Can I delete cwm off my SD card since I have Rom manager and can use the cwm in Rom manager?
Sent from my HTC_A510c using XDA App

Well, if you burned the CWM image to the sdcard in order to make a bootable SD card, then you could format the card, then flash Clockwork internally. If you mean just delete the clockwork folder itself from the SD card, you could technically delete it, but that is where all your backups are stored. Plus, i would bet it would just reappear when you flash CWM anyway. I don't see much reason for it, if it is taking up valuable space, just limit your stored backups to a chosen few, or store them on a cloud service like dropbox. Without the backups taking up their .75 gigs or so of space, the clockwork folder on the SD card is of negligable size.

Ok then another reason I want to do so is because Rom manager has a diffrent cwm then what's on my SD, so there's two wich is pointless right?

Oh yeah. That can lead to unbelievably frustrating problems, like backups not restoring and system not mounting and worse. Get rid of the old one and go with the current stable through ROM manager or through the flashable zip in the development thread. ClockworkMod version 3.2.0.1. The last thing, seriously, I think, with the Nook (which is basically unbrickable), the last thing you want is incompatible CWM. The nook itself would still be safe, but all your data and apps would be in serious jeopardy. They would be salvageable, but it would take a detailed and grueling work around.
Get rid of the old, and in with the new. You would still have the folder on the SDcard, but now it will actually have some value.
Edit: If you already have backups you want to keep made in an outdated CWM, let me know. There is a work around, but it involves multiple flashing.

yes i am running the newest cwm from rom manager, so i will delete the old cwm on sd card, i have 2 sd cards, one with cwm and one empty so when i boot the tablet it wont go into cwm everytime, now that i found cwm in rom manager i guess i can delete and reformat the card

If you have a spare card, it can be pretty useful to have the current CWM image burn laying around. With the nook giving boot.priority to.the SD card, any corruption of the device can be set straight with a bootable SD card. Some people make.the card bottable to a particular ROM, but I have mine as a CWM boot loaded with zips.of.my favorite ROMS and backups with my favorite mod settings already applied (V6 supercharger, buiod.prop and other scripts /settings). With my Titanium backups syncing to the cloud, even if calamity of the highest order occurs, I can have the device back just like I want it in relatively short order. Takes about 45 mins to set it all up, but now I can tweak/adjust/flash and break with impunity.

ya my other sd had some old dinosaur cwm on it, but the NC does have the newest one

SD Card changed format, lost all my apps, can't reinstall. Help!

So I just traded my iPhone for a rooted MyTouch. It has the Cyanogen mod I believe. Well all of a sudden I could not access my SD card and when I tried to open it on my computer it said 'Wrong Format'. Wouldn't work on the phone either. So I formated Fat32 and thought I could start over.
It still shows my apps installed in the Marketplace, although they were on the SD and deleted. I can't uninstall them, but it thinks they are there, somewhere. Has anyone had this problem? I am relatively new to Android and rooting. I had a jailbroken iPhone before. Thanks!
kinda depends really. I would suggest first going thru recovery console if you are using amon recovery and partition sd card there. With most modified roms you have apps 2 sd so there are actually 3 partions. The biggest is fat32 for data like music, then ext2,3,4 for applications then a linux swap partition to help expand the ram on the phone and if you formated on PC or from settings on phone those partitions are gone. So I would do that first and then try to uninstall from market and reinstall again if not you may need to wipe and restart the device.
How do I get into recovery mode? I tried going to the terminal and using the flash_image recovery /sdcard/imgfile but it says I do not have permission?
Any ideas??
If your phone has been rooted right by the previous owner, you can access the recovery mode by first powering down, then pressing home and power at the same time.
Ahh! That worked! thanks!
I have a variation on this problem and lost my apps and Market, hope someone can help. Started with the SD card coming unmounted randomly, known issue with EVO I guess. Followed the recommendation of reformatting the SD by plugging it into a Windows PC and doing a FAT32 format. I backed up everything I could "see" from SD to C: drive. I am running a custom ROM with APPS2SD feature and Clockworkmod recovery. I'm very new to Linix and Android but, it looks like there is a Linix Ext3 partition that is made by APPS2SD on the SD card and that is where all my apps where, including android Market app. So, upon copying all the folders back to the re-formatted SD I had no apps and no android Market to able to re-download all my apps. I guess Market is like a licensed deal that you can't just get a .apk of and reload it. I do HAVE a current recovery backup that was on the FAT32 directory of the SD card but it appears the the Ext3 partition is not in that recovery file. I tried booting into recovery with Clockworkmod and reformatting the SD again, I tried a "Restore ext3.img" but Clockworkmod comes back with 'sd-ext.img not found" so I am guessing that the Linix Ext3 partition backup was stored IN the Ext3 partition of the SD(?) and the system and data stuff is stored in the FAT32 recovery file. Brilliant idea (not)! I tried a re-flash of the ROM, flashes OK but no apps. Anyway, the SD is properly partitioned now, the FAT32 stuff is back on, I don't know how to look in to the Est3 partition but, I know there is one program there cause I installed a file explorer by downloading and executing an .apk and there was an option to install it to SD. Going to factory reset and starting over again is not an option. Any ideas please?
SOLVED this issue:
apperantly the android market application is called "vendor.apk" and can be downloaded from various sites BUT WAIT, it's not that simple. Apperantly the vendor app has to be specific to your phone (hardware)? On a whim, I downoaded the previous version of my custom ROM (happedned to be Fresh ROM) .zip, I extracted the vendor.apk from the .zip and installed that. Then, I had an apk called MarketUpdater.apk, or something like that, that had installed in the phones system/app from the last Fresh ROM update. I ran this to update the vendor (android market) to the latest version, then I ran that. Did it work? NO, it crashed hen I tied to run market. I then did a re-boot. Did it it work? NO Upon attempting to reboot it got stuck in a loop and froze. Very scary. So, remove the battery and try again. I think I had to remove and re-install the SDcard somewhere in there to get it to a first time boot and, after a re-boot, whalla, come back with a working market. Market remembered all the apps that I purchased and I re-downloaded everything. Of course, I don't know for sure where they are stored right now (SD card or phone??)
And, my original problem of SD card constantly coming unmounted has been fixed.

Formatting the SD card

I just recently got the MyTouch4G, got it permrooted and did a full back up of my sd card to my pc, but it's still on stock rom. I want to flash cyanogen7 but there's a lot of junk on the sd card first
My question is if it is okay to do a full format and if so, any advice on important folders or files I should copy back after the format, apart from the clockwork folder (i know that one is important)
Thanks for any help...

Well do as I do just create a dir called Files and inside it make sub dir's and put all stuff you want in it like aduio, video, photo, ect. Also dont worry about the other folders in your root /sdcard. Far as format goes as you backed it up to your PC just format sdcard and if you missed something it will rebuild itself. Make sure you backed up video/photo whatever if you took any. Usually once you install something that requires you to place elements in the root of your sdcard after its complete always remove it this way you save yourself a lot of headaches later on. I always keep my dir nice and clean old habit of *nix world

Thanks for your response. Just curious but clockwork recovery on Vibrant saves itself as update.zip (if I remember correctly) on the root of the internal sd card. Where does it save recovery on MT4G? I didn't see an update.zip file after flashing recovery. Thanks again for your response

Its saved under /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup you will see the dir with timestamp. Normally I don't waste time backing up as I know what I am doing but if you do want it then go ahead and just mv the dir to your PC temporarily then sync back to sdcard once you are done.
Whatever data is saved even the cache on SD I know so if I find data that is valuable I still mv it to /sdcard/files and redirect that path. This way I have clean data scheme as you don't want 9000 bs on your root directory.
Thanks again for replying. I know where the nandroid backups are stored but what I was wondering about is the actual clockwork recovery that you boot into in order to flash roms, make backups, etc. On Samsung Vibrant, when you go into rom manager and flash recovery, it creates a zip file on the root of your internal sd. When you do this with MT4G, it puts that recovery flash somewhere.

I think CM comes with clockwork rom manager preinstalled. Your recovery won't change when you flash a rom. There's no need to back up recoveries because they're available in rom manager. If you need cw 3.0.0.5 just download the flashable version from the cm7 forum and save it.

Since the mytouch 4g installs some of the apps on the microSD card, does a nandroid backup include those in the system image? Or should I use something like titanium backup for those?

Nandroid will back everything in the system including apps but some data is stored on the sd card as well. My advice is to a nandroid and backup your entire sd card to your pc as well

This is not really in reference to cyanogenmod but any rooted MT4G. When you root your phone you download and install clockwork. From rom manager, you choose ' flash recovery'. You choose your phone from the list and it flashes the recovery image somewhere on your phone. My question was to find out what directory does it flash recovery to and as what the file is called.
I am currently running gorillasens final but this would be the same as any rom here, possibly the exception being cyanogenmod

Clockwork Backup 4.0.0.4 and Ext SD

Hi,
I've got Xoom 3.2 and I wanted to perform a backup. Clockwork 4.0.0.4 is what it says is the latest. I also have an Ext SD.
I did a backup as I usually do it from recovery, but it took too long... I reboot and I saw that I was running out of space, already 2.5GB.
My questions are:
- Is it trying to backup the entire Internal SD card?? That is about 30GB of data! I have a Nexus one and I am used to it just backing up that system to external SD? How can I do the backup on xoom without it backing up my Media and music and the big game data?
- Is there a way to make it back up to the External SD card instead of internal?
Will performing a WIPE wipe only system, or will it also wipe the Internal SD?
Thanks,

Yes, that version only sees the internal "sdcard" and will try to make a nandroid of it. You really need to install/reinstall the solarnz R4c Version 3.2.0.0 which was made specifically for the Xoom or at least the Rogue recovery which is based on v 4 but is also customised for the Xoom. As it is, you will not be able to flash from your internal sdcard either.
See, newer isn't always better.
Thanks a lot for the info. I tried to get 3.2.0.0 but when I went to Rom Manager, and looked under the other versions, there was no 3.2.0.0. I guess I have to download from some website and install?
So, say I go and I install 3.2.0.0.
It will see the External, I don't see any setting to specify where backups should go, will 3.2.0.0 aautomatically backup to external sd?
How about what gets backed up from Internal? Id on't want it all backed up!
Thanks,
So, I used 3.2.0.0 and backup went a lot better. Thanks it backed up to my external. The size is 2.5gb out of an internal sd of about 20gb.
I just need to know what it backed up from my internal sd and what it didn't?

One more thing rom manager now only sees the backups on the internal.. so I have to restore from recovery since backs are stored on external.
Just a bit screwed up this whole thing
Both recovery and from manager should have options to let user specify where to back and restore.

I actually stopped using ROM Manager for that reason.
CWM recovery backs up your system image. To further back up apps and their associated data, use Titanium Backup.
And doing a restore from the recovery menu is correct. You can use ROM Manager to get into recovery as long as you don't get tricked into "updating" to another version of cwm recovery.
You could also fool clockwork to thinking it its latest version flashed. This way you can still use rom manager if you choose and still have the latest modded custom recovery.
1. Open Superuser and "Forget" ROM Manager.
2. Open ROM Manager, and Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
3. After it downloads, it'll ask for superuser. Uncheck "Remember," and Deny superuser access.
4. Go to /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/, and rename the file that just downloaded to [whateverItIs].img.real. (The next step will be easier if you copy the filename first.)
5. Copy the x. x. x. x to this location & rename it to whatever the new ROM Manager download was called.
6. Open ROM Manager, and Flash ClockworkMod Recovery again.
7. This time, Allow superuser.

Remove TWRP?

I used GooManager to install TWRP on my phone. I'm still stock and rooted. I noticed that TWRP was using over 4GB's of storage on my phone. Is there a way I can remove it without starting having to reinstall everything on the phone?

Just pull down the stock recovery in a .zip form (search these forums) for your firmware and flash it with TWRP.
But I'd guess the reason it has a big footprint is that you did a nandroid backup, right? If so, you can move that backup off your phone to a PC, etc and free up the space. That way you'd still have it if you needed it. Or just get a bigger SD card and don't worry about it. I have a 32gb card and am happy to have a nandroid backup there, in case I need it.

So I can move the nandroid file to my SD card? The TWRP is taking space on my phone and now i'm under 1GB of free space and I try to save things on my SD card.
I got it transferred. I didn't see the option to back up to my SD Card before. Thanks for all your help.
Cool, glad you got it figured out.

[Q] Halp! Deleted external SD card?

First of all... I wanted to start this post off by saying yes, I know I'm an idiot.
Now that that's out of the way....
A few weeks ago, I got so excited to flash a custom ROM, that somehow when I ran TWRP and backed up my system to the external SD card, I also wiped my external SD card. Because I'm an idiot. I don't know how or why it happened really. I just know it did.
I had previously saved EVERYTHING to my external SD card, thinking that was the safest place for the data... and now the past two years of my life documented in photographs are gone.
I have tweaked out on running custom phone software since the days of the original Razr and flashing Alltel firmware on it... and this is the first major screw up I've ever done.
Now... does TWRP back up that data somewhere, somehow? Or is it just system data/apps that get backed up? If TWRP didn't save it somewhere, is there possibly somewhere that the contents of my external SD card were MOVED upon installation of the custom ROM?

You should never store your sole backup copy on the same device as is being backed up as you probably realize now.
Anyway, it's not clear from your post if you were storing a redundant copy of your backup on your external SD card or if you had configured TWRP to use your external SD card as the primary folder and therefore sole backup copy. The default location is usually /data/media/0/TWRP. Try a search for TWRP folders using a root aware file browser. With any luck you will find a backup on your internal SD card.
If not, then the only way to recover would be to try a data recovery program on your external SD card. Unless you do Google /cloud backups as well?
.
Recuva does most of the work well, and there is an option to restore the directory structure too if you poke around in the settings. Puran File Recovery works where Recuva did not in recovering some images and videos.
Both I have tried after an accidental format of the SD card from the phone settings.
They are both free desktop software.
Important to take not not to copy any files over to the affected card, or even your recovered files as well. Only do so when you are sure you have recovered all that you can onto a desktop folder.

The second scenario is what I believe I did. And I think when it created the backup, it wiped the external SD to suit it's needs. Problem being that the Nandroid backup wanted 6 gigs ish of space, and I had 4.5 or so remaining on the internal SD.... don't know what stuff I had on there... but *shrug*

Thank you for the tip. I will try both of these. I think the nandroid backup wrote over the areas on the SD where the pictures were stored. You'd think it would pick the empty space before the occupied space... but I guess since it wiped it clean prior to backing up, it was ALL empty space. *sigh*
Thank you both very much for your help.
