Playin w/ roms on my new Rezound... Anyways I noticed the wife's KF got updated to 6.2.2 and FFF/twrp got axed.. Came back lookin for an updated way to get it back quickly. From my last 30 mins or so of reading it would seem the KFU and burritoroot are like fragmented now or something. I tried KFU for twrp and it failed- then I saw there was a burritoroot v3 but it doesn't install a recovery. Just wondering if there's any automated way to get it all done again or if I'm gonna have to keep searchin for links to recoveries etc. If so, no biggie- but if there's an easy way to get twrp back obviously I'll go that route. If there's a thread on it- I must just be missing it- granted I've had a few tonight.
I rooted my 6.2.2 kindle with burritoroot3 and then used KFU to flash TWRP recovery. Make sure you have the updated run.bat found in the KFU thread before trying to flash TWRP
Yep- I found the post from stevenmirabito seconds after posting this damn thread and I've already got twrp back on.. Sorry for the wasted thread.. Still kinda wondering why BR3 hasn't been worked into a new version of KFU but I'm sure if I was really interested enough there's prob some threads on that too- hopefully no drama. Anyways- thanks BluesHawk for responding to my question.
One more thing- I'm assuming it's ok to remove the old burritoroot? Got two icons now

Unnecessary... Just perm root it and be done with it.
Use OTA Rootkeeper and you will be able to view your Amazon Videos.
Oh ok cool- like I said I've been gone for a while.. Pretty sure last time I was active on these forums OTA RK was a no go for prime video.
It has been the only method that I've ever seen.
o Using OTA rootkeeper use Unroot
o Go to settings -> Applications
o find Amazon Video and force close it
Now run Amazon Video again and it will work. You can even go back and root using OTR Rootkeeper and it will still work until your reboot your device.
This works on the Stock roms... CM7 and ICS doesn't
Cool thx for the info.. Last time (6.2.1) I did perm root, installed market and other apps, FFF&twrp, then unrooted (had to manual delete su files on the device)- so OTA-RK sounds easier. Unfortunately, this is my wife's fire- so I don't get to have that much fun with it. She's way into the amazon ecosystem and likes the stock rom.. So unless ICS final just kicks complete ass- I'll prob have to buy my own to play w/ those roms.. Not even sure why I ended up putting twrp back on it really- I just can't help myself!

If on CM7, you can leave rooted, use the browser to view Amazon video if you set the user agent to Linux desktop, and that works.

Hey. I recently purchased a Kindle Fire and rooted it without a problem. I had problems installing the Android Market as every time I open it and I try to sign up , it force closes.
This morning I woke up to find that superuser had disappeared. I wasn't sure if this meant that it was just superuser gone , or if my kindle been unrooted.
I tried to reroot using SuperOneClick it but every time I try , it gets stuck on step 7 . I have a feeling that it was somehow unrooted as when I try to reroot it , it doesn't give me the 'already rooted' prompt.
So... the questions. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way I can get superuser back? Is there any way (without terminal , or rootchecker) to see if my kindle is rooted?
Any help would be appreciated

The SuperOneClick is not the current rooting method.

A vast majority of the people asking for help, didn't bother reading through the whole process, or bothering to see what other users had problems with in the very threads that talked about how to do it. Just doing a little reading alone would solve most of their problems as they keep asking the same thing over and over and over...
did u have the 6.2 or 6.1 update on there and when u woke up it was the 6.2.1 update on there? that could bethe prob as 6.2.1 update breaks root and super one click doesnt work anymore
Interesting issue I found today.
I have an Amazon Kindle Fire that I rooted using the Burrito Root method as described in the stickied thread above entitled: "Video guide to rooting etc..."
I followed the instructions as presented in the You Tube video, and achieved root.
I loaded the android market and downloaded the apps I had previously with no dramas. They all run fine.
Last night I downloaded Voodoo OTA Root Keeper as described in another thread.
I got to playing around with it today, and it said I did not have root access. Used the root checker utility as posted in the you tube video previously mentioned, and it too says no root. Attempted to use root explorer, and again no root. Power off and back on, same deal.
Weird to say the least. As far as I know, I have not had an update to the kindle firmware (current version: 6.2.1_user_3103920) which appears to be unchanged since I rooted. There were no issues when I rooted, and all functioned as it should have (rooted I mean)
The only thing I did do in the previous week was download an amazon movie to the device.
Any ideas on WTF happened?
I had been considering installing TWRP...now I am wondering if I should re-root using the same method, or uninstall the stuff I put on in the originl root, and just load TWRP, and do it that way?

Burrito Root gives you root through ADB. In order to get permanent root that's usable by applications such as Root Explorer you need to push the su binary and install the superuser.apk. Not sure if that was covered in whatever video you watched, but there should be instructions and download links kicking around here and rootzwiki somewhere.
Easiest way is to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 and use option 2 then 3. should be good to go after that.

For clarification, as I failed to mention it in my original post.
Superuser.apk was installed, as were all commands done through ADB as prescribed...it appeared to have worked flawlessly. Until now. LOL
I am new to the fire, not new to android.
It is rather puzzling, as I have never experienced this type of issue before.

Superuser.apk and the su binary are separate things. These are the original instructions. Not sure what the video you watched suggests.
The su binary goes into /system/xbin and you need to:

adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
When Superuser.apk is installed it gets put into /data/app. If you've only done one, but not the other, that's most likely causing your issue.
*Edit* In your original post you mentioned messing around with OTA Rootkeeper. There's a checkbox that backs up the su binary. Maybe it was unchecked when you temporarily unrooted? There's also a button that deletes the su binary backup. Very possible one of these led to your issue.

I had looked at that. My question doing it using that method:
Do I need to uninstall/delete anything from my previous root? or will that program overwrite superuser, etc?

I copied and pasted all of the commands into the adb shell as nat3mil describes.
I wonder where I went wrong? Weird.
Can I just connect the kindle to my computer, run burrito root, and then re-push the commands via adb as described ? I just don't wanna bork it up and brick it.

It should be fine. I remember having to run it twice and I never went through and deleted anything. Here's something interesting: I checked both /system/bin and /system/xbin when I was rooted and unrooted. Even though I originally installed su to /system/xbin, OTA Rootkeeper places it into /system/bin upon restoring root.
I'm not saying you should do that, but just thought I'd bring it up. Maybe that has to do with why you lost root privelages out of the blue.
Also, I know certain Superuser.apk's were not working properly. The one included in the zip file at Androidpolice is actually com.noshufou.android.su-1.apk. Perhaps try using that one instead?
*Edit2* I just looked at the official thread and noticed he updated the zip and it now uses Superuser.apk. Not sure if Androidpolice ever updated their zip as well.

KFU will tell you if it is rooted or not. just connect KF to your pc and run no harm going that far.
I am in the same situation as you are, same steps. Rooted with BR, but didn't root all the way, yet was still able to put the market apps.
My kindle Fire (non-HD) just "lost" root too!!!
No idea how it happened.
I successfully rooted last summer with the KFU and have temp un-rooted/re-rooted MANY times with OTA Rootkeeper . I went in yesterday to root, but the buttons were gone in Rootkeeper and it shows that I'm NOT rooted.
I tried to update/reinstall Superuser but I probably just made things worse.
Is there any way for me to get root back without losing all of my data??
If not, I suspect that I have to go back to KFU and do the root process again, but will this brick my Kindle???

If you used KFU the first time it should work again as long as you can get good communication and the driver is still installed correctly. Thanks Thepooch! I'm at work now, so I'll have to wait until I get home to my laptop to try.
I had no problems with the driver or communication, so that "shouldn't" be an issue.
The root process with KFU actually went painfully smoothly when I did it over the summer so hopefully second time will be the same.
I still have twrp and fff, but I'm not sure what you mean by "just flash modaco if you`re on stock", but I'll come back if i brick.
While losing my data would suck, I won't lose much sleep if I have to wipe it.

Took less than 5 minutes to get the root back with KFU.
I've gotten the OTA update from Google three times and each time my system remains at 4.1.2. I've tried to update it manually using these instructions exactly: http://genius-tips.com/how-to-update-nexus-7-to-android-4-2-1-jelly-bean-cleanrom-custom-firmware/ and still my system remains at 4.1.2. What do I do? I'm becoming extremely frustrated. It's almost hard to type this out because I want to shove my fist through something.
EDIT: I'm also rooted. Should I unroot for the update? What happened to convenience if that's the issue? Serious first world problems right now.
EDIT EDIT: I just got the OTA update popup for 4.2 but I'll save it for later. Should I unroot? Or perhaps there's an app for this...

FIRST you say your on 4.1 you are rooted.. In order to help you we need to know more about your setup..
1. HOW DID YOU ROOT THE TABLET
2. ARE YOU ON CUSTOM RECOVERY
3.ARE YOU ON STOCK ROM (ASSUMING THIS IS YES)
4. Have you used a Root Tool kit on your device. (IF SO WHICH ONE)
5.Take slow deep breath and answer all the above correctly..
6. what version of nexus do you have . (not that important just curious) if its the 3g it will matter..
Post back and you will get help .
Also post exactly everything you have done and tried.. I think its simple your on custom recovery EASY FIX..

A friend of mine suggested I try Voodoo OTA RootKeeper
I ended up trying OTA RootKeeper and it did allow me to install the update and so far it's working great. Thanks for the attempt!
P.S.: Sorry for being crazy in OP. I'm new to rooting, modding, etc. so I'm sure I could've solved this on my own with a bit more time but when it comes to messing with systems and just generally being a n00b, I get more upset at my own lack of knowledge. Time heals all wounds...
Ultra Noob here
So I had my first android-TF700 for about 10 days. Played around with it, read around this site and realized it was a tablet for someone with experience.
So I now have an N10. Charged, not even turned on yet. What should be my next steps? I see a couple toolkits,an auto root, and ASOP-
What would you suggest a noob start with?

Depends on what you want to accomplish with the device. If you want to try or at least gain some understanding as to the different features you might be interested in, read the first post of the different ROMs available and see if anything sounds enticing.
I personally use me for taking media with me on the go, be it news or videos, so I don't have to carry a laptop around. I'm on CM10.1 right now but cycle through every rom to see how everything works. Good luck!

First step is unlocking the bootloader and installing root and a custom recovery. Even if you don't need it at the moment there will come the time you want to try it. When you unlock the bootloader you will lose all your data so it's the best if you do it at first when you get your tablet.

What do you mean a custom recovery?
Are there other ways to root the device with out wiping it? Seems like most android smartphone you can load up an exe or something to shift the su app around or something.

Found the threads. Look easy enough to follow. Something I'm not understanding . What does it mean to install a recovery? whats the purpose of that. I've search and (at least not yet) found a good description of what/why that it. I'm sensing that devices are different (duh!) and I didnt need to install a "recovery" on my Droid Bionic when I rooted it, but this N10 must be different.
With the custom recovery you're able to install zip files, make a backup of your Rom,... You can't do that with the recovery that comes with the nexus 10.
Recovery is like a separate system that you can boot to, if you want to mess with the main Android OS. Like rauschkugl said, you can boot to a custom recovery to flash different ROMs that are distributed in flashable ZIP files. You can also make (or if anything goes wrong, revert to) a complete backup of the device's internal memory.

I picked all in one click option and choose TWRP. I fell asleep when I got to TWRP, so I guess I will have to reboot to the recovery page to pull it up.

Do I need to do any backup or anything with TWRP if it's a new tablet? if so what and how ? Please point me to a tutorial for noob types.

Great questions. You are one step ahead of me on my new N10. I've not turned it on yet, really wanting to, but I dont want to do much to it, until after I unlock/root/ and learn how to make backups. Though since i've got a TBpro license, I'll probably use that. I dont want to tweak the OS. so I think I need root just to be able to run TBpro. I just want to be sure I'll still get OFA updates, and I want to learn more about if and how backup work for a multi-user N10.

I would suggest straight away that you perform a backup with TWRP, so that if you decide to delve deeper into ROMs and playing with your system files, you'll have a completely stock backup to rely on. Simply boot into recovery and select 'Backup', then you can rename the backup file if you want, then swipe the slider across and wait, then you're done!
When it comes to system updates, you'll most likely have to use your root toolkit to unroot the device, else the update will fail. You can however continue to update all your apps as you normally would. Hope this helped

So I kinda started from the beginning of Droid ModderX's video, picked yes to update the toolkit i had donated- (got an update) accessed TWRP (pain to get to- could I download goomanager now after I have TWRP?) and backed up my stock set up just as you said Huggogguh :good:.
Then I went ahead and touched "install system update" that was hanging around in the upper left corner of my tablet (I'm being really specific for other noobs) and it updated my system to 4.2.1 and my apps. Build number changed to JOP4OD
Looked at root checker app. I am now not rooted, so I will go back through toolkit and choose 4 once I am in fastboot mode to reroot I hope:fingers-crossed:.

Sounds like a great success then so are you saying that you performed the system update while you were rooted and you retained the root access?
Nope. Got the OTA system update and it knocked me off root. But I got it back easily with the toolkit.

Today, while doing my daily reading blogs, I found an article by El Android Libre (in spanish) of an app for rooting Android devices quickly, so I decided to try it on my own and effectively, the application success to root my Fire HD 6!. His name is KingRoot. I'm very excited, it worked, and so far I have not noticed errors in the operation of my tablet (at least, today). This process is not yet totally safe and we have very little information. Indeed, it is possible to root the Fire HD 6/7, but there's a very high risk of the device is unable to boot.
Unroot instructions:
Open the KingUser app
Press the Settings button (upper right corner)
Then press the "Remove Permission Root" option
Confirm and wait a few minutes.
Reboot

The SU binary will be saved in the /system/bin folder after rooting the Fire HD 6, so I think that while this binary is not deleted you can use any other app for root management like SuperSu.

I restarted my Fire several times throughout the day and still root.
What is the app you've uninstalled?

Well, I try sideload SuperSu directly on my Fire but when I open it, the app ask me to update the su binaries, and a few seconds later shows me an error...
Any suggestions?

The problem is that if you installed a wrong recovery, can bricking the system. Not sure if CWM Recovery works here.

I'm wondering how similar this Kindle is to the previous version software wise. Maybe some of the older methods will work now we have root?
This is the situation right now:
It is now possible to root the Fire HD 6 (and 7, as I'm reading)
The root is persistent while you don't uninstall the KingRoot app.
For now, you can not install the SuperSU app (throws an error)
Installing System Tuner Pro gives you the ability to uninstall system applications, review the logs of the kernel, modify the file build.prop, among other things (Other apps can also be used for do this...).
It is not possible (for now) install Gapps until to find an advanced recovery that it works with this tablet. Despite this, you can install some Google apps like YouTube, Google, and Google Search taking an alternative way. Read this thread for more information:
