I've bean a happy camper on 6.2.1 rooted with Go interface. Is there any trully compelling reson to change to 6.2.2 with the potential inherent headaches?
it's a bit snappier and a fullscreen mode for browser
you can update without any headache wit the nfx update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452082
The Kindle Fire updated itself without even asking me. I was rooted on 6.2.1 and then was updated to 6.2.2. It was pretty annoying because I lost root access, but my market (Android Marketplace) still worked luckily. I'd say the fixes are worth it if you know how to use Kindle Fire Utility which makes it really easy to root (re-root).

Hey everyone, I just recieved my TF today. As a die hard fan of android I've rooted every single device I have owned. However, after reading through many threads I noted that the only way to root to 3.1 is to root while still on 3.01 then flash a rom thats 3.1, one big reason I like to root is custom roms and custom kernals. seeing that there is no custom kernals out for 3.1 and very limited 3.1 roms I wonder if there really is any advantage to rooting and then flashing to 3.1? I'm still on stock and the only thing that's stopping me from updating OTA is the fact that it seems that a lot of others is having problems downgrading to 3.01 in order to root. So my question is should I root or just update to 3.1?
I kinda feel the same. I'll root the **** out of any phone but I don't know about a tablet.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
to be able to use adb over wifi is reason enough for me to root
I rooted my Dinc to:
Remove crapware
Use custom ROMs that provided great features not available stock
Access wifi tethering
Disable those damn LEDs when I'm reading at night
The only thing that looks comparable to the Xfrmr would be crapware, but I'd only remove an app or two. Not much.
Consequently, I've not found a compelling reason to root yet either. Now if Cyanogen was to develop a Honeycomb ROM I'd have to reconsider.
I would have to agree with you guys. I have yet to root my tablet because I don't think I would gain much. Sure, I could remove a few apps I don't use, but really, they aren't causing me any issues yet.
I am happy remaining stock unless something comes along that gives me reason. I root my phones for custom roms and tethering, but that's it.

those are the same reasons i root too, so did you guys update to 3.1 OTA or are you still on 3.01?
I'm on 3.1 and rooted, didn't even consider not doing I'd feel crippled without:
Native samba server,
Wireless ADB,
Removing the ASUS junk apps
Busybox
Ability to install Android Movie studio
Titanium backup
And the second Kernel source comes out
cifs mount in kernel
I have a rooted KF in stock rom but I just wanted to know if I install a custom rom my KF will still be registered to amazon as a fire or just as another adroid device? and will the apps in the Amazon appstore that say XX (Kindle Fire edition) still work or not?

Kinda depends on what your really looking for if you just want a fresh look then I would recommend side loading a launcher like go launcher or adw that way you can still make full use of the amazon market and with voodoo root keeper amazon video works fine if you rom your kindle then you can just use the Google android market with launcher you can have both what I do to make use of both is keep a backup of my rooted stock 6.2.1 and flip back and forth via twrp to stock or my favorite rom of the moment by just restoring a backup . Always make a fresh backup so you don't loose changes of apps that occur with one or the other sounds like a hassle but works for me. You may find once you rom your kindle you rarely go back to stock. Make sure you do full wipes when swapping and everything will run smooth. I'm sure that others have ways they work around being able to make full use of both the amazon market and the Google android market but I'm happy with my method and the diversity I get from trying lots of different roms
I see lots of instructions for "re-rooting" an updated a550, and other options, but I bought my a550 new a month or so ago, did not root, got the ICS update this weekend and would now like to root it so that I can use a few apps that require root (like the cisco anyconnect client).
I hate to look like a complete Noob, but with so much information floating around out there, much of it for folks who rooted first while on HC, I'm having a hard time finding the information I need. Would anyone else who might found this information be willing to share? Hopefully accepting ICS on a device that was never rooted before does not preclude rooting this thing. I really like the tablet but would like it even more if I could connect to the VPN at work, and that requires root.
Hey there.
If im not mistaken, Sounds like you did the same as me and did not root your tablet on HC and went ahead and installed the official ICS from acer.
I also did this then went ahead and rooted it by this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593
Worked for me even though others in that thread were having trouble last time i checked mine worked first time.
Good Luck

This seems a bit circumspect. While excited, I am not willing to brick my Kindle to get the new update. Does anyone know if it is possible to install this in a slot rather than on your daily running rom?

You need to flash new boot.img to use this update. So...only stock slot update. And lose root and safestrap for indefinite time.

Okay. I went back to unrooted stock to await the update, but forgot how annoying it was. Your screenshots do imply that the update has a better ui, Thanks.

Updated succesfully for hdx 7
p/s : Can't not root with towel root
Probably going on a long shot here, but how about Framaroot?
So, I bit the bullet. It is nice so far. Does anyone know where sub debugging went? Without that, no root.
Edit... It is, oddly enough, right where it is supposed to be. Tap your serial a few times to enable developer options. Still, no towelroot as advertised.

I regret to upgrade the Fire OS4
.....there is no new features
and towelroot can not work on that...
I just want to know how to downgrade to 4.2.2....

Read near the end of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782159&page=20
So far, this is the only method we know of to downgrade on higher firmware versions.
However, keep in mind that the instructions were written for up to 13.3.2.6/14.3.2.6. As such, it may very well brick your device.
Perhaps @kaeru00 may have some input on this.
Yeah, This method can’t work for now。

This method will brick the device。。
I think I need to wait for a long time.
Thank you all the same。
I think this version 13.4.1.1 is unofficial of Amazon . We only have download link of HDX 7 but not HDX 8,9 , in case the NEW HD 8,9 had Sangria official .
This version is official. Maybe some bugs were found in appolo and we will see x.4.1.2 at this week for both devices . Or just apollo's link will alive. Anyway this is Fire OS 4 .
About downgrade...Without root it is impossible.
About "new features" .. All of this was described here - https://developer.amazon.com/public...mp-The-Next-Generation-Of-Amazon-Fire-Tablets Any surprises.

And what if we have playstore before updating? can it still work after updating and losing root?
Thanks

One nice new feature is widgets are supported out of the box. There is a bug where it pretends to let you select a default launcher, but it does not stick.
Someone tried Vroot on this build?
Just bought this yesterday and updated it to the latest firmware. I checked around here and couldn't find much on the newer version of this tablet. I see there are custom roms for Fire tablets. I've used the Fire Toolbox already but I would love to root my device and install both twrp and a custom rom on it, is this possible on this table running the latest firmware?
Can any one help point me in the right direction please? Thanks for the help and time.
No current roms, but you can do a lot fir Fire Toolkit to make it as straight Android as possible. Currently though, you're screwed if you let it update to the newest Fire OS version, as you can no longer disable OTA updates and you can't install a custom launcher. If I were you, I'd return it and get a new one. Don't connect it to wifi, and skip initial setup. Then immediately disable updates with Fire Toolkit and install Nova Launcher or another 3rd party launcher.
I was recently in the same boat. Accidentally let it my new HD10 update since it automatically connected to my home wifi (damn Amazon saving my wifi passwords even though I tell them no on every device!). I returned it and got a new one. Made sure to turn off my home wifi before booting up the tablet. At that point, click any wifi network, then cancel when it asks for a password. You can then skip setup and begin setting it up with Fire Toolkit. I firstly disable lock screen ads (which also turns off updates), then register the device to my Amazon account, then complete the other tasks in Toolkit.
Does anybody know if there is work being done on rooting the current Fire HD 10 Plus?
I am thinking about buying one for travelling and Home Automation, but if it cannot be rooted it will probably not be worth buying.

Eventually it will be however for the moment, using Firetool box is the next best thing and so easy to get up and running that IMO beats rooting for how easy it is to use.
How about hard resetting your tablet to its default OS version, install a non-root firewall, block OTA updates and related processes then customize with fire toolbox to have an almost true android experience.. anybody know which files to block? And would this actually worK?

How would you go about hard-ressetting it?
I have several Amazon Fire HD 8s and HD 10's that are exhibiting the issue of not being able to display some webpages due to the out of date Android System Webview. I tried installing the latest version which is 95 but the version that Fully Kiosk reports is 59 (which is out of date). My fire OS is verion 5. How can I overcome this issue?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Noroot firewall from playstore will block all amazon communication including OTA updates. Just allow your browser through the firewall and block the rest except perhaps google play and you will have no further problem.
Just got a fire hd10 and it came with 7.3.something, and quickly did a factory reset so that it doesn't do the updates.
Can I install custom rom on this or not?
