I've noticed my latest flash to onecosmic's RC4 was still battery hungry, but some tweaking with SetCPU and using NovaLauncher, as well as a proper modem for my area seem to have it straightened out again.
Does it tell you if the screen is using more than the cpu or not?

My phone had really good battery levels until yesturday.
It crashed while I was watching videos in h/w mode then down hill from there. 100% gone in 5 hours. I have a feeling the GPU has blown??? Might try another rom.
Using Docs master rom???
Any ideas
Hi there,
Firstly, I would ensure we rule out a hardware issue by flashing a completely stock firmware using ODIN. It would be best if you remove your external SD card, and backup all your data on your internal memory and then wipe as much as you can as well. After flashing a stock firmware, see if there is a battery drain still, and if so you will at least have more evidence to suggest there is a hardware issue.
CPU Spy is an excellent app for discovering issues whereby the CPU is being utilised too much - additionally, System Panel is also excellent. However, again neither of these will be able to determine if there is a hardware issue of some sort, only excessive CPU usage.
WRT EFS backup, my preferred method it to use Root Explorer and create an archive whilst in the EFS directory. It will put the archive on your SD card - and it takes no time at all.
Some of the apps I mentioned will be charged for I guess, but not very much.
If you need more details, let me know.
:-( my battery was perfect. I installed onecosmic and it was fine battery was normal after few days my battery started draining fast 1% every 3 minutes and I flashed Miui mintberry rom and still problem exist. Even wifi off and background data off and edge too it drains 1% 3-5 minutes while screen is off or deep sleep it drain 1% evey hour
Last night I flashed back to stock rom 2.3.4 and rooted and installed Miui mintberry rom again still problem exist
What should I do :-( plx help

ok.
You need to examine this problem to narrow down the cause. You will have to invest some time and possibly a little money to achieve that! If all else fails, you can of course buy a new battery - but it's best to work out where the drain is coming from.
Have you checked the battery log in Android settings?
Also consider installing OS Monitor, it is free and allows you to look at what processes are running.

That's quite some drain!
It's important to get the right tool for the job here and the apps you are using aren't detailed enough unfortunately.
System Panel will inspect android system apps to check where CPU usage is and log it making it very easy to determine what is happneing.
BetterbatteryStats will allow you to check on the WakeLocks which are a big cause of battery drain when the screen is off.
I use them both - but must say I haven't see such fast battery drain as yours.
Throughout this process, I suggest you stick to a ROM as close to stock as possible but prefereably with CWM.
OK I installed os monitor

ok; excellent.
If you need help turning on the "monitor" mode of system panel let me know. Otherwise just turn it on and then use your phone normally for a while (i.e. allow time for it to be left with screen off as well) after that stats will be collected to show how the CPU has been used over that time.
Also check CPU Spy and make sure that the CPU isn't "stuck" in 1000Mhz

Hy guys, I know that you're always disturbed by these questions, but I'd really like to find an exact answer for my question: is there any solution to increase the battery life with one charging? I use Damnian kernel and ultimate ROM with the basically given setups. Today with absoluttely no usage my SGS scored an 8 hour long battery result, which isn't so good I guess. So what I need to change or recalibrate to improve these results? In some other topics I read about 2 days bat life, but I can't believe that... in the meantime I'm writing this post my battery indicator shows 96 % and when I started typing it was on 100%!!
Thanks for your help, and I hope I'll get a useful feedback.
Best regards, Henry (95% now!).

I usually get a whole day use with lots of use. Maybe you installed something which drains your battery?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I didn't install any program which could use my battery so hard. I was on Darky 9.3 before, than I upgraded to 9.4but there was some issue with calling and wifi driver and finally I installed damnian kernel and ultimate rom via CWM. I have to mention that neither with 9.3 nor with 9.4 I hadn't got a good battery life, but its annoying that with no use(screen off) it drains 30-40% in 5-6 hours...

Some simple tips that you may already know:
Turn off wifi when you're not actively using it. Same with gps.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I usually turn off the wifi if I don't use it, the GPS too, and yesterday I also switched to edge instead of 3g... I'm on 92% now, is that okay? Who knows that there is no problem with my battery just I'm so scared about that, LOL

I think is the network problem.I have SGS in vodafone UK with stock jpy and that drains battery like hell.Friend of mine have the same jpy stock rom with orange UK and his phone can last about 2 days when mine last only hardly one day.And also i think it depends about the signal strenght is well.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
If flashing to a new ROM is not too much of a hassle, then try the new JVK stock Samsung ROM.
I have always been on Samsung ROMs and battery was ok for me. My last ROM was 2.2.1 JPY (Nordic), I could easily use it for a day (~12 hrs) with moderate use : ~40 SMSs couple of short (1~2min) calls, always ON 3G data with push gmail, and gtalk, few internet searches and about 30 mins of streaming or MP3 audio with WiFi/GPS/BT Off and screen brightness at 25% from min allowed.
Now using 2.3.3 JVK Samsung stock ROM. Still too early to say for sure, but seems like the battery life is as good (if not better) than JPY.
With screen off and idling (only receiving texts, emails and few missed calls) it once lasted a whole weekend (2 days). So 8 hrs with no use means there is something definitely wrong with your setup. Either its the ROM, a background app, low signal coverage or a defective battery.
Reality:
1 - From a clean install (no 3rd party apps), you should see no more than 1-2% / hour drain when idling (screen-off) but with push enabled and 3G or WiFi connected.
2 - If you're not getting that, do a wipe and re-install 3rd party apps one at a time and after each install let the phone idle for an hour and confirm < 1% drain. If you see a jump, uninstall the last app and try again.
3 - The screen eats battery like it's going out of style. You can expected 2-3 hours of screen time on auto-brightness and you average 50% brightness, and approx. 4 hours on min brightness.
4 - WiFi when enabled but not connected (meaning it's searching for WiFi) will suck down battery. Disable WiFi when not in range.
Other battery tips:
>> Calibrating the battery is overrated. After a complete ROM flash that wipes /system (and therefore the battery stats). Run the phone until it dies, then charge it till it's full. Then just use it like normal.
>> Disable haptic feedback and any keypress / touch sounds.
This is my experience with any 2.2 / 2.2.1 ROM I have tried, and I always use SpeedMod and the same (JL2) modem.
I just waked up and I'm on 40%!!! So during the night it drains about 50% with wifi off, GPS off, and 3g off... so can you guys give me a link where can i download modems from?
I had installed damnian kernel and ultimate rom with full wipe when I noticed that there is a lot of ROM problems with Darky 9.4, but there is no change...
I hope that is software problem not a hardware one. :-S

Hi, I'm on 9.5 (speedmod kernel)and at first it was thirsty as hell. Look in spare parts app that comes with darky and maybe try setting the activity process manager to aggressive from normal. It might help.
Also have a look in settings/applications/ manage applications and running. Go through the list and try doing a force stop on any apps that aren't needed. Since I switched to aggressive mine uses 2% overnight with wifi on.
Hope that helps.
Ash
Sent from my ****ing awesome GT-I9000
I checked in the spare parts what is using my battery. So these are my results:
Totally since boot:
Running:66%
Screen on:16%
Phone on: 0,2%
Wifi on:59,9%
Wifi running:59,9%
I don't even use online apps, only my Gmail and yahoo account is syncronising and alert me if I get a new mail, and I have Facebook widget and that's all. I don't think these programs may cause that horribly battery life... what if I delete facebook?
Oh, and I don't really understand why the screen on is using a less percentage than the (system) running?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
The SGS battery is always going to be not so great. Try my setup, I usually get around 1.5/2 days usage. I'm on Darky 9.5 running the SpeedMod kernel (best for battery life IMO). I also leave the WIFI ON constantly (uses less battery than 3G/HDSPA/EDGE when indoors) and I use JuiceDefender, which stops programs syncing in the background until it decides necessary and turns off the data connection while the screen is off.
3G Settings
As what I posted on the previous member's complains on SGS battery drains,
Try this:
Method 1
Go to Settings> Wireless Settings > Mobile Settings > Network Mode
if the current setting is Auto GSM/WCDMA, then change it to your prefered network:
1) GSM Only = means WAP Internet / Call / SMS only ( You can't use video call or high speed packet access)
2) WCDMA Only = same as above but with video calls and HSPA
Method 2
Download an app from the market like 3G/2G On/Off by Curvefish.
Use 2G Mode only when Idle.
And let us know the results ^^
I am not pro regarding battery issues but having network scanning drains the phone. I tested it even on my Symbian smartphones and It saves battery. just trying to help
Thanks for the fast replies, I will try to install back the darky pack, but I need to flash the resurrection edition with Odin first, after that I have to flash 9.5 via cwm. Some extended idling:
Cognition 1.13 with CF KG1 Kernel, Phone undervolted as in screenshot + GPU @ 750mV for both states.
Android OS still taking 1h15m CPU time in that screenshot, which, in my experience in this case is I *think* because of Skype running all the time there. Also Trillian connected to multiple services running constantly with Wifi.
I'm using Cognition 1.15 with modified 1.4 ninmphetamine kernel, very good battery life so far! (probably the best compared to villainrom and litening rom for me)
Having fixed my awake issue my battery life is reasonable but i expected betted with villainrom + nenphetamine custom + undervolt.
We need to guage some good comparisons id like to get an extended idle test dont know if i can leave my phone for that long. LOL
Btw How did you undervolt gpu?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I would stay away from these newer kernels like Nephetamine until they actually mature. I alslo tried some other custom kernels and they kinda drained the battery way more. So I'm sticking to a plain kernel like CF for the moment. Also seems better to stick to the normal ondemand governor.
Undervolting GPU via Tegrak Ultimate, it's worth it imho, especially since I basically shaved off 25% voltage without any issues.

Guys its me again.
Flashed Pre-Rooted DDJP6 and G3MOD 1.8 extreme kernel.
Charged for 2 hours, After that taken my phone out of charging suddenly battery started draining to 10% and phone switched off. i waited for a while and restarted phone battery was 80% and suddenly 10% again and phone switched off.
In the past i had been changing rom since last 4-5 days from Kyrillos to Indroid to XXPJF to DDJP6.
Kindly tell me what is the issue?? Many suggest to calibrate, when we calibrate we have to drain it in reality and recharge it to 100% but my phone if showing fake battery it drains instantly so how do we really drain it and re-charge??
I want to solve this problem asap. As my phone is almost unusable, i suspected SETCPU is causing this so i uninstalled it but still no use.
Please help i don't want to re-flash the rom and lose the data again
There is a high possibility that your battery is damaged since, as I understood, this problem persists in more than one roms.

first change the kernel to G3MOD v1.9 lite. be rooted. using root explorer delete batterystats.bin or install BatteryCallibration.apk charge upto 100% then let it drain. use battery monitor widget to check health and voltage of the battery. report it here. if health is good and voltage is >4150mV, u are good.
Actually its such an pain to again n again change the kernel i can't doo al data2sd and stuf again
btw i had cleared battery stats from the recovery so i don't have a stats.bin file when i tried batterycallibration it said the files is missing.
Sometimes battery works nicely and sometimes it lags usually at night what solution we have for this?
Battery was running fine at 100% on some tough work for an hour or so. Its rocking
So lets experiment , see the log below ->
SETCPU set to on demand max 1Ghz.
11:33 = Battery 100% , SETCPU setting on boot, wifi on , fb chat on , opera on.
11:41 - Battery at 74% FB CHAT off now installed operamini.. let me browse SETCPU still on
11:52 - Battery at 61% , Opera On , Setcpu modified to SAVE POWER.
11:54 - Battery still at 61% but phone is lagging more then it was before SETCPU. So i have uninstalled setcpu and kept my phone for charging. Lets see how much time it takes to fully charge..
I have reached the conclusion that SETCPU is the cause of problem
Even after SETCPU problem persists... drained it once and charged for about 1 hour , was showing BATTERY FULL... took it off charger switched on, was 100% kept in pocket in idle condition. 10-15 minutes passed by took it out and was down to 80 then to 50 in next 15-20 minutes without any work... What's gng on some1 help

Best kernel........????
Well there are 2 kernel which are just awesome ......G3mod 2.0 b3......and Fugumod kernel......
U can flash any one of them.....
I personally prefer Fugumod....but it's your choice coz both are fantastic....
Flash the new kernel and clear the battery stats....calliberate....and Setcpu doesn't harm your battery....
Even i am thinking about FUGUMOD.. does it include Recovery , app2sd ,data2sd and stuff.
If yes can you tell me which version exactly of FuGuMOD is the best for non lag stable superb experience ??
M using DDJP6 pre-rooted with superuser and i don't want to format and wipe stuff again.. lots of apps are dere and internal memory is still 800mb empty so will it b impacted if i flash a kernel?

If the batttery gets swollen, it means it is near the end of its lifetime. If it is swollen so much that you cant put your back cover on, it is time to change your battery. i would recommend you not to use your phone with that battery and get a new one ASAP.
Just to clear things out, fugumod doesn't include CWM recovery nor does it include app2sd script. You have to do this manually unless you are using a custom ROM which has this preloaded such as kyrillos' ROM.

It is weird that it happened on this phone. I CAUTION you STRONGLY not to use that battery as it may damage your phone, leave aside blasting and all.
I would also recommend you to take more care of the phone as in, not left in charge for way too long, not overclocked constantly at very very high speeds continuously, and also to check where you keep you phone while charging (dont keep it on heat emitting stuffs like stabilizers, fan regulators etc) Change your battery of course.
Looks like the problem is You. It is neither the battery nor SetCPU. You skipped some basic stuffs, ignored the governor scaling of setCPU and now just pay some attention and if you do, you got yourself a solution!

Nope its the battery only I checked it a mobile expert and saw the battery a bit swollen so its definitely a battery issue. I set the right profiles and governor while using setcpu. Maybe overcharging must have damaged my battery.

1 day and 9 hours on battery and still have 31% left. Not bad for me, round 2% per hour.
Surprisingly that airplane mode -> turn off phone -> pull battery -> turn on phone -> disable airplane mode trick worked for me. Also the pull battery part was essential for no idea what reason.
Now after almost 4 hours intensive use I still have 70%, kinda meets my expectations now.

Now after almost 4 hours intensive use I still have 70%, kinda meets my expectations now.

This is one thing everyone should try...the other thing is (as always): Use the ROM for a week or so! Load and reload it a few times (100% - ~5%)...the battery has to "settle" every and each time you flash a new rom.
mine seems fine. been sitting next to me for the last 4 hours and so far it has lost about 3%
I am also having a horrific battery life. It was much better with both stunner and cm9. I am trying to go back but not sure how to. Dont want to flash anything and brick my phone.

In my hands, the airplane mode trick works, but toggling the energy saving menu restores the no-deep-sleep battery drain state.
Connecting and disconnecting from external power or car dock doesn't seem to precipitate the drain, instead.
Please try yourself to confirm.... In this first ics firmware, knowing what to do to make it work at best is of great importance.

lpy for me not rooted this time if i need root i use the temp one the battery is fantastic
It's not only the crappy battery life.. try opening a folder (Nova Launcher, Apex, Trebuchet - doesn't matter) that contains more than 8 icons... LAGGY AS HELL. kinda miss the chinese leak
Try this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26088090&postcount=86
Im actually having the same issue with battery life. Was using miui and other ics roms with great battery life.
Im assuming its a rouge app or service. But i had 15% drain overnight from 1am-730am and thats not normal when device is not being used.

If i were you I'd install Cpu Spy from the market and watch if your note goes into deep sleep atall...

Hello!
I rooted my phone as of yesterday, I charged it all night and when I took it off today the battery went from completely full to dead withint 3 hours of no use. I did not use the phone at all.
Any ideas?
If you just rooted your phone, you should not have battery drain... Try to temporarily disable root (with Voodo OTA RootKeeper for exemple)
Use better battery stats to nail down which app is causing the drain
Did you try wiping your battery stats in CWM - advanced?
There's also an app, Battery Calibration, on the Play Store that may help with that.
Not uncommon to get weird battery readings after changing rom's or rooting.

+1 that app will tell you exactly what's bogging down your cpu, and which apps prevent proper deep sleep mode.

This is soooo strange. Not a normal behavior!! Before you root your phone, how the battery lifes goes??? Are you in a stock or modified ROM? Wich kernel are you using?
I faced this issue a couple weeks ago. Android S.O was the culprit and it was driving me crazy. I was using a custom ROM (RemICS-UX). I solved the problem returning to stock and erasing everything, then i reflashed the ROM and the kernel, in my case Devil3 0.79. If you want to give it a try!!
After that my batterys life is pretty fine, during at least 2 days!
Feel free to ask anything you want! Cheers mate

Go through a couple more full charge cycles, if android os usage isn't very high then, it should be fine.
Edit: on second thought, draining the battery without use in 3 hours is extreme, and would suggest that the CPU is running at max speed all the time. If it doesn't solve itself or improve a lot after a few more charge cycles, reflash everything.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
Did you just root your phone or did you flash another ROM? Some ROMs have horrible battery life.
The stock battery usage monitor (Settings>Battery) should be enough to tell you what ate your battery. If it's a particular app you're running, try disabling that and see if it improves. If the usage is mostly "Android System", "Mobile standby", or something like that, then you have a tougher problem. The free app CPU spy will let you know if something is keeping your CPU usage high. Better battery stats is pretty cheap and will give you much more specific information.
+1s for BetterBatteryStats and waiting a few charge cycles before judging/debugging your battery drain, especially if you changed your kernel to root or flashed a rom.
I find that after flashing a new rom or kernel my phone, the battery level shown in recovery mode is higher than in the rom's settings, for a couple days. (You can see batt level in semaphore's recovery). I once dud a lazy search about this and found nothing, but I figure that's what is meant about waiting a few cycles gir your battery to calibrate.

There's no such thing as "calibrating your battery". It's a myth. Wiping your battery stats file doesn't do anything other than reset the tracking of what's using power. It doesn't magically fix your battery meter. Flashing a new ROM doesn't leave left over data, again a myth.
Battery life is never consistent after flashing because your ROM needs to "settle" for a day or two first and during that time your ram and cpu usage are all over the place.
The rest is a placebo effect.

I think I may know what is happening to you as of now. Try to bring up the Battery settings if you are on ICS and take a screenshot and post it here. If my 'spider' senses are correct, your phone did not go to 'sleep' and remained awake.
Since I can't put my signature for unknown reasons...(Maybe because I just created an account since I did not want my old one)

Currently I'm experiencing a huge battery drain too. I used both tools which where mentioned here in this thread and when the drain occours, CPU spy reports that my SGS didnt go in deep sleep at all with turned off display, it was at least at 100mhz all the time! I attached 2 logs from better battery stats and it seems like the NotificationService is causing it?
I'm using JW6 PDA JW4 Modem and JVC CSC in combination with the MNGB 0.5.8 Kernel.
Definitely, now you got to find out what is causing it!
