Fresh 4.3.3 ROM...No Wifi Tether - EVO 4G General

So I'm a newb to phones but I have two HTC EVO 4gs and rooted both. The only difference between the two being that my phone has the ChopSuey kernel and my wifi tether works and my wife's does not have a kernel and her wifi tether does not work. The issue at hand is that her phone will open the wifi tether app and will allow computers to connect to it but once you try to use the internet it says no connection exists. Any help?

Evo tethering to a Zune

is there any way to get my evo to tether to my Zune HD, I'm currently fully rooted and running baked snack v .8, planning on upgrading to v .9 when I get time. I just want to download songs on the go with my Zune, but when I use wirelesstether, no wifi hotspot is detected from my zune, yet it works with my laptop? Is this because the evo is being an ad-hoc network or something? or is it in AP-mode? Idk how to get my zune to see the evo at all...
Yeah i would like that too
Have you tried using the latest beta of Wireless Tether? It works differently than the one on the stable version
how/where do I get the beta version?
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre2.apk&can=2&q=
Also just checked it with my Zune HD and seems to work fine.
Yup, works here too! Thanks!
Zune marketplace mobile FTW!
Requires root I suppose.
Glad I could help And yeah, root required for Wireless Tether
Did not work for me
I ran into this same problem, part of the problem is the way wireless tether works (stable) and the way the Zune Works. Zunes do not connect to Ad-hoc networks, which is created when you use Wireless tether. Since im paying for wireless tether through sprint hotspot, i use that tool it creates a AP Network which the Zune will connect to. I did read that Wireless Tether will now have the ability to create an AP network, which will fix those issues.
The newest Wireless Tether works in infrastructure mode. My zune paired with my EVO just fine. I'm not rooted now though.
Also Wireless Tether is available in the market now too.

Got nonroot Wifi Xoom to tether via wifi with captivate

Dear all,
Figured out how to ad-hoc connect via wifi. I guess it is NOT the Xoom's fault. It is the smartphone's fault.
This is according to my observation:
I had both stock non-rooted XOOM and stock rooted 2.2 froyo ATT Captivate.
I was unable to wifi tether because the ATT mobile AP message kept popping up saying that I needed to purchase a tether packed (No thanks).
I preferred the stock experience but finally went back to a custom rom (firefly) for the captivate. After installing the custom rom I can CONFIRM that I can connect via ad-hoc tether wifi via my captivate and Xoom!
I however, have not been able to bluetooth tether.
Anyways, I am returning my XOOM for the Asus transformer because it has the LED backlit screen and besides the $100 less price tag, it is identical.
Stock xoom here and rooted captivate using stock ROM and eXistz KB1 kernel.
I installed wifi teather found here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Had to play around with the settings and set Device Profile to Samsung captivate and setup-method to Softap for Samsung and now i can teather no problems.
Softap for Samsung is actually Infrastructure mode, not Ad-Hoc.
It works fine with wifi tethering on 2.3 roms. No issues on CM7
I have not been able to get this to work.
I have the Wifi Xoom 3.1 Stock ROM
Captivate Rooted with Continuum v4
firmware: 2.2.1
Kernal: 2.6.32.9
buildNumber: FROYO.XWJS8
Any Ideas? Or maybe a step by step guide? I am trying to get the BT Tethering to work.
Thanks,
-Drokare
Yeah I was doing this with my stock Xoom and CM7 Desire HD for ages. The problem was that an unrooted phone sets up an ad-hoc connection whereas in CM7 anyway it behaves as a router AP.
So does that mean I can't get my Xoom to tether to my Captivate via BT?

The Xoom CAN-NOT tether to Ad-hoc without being rooted and changing out the wpa_supplicant file. The Captivate has the ability to tether infrastructure mode (mobile AP isn't ad-hoc.) The wireless tether 3.x (softap) is much more buggy than the 2.x (ad-hoc) on most phones but it might work great on your captivate. If it keeps restarting or getting really hot like it did on mine, you could always root your Xoom and flash the ad-hoc fix in recovery (super easy.)
Here's the link
But that is Wifi Tethering or just setting my Captivate to be a Hot Spot.
I was more specifically asking about the Bluetooth tethering.
Has anyone been able to get this to work? I have seen numerous threads that say they got their Wifi only Xoom to BT tether to Droid X and others.
If I would need to flash my Captivate to another build I would easily. This is the only function I need to for my Xoom and I am completely content.
So I am asking if anyone has got the BT tethering to work... the Wifi Tethering or Hot Spot as you said does heat up the phone quickly, where my friend and his Droid X with BT tethering does not heat up noticeably.
Thanks in advance,
-Drokare
So if I root the Xoom and add the Ad-hoc fix, it would allow me to use the BT Tethering?

[Q] Is there a tethering expert around?

I just took the plunge in to sd android on my TMOUSA HTC HD2.
I am using AmeriCanAndroid all stock HD2.
Previously I was able to tether to a vista laptop with wm6.5 fine. I am trying to use the wifi tether on the the android side now.
My goal is to tether to a unrooted Acer A500 Iconia. I am not sure if it is possible. I have read a ton and can't seem to find a clear answer to this problem. Several people talk about rooting the A500 so it can see a ad-hoc wifi tether. Unless I misunderstood I also read that a rooted android phone could be a real wifi hotspot not just an ad-hoc connection. I am not sure if I am mistaken or not. If someone could clear this up it would be great.
I am not sure if I am doing the tethering correctly on android. I setup the tethering with a SSID, encryption and the like. the A500 sees the wifi SSID but can't seem to obtain a IP address.
The odd thing is that when I start the wifi tether the yellow wifi icon starts in the top right corner of the phone. Then another wifi looking icon starts next to it. it says tethering and wifi hot spot. I have tried using it also but the system locks and reboots. if I don't mess with the second tethering and wife hotspot it doesn't reboot, but i still can't connect.
The strange thing is that the main tethering lets me setup SSID and the like but the tethering and wife hotspot will let me setup a different SSID. I am not sure why they aren't connected.
I thought this all had to do with the unrooted A500 but I tried the same windows laptop that I had tethered to with wm6.5 and it can see the wifi on the phone but can't connect.
Thanks for any ideas.

Wifi Tether Connection Problems With Thunderbolt

Greetings,
I have a rooted Htc Thunderbolt running Cyanogen.
I also have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I cannot connect to the wireless tether program or Barnacle wifi.
It sees the SSID from wireless tether but is stuck "obtaining IP address."
In Barnacle it doesn't even see the network created.
My Ipad connects to the wifi tether feature of either program without significant trouble.
Any thoughts on how to remedy this problem?
Thanks in advance.
I finally got it working on my rooted Thunderbolt (running latest HTC GB release).
Download the latest wifi tether at (code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list).
I changed two settings: Setup-Method:"Softap (master)" and check "Routing Fix."
After that, I was able to connect my non-rooted Tab 10.1 to my Thunderbolt.

PhonHelp with wireless tether please

My phone is an HTC Hero cdma(sprint) that I rooted with z4root and cm7. 1. I tried almost every single version of the wifi tether app on the code Google website and none of them work.
My cm7. 1 has usb tether but not portable wifi hotshot. If anybody knows a way I would be really grateful.
The Hero only has Ad-Hoc wireless tether so your device may not be able to connect to Ad-Hoc networks and only infrastructure networks.

I'm running Wireless Tether v 2.0.7 on my CM6 Hero without problems.
Let me know if you can't find that version.
Doesn't CM7 have the native tether app in the CM config screens? I don't tether with my Hero but I will have to take a look at it when I get home. I know that I used to use wireless tether app routinely so the Hero will def tether just fine.
Cyanogen mod 7.1 has tethering via usb but not portable wifi hotspot. I may have to flash to cm6 see if it becomes available. Thank you for the responses ill post back after my attempt.
