That means there are a some reasons why SE could stick to 2.1/Q4:
- SE plans a X10 sucessor for Q4 with froyo (including multitouch)
- google wants to have a clean froyo/hardware base, which could mean all f froyo-devices should have multitouch
- ?
- SE is cool or clever enough (like HTC) and announce 2.2/froyo for all X10 device-classes and cancels the 2.1 update

from where didi you got your info SE didnot canclled 2.1 never said any thing about 2.2
especially since its just been announced that flash will need 2.2 as a minumum.

problem is, companies are not as stupid as we sometimes thinks. they just make sometimes the wrong desicions.
the x10 has no multi/dualtouch maybe the big screen & dual/multi was (last year) to expensive/not avaible.
To annouce 2.1 two weeks before google I/O is also very stupid, because everyone knows that 2.2 will come at google I/O
... so there must be a reason, maybe a reason SE knows before (e.g. google wants froyo only on multitouch devices, maybe,
look, there is no HTC Legend in the HTC - 2.2 update list) so SE had to announce 2.1 before google I/O . If this is correct we only can hope ...
Second time in my life i have to thank adobe, because flash 10.1 needs 2.2 and this could change everything.
The X10 devices (mini, etc.) and SE cannot survive beside the desire/nexus without flash ... so next week(s), we will see ...
I sincerely hope that Sony Ericsson Xperia to update to Froyo, because if do not update, Sony will be out of the game.
Consumers are not stupid. Not sell any telephone.
I will never again buy a Sony product.
The truth and we really know this already is that we will not see an official update from Sony to the xperia x10 in 2010.
We really need to face this and realize its just NOT going to happen. I am not being negative just realistic.
Our only hope is for the guys on the development side come up with a way to root the x10 and get it to run froyo. But an official update from Sony is VERY unlikely!

Yeah, I hope google isn't trying to set a baseline for 2.2+ with multitouch as a requirement.
But I do agree with this. Flash could just save us...
Oh and cmboud, we will see an update from SE this year. The problem is if it is the update we want or not

It sounds like a good idea but I'm pretty sure it's something that they already know, of COURSE we want the latest and greatest, that's why we choose this phone most likely.
I don't belive a petition will resolve anything in our favour - if they could announce 2.2 they would - it would sell more handsets!

I think it's very poor that such a big company doen't care at all about their customers. If SE doen't come up with some ass kicking updates in the next months this was my last SE device.

That's how it works for them, not necessarily for the rest of the industry.
There are phones with worse hardware than the Xperia series which have been given Android 2.2 updates.
IOTW, they **** on their current customers and profit on them. Nothing else.
Its not everything bad.
We can get all that have 2.2 by root phone and we will get multytouch actually we already get it.
They uploaded firmware with multytouch.

What I find most annoying is that SE seems to have forgotten they made the x8 entirely.
I'm not even sure if the x8 is considered "part of the x10 family" or not. I can make semi-informed guesses, but there's no official word to clarify this.

I had tweeted SEAnswers about the Xperia X8 and this is what they had to say, I quote "There may be updates to software, however we will not be upgrading past 2.1 OS".Check the Discussions on their Facebook page, no further updates to the Android version.
So... since the x8 was originally intended to launch with 2.1, this pretty much makes the life-span of this particular device... Dead on Arrival.
It's a fine device, but the policy that comes with it is just utter rubbish.

SE is crazy. No 2.2, ok we cried but we stayed mum. But going back on a promise of providing a decent update is pretty sad.
How can they not post DT for X8. I dont care about the stupid timescape, or the stupid launcher. All I want is DT (and most of the users here).

u are quietly right!!!!but froyo still needed...
i used US firmware, and check with SEUS and PC com, there's no update available.
Anyone has new update? and can you share your SI number? hope that new update is not china firmware, cause it makes my phone slower than US firmware
In case we will receive this update, am i right assuming it will delete anything on the phone?

Come on guys, SE never promised dualtouch for the X8! We don't even know if it's possible. I think we have no right to cry about this, as we bought our phone knowing there would be no multitouch.
Dammit guys! Why are you complaining? They'll enable ANT+!!! Don't you know how useful is it? It'll save many lives, and since we all have ANT+ monitoring devices, DT should be our least concern...

All I can say right now is: SE, you haven't said a word about 2.2 on Xperia, while developers got 2.3 working on X10 and racht is in progress of making it work on our X8-s (I hope)...

The X8 update will start rolling out one week after the x10, so arnd 2-3 days more and we can expect it to begin, not that it'll add much but I want to see if they have made any improvements to the UI.
One "improvement" they surelly done is patch up the root exploit, so I would say not to update...

As I bought x8, i read that it has ANDROID os AND when i bought it, x8 was new on the market. The most popular os in the world must be upgraded and it must have MT,Flash and app2sd.
Really, really dissapointed about this phone, seems to me that the next phone I buy will deffo not be a SE ( and I'm loyal to SE since my first mobile phone back in 1998 )
Way to screw users by not offering decent updates.

this is seriously my last SE phone
Stop hoping for nothing, the X8 will never get froyo or MT oficially... the only solution will be to get a working froyo rom for the x8 and that will be it. Sony screwed me one time with the X8, but it will be the last time i buy a SE phone.

I was realy disapointed when I buy my phone(it is my first android, and i was an idiot in the android world) when i watch it on gsmarena.com I fell in love with the phone When I started to get to know about android and when I read no 2.2 update, i was realy disapionted...I'd like to buy me an HTC device, that fully works everything (even the MIUI rom) I'm just using CMmini 2.2, and it's a realy good rom, but the interface (I love the stock launcher from Eclair)
Just wait that someone form the developers make MIUI rom compatiable on mdpi devices(like ours x8)

Sony should concentrate on finishing 4.0.4 and making a final release rather than releasing the current version of ics. Arc users will appreciate that much more, I think.

It's a nice idea to give Arc user a first look, but 4.0.3 it's still unstable in Arc, that's why they should finish 4.0.4 and then make it available to our phones. I still prefer custom roms, they seem to be working better.
we know how 4.0.3 is...but wat about the people who are not on xda forum? normal people who dunno anything about rooting or bootloader unlocking..or who dont want to do..actually they dont care whether its 2.3.4 or 4.0.3..but atleast for the name sake sony should release watever they have worked on ICS till now so that whole arc family can eat ice cream sandwich

i have lt15i and LT15i .69 firmware, just a moment ago i connected my xperia to pc companion and it wants me to update to newer firmware, i wonder if it is ics already?
i will post back in few half an hour when i flash it.

Trust me when I say that most everyday people will regret the ics update as it is now.
First . Camera video is not what it used to be. Most everyday people get the arc for the camera abilities.
Second. Games are pretty much screwed in ics. All I have now is angry bird and cut the rope.
Take some time to think about it. Will everyday non developers really appreciate ics ??

i dont know how sony worked on ICS..seriously sony should learn something from HTC...look at HTC desire C..it has just 600MHz processor..but still ICS runs very smooth on it..
now sony shouldnt delay more..they had their time..its been very late..in few months jelly beans will be released..

Guys stop whining about the ICS release. Guys like you ( no offence) wanted ICS to roll out very soon. People on xda wanted ICS to be released as it was under development. but when it was released people started whining about tje release has bugs. Please give Sony sometime to fix these issues.
HTC hmm. The htc incredible s which had a scheduled ics update last month didn't get anything. Htc is a fool if it is rolling out ics updates for outdated and non deserving devices earlier than their 2011 lineup. Even sensation series has not got the ics updates ATM.

ok first of all, sony dint release ICS "soo soon" becoz it spotted few people talking on this forum..they dint decide to release it in alpha or beta stage coz xda people are talking about it..ice cream sandwich code was released in october 2011..they had time..they dint do dere job well..there are over 10000 employees and out of them 600 employees were given one and only one job..to make ICS for arc s..

let me tell you that htc sensation 4g has got the ics update and may be sensation will get soon (before xperia arc) which is bad for xperia arc users

They already promised ICS for 2011 Xperia phones.
Also, Sony Mobile is a much smaller team compared to HTC, Samsung and the likes so you can't expect the same stuff in the same duration.

i completely agree with you but sony first said that ics for arc will release on 1st week of may now they r saying it will release in the last week or 1st week of june
