Honest opinion of the atrix

Ive been wanting to try the atrix i just see a lot of mixed reviews so no where better to ask but here true users! Thanks for any replies maybe yall can help

Its depend on what you want, But for me the phone is a solid one, good gps (coming from htc inspire and the gps there was an horror) the screen seems very nice 275ppi, very fast phone, feels great in the hand. If you looks in the htc's dev there are much more support from dev than the atrix but here the roms are really nice, no craps, no experiments, and in some time we're getting cyan. I really like my phone!

I personally am in love with the phone. Great screen size, great resolution, great touch response, insane amount of onboard storage and ram so that apps never freeze up, and battery life that has made me question what good battery life really should be (even with moderate daily use I can go 30+ hours without a charger, I can go days if I don't use the phone at all, and about 9 hours of intense useage). It runs every app I've encountered like butter, including intense HD games (thanks to the Tegra processor and graphics).

Good phone, fast, slim, etc... but if your looking to get one in the near future, I'd wait till Oct. and get the Nexus Prime. Just my opinion though.

It is a very fast phone, you almost don't have any lag. Nice big 4" screen which works well even under bright sunlight. Though there are a lot of complaints about Motoblur, I kind of like it, it has almost everything I need, on my previous phone Motorola Milestone, I had to install all kinds of widgets just to get my phone to do these things.
More importantly if you are looking for a perfect phone, it is not and there is really no perfect phone. What is important is what are looking for in a phone? If you could list what you are looking for in a phone, then probably the users here would be able to provide you with input as to whether the phone will meet your expectations.

The mixed reviews of the Atrix are caused from the old radio roms which were current on 2.2.2 froyo roms. Now on stock 2.3.4 and latest radio rom, atrix is a true beast. It does everything instantly when you click and the best part, you always have a battery enough for the next charge. I truly love my atrix and always trust it wherever i'm, whatever i tend to do. It has no limits.
Plus, you can extend its functions way more with a lapdock accessory.

I bought mine about a month before the Gingerbread OTA update. As soon as that came out I applied it from MSU, then waited a little more than a week and finally took the plunge and ran mramirezusa's unlock/CWM/root script.
I really like the phone now and have absolutely no issues with it -- though I do miss the "white text on black background" menus in the previous stock ROM. I'm running navalynt's piCRUST ROM to dispense with some of the bloat, but the phone runs fine on the stock 4.5.91/2.3.4 ROM.
My only complaint is that the back cover could be a bit beefier. It uses tiny plastic clips to snap onto the main phone body. I wish it used a slide & lock type of affair like the BlackBerry.
I pulled the battery many times while learning how to flash the phone, and the back cover has gotten a little "creaky". Putting a case on the phone will firm it up enough so you don't hear or feel this. And learning how to use adb or fastboot to reboot when possible (instead of pulling the battery) will save wear and tear on the cover. But it's not like I ever need to pull the battery during regular use. I've only needed to do this when flashing didn't work for some reason (usually because I did something wrong).
Before this phone I had an HTC Desire HD. That phone was beautiful but it was simply too big for my hand, I couldn't comfortably hold it and push buttons with the same hand, and I felt that I needed to keep it in my smoking jacket when not in use. Gave new meaning to the phrase "Ginger-bread"; I always held it gingerly like some precious piece of jewelry. A bit too elegant for my tastes -- and heavy to boot.
I was pretty sure that HTC Desire would slip out of my hand within the first week of owning it, so I went back to Costco and picked out the next cheapest Android phone, which turned out to be the Atrix. It's much more my style. Nothing flashy except what's on the inside.

Useful thread as I very close to buying one. My choices (at the min) are the HTC Sensation, Samsung SII & Atrix and I know that everybody is going to scream 'get the SII' but I don't want a phone with such a large screen. I use my phone a lot but don't read ebooks or surf when in my lounge as I have an Android tablet for all of that.
I want a powerful phone that will run all my apps, allow me to 'play' with ROM's, have DLNA / HDMI connectivity and have a battery life better than 8 hours so (for me) the Atrix seems like the perfect device. I like the idea of the dock as it could replace my tablet but not at the current cost ! The Multimedia dock looks decent though as my plan would be to stream movies from my NAS through Atrix to HDMI TV.

I like the power that the Atrix produces, especially the 1gb ram. No other Android phone runs as smooth that I've used.
With that said, I don't like Qhd. Text font is too small at times IMHO. I've changed the build.prop density, but it can still be an eye strain.
The biggest thing that I want from ICS is hopefully a way to change a screen resolution like a PC.
Do that and this phone would be flawless!...

I came from Samsung Captivate. These are my own thoughts and YMMV
- The screen is not as good as the captivate. I mean yellow color seems funky
- The camera is baaad.
- Rest of the phone is good. 'Solid' is the word I would use. GPS is superlative. Well, i think coming from Captivate any GPS would feel superlative. .
- ROM options are less than that on Captivate, but we had a late start because of the locked bootloader. Soon Atrix will catch up.
I love it and don't regret dumping the captivate.

the one thing i hate most about this phone -
its so f*cking slippery! seriously.. if you have sweaty hands.. good luck holding onto this thing without a case.
other then that ---- the voice quality on phone calls incoming and outgoing is not great, but its also not horrible either --- middle of the pack.
the speaker is very loud, i find using that to talk to people is much easier then holding the phone up to my ear because i can understand people better.
the screen is fine... i like that i can actually see the thing in sunlight.

I've had mine for a little over a month now, I will say that I love this phone.
It is the perfect size for me; big but not too big.
It is FAST
The battery life is better than most smartphones
Camera is OK, it'll pass
ROM selection is growing.
Look and feel are almost HTC like IMHO
Price is spot on!!!

Really enjoyed when I used it. Feels great in hand.

For me it's been a great phone. And I've used a lot of smartphones under different platforms.
Android for me is rock solid and very nice to tweak and work on.
But the Atrix is a device on a different level thanks to it's Webtop implementation when used along with its accesories, specially the Lapdock, which has allowed me to leave my bulky and heavy laptop at home.
I really recommend you to try it and get some (if not all) of it's accesories. You will not regret it.

I just got mine last week when they were free at Best Buy. I was planning to hold out for the SGS2 but decided free was a wise option to take. My previous phone was the Dell Streak (standard 1ghz snapdragon phone) and we didn't have much in the way of custom roms so I was excited to switch to a phone with a real development community.
I never even booted the phone into the stock rom. My coworkers all have stock moto phones and motoblur is just bad. But running Alien #4 this phone screams and is glitch free. I think it's literally twice as fast as my Streak and am very pleased with my decision to get this phone. The screen is beautiful and the "4g" speeds are a nice little boost over standard 3g (I live in a town of around 175,000 so it's not a major city and data speeds are nice and fast at all times of the day).
Pros:
-Screaming fast
-Lots of accessories
-High resolution screen
-Huge battery
-Lots of internal memory
-Several good roms to choose from
-Gaming
Cons:
-Feels tiny after having the 5" Streak
-Camera is decent but not as good as others
-Can get pretty hot (but is not as hot as some other tegra2 devices I've tried

Not another Vibrant or G2? thread...

I've been using a g1 for the longest time, and have gone through tons of roms. It's finally time to move on though... the g1's community has largely ditched it's outdated hardware.
I'm looking at the vibrant and the G2 for tmobile, and the hardware seems to be roughly equal, with the g2 having a slight advantage in terms of muscle... hard keyboards are nice but I'm sure I can adjust.
I'm wondering how active the mod community is for the vibrant. I'm assuming no sense roms... I like sense but it's no big deal, I hear MIUI is nice. How stable/up-to-date are the better roms for the vibrant?
How do you vibrant owners like your phones? Do you wish you had anything from the G2?

The vibrant is mostly dead. There are lots of stable 2.2 roms and tons of non stable 2.3 roms. We will never get official 2.3 ever. Go with the g2. Just keep in mind its a lot harder to root than the vibrant

This is the kind of answer I was looking for, thanks. Looks like I'm going with the g2, unless somebody has a terribly compelling reason not to.

I aslo used a G1 for a long time:
I did have a G2 for a few months, and I'm pretty happy I switched to the Vibrant.
You just can't beat the Vibrant's screen, it's not even comparable to the G2's screen. Like night and day. It's also slightly bigger, which is good, because I have big hands.
The G2 is thick and heavy, if you drop it, it feels as if it would shatter into a million pieces. The Vibrant is light, and impressively thin.
Support from HTC on the G2 > Than the Vibrant's support from Samsung.
The Vibrant community has done a good job with putting Gingerbread on it, considering we don't have a source. I have a mostly bug free version of MIUI running on mine. My wife and I both use it as a daily driver.

I also prefer the Vibrant. In fact I prefer it so much we have 3 at our house. Latest one arriving tomorrow.
Development is mostly dead because CM7 is now bug-free and stable (except for mediocre battery-only about 15 hours on charge when you use the phone)
Phone itself is great. Screen and physical dimensions and weight are obviously big plusses and with CM7, it competes with dual cores just fine in speed. There's no slowdowns, lag, or anything like that. Tbh, I truly think it's the best single core phone at the moment. Dual cores are obviously better but also more expensive. You can pick up a Vibrant in good condition for $215 shipped.
G2 is also obviously another good choice. Personal preference there. Just know both phones are ridiculously fast on 2.3 and both can be overclocked a lot. Vibrant can push a good 1.4-1.5Ghz and G2 can be overclocked up to 1.6? I'm not all that familiar there.

Thanks for your input folks. I am aware that the screen on the vibrant is probably it's biggest selling point. Both phones are solid across the board hardware wise. The most important factor to me is the availability of solid roms for daily use, and right now it looks like the g2 is better supported by HTC.

If your rooting stable ROM's aren't a problem, but if your not then your screwed!

thinking about getting a SGS2 need advice

Hi all, I know its down to personal preference, but, I have a SGS1 with 16GB internal memory running 2.3.3. stock, so getting a SGS2 would not improve any of that, do you think its worth getting the SGS2? what would you all do and what would be the improvement i would see?

Been playing with one this weekend, they are very fast, have lots of memory and white ones look great.
The downside, everyone has one, sound is worse than SGS1, nexus prime out soon. I would personally get the nexus or wait for the SGS3 etc, surely you want something a bit different, the 2 is just a little bigger and a little faster

My wife picked one up a week ago, so I can truly compare mine to it side by side and I would say, I like it a lot.
1. Much, much faster.
2. There doesn't appear to be any Lag involved
3. Battery doesn't seem to last very long, but as I tested that part of it early on, it may need a few cycled charges to really say how good/bad it is.
4. GPS is way better than the SGS.
Now, having said all that, the phone is perfect for my wife (she bought the white one). She, having been a long-time blackberry user til her 9700 screen crapped out has been getting used to it, but she's starting to like this phone much better than her blackberry.
Like I said though.. its perfect for my wife. She doesn't know Gingerbread from Shortbread when it comes to this phone, and I intend to keep it that way. Yes this phone runs 2.3.3, but it doesn't seem to bad compared to my SGS with stock 2.3.3 as well. My phone is rooted, but I don't have intentions of rooting hers.
Long story short, its blazing fast, but I wouldn't buy one for myself. Samsung is just too slow on firmware updates to make it worth it for me. In fact any carrier specific phone would be. They are Androids, but they are kind of like Androids bastardized cousin. For me, my next phone is a nexus. I want it to grow as Android grows, and that only happens with Google.

My Mrs has a black sgs2 and comparing it to my original sgs is tough.
On the plus side the screen and speed of the sgs2 are really nice. However for everyday use i find it just that little bit too big, also the handset doesn't feel as strong as the original. Im reasonably confident i could drop my phone and survive to tell the tale, but with the 2 i find myself being really careful.
Sound on the 2 really isn't anywhere near the standard of original, i like to hear my music, although I've not seen if supercurio has made much progress on the 2.

I agree, those are awesome specs. But then again, so are the SGII's... definitely not comparable, but awesome nonetheless.
My whole point in this is, specs are just that... specs. The SGS II that my wife has is amazing specs wise. Its head over heals better specs wise than my SGS1.
Here's the problem though... aside from flashier graphics, a bigger screen, and a flash for the camera, its still 2.3.3. So its not a great leap for me to go to it.... its essentially the same phone if you think about it. Sure, the SGS2 will most likely get the upgrade to ICS, but when? After Jello or whatever 'J' is comes out?
The SGS3 will suffer the same fate. It will be up to Samsung to update it, not google.
The SGS3 will be a great phone, but you'll have to wait for a developer to harness its true power. Just like the SG2 and SGS1.
Whereas any nexus incarnation will have google behind it, and updated accordingly.

1.8 GHz dual core, 2GB RAM and samoled plus HD (read: RGB, not pentile)...daaaamn. I'm dropping cash on that the day it comes out unless I get a Nexus Prime instead. The rounded shape makes it look pretty big though.
Could be total BS though, there are two mistakes on the slide: copying is spelt wrong and the SGS doesn't have exynos cpu it has hummingbird. It's also weird that the "copying or reproduction is not allowed" is located like that, usually it would be along the bottom of each slide in a presentation so as not to interfere with any of the content. The way it is kind of screams "single fake slide".

For the record, Samsung renamed all their SoC to Exynos xxxx, even humingbird. I find this stupid, but that's how it is.

I have no problem running stock AOSP Android on any SGS, so what exactly are you waiting for? You say we have to wait for Samsung, then we have to wait for a developer... but in reality, ICS will be on the SGS2 with practically no wait at all.

Please wait a few months to nexus prime. You wont regret!

"Official Samsung Firmwares" are never instantaneous, at least not here in Canada they aren't.
I mean think about it. The original SGS was the flagship phone, and we had to wait a long to go to Froyo when it first came out to the rest of the world... then while the rest of the world was enjoying bug fixes inside 2.2.1, we in Canada never received a 2.2.1 update at all.
Then go over to Gingerbread. Took forever for Canada to yet again see 2.3.3. But that is where Canada is at right now.. INCLUDING THE CURRENT FLAGSHIP SGS2. The rest of the world is either enjoying 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 or 2.3.6.
Lets not even mention the blatant, "reproduceable for anyone" bugs that are in 2.3.3 but not 2.3.4 for our I9000M's... namely swype speech button not working at all on the SGS.
AOSP? You'd have to fill me in on where you're getting your roms that don't void warranty for using them. Thats not a point I care about, but many others out there do.
The SGS2 (My wifes) was released AFTER 2.3.4 came out... yet they put 2.3.3 on it. That make any sense to anyone?
Sure it makes sense.. Carrier branded or "Locked" phones get in the way of quick releases for obvious reasons, and beyond that, samsung has 10 billion different incarnations of the same device that may need tweaking here or there to the rom. Hence slowdowns.
Having said all this, Google Phones don't have that problem.... The Nexus Prime will be what? the 3rd or 4th phone released under the Nexus name? Easy to code for, find bugs and release an update.
All these specs we are seeing for the SGS 3 may or may not be real. Same goes for the Nexus Prime. We'll have to wait and see.... but to me, quick support and updates mean everything.

please correct me if im wrong but the galaxy nexus is made by samsung so wont we have the same software update waits that we get with the SGS1 and 2

No the nexus s is also Samsung but nexus phones get software straight from google.

I have had a Galaxy S for 6 months and I upgraded to a Galaxy S2 a couple of weeks ago.
On the SG1 sound over the earphones is better, battery lasts longer and... that's all.
Everything else is better on the SG2 but the true big reason to upgrade, for me, was the SG2'S 1Gb RAM. I multitask a lot and even with bigmem firmwares and GalaxyTuner task-killer tuning I had apps having to reload almost every time I switched back to them (especially when one of the ones open in the background was the browser, which was very often).
That's the big single reason to upgrade, for me, and I am VERY happy with the SG2 in this regard. This phone is a multitasking king.
Having said all of that, unless you have similar needs I wouldn't advise upgrading. Everything is better on the SG2 but not enough, IMO, to make the upgrade worth it. Wait for something which is a bigger improvement over the SG1, like the Note (not for everyone, I know, but going to be my next smartphone in 6 months or so) or the SG3.
BTW, I see the Galaxy Nexus mentioned a lot, to me it's inferior to my SG2 (NO SD CARD SLOT!?!) apart obviously from ICS, which the SG2 is going to get.

I had a play around on an SGS2, had the opportunity to upgrade from my i9000 relatively cheaply and even though I thought it was great, would have appreciated the additional RAM and more powerful CPU I didn't go for it. The audio quality was just crap compared to my SGS and half the time I listen to music on it whilst working or on the bus or whatever so music's important to me and in that sense it would have been a downgrade.
Also as a matter of personal taste I thought it was a little too big. You could get used to it but the way I see it even with my giant head and giant hands I just about get away with a 4 inch handset (which I find the ideal sort of size) and anything larger just seems a little ostentatious. Unfortunately there currently seems to be a trend towards giant phones which I'm hoping will die out soon because when I do get round to upgrading I don't want to feel like I have to walk around with some Trigger Happy TVesque giant.
Anyways, like the bloke above I think the RAM would be the biggest upgrade, multitasking and all that. I don't really see anything that really needs the dual core processor and GPU wise the SGX540 in the SGS is alright, and seeing as we don't currently get the games you do on iOS it's not like it's really getting pushed that much anyway.
Bottomline I'd say if music is important to you, stick to the SGS. If not and you're a multitasking fiend it's probably worth the upgrade if you can get a good deal.

Im planning on purchasing the atrix only for the finger print security feature. Do you think its a good move. Im currently using samsung galaxy W.
Does it have a functional CM9 with camera and finger print scanner. Is it easy to use or just an over hyped feature?
Hows the battery life?

Sensor is easy to use but you still have to press and then swipe. I am currently using it on CM7. I am not sure if it is working on CM9.

IMO, this phone isn't worth a penny now. You should look into a more recent phone that already has ics.

But isnt this the only phone with a finger print sensor? I love the galaxy nexus but the hardware on atrix seems good enough combined with this unique security feature.

If you are 100% sure that you want a phone with a finger print sensor then yes, the Atrix is the only one. I personally find the screen size of the Atrix which is 4 inches too small nowadays. The CPU quickly overheats even with browsing the internet or watching a video. Yes, the 1GB of ram and the dual core are nice but I would personally go with the galaxy nexus since you will be getting Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) that Google just announced a few days ago.

I'm not sure why "Atrix_Owner" is being so negitive about the Atrix, unless there has been some trouble.
The specs on the phone are decent, and it has been very responsive. At the moment CM7 is still far more tested than 9, and If you want proper support for the array of docking accessories, I would suggest a blur rom (I have reverted to using NottachTrix).
I would say if it fits your budget and you are wanting a print scanner, it is well worth it. If nothing else, the battery life is pretty amazing once you are away from a stock rom. Just make sure to search the forums for instructions on battery calibration.

Atrix is a good buy considering price / performance ratio and its unique features.

This phone is really good, and there are many cm7 based roms with working fingerprint. If Motorola honours its commitment to give us ics, then we'll have really good cm9 roms as well. I do hope the ics drivers carry over to jelly bean as well, since I highly doubt Motorola will provide an update for that once its released.

i have dual booted my atrix and it runs both the roms with zero lag !!
so hardware-wise you're not falling behind unless you want a quad core !
buying it now totally depends at the price you would be getting it !
also battery life and audio quality is excellent on this device !
still one of my favourite devices :good:

If you get the phone for less than $50, go for it. Otherwise...get a flagship phone.

I like the Atrix because of the scanner lock, I dont think it is a feature that most people use or need but for me it is a reason I am keeping my phone. If I want to surf the web or watch a movie I use my Xoom.

I have 2 atrixes. They are good phones for the price. I lucked out I think and got them both at 150 a piece used. Just found out my warranty is good on both still and sent one back to motor( there latest update messed it all up). If u want to spend more money you can get something better but in my opinion you get plenty bang for your buck

I have 1 week with a used atrix (preview owner of a xperia play) i was always a sony fan but seen the screen of the atrix i have never seen any xperia (even the new ones) with a screen so nice.
If you check specs on new phones this one is on the top. Maybe the battery is weak (if you use it for intense gaming) .
ICS? i liked it on tablet but not on my phone. I own a motorola xoom and it was a relif when ICS came because it was made for table but on phones it only adds few changes worth the upgrade. Motoblur got it right with gingerbread. ICS looks to black and bland :S

The phone is pretty good if you get it REALLY cheap.
It has some hardware features which I adore such as dedicated HDMI port, the fingerprint scanner and a pretty decent battery but the tegra 2 chipset is just weak, unless you're using CM7 you'll have animation lag and the developers community is rather dedicated but relatively tiny compared to the flagship devices from google, samsung and HTC.
If you're just looking for great performance, ROM stability and variety
get a nexus or S3, the smoothness and the ROM variety is remarkable.
I purchased my atrix for the webtop. I really hoped that it would be something I could take for some light web browsing and note taking and it was a horrible, laggy and broken experience.
Only now with a relatively stable CM7 the webtop experience is getting pretty good but instead of utilizing the full screen resolution, it simply mirrors the phone with a sub-par resolution.
Current CM9 roms can't record video, have a really unstable cam and often have graphic related issues which are not in any way a developer's fault since they have to manage without any moto libraries for the ICS.
Motorola promised ICS sometime in Q3, which means it wont be available until the last day of September and I'm being optimistic.
The device is not bad. I've seen so much worse, however it's not a middle range or a cheap device. It might be more than a year old but it's still a flagship.
I personally feel offended that my old Samsung captivate has a smooth, fast fully functional ICS that works heaps faster than my CM7 atrix.
I really hope that sometime later this year I'll take my words back, but so far I can't recommend the device as it is.

Somebody could offer me $200 for my Atrix and I still wouldn't sell it. This may be the first smartphone that I may NEVER sell. (I've owned close to 20 of them too).
Currently I just got a SGSII, and I keep putting my SIM back in my Atrix since there's too many things that don't work properly on the SGSII. For example text to fit (reflow or double tap manually doesn't work on the default browser) is just one issue. There's others.
IDK I keep looking over @ my SGSII and wondering if I may just sell it off to my friend willing to buy it. If i keep it, it will probably be for a few months. Sad that my Atrix without ICS does more than my SGSII with ICS. Really the only thing that I like about the SGSII is the screen. Yeah it really is that good, but the flaws are kinda bringing it down.
@OP yeah get the Atrix, IMHO $300 or less (being dead serious about that price) is still worth it for this phone... (and yes battery life is amazing)

I have a contract coming to an end and started looking around for a new phone. Did some research on ICS and found networks can detect tethering on ICS but not on Gingerbread.
Looking at new phones, Sony have nothing of interest. Why buy a Nexus with only 16Gb of storage? Galaxy S3 is too big. I love HTC phones but all the new HTCs are rubbish (like the Nexus, never buy an android phone without an sd card slot!). And I don't do Apple, I'm no fruit muncher.
Then I came across the Atrix. Brand new, unused, in box, 150. Webtop, hdmi, dual core, bluetooth keyboard/mouse, docks with full size usb sockets, takes 64gb sd card, mugen battery. Great custom ROMs, webtops etc. Name one new phone that does all of that!!
OK, at the moment it is gingerbread only, but Motorola will release ICS for ATT version later this year and there will be some good custom ROMs after that.
I jumped at the chance to own this android icon.

At $150 or 150 €, the Atrix is still a very interesting buy...

I'm not sure about the S2 (as I never had one), but the Atrix seems to me a little weak. Both my Moto Droid 1 and 2 suffered pretty bad (dropped both several times, carried them in the same pocket as keys...) and, after more than one year of constant use, they both have no scratches on the screen.
My Atrix, on the other hand, got 2 scratches on the screen in the very first week I had it, didn't fall or anything. After this I searched the web looking for some reviews and saw some impact tests on youtube, even little drops made the phones' screen crash completely (or, at least, the glass)

no nividia driver... dont buy... S2 more resources.

Dont even think about it: Go for the Galaxy SII.
Both phones are ok, but the Atrix has Nvidia Tegra 2 Soc. Nvidia is the worst company in the world, no drivers for ICS, no updates, no customer satisfaction, nada.

The Atrix is a good phone, but its outdated now (Now it has two successors, The Artix 2 and Atrix HD). Even with its Duel core Tegra 2, its stock is Gingerbread, so unless your willing to root and flash newer android versions, that feature is useless. I know both of thse points apply to the S II, so I would recommend getting a newer phone that's not those two if you like to stay on the cutting edge.
However if you are limited in your phone choice or are for some reason die hard on getting these two phones I would say give the S II a try given its popularly and its moderately better features I see in the link you provided without any other research. (Bluetooth 3 vs. 2.1, a better camera, 1GHz vs. 1.2 GHz, among other things). But here's a few of the pros and cons I have had with my Atrix:
Pros:
- Durable, has taken a few good falls of 4 ft.+ (With a case of course.)
- Good sound quality on speaker and bright LEDs.
- Webtop is fun if you are a linux fan, which is why I keep a backup of stock so I can play with it once in a while (I run Jelly Bean)
Cons:
- Warms up on longish data usage (1 min+)
- My first Atrix's screen blacked out the night I got it.
- Wifi and Network reception is noticeably worse compared to other devices I have around.

The SGS2 is superior at the moment only because it has ICS. Once ICS comes out for the Atrix in the next couple of months, the Atrix is superior IMO. The Atrix will get JB with or without Motorola's help. We can't be sure either will get KLP. So, I'd go with the Atrix.

If you're on a budget, Atrix is much more repairable as no Glue was used. So, broken screens, headphone jacks etc are an easy DIY compared to the SG2. But, the Samsung has much better dev support. Battery life is also significantly better on the Atrix.
The biggest advantage is that you can get a cheap lapdock for under a 100$ & Atrix is cheaper to buy. For about fifty more you get a phone and a pad...
At the end of the day, it depends which features are more important for you, both are a good buy.

y if u are buying used one then go for galaxy s2 unless u dont have enough money then go for atrix there both great phones( i also like atrix 2 but bad camera and no unlocked bootloader) if u do drop ur phone i would get atrix. cause u wouldnt wanna be dropping expensive phone but i suggest galaxy s3 if u getting it new from at&t

I currently have both phones, and use the the atrix as a daily driver, but prefer the S2.

I currently own both phones. I use both each week, with the I9100 slightly more.
It's tough to say which one is better, since i9100 has a stable CM9 and the Atrix CM9 doesn't have all the drivers yet.
If you had to make a decision "today" I'd say get the i9100 since the screen is better (not in resolution but in looks) and it has the CM9 with CM10 gaining ground.
If you can wait, then wait this quarter and check out the CM9/10 Atrix reviews. The Atrix call quality IMO is better, and many can't live without the fingerprint reader.
Either way BOTH phones are a solid buy, and you really can't lose with either phone IMHO...

Back when I was due for an upgrade on AT&T I had this same decision to make. A friend of mine kept telling me how great the Atrix was but I hadn't ever seen one up close. Another friend of mine had the SII and I thought it was pretty cool but the battery life was horrid. After doing a lot of research (mainly sifting through phonearena) I decided to get the Atrix. After rooting and deblurring my phone with a cm7 ROM to match the cm7 on my friends SII, we did a lot of comparing. My Atrix benched higher in just about every aspect even on a 1GHz kernel and my battery life was better by far. After bumping up to 1.2GHz it was just overkill. I am more than satisfied with my Atrix. I'd say look for someone with both phones and look at them both.

The Atrix hardware has been pretty rock-solid for me. It is outdated by better phones now, but if you can pick one up for cheap, I say go for it. It is turning into a pretty sweet hacker phone, with good xda support.

I have a atrix 4g n defy... Defy is low end but a very good mobile with stable cm9 n cm10 roms... atrix 4g to be honest is a problem... but good hardware.... i will go for droid maxx next...
