset" again
9- So "Apply update from sdcard" and "reboot system now"
But my phone didnt boot, the motorola logo appears for 2 segonds and the screen come black, the screen is on, I can see the light but it is complet black. And my fone stay dead, so i removed the battery and installed the retail rom again, but i really wanna try MIUI can some one help me? ty
My fone was previous in Gingerbread and I read some thing that MIUI didnt support GB Kernel. Is the problem there? If this the problem theres any way to install MIUI?

Hey there, sounds like you possibly came from the official gingerbread version on android os. If you've done a system update in the past couple months, then yeah you have.
Once you have officially updated to gingerbread, you can no longer use this rom (dowgrade issues - ie you can't downgrade)
Please have a read through this thread I created, look for bold titles that apply to you and have a read (there is a specific section for ROM's and compatibility + how to install). I've linked to a fair few essential threads from these forums so it might be worth while having a deep read up on all stuff ms2 related

So no chance to install MIUI =/ bad news. Thanks you m8 any rom recomendation for long battery? ty

Well it all depends really.. if you are a really heavy user (ie long periods of gaming or web browsing) no rom is going to help
The guys getting days usage out of there phones aren't really using them that much so if you don't get anything like that - this could be the reason.
I've never experienced any specifically bad roms for battery life, nor noticed that any give a significant increase from 1 to the other (though all of them seem far better than stock).
I can easily drain to shut off in 4-6 hours most days . I use my phone for work though so it's nearly constant use, then I smash some games or internet in my break.
I'd probably recommend endless7's defy port of cm7 since it's compatible with GB, and less ram heavy than argen2stone. But you'll never know till you take the plunge yourself

Ok man thank you for the help

erm. How do I wipe before I flash ?

I rooted my Hero a long time ago and installed Cyanogen's Recovery Image 1.4 on at the same time.
Over the last couple of days I've finally got hacked off waiting for an official 2.1 ROM to be released and decided to have a play with some of the Custom ROMs. The problem I've run into is that all of the guides talk about erasing data from different directories and partitions but none of them discuss how to do it !?
All I really need to know is if this is something that must be done via adb and what/where the directories are that need to cleared out.
I have searched and trawled but I get the feeling that this step is something that is done antomagically by the newer Recovery Images. If that's the case, would you suggest I upgrade mine ? And to what ?
Thanks for the help
(Really looking forward to playing with VillainROM 6 )
Yep,... Id 1st updrage your recovery to AmonRa 1.6.2.
Use BTDAG's guide in my signature to find out how to install it or I think there are ADB instructions for the installation in the Amon Ra thread.
Once that is done, before you flash a new ROM, turn of your phone, you go into your recovery by holding "HOME" and "POWER" buttons, then go into wipe, then select all of them one by one,....
[Recovery ROM] [07-Mar-2010] RA-hero-v1.6.2
Thanks ddotpatel, I guessed it might be due to the age of the Recovery Image I've got
I'll upgrade this evening

Any idea exactly what stats are erased by the battery stats & rotation settings options?
No idea pal,... but if Im flashing a new ROM without having 100% battery I leave the battery settings wipe.
I assumed that wiping battery stuff makes your phone think your battery is full after the wipe,...
So say its actually at 50%, then you wipe stats and flash a new ROM, then your phone thinks that battery is at 100% so will only charge upto that level.
The only thing I'm basing this on is I have read people say that when flashing a ROM when battery is not 100% they seem to lose battery capacity. But who knows, it could be psychological?
AFAIK battery stats deletes stuff like which programs have been using your battery as well as the currently stored battery figure. I assume that on next boot it checks the battery capacity afresh and goes with that figure.
Rotate one - i assume is to do with application rotation and the g-sensor.
I always wipe this data because it can't hurt - worst case it has to work it out again and it takes an extra 10 secs or so on startup.
Lithium Ion batteries don't have the "memory" problem of older batteries where they forget any charge that is left in the battery when it is put on charge and assume when its removed from charge that it is 100%. They should always stay the same capacity for their entire life duration. Again this is all AFAIK
Aahaaa,...
I always take what you say as gospel BTDAG.
Might have a read up on batteries later,... If I remember,... If I can be arsed!
Do you ever flash ROMs without having 100%?... No problems?

I took the same cautious view as ddotpatel. I figured if it's important enough to store in it's own private flash, it's probably holding data related in some way to the physical state of the phone, or an estimate thereof. I'm wary to touch them without ever having seen any solid info on what's there.
I've noticed one or two new ROM threads where the user is told to wipe these stats. I hope no one gets burned as a result.
BTW Also all afaik. It's just that in my case that isn't very far.

[Q] Help: Installing Rom over existing ROM

I have an HD2 that I had someone flash to android for me.
The phone initially functioned pretty well, although i immediately noticed that the phone would sometimes crash when I launched Navigator.
Months down the road, the phone began crashing more frequently, and now has become a serious concern for me. The phone will crash when running youtube, gps (google & navigator), and sometimes with the camcorder.
Sometimes it will just restart- out of nowhere.
I have about 120 apps- just mentioning-- not sure if this makes a difference--
So I've decided that i would like to change the Rom.
I've been reading through the forum for a while-- I would like to be pointed to the best reference for proceeding with this-- since I haven't actually done this before.
Will I need to go through the process of radios and stuff-- not sure, since i already have an android rom running on the system.
What is one of the better Rom's available, with working features?
Thanks in advance for any help--
here is a shot of my current system:
well i'll say if you ask a 10 people here what ROM is best your bound to get 20 different responces. this is simply because some people rather sence based, some like miui and some prefer CyanogenMod. what i would suggest is a ROM thats rather easy to flash & use so you can get an idea of how to flash it. after you feel comfortable you can check out the vast Android builds the hd2 has to offer.
i would suggest either rafdroid hd found here or bluetopia hd found here. both builds are very easy to flash, just make sure you follow the directions closely and you wont have a problem. you dont need to change the radio more then likely since its probably already been done before. please note that bluetopia is meant for tmous users and not 512. personally i'd check out rafdroid hd anyway just because it has a very detailed description on how to flash the ROM.
both of those are sence builds but if you rather a non-sence base you can look at this webpage for a ROM you rather flash. it lists tons of builds to go through so pick one that you feel would be better for you.

Glad to see a fellow hd2 user on Rafdroid HD.
Yes Rafdroid HD is one of the completed sense roms but is not the latest.
Latest roms have sense 3 but will have bugs
You will need this (ClockWorkMod. aka CWM) Flash magdlr first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044830
Depending on rom, you will have to choose cwm partition size. RafDroid Hd uses 400mb. Other roms may have to set custom partition size.Click Here for Rafdroid HD
Lastly, you may need sd-ext3 partition. Recommended 1Gb
1)
...If you are still on magdlr flashing method and not cwm boot to magdlr menu.(Hold power button till you see a menu). Press Android Hardreset.(Call button to select, volume keys up/down)
...If on CWM already, boot to magdlr menu and select Recovery. Press the "delete data/factory reset"
2)
Flash a new cwm partition using USB flasher option.
3)
Put rom in sd card (do not unzip the rom, leave it as .zip)
4)
Boot to CWM and select install zip from sdcard. Navigate to rom file and select. Flashing may take up to 15mins or more.(Just be patient, do NOT remove battery when it is flashing halfway, just leave it alone)
5)
Once done press reboot system. First boot may take longer to load. Once it boots to setup phone screen, youre good to go!
OK-- I'm not really following all of this CWM stuff-- I watched the guy who put android on my phone go through the process-- and asked him to briefly detail me the steps--
he never mentioned anything about cwm... so what exactly is that?
since android was already flashed to my device-- what would be the best process of removing the current android system and installing another?
i powered up my phone while holding down volume key--
its reads
PB81120 SSB3
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
serial

i also know that i have a magldr---
how do i know whether i have tmous or 512?

i would read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837
basically, cwm allows you to flash android roms without using a computer to install. (as opposed to daf.exe roms, which you need to tether to the computer.) it is much more than that, but that is all you need to know now. but read the thread above.
if your hardkey buttons are green/red it is tmousa, 1024
if they are not, it is 512
So- another question-- can anyone take a guess at why my phone is crashing so often--
could it be the number of apps i have downloaded (over 120-- mostly stored to SD)
could it be conflicts in the current ROM being used?
Might it be the battery?
When the ROM was freshly added, the system ran perfectly well, with the exception of Navigator crashing once in a while--
I've probably been running with Android for over 6 months now--
its been acting up for about 3 months now.
problems i often encounter:
crashes when i run-
navigator, gps, youtube, sometimes camcorder
forces closes apps somewhat frequently
I have my system clocked down to around 800mhz on conservative mode, via setCpu, because i feared it was running too hot.
thanks much-- ive read all the posted links--
what i'd like to know-- once i install cwm--
is there a need to wipe the existing rom, before installing another--
or do you just install the desired rom?
yes back up everything 1st. i also like to make a copy of my sd card on my computer. then when your about to flash a ROM you will need tp wipe data & cache. once you've wiped them both you'll need to go down to advanced and select that, go to delvic and wipe that. press back and now you are finally ready to flash the rom by selecting install rom from sd. after it runs dont be alarmed but it can take several mins for it to go through the process. when it says its done then reboot the phone. the boot up time will depend greatly on the rom you've chosen so be patient. it can take up to 10-15 mins for your phone to completly reboot.

this is where i get confused---
where do I "wipe" anything-- what program do i use to do this--
and if I'm "wiping" memory, will i need to reinstall programs like magldr, or any radios, again?
you said "go down to advanced"--- 'advanced' in what running program?
you wipe whats listed above in magldr. you can enter magldr by turning off the phone, then turn on the phone but hold the power button down. you will see magldr pop up if its installed. option 8 is recovery you scroll down my pressing vol up and vol down. to select press the green talk button.
so when you enter magldr you go to option 8, it will go to cwr (recovery) then scroll using vol down/up to wipe data. press the green talk to wipe. do the same thing to wipe cache..then scroll down to advanced and select that by pressing green talk. scroll down to delvic and wipe that by pressing green talk. press back and then select install from sd. now you are able and ready to install a rom. simply select the zip file of the rom you want thats on your sd card. (sorry this should have been listed above..place the rom you want on your sd card) now select the rom by scrolling up or down by vol keys and press talk to select your rom. it will begin flashing. at this point it can take a few mins so dont panic. after it completes you will need to press back button and the reboot phone. when you flash a rom sometimes it can take as long as 10-15 mins for it to boot up. take this time to review and make sure you did every step as its been said and you followed all the instructions listed.
you need to wipe everything between flashes because sometimes there is left over code/data etc that can interfer and mess up your phone. it does not wipe anything like magldr/radio/rom..it really just prepares it for it to except a new rom by deleteing the old data. its the same thing as a factory reset really.
Choosing wipe data/factory reset wipes all the partitions,, cache, dalvik, etcetera, ,, no need to manually clear all the different bits one by one.
yes but a little extra safety precautions never hurt anyone
Watch the screen when you do 'wipe data's, it clears the cache, data,dalvik,sd-ext.... so if you then do them individually too you are wiping already wiped partitions.
i know it goes through them all, i been flashing a looong time since the days of winmo 6. personally i like the comfort of making sure as do a lot of other people here on XDA do. im not the 1st person to suggest doing this. i've seen numerous people give these instruction & i still feel its a good way of double checking before flashing a ROM.

Gen1 to Gen2 TPT Upgrade

Sorry for the new thread, but I can't post in the dev section yet - this is really a follow up to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855 - maybe someone can move it?
I just used the following zip file and it worked well:
CM Nightly 257 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs latest CyanogenMod nightly build - all in one)
Download: cm7-n257-blade-gen1-to-gen2-tpt.zip mirror
Download size: 107.8 MB
MD5: 813ba810ca0a596da4eb6ea7e47205a1
SHA1: 11030dff7b48c79463185b25fc848d488fe77768
A couple of things that weren't clear from the Instructions section (which presumably apply rather to the non all-in-one versions - haven't tried personally) were
a) Does not "reboot into ClockworkMod recovery", rather direct into CM Nightly 257, and
b) Wipes data - presumably must have done because the boot into CM was successful.
This is all very good and nicely automated; could just amend the instructions to be something like:
It should take a few seconds to flash the new Gen2 firmware (you should see some green text), then it should either reboot into ClockworkMod recovery, use that to wipe data & then install your Gen2 rom (for the custom and stock versions), or reboot into CM Nightly 257, no need to wipe or install the CM rom oneself (for the all-in-one).
All in all a great piece of work.
New here and also wish i could post on that thread as i found it extremely useful and it persuaded me to make the jump and finally upgrade my San Francisco.
It honestly feels like a new phone now, after running stock orange 2.1 since i got it about 10months back with some tweaks to launcher etc. I wish id done this a lot sooner. I also used the nightly 257 rom.
I was also (initially alarmed!) a little confused about the points a) and b) you raised above as mine also seemed to skip those steps and just launch straight into the mod. All well and good though this has now left me wondering if the step b was vital. Prior to this on a fresh start and after using Advanced Task Killer to kill all the crap id be looking at around 300mb free memory. Since the new ROM i now have 173mb free in Advanced Task Killer. Odd since i dont have a fraction of the amount of stuff on the phone considering all the stuff that came preloaded with Orange etc.
I dare say the new OS may have a larger footprint. Though my main concern is that as I somehow skipped the part where it says
"then it should reboot into ClockworkMod recovery, use that to wipe data & then install your Gen2 rom." I wonder if this means not all the old ROM has been erased and results in my limited memory.
If i check under Settings > Storage it gives me 294 Total with 203 free under internal storage. Wish id thought to check this value prior to install...
That aside it all works great and im delighted with it.
OK, what do you want free memory for? You should realise that is memory that you have paid for which isn't in use - wasted memory in other words. Android 2.3 uses more ram, when nothing else wants to use it, in order to make your phone run faster, that is a good thing. If you want to use an app which requires a lot of memory then android will free it automatically.
Don't use task killers, they harm system performance by working against Android's own memory & task management system (which is better than any task killer), reduce battery life, cause bugs & you wont get any support at all from anybody involved with Cyanogenmod if you use one.
The all in one version that includes a rom starts straight into that rom, that should be pretty obvious.
It will wipe your data, if you're updating from Android 2.1 then it'll wipe everything. Otherwise it'll miss any apps on your sd card, that's the only reason i say to wipe data - if you're coming from stock Android 2.1 then you can't have any apps on your sd card, so it makes no difference.
Stock Android 2.1 phones have 207mb internal storage ( /data) in total, you gain almost 90mb. The stock Orange bloat apps use up more room (dalvik cache) too, so you end up with much more room to install your own apps & games.
Unable to convert Gen1 -> Gen2 via TPT
Hi all,
I didn't want to start new thread, so I'll post here. In short - I'm unable to convert my Gen1 Blade to Gen2 using wbaw's TPT method.
I followed instructions carefully, tried 2 different zips (Gen1-to-Gen2-TPT-v10-custom, cm7-n257-blade-gen1-to-gen2), used 3 different microSD cards (1GB, 2GB, 8 GB class 4) and still nothing.
Image folder is on the card, all MD5s do match, I turn off the phone, wait few sec (I even took the battery out few times), press and hold menu&vol+ and then power, red power led is on, then green robot shows up, and... nothing, no green text on the screen, just few seconds later my Gen1 ROM is booting.
Any ideas?
make sure that you keep holding menu & vol+ when you press power. that's the only thing i can think of, unless your phone is already gen2. a few sd cards dont work with it, but it shouldn't be that hard to find one that does.
Thanks for the answer, wbaw.
I am holding both - menu (the one in the middle, between home and back) & Vol+ - then I press and hold power, after few seconds I let the power go but keep holding the other two. After few another seconds (while green robot is visible) a regular boot animation shows up.
My phone is definitely Gen1, as I recently installed G1 ROM (mmhmp) and previously used Mr. Pigfish, both report Gen1.
I just reformatted my stock Transcend 2GB card in CWM, put only 'image' folder with all files (MD5s are ok) and still no go. What the hell?....
Btw. I'm using 3.0.2.8 CWM. Does it make any difference? I'm running out of ideas.. what else can I check?
No idea then, sounds like you're doing everything right. The flashing should happen before the green robot shows up, if the robot comes up straight away then it's already failed to flash anything & you have to try again. It's a zte flashing program, built into one of the first bootloaders (the green robot is displayed by a later bootloader), you need to be holding vol+ & menu when you turn it on & for about a second after that, then you can let go. You should see some green text, or maybe just a black screen, then after a minute or two a big version of the green robot & clockworkmod 5.
Clockworkmod is irrelevant, it's a different zte flashing process.
Only thing I can suggest is try another sdcard. I know a few people have reported it didn't work with their sdcard, but it was only a few people & it worked with the 2nd or 3rd sdcard they tried. I got a verbatim 2gb with my phone, that works, sandisk 8gb class 2 works too & so does my new 16gb class 10 verbatim.
If everything fails & you must update to gen2, then there are some windows software phone update packages that let you update your phone using your windows pc. Those packages & instructions are in the zte blade section at modaco.com. It's a bit harder, slightly riskier, but hopefully it'll work.
I just tried another card, some noname 512MB from my old Nokia (I didn't even realized I have so many microSD cards...) and unfortunately this one is also no good. Damn....
So, TPT is built-in and should work with all Gen1 ZTE's no matter what ROM or CWM I'm using, right? Is there any possibility I accidentally removed/erased or destroyed part of it?
I didn't even flash that much, from stock Blade (well, I removed simlock), I installed CWM and went to Swedish Spring (half a year ago). Now I've decided to move forward, installed Gen1 MMHMP, but decided to give CM a try. As you can see not much of a history, therefore I'm even more surprised TPT is not working in my case...
Is there a way to tell this flasher actually works? Something other than just putting gen-to-gen converter image? Any troubleshooting you may think of?
Edit: Tried another card (that's already 5th card!!), 8GB class 4 - no go... I don't think it's a problem with microSD card anymore... it has to be something else.
It turns out TPT is not available on my Blade (some European versions lacking TPT were reported). Anyway, I have successfully converted to Gen 2 using Windows/FTM method. I didn't find it hard, it's just a bit more hassle with repeated flashing. All went good, no need to fear.
Thanks!
Hi, sorry to thread hijack the thread hijack, but I too have a question about this process and can't post in the dev forum.
I just followed the all-in-one process on my girlfriend's brand new stock Orange San Francisco, and it worked flawlessly. I'm now wanting to do the same to mine, but it isn't stock; it has ClockwordMod (3.x, I think) and a FlibbleSan ROM from Modaco installed (Gen1).
What (if any) different steps do I have to take to get everything rolling on my own device? Apologies if it's a stupid question, I was just spooked by the parts about not using it on operator upgraded 2.2 devices and wondered if the same disclaimer applied to user updated phones.
(Merry Christmas )
Never mind, I took the plunge and everything works fine.
Random Reboots after Upgrade
Can't post in Dev forum either so posting here.
I had updated my blade last year from Orange stock to JJF, still GEN1.
I followed the all-in-one process to get to GEN2 CM7 build 257 and all has worked well.
The only issue I am seeing now is random reboots every day or so.
Any ideas? Known issue or fix?

Ok so I used ROM Manager and installed CyanogenMod 7 V7.1.0 as that is meant to be stable, wiped data/cache/etc via the process.
All was well until I needed to make a call, screen keeps going black and I need to remove battery to resolve?
Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to calibrate the proximity sensor. I think there should be a ZTE Blade settings app that you use to do it.
Probably better to flash one of the latest self-compiled versions of CM7. Its been a while since nightlies were made, but lots of new stuff has been added/fixed since 7.1.0 RCs/stable.

Like Amphoras says calibrate your proximity sensor in the ZTE Blade Settings app. That should do. If you still have a problem, flash the 257 nightly or any other ROM if you don't like CM.

this might be a bit offtopic but is there a way to tell from the packaging if the phone has amoled or tft? I suppose tft is best?

[Q] What should i do with the phone

My dad had bought a used htc hd2 and it had android already installed on it and he gave it to me. But his google account is locked in it and restore to factory settings doesn't erase everything so i went around the internet looking for solutions and i learned a little more about phone modding and stuff so i was wondering in addition to getting rid of anything should i upgrade it? It hasn't been used in over a year and here's the phone info
Android Version: 2.3.4
Kernel version: 2.6.32.14_tytung_r10
Build number: GRJ22 (NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.7 Nand)
It really depends on what you want from the phone. GB is stable and smooth but ICS and above ROMs are better for gaming and web browsing. I'd recommend at the very least flashing a more up to date GB ROM such as TyphooN, but your current ROM should be fine if you don't want to bother flashing anything.

I would like to flash and have a phone better for gaming. And also i had mentioned that my dad's google account is locked in and i can't get rid of some of the personal data even from factory reset.
I was looking at the ICS' you mentioned and the latest one would be http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860 right? If so could you point me to a guide that could help me install it?
ok to get rid of your dads account you must boot into recovery and wipe data....when phone is off hold down the power button until it goes to a menu...magldr or clk..depents on what the other guy that had the phone done with it...you will find an option "ad recovery" or something..choose it to boot into recovery and then wipe data...you should really search it...you will find what you need...this forum is full of guides...
Look in my sig, there's a guide. ICS is definitely better for gaming, you can flash any ICS ROM you choose but NexusHD2 is always good, I used that one too. If you want to just wipe your data then do what the person above said, i.e. wipe data/factory reset in CWM.
U can flash a new rom altogether. Here is a good one. Its the typhoon rom. I use it and its fast and stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
Android being installed on the internal memory, MAGLDR (bootloader) and the clockwork mod recovery are already installed.
U can download the rom, put it in the root of your sd card. Then follow these:
1. Boot into MAGLDR ( by holding the power button when you boot, hold it until u see the MAGLDR menu)
2. Go to the option, "AD Recovery". You will boot into the clockworkmod recovery
3. Wipe date and cache using the options. Also by going in the advanced menu, delete the dalvik cache as well.
4. then select the 'install zip from sdcard"
5. Navigate to the rom ( its the downloaded .zip file)
6. It will install and reboot the phone to use the new rom.
The Phone will be like new. U will access the welcome to android screens. All your dads google contacts and anything associated with the google account will be lost. All contacts, emails, settings etc will be deleted. U will be asked to make a gmail or use an existing one. All apps u installed will be lost. U can backup the apps using titanium backup. and the contacts can be saved on the sd card and then on to ur pc is u want to. It is suggested that you format the sd card as well before installing the rom. but im not sure about this.

[Guide] A guide to KitKat

Hello, recently there have been a lot of posts requesting help with KitKat on our device. This is why I have created a guide going through the installation, setup, issues and many other aspects of KitKat on our phone.
1. List of KitKat ROMs:
OmniROM
CyanogenMod
ParanoidAndroid
SlimKat
Illusion Roms
C-RoM
SlimSaber
CarbonRom
Dirty Unicorns
MoKee OpenSource
Resurrection Remix
Asylum Omni
2. Installation
If you are on the stock Jelly Bean/ICS Samsung firmware:
-Download Philz kernel and copy it to your SD card
-Download a KitKat ROM and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Download PA-Google Apps and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Download Raw Kernel r5 and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Reboot to recovery by holding down volume up, power and home button at once until you are in recovery mode
-Flash Philz kernel
-Go to "Mounts and Storage" and format /system, /data, /preload
-Reboot to recovery again by going to "advanced", "reboot to recovery" or by holding down volume up, power and home button at once until you are back in recovery mode
-Flash Raw Kernel
-Reboot to recovery again
-Flash your ROM
-Flash PA-Google Apps
-Reboot
If you are on any AOSP based firmware or on any custom TouchWiz ROM:
-Download a KitKat ROM and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Download PA-Google Apps and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Download Raw Kernel r5 and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Reboot to recovery by holding down volume up, power and home button at once until you are in recovery mode
-Flash Raw Kernel
-Go to "Mounts and Storage" and format /system, /data, /preload (formatting /preload may fail, skip if it does)
-Reboot to recovery again by going to "advanced", "reboot to recovery" or by holding down volume up, power and home button at once until you are back in recovery mode
-Flash your ROM
-Flash PA-Google Apps
-Reboot
3. Updating your firmware
Updating your system is very easy, some ROMs (ex. OmniROM) have a built-in updater. Simply go to Settings, About phone and "Update". After that just follow the instructions on screen.
If your ROM doesn't support that option or you want to go old-school:
-Download the updated ROM to your internal/external memory
-Reboot to recovery
-Flash the ROM
-Reboot
4. Bugs, issues
When flashing any KitKat ROM I get a "Status 7 error".
You didn't follow the installation procedure carefully enough. You most probably forgot to flash Raw Kernel or you forgot to reboot to recovery after flashing Philz or Raw Kernel.
Sometimes whilst listening to music, the track freezes and I can no longer access it.
KitKat for our device has a bug in it where this happens. There is NO fix for this. Only a reboot will allow you to access the file again.
Refer to this thread for more information.
UPDATE:
The bug has been fixed however not all ROMs have merged the fix yet. If you are still having this issue then try flashing a kernel with the fixes merged (for example Forest Kernel or Raw Kernel).
Sometimes whilst copying files from my computer, the copying process stops.
This is the same issue as the above one with the music bug. One way to copy files without a problem is to reboot to recovery, go to mounts and storage and go for "mount USB storage". Copying through recovery is stable.
UPDATE:
The bug has been fixed however not all ROMs have merged the fix yet. If you are still having this issue then try flashing a kernel with the fixes merged (for example Forest Kernel or Raw Kernel).
I have battery issues.
This can be caused by many reasons, mainly your apps. Here are a few quick fixes though:
1. If your battery is at least a year old then it may be time to replace it with a new original one
2. Go to Settings, Wi-Fi, menu button, advanced and unmark "Scanning always available"
3. Install Greenify
4. If your ROM supports it, go to App Ops (On CarbonROM: Settings, Privacy, Privacy Guard, menu button, advanced) and disable the permission "keep awake" from as many apps as possible. Do not disable this permission from alarm clocks, email clients etc.
You can also disable other permissions, such as location which will also save your battery life
5. Install Titanium Backup and freeze/uninstall as many un-used apps as possible
6. Install Wakelock Detector to find out what is keeping your device awake
7. If you still have problems, refer to this thread
I haven't got ROOT access.
This usually affects OmniROM users. Download SuperSU zip and flash through recovery mode
I want access to Developer options.
Go to Settings, About phone and tap 7 times "Build number"
I want to change the runtime to ART.
Go To Settings, Developer options and find "Select runtime". Don't forget that the ART runtime is still in development by Google and bug reports shouldn't be filed against ROMs if you experience problems on ART
Every single time I change to the ART runtime, it doesn't change and stays on the current Dalvik runtime.
You have Xposed installed which is stopping you from changing it as Xposed is incompatible with ART. Uninstall Xposed to fix this.
I hope you have found this mini guide useful. If you still have any doubts, please don't hesitate to request more help in this thread.
If you have any suggestions as to what else should be included in this guide, don't forget to drop a line or two.
Nicely done.
Wow u really did a great one there. Hopefully this will be a great help to all "lost sheeps" out there. Well done!

Updated, thanks
Very nice, but I'm sticking with 4.1.2 for several reasons.
One, Samsung hasn't officially (and seriously doubt they will, device is almost 3 years old) released
4.4 to the Note N7000. I usually stick with stock roms (different kernel obviously).
Two, to get kk, you have to jump through some hoops to get it on your device. I'm not above doing it,
it's just too much of a pain, to have to load all the apps, settings etc. Should be a "drag & drop" or
just click, to install.
Three, pretty much every KK rom I've seen, for the N7000, has a glitch here, bug there, battery problem,
BT problem etc. I've heard people flash the same rom to two different N7000's and one works perfect, the
other doesn't.
Four, I've had 4.1.2 on mine, since the day it came out, and, without a doubt, it's been for my usage, pretty
much the most stable rom I've used. When I was younger, back in the 386/486 computer days, it was nothing
for me to spend an evening, tweaking front side buss settings, memory timings, config.sys & autoexec.bat files
to tweak 1-2 seconds of performance from a PC. Today, I'm just after decent performance, and STABILITY.
This device, sadly IS my lifeblood for work. I don't have time for rebooting, lock ups, glitches etc.
I'm shopping around for device...the Note3 was on the list, but the price (I don't do contracts anymore) is a bit
steep, along with getting one to work properly in the USA, means you almost always have to get a LOCKED
down at&t device, with features removed, bloat etc. Got a few on the radar, but I'll just keep going with the N7000.
I'll hate to put her out to pasture, she's been a good ride.

This is the wrong place to ask your question. Should've gone to troubleshooting section. Your situation might have been caused by ICS kernel. You should've flashed compatible CWM + franco's safe kernel or philz safe kernel n recovery first before flashing anything else in ICS 4.0.4

After flashing Raw Kernel r5 then you won't be able to boot into your old ROM, only recovery mode and download mode. I'm guessing you chose the wrong reboot option or you didn't follow the instructions properly (rebooting at the proper times for example).
Nice guide mate. Many thanks for your time giving.
Great

Excellent guide, many thanks for taking time to compile this to help others.
Shalom and best wishes, john
Thanks for your guide..!
In the Omni wiki I read.
TWRP is the only recovery officially supported by Omni.
Is this included in the step by step manual?
Thank you
Now with Dirty Unicorns v7.5 !
Nice guide thanks.
Is it possible to flash after cm11, cm10.2 ? Or I have to change kernel or recovery things ?
Thanks

You already will have a superior recovery. So no need.
