I had MIUI installed on my phone, I tried going to a different ROM and I ended up bricking my phone. It was starting to load the new rom then it powered off and then restarted and has not gone past the samsung screen. My phone is able to go into download mode and so I tried reloading software using heimdall and my Mac is not recognizing my phone. I've tried almost every trick I can think of to get it to recognize, no good. Am I SOL? Or does someone know something I don't to get it to work?

Well your not SOL because it gets into download mode, which also means you're not bricked just sponged... I know nothing about heimdall but it seems as though aot of people have problems getting heimdall to recognize their epics... I strongly suggest finding a friend who has windows and use odin... sorry I can't be of more help... but as long as you can get into download mode there is hope...

I don't know if it will help but post 2 in the following thread has info about Heimdall and some links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Heimdall for mac seems to be pretty much borked I couldn't get my macbook to recognize the phone either.. either use bootcamp to boot into windows on your mac and odin, or DL everything you'll need, odin, tarball, samsung drivers etc to a flash drive and drive over to a friends with a windows machine, it will go really quick if u have everything u need
You can't get into clockword recovery, right?

dont worry u can fix this.as the other guy said your gonna have to put all the files in a flash drive and then take it to a windows computer. form there first install samsung drivers. Once done open odin and connect ur phone. put it in download mode. also i believe your going to have to repartition. but dont worry, odin will do this for you. I can give u links to the stock files if youd like and i will guide you through it. if u want help then just reply to this post
what you did is: MIUI is a MTD ROM therefore your phone was MTD and not BML and you probably tried flashing a BML ROM this caused confusion and just bricked it

And also try a new user cable. Sometimes the cable can't make the best connection, and it fails during Odin. That's what happened to mine.

can you get into download mode or clockwork recovery?

I can get it into download mode, fortunately. I don't know where to go from there.
Clockwork recovery won't boot up, however.
Search how to fix a bricked epicand download odin and somewhere on the pages of that post is the link fr the di18 but if you can't use it use the dg07 or whatever then make shure you have the drivers on your computor and follow the directions on the odin post and your phone should be fine as long as yur doing everything right

Thank you so much. I'm a little confused on where to put the PDA
Also, I'm worried my computer wont recognize my phone.
If this doesn't work, do you think I should try replacing it?
Ok did you download the odin file the like 200mb one, if you did it should be a .tar file or a .md5 if its .md5 then remove that extension and it sould just be .tar after that extract all the files in there ona folder on your desktop or something and put all the files in there in the heimall applicaion, al the files should be named the same thing in the app as in your folder and then put the pit which was a separate download on the how to fix a bricked epic in the first post in the pit section and plug in your phone but make shure you put the phone in download mode before it gets plugged in and hit start and your computor should reconize your phone if you have the proper drivers installed. As for replacing it I would go for it if you have insureance just say itslost or stolen or se if the sprint store will replace it for a cheaper price but if worst comes to worst you will have to pay aother hundred dollars fr a new phone.

I have tried using my friend's windows computer for a different purpose in Odin. Although, I couldn't get Samsung Drivers to work on his mac. (I realized that he had vista though, and I downloaded a w7 version, so I don't know if it would've worked anyway) Besides, he's out of town for the next two weeks.
Honestly, I'll try go into the Sprint store tomorrow and see if they can replace my device, no matter the expense.
That way at least, I won't have to go through the troubles later of having to flash back to DK17 through Odin after running the DK28 leak on my phone already.
Thanks for your help though; I really appreciate it.

There are no videos that I know of and your question is very vague. First of all, have you put your phone in USB debugging mode? If so, then try other USB ports and if that doesn't work try a different computer. That is the only help I can give you. If you are using the oneclickrootandrecovery made by Drockstar it is rock solid and very very easy to use.

Wow, just wow. Please don't respond to any more questions. Heimdall is the program for Macs but most people I've talked to cannot get it to work. If you have a newer Mac and want to continue flashing I would recommend getting a copy of Windows and using it to use Odin.

Heimdall is an open source replacement for Odin. It is meant to use the same files that Odin uses.
You need to decompress the odin tar ball. The files are in there. You will like heimdall once you get use to it. I only use linux so I had to compile it and use it. I prefer it to odin. I how that helps.

It's nothing against the toolkit, it's an excellent tool.
However, it's better for newbies to learn how to use ADB and fastboot on a nexus because that knowledge can save you should something happen.
Plus, it's good to know what the toolkit actually does prior to using it. It's not infallible, so having knowledge of what it's doing can help you troubleshoot should something happen with the toolkit.
