Hi everyone, I'm new to installing Android to the Vogue and I haven't the slightest idea where to start. I've tried multiple times but always seem to mess up with everything. Can anyone give me a step by step tutorial or even make the folders for me so that i can put it in my SD card, let me know and thank you guys for your help. Also if possible and anyone would want to help and make the folders for me I would like an eclair build.
were you planning on running android on NAND (which is where windows mobile is now) or off your sd card.
I was planning on running it off NAND, any suggestions?

Your phone is already unlocked?
Seeing that you have never run Android before you may want to try a few builds on SD card first to see which one you like, and have the flexability to go back to Windows Mobile. A class 6 microSDHC card is pretty comparable to NAND speedwise in my opinion.
would recommend one of the donut builds (plemen, myn). both guys make a fast and stable donut, GPS and bluetooth work great. since I've got a bit of time, here's a step by step with links to take you from a ground zero unlocked vogue to running android on your nand (fastest way, replaces windows mobile). this has been written up a few times before, but today is your lucky day
read the entire set of instructions before getting started.
BEFORE STARTING
1. know that there are multiple ways to flash a rom to your phone. here are a few
a. using windows, get a flashing package from one of the xda devels, and replace the RUU_signed.nbh file in that package with whatever you are trying to flash (try NFSFAN's package, it has always worked well for me for this; some carrier packages don't work), renamed the same way
b. use a 2GB or smaller micro SD card with the .nbh named VOGUIMG.NBH in root, then place the phone in bootloader mode (see #2)
c. use linux and HTCFlasher - don't know much more about this method, find it here
2. if flashing from a computer, I always recommend flashing from the bootloader, NOT through active sync. enter bootloader: hold down power and camera, then press and release reset, wait for the tricolor screen. then connect to usb, and flash away
3. Flashing etiquette: I always flash everything twice, back to back, for good measure. while the phone is flashing, don't move it, don't open programs, don't surf the internet, just leave your phone and computer alone, hands off. and don't flash from a virtual machine; trust me, just don't.
4. Have patience. There are steps that will take minutes to complete. Just wait. If you are not sure is something is happening or if the phone is frozen, put the phone down and go do something else for at least 10 minutes.
GET STARTED
1. unlock your phone (cokeman's unlocker, hardSPL 2.31).
2. flash a "GPS capable shipped rom" from post 1 here. make sure you have working phone, working data, and working GPS (if you are on verizon and have problems getting GPS to work, see here - thx drewden123.
3. upgrade to the bell 3.42.50 radio, find the radio only version here. flash it the same way you flash any other ROM - you can use a rom package to flash it, just rename it to RUU_signed.nbh and replace the one in the package with it, then flash away)
4. download the necessary files. you'll need:
a. a rom in the form of androidinstall.tgz from this forum. a couple of great donut options are myn's and plemen's and plemen's
b. a .nbh found at sourceforge. the sourceforge page contains both stable builds, and the latest betas - don't know what to use? see this thread. choose your resolution based on the recommendations of the chef (the rom builder), also read here.
5. create a folder on the root of your micro sd card called andboot
6. place your androidinstall.tgz file in the andboot folder
7. flash your .nbh file by placing your phone in bootloader mode, and using one of the above flashing methods
8. as soon as the phone reboots (it should vibrate), hold down this button to enter the install menu like your life depended on it until the boot menu pops up
9. in the top half of the boot menu are your booting/file storage settings. for nand, select "sys on nand" and "data on nand" (other options will work too, but for your standard nand install, I would go with this)
10. go down to "1. install system" and click it. at this point it doesn't matter, but on the second screen that pops up go ahead and choose wipe data as well. when swapping between builds in the future, it is recommended to start with a new data file for best results. however, if it is the same class of build (i.e. between two donut builds), keeping your data.img file and simply using the "clear dalvik cache" should keep you running smooth without having to change all of your settings again.
11. wait for the install menu to re-appear. when it does, scroll down to "9. quit" and click it.
12. wait. keep waiting. in fact, step away from your phone. when you come back, turn the screen on, you should see the Donut lock screen!
OTHER NOTES
1. to reflash windows, simply enter bootloader mode, and flash your windows rom
2. buttons in android: see here.
wow thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed, once I get everything going I will let you know, currently I'm running NFSFAN's Final 6.5 ROM, its great and all but I need me some Android. Thanks again for your help and I will keep you posted.

Tatnai, I just want to thank you for your post. I was able to flash myn's build of andriod to nand yesterday after going through maybe five different threads(all with slightly differing methods). After reading your instructions, I am relieved that I did it correctly.
Quick a question just to verify. When I want to reflash to a newer build of andriod in the future, I'd just have to place the correct .nbh file in root, androidinstall.tar file in the andboot folder and hold volume up?

they may be changing around the .nbh file stuff, so this answer is depending on what happens with that, BUT... you shouldn't need to flash a new .nbh to change your system unless you need to change resolution. if you don't, read on.
NOTE: the process is the same whether running on NAND, or on SD card (ext2 or regular sd). Just don't mess with the boxes at the top of the install menu that say where your sys and data are installed.
TO RUN AN UPDATE that someone has provided in their thread for their build:
1. place the androidupdate.tar in the /andboot folder on your sd card
2. reboot your phone, hold this button until you see the install menu
3. from the bottom portion of that menu, select "Install update". click yes on the popup menu that notifies you that this will adjust the system files.
4. wait. it will eventually finish and kick you back to the install menu
5. go to "quit" and click it.
TO CHANGE FROM ONE ROM TO ANOTHER (same class, i.e. donut to donut)
Note: if you have a data.img, you technically should be able to keep it while moving between ROMs of the same class (i.e. donut rom to a donut rom, or eclair to eclair rom). just make sure to clear the dalvik cache before the new one boots up. however, if there are any problems, the first thing you should then do is wipe your existing data.img using the install menu and the boot your new system allowing it to create a fresh one.
1. place the new ROM file (androidinstall.tgz) into the /andboot folder on the root of your sd card, overwriting any previous install file that was there before
2. reboot your phone, hold this button until you see the install menu
3. from the bottom portion of that menu, select "backup /data", then select "yes" to overwrite old backups (btw, you can rename any databackup.img in the /andboot folder to anything you want to keep multiple backups; when you want to revert to a particular data.img backup, just rename it to databackup.img before going to the install menu). this will give you a backup of your current data just in case something goes wrong. it will take a while to complete, and eventually take you back to the install menu.
4. from the bottom portion of that menu, select "clear dalvik cache". allow this to run, it will return you to the install menu when complete.
5. from the bottom portion of that menu, select "Install system". click "yes" on the popup menu that notifies you that this will overwrite the system files. a second popup will open asking if you want to wipe your /data, select "no" for this to keep your current data file. once it installs, you will be returned to the install menu.
6. select "quit" from the bottom of the menu. this should boot android. first boot after clearing the dalvik cache, installing a new system, or wiping a data.img will take a while, just be patient
TO CHANGE FROM ONE ROM TO ANOTHER (different class, i.e. donut to eclair, or cupcake to donut)
Note: I would not recommend keeping your data.img while switching between different versions of android.

I keep get an error when I am trying to install from NAND, it says Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt, anyone have any clues?? I am trying to install SenseHERO 1.4 and I am using the NAND kit posted with the UpdateROM utility. Any suggestions?

Is there anyone in nj that can help me install this damn android on the vogue.. ive tried all the methods and nothing seems to work.. can it be the microSD card?? the files im using?? ive been trying to use every single build out there and nothing seems to work..
This is a step by step guide to install ClockworkMod v08, a ROM of your choosing, Flash, and the Android Market fix. This guide assumes that there is no data on your device that is important to you. Back it up or prepare to lose it.
I do NOT accept responsibility for anything good, bad, or indifferent that may come from following this guide. This includes and is not limited to completely destroying your tablet. I highly recommend leaving your tablet plugged in while doing anything like this with your device. I have no idea what will happen if the battery dies in the middle of flashing a ROM (if anything…but better safe than sorry).
ALL THE FILES NEEDED FOR THIS GUIDE EXCEPT FOR THE ROM ITSELF CAN BE FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS GUIDE.

You do NOT need to root your tablet to install a ROM on this device using this guide. All the after-market ROMs come pre-rooted so you don't need to root after installing either.
Part One – Install ClockworkMod v08
ClockworkMod is what will ultimately be used for all your flashing of ROMs, backing up, clearing cache, etc.
Step 1.
Download ClockworkMod v08 (This version has been found to work best...the newer version causes some issues with some ROMs.) There are two versions available; one for installing ClockworkMod from the internal memory, one for installing it from external memory (microSD/microSDHC card).
Step 2.
Unzip the file you chose (cwmod_internal.zip OR cwmod_microsd.zip) to the root folder on the storage option of your choice.
So, for example, if the storage option you chose has the drive letter “F:” assigned to it when hooked up to your computer, you would want it to look something like this…
A folder located at “F:\recovery”
A file located at “F:\update.zip”
Step 3.
Turn off your device.
Step 4.
Press the power button and the Volume+ button at the same time and release them when the Viewsonic splash screen pops up. You should see "Detect a recovery key pressed" pop up in the upper left corner of the screen.
Step 5.
Watch ClockworkMod install. This will not take long. Your tablet will reboot when installation is complete.
Step 6.
Enter ClockworkMod:
To get into ClockworkMod you need to shut down your device, then press the Power and Volume+ button (the same way you did to install ClockworkMod).
Navigating ClockworkMod: Vol+ and Vol- are to scroll up and down, the home button selects an option, and the back button backs up.
Step 7.
Re-Partition your Tablet:
In order to make sure the Android Market works correctly after installing any ROM, we must re-partition the device.
Select the advanced option at the bottom of the ClockworkMod menu, then go to “partition SD card”, for the first option select 2048, and for the second option select 0. This erases data on your tablet. Be prepared.
Part Two – Install a ROM.
A ROM (explained in very basic terms) is like Windows on your computer (assuming you’re not running Linux or Mac OS). Each ROM contains a customized version of Android that comes packaged with software, themes, and everything else you actually see when the device powers up. You install any additional apps you would like to use after installing the ROM. Beware, ROMs are device specific. You cannot reliably install ROMs designed for another device.
Step 1.
Now that your device is essentially empty, we need to be able to put files on it. ClockworkMod can do this for us. Connect your tablet’s USB cable from your tablet to your computer. Go to the ClockworkMod main menu, then navigate down to “mounts and storage”, and then select “mount USB storage”. The tablet’s internal storage will then be accessible from your computer. You will want to open it, and create a folder called “ROMs”.
Step 2.
Download whatever ROM you want to use. The links to the ROMs are located above. Click on the link to see what that ROM looks like. The most popular ROMs for this device are TnT Lite and VEGAn Tab.
Step 3.
Copy whatever ROM you wish to install (it should be a .zip file) to the ROMs folder on your tablet. (Leave it zipped, Clockwork will install it from the .zip file as is).
Note: If the ROM you downloaded has multiple files, look for the one named “update.zip” and rename it to whatever you want (something to help you differentiate it from other ROMs), then copy that to the tablet. If an “update.zip” doesn’t exist, and you’re lost…read through that ROM’s thread and see if anybody else asked about it…if not then you probably should (on that ROM’s thread…each one is different).
Step 4.
Turn off your device.
Step 5.
Boot into ClockworkMod. (Press the power button and the volume+ button at the same time until the Viewsonic splash screen pops up, release, then you should see “Detect a recovery key pressed”. After that it will think for a few seconds and then it should boot into ClockworkMod)
Step 6.
Stand up and do a dance. Sitting too long isn't good for you.
Step 7.
Back up to the main menu, then navigate down to “mounts and storage”. When that is highlighted press the home button to select it.
Step 8.
We want to mount “/system” and “/data”.
The goal is to see the following:
“unmount/system”
and,
“unmount/data”
If either one says “mount” instead of “unmount” you need to navigate to that line and press the home button to mount it.
Step 9.
This is the step that we actually flash the ROM in.
From the ClockworkMod main menu, navigate down to “install zip from sdcard” and press the home button to select that option at the menu.
Then, navigate to “choose zip from sdcard” and press the home button to select that option.
Navigate to the line that reads “ROMs” and press the home button to select that option.
Navigate to the line that reads whatever .zip file you wish to install and press the home button to select that option.
Navigate to the line that reads “Yes – Install yourzipfile.zip” and press the home button to select that option.
You will now see it do its thing. When complete you will see something along the lines of “install zip from sdcard complete” at the bottom of the screen.
Press the back arrow over and over again until you get to the Clockwork’s main menu.
Step 10.
Here is where we prepare the system to run the new ROM.
Navigate down to “mounts and storage”, select it, and mount “/system” and “/data” again as in steps 7 and 8.
Back up to Clockwork’s main menu.
Navigate to “wipe data/factory reset”, select it. Navigate down to “Yes – delete all user data”, and select it to wipe out user data and all the cache. (You need to do this for the new ROM to function correctly)
Now, navigate to the top option “reboot system now” and select it. Your tablet will now reboot. It may take up to 15 minutes to start up the first time as it rebuilds the user data and cache for this ROM.
If your tablet boots to UID errors, or has force closes (known to fix a few of them)…
Press and hold the power button to shut the device down. Boot back into Clockwork. Select the advanced option at the bottom, and then go to “Fix Permissions”. Afterwards, back out to the main menu, then select “reboot system now”. If that is unsuccessful then boot back into Clockwork and redo steps 7-10.
Part Three – Install Flash and fix Android Market
This is needed to view websites with Flash based content, and to download apps from the market. (Fairly obvious, I know, but just in case somebody doesn't know.) Log in/set up your Google Account before trying the market fix (steps vary on the ROM you are using…in most cases you can access the web accounts by opening the Contacts app, pressing the menu button (the one above the back button), and selecting accounts).
Step 1.
Download “Adobe Flash Player 10.1.120.1.apk” which you will find attached at the bottom of this post and save it on your tablet (I recommend creating a separate folder to save .apk files in).
Step 2.
On your tablet open up whatever file explorer comes pre-installed with the ROM you’ve selected. In there, open up where you saved your .apk, then select Adobe Flash Player, and follow the on screen instructions to finish installing that.
Step 3.
Open the Market app. Once it loads close it (press the home button).
Step 4.
Go into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Market - Clear CACHE - Force Stop
(For TnT/TnT Lite... Settings - Applications - System Applications)
Step 5.
Press back once - Google Services Framework - Clear DATA - Force Stop
Step 6.
Go back to your home screen and open up the market. You should get an error. If not, redo steps 4 and 5 until you do.
Step 7.
Reboot your device. After it starts back up let it sit for a minute or two to let things in the operating system normalize. Open the Market. Reboot your device.
Step 8.
Open the market again and enjoy. You should now have Flash and the Android Market.

Open up Titanium Backup, go to Backup/Restore and look for Google Services Framework, select it, then select “Wipe Data”
Step 5.
Go back to your home screen and open up the market. You should get an error. If not, redo steps 3 and 4 until you do.
Step 6.
Reboot your device. After it starts back up let it sit for a minute or two to let things in the operating system normalize. Open the Market. Reboot your device.
Step 7.
Open the market again and enjoy. You now have Flash and the Android Market. (Keep in mind, this is not the FULL market, it just makes around 99% of it available. It is unknown which apps are not available. There is a full market fix, but it is MUCH more complicated).

Comment on Section 3... I simplified this by removing Steps 4 and 5 and modifying Step 3 to;
Step 3.
Go into Settings – Applications – Manage Applications - and Force Stop both the Market and Google Services Framework apps, [ADD] also 'Clear Data' on 'Google Services Framework' (after stopping it in same screen).
So removes the Need for TB in this proceedure, though TB is always something worth having...
Also I only needed the first reboot in Step 6, wait a few minutes then tried Market and all was fine! No multiple reboots needed for me at least...

I have already done everything in this post and my tab seems to be working great but never did anything like step 8. I did do the wipes in step 10 so just curious.

This technically isn't needed for TnT Lite...but if people were to use this guide as guidelines for installing other ROMs (as I hope people would do...you know...following directions is good, but learning what your doing is GREAT), step 8 is something that is always good to get in the habit of doing before a flash.
With many other ROMs, on this device and others, not mounting /data and /system before flashing causes headaches.

I did it using 'Clear Data' as well...but this was my way of getting newbies to use TB (and to get more familiarized with side-loading apps). It's a great utility that I feel Android users should be familiar with.

The only complication in following these instructions came when I could not locate my /sdcard2 folder using Clockworkmod. Once clockwork was installed using the removable SD card (as suggested), I moved all of my other files to the internal /sdcard folder, as it was the only one (easily?) discoverable. This guide was the only one useable for this android noob.

Yes, it seems the clockwork version on this guide, does not redirect to SD2 for installs.
You must put them on the internal storage.

Does it display an error? Please be a little bit more specific. Did you try restarting the tablet (not just putting it into standby and bringing it back up)? Also, were you sure to force close the apps before clearing the data?
I did all these steps last night and everything seemed to work as expected. When I woke up this am and actually started to play with the Market, I realized that even though the Market looked good last night, all the important apps are gone this morning. I followed the instructions on the forms and on youtube videos and got the exact same results that were to be expected. I got all the errors and rebooted when asked and thought I was ok. When I opened Market after the Fix Process, all the same apps I would see on my HTC Evo are there. HOWEVER !! once I try to search or change the category to Apps or Games, or go to the sub catagorys 90% of the apps disappear. My app / game selection is now only 1 page long
When Market first opens up, I see Angry Birds and other apps I want, in the category description, but when I try to navigate to them, the screen simply says "loading" and never come up. It will stay that way for over an hour. The only thing I can do is change another catagory. When I do that, the loading text goes away and apps will show up, but alot are missing. Even the category description like for "Action Games" no longer lists Angry Birds in it. And if I try to search for an app I know is in the market like Advanced Task Killer... it says it can't be found.
I repeat the Market Fix process over and over and over again with the exact same results. Any Idea? Everything else seems to be working fine. Flash and Titanium Back up work perfect. Just can't get Market to show all the content.
I just picked up one of these and I'm trying to get this going, but when I mount it to the computer, it doesn't see my 2gb sd card.. The tab see's it fine, but not windows...
Any suggestions?

Picked up my GTab today @ Staples. 45 minutes later it's ready to go with TnT 2.2, full Market access and Flash using this guide! So far...so good!

Can't access Gtablet VIA USB cable from PC
I installed CWM 8, TNT lite 2.2 and performed market fix. Now my Gtab is working great. Prior to this thread I was stuck in a loop. My gtab is running great thanks a lot for posting this tutorial.
My only issue now is I can't access the internal SD from PC. Nothing shows up on my PC when I connect the USB cable to my Gtab. I have tried unmounting and mounting SD several times in CWM.
Prior to this update I was able to access and sideload APK's on my gtab running stock software with Viewsonic update.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well after booting up a couple of times it just started to work (my Gtab showed showed the SD card option). I have downloaded several programs and they all install automatically and every one of then worked. No sideloading no additional steps for install this is amazing. I was coveting the windows 7 tabs on the horizon but the free programs available through the market are amazing and when they are Combined with the Gtab hardware its amazing.
Thanks again for posting this there is no way I would have tried to put this software on my system if I had not seen this guide.

The tablet doesn't seem to like giving the PC access to the microSD card. As far as I know this is a feature that is not available in any ROM. Also, it is my understanding that for this sort of thing to be possible we need to have the device's source code so we can make the hardware/software mesh better.
That is...unless I'm missing something very obvious...which is totally possible.

Thanks to everyone on the site - from Roebeet and pals who pulled it together to scsione889 and others who did the walkthrough. For an absolute newbie (didn't know what "root" meant) to be able in one day to turn an absolute clunker into what I have now is unbelievable.
If you're new like me, and wondering whether you can pull it off, you can. Just make this the one time in your life when you read and follow the instructions exactly, without your usual improvisation!
Background: So I was running Windows 8 Built 2400 and I wanted to upgrade the new built. I decided to Download BluePoison and download windows built 8400 from there. I put it in a bootable USB and ran it but something when wrong and didn't let me install it. So I decided to go to windows 8 official website and download the official windows. I install it and everything work then I rebooted.
Now when my pc rebooted It let me to a blue screen where its gave me 3 options: (1) Windows 8 Volume 2 (2) Windows 8 Volume 2 (3) Choose Options { can remember exact name }. When I choose (1) it boots up regularly. When I pick (2) it gives me and error that windows can run cause a file its missing ( Im pretty sure this is some left over from the installation that fail)
So does anyone know how I can stop thing and just let windows boot into option (1) automatically
Open explorer, right click Computer, hit properties, hit advanced system settings, then hit the settings button in the Startup and Recovery group.

if its installed to a different partition then right click in the bottom right corner of desktop to give you the quick menu, go to disk management and delete the no longer needed partition.
It would be wise to make sure you know which one it is, check in My computer, you will see the drive you are currently using Windows from will have a blue windows logo on it. Then expand your existing partition to use the space
If you somehow installed it on the same partition or it just went wrong then check for Windows.old folders, its unlikely that Windows will have installed to the same folder
Also hit Win-R to bring up the Run dialog box
type in MSCONFIG
Goto Boot
select the dead OS and delete it

When I press Disk Management and there four Volume ((C: ),HP_TOOLS(F: ),RECOVERY ), and System. So I don't know which one to deleted.
I also check and there not Windows.old folder I believe I deleted it.

nope, I wouldn't delete any of them
if you want to be sure, open up a command console
type in diskpart
then type list volume
it will give you a list of all your volumes.
if you can copy it or take a screen shot and post it here we can take a look
The drives you have listed tho look like valid partitions that HP would install for recovery purposes so whatever happened with the other install it doesn't look like it changed anything other than messing with the boot config.

Here its a pick. Also I agrre with you that the other partitions are for HO recovery purposes. DO you believe since I deleted the dead OS from MSCONFIG and deleted Windows.old folder that there should not be any leftover from the previous instillation

Putting the sob story behind, I pulled this Bravo out of the closet and really miss some of the more advanced android features, so here I am.
Reading through the forums I think I need a ROM with at least Android 2.3.x. Stability is key, and I need everything to work (use camera everyday), so cutting edge ROMs are out for me.
Being a total noob, can someone advise which ROM is current, and point to some directions/links that worked for you? There is an abundance of information, and I have information overload.
So far, I rooted with superoneclick. Being a noob, that was a milestone! lol.

That's a good start. What you need to do next is install 2ndinit recovery using the app to do so. Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212 I'm using the latest version and it works just fine.
But before that, you may want to install titanium backup to back up all of your apps.
For roms, my suggestion is to start with skeevy420's cm7 kang, which runs android 2.3.7. It's stable, really fast, and reliable. It's my current and every day rom. It's found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1755200 There are plenty of rom flashing tutorials out there if you do a little searching. Good luck! If you have any questions, just ask.

Check "allow applications from unknown sources" in settings. Put the .apk on the SD card, open a file explorer and select it to install the app. Then follow the instructions on the thread.

You might have to download the bravo sideload enabler from the market first.

EDIT: This is the step by step that worked for me, a totally novice user. Compiled from all over these forums, and this thread. Thanks to Dr. Orange and Skeevy420 for helping me when I was totally stuck. I also suggest using directory Aa as suggested in skeevy420's post below, & having a full charge battery.
First, thanks for helping me. Pardon the wall of text, here is my plan (compiled from many places), I have completed up to and including step 14. I want to make sure I am on the correct path. I feel good until 18. I browsed the .zip archive of the kang download, I do not see the " gapp. file. "Where do I get it from? Thanks.
1) Factory reformat phone:
From the main home screen
tap menu
tap Settings
tap Privacy
tap Factory data reset
tap Reset phone
tap Erase everything. Confirm
2) On boot disable Motoblur by:
Press menu key (4 squares in lower left corner) and hold until keyboard pops up.
tap ?123
* tap ALT
* tap ABC
* tap e
* tap 123
* tap ALT
* tap ABC
* tap e
* tap b
* tap l
* tap u
* tap r
* tap o
* tap f
* tap f
3) Turn on USB debug
From the main home screen
* * * tap Applications
* * * tap Development
* * * tap USB Debugging (make green check)
4) Download/install Bravo drivers

5) Download/install superoneclick:

6) Next connect phone via USB port with the computer
7) From Notifications pane on phone, change USB mode from Motorla Phone Portal (default) to USB mass storage.
8) In superoneclick:
Click Root button.
Phone will reboot twice.
You need wait for a while while the process completes.
9) Click Allow Non Market Apps:
Success is when you see a "1" value after checking NMA #1 & 2? (I assume - as this is where mine stopped for 1 1/2 hrs)
10) Verify @ Froyo (2.2.x):
Tap Settings
Tap About Phone
Want to see: Android Version 2.2.x
11) Download 2init & Gingerbread apps

Use windows explorer/Dolphin to copy (I made a directory called ROM with kang/gapps & another 2init)
Connect via usb
Put the .apk & .zip on the SD card in correct directories,
Disconnect USB
14) Install 2 init:
Check that "allow applications from unknown sources" is on in settings.
Use phone file manager to browse where you put sndinint (in 13 above) and select sndinit to install the app.
Find app in phones installed apps list
read instructions, install
Green light will be on, but will turn off after a while.
15) (Re)boot into 2ndInit recovery by
make sure the usb unplugged from computer .
Shut-down/reboot.
While booting watch for blue led to flash during boot, hit volume down once it flashes blue.(about 8-10 seconds in)
If done properly, you will see 2ndinit menu.
16) From 2ndinit menu:
Select Recovery
Select Custom Recovery
Select Wipe Data and Factory Reset
Select Yes -- delete all user data
Go to "Install zip from sdcard"
Choose zip from sdcard
Locate the zip and select it*
Select Yes
Go to "Install zip from sdcard"
Locate Gapps and select it
Select Yes
Select Go Back
Select Reboot -- You're done and using a custom rom
reboot takes a while- do not give up.
Make sure to wipe cache as well on 16. Sometimes it causes problems if you don't.

To save posts, I'll start on an updated CM7 tomorrow. There's been brown-outs and thunderstorms lately and one happed to happen as I was updating two weeks ago and the power outage wiped my android build partition; so I just shut my pc down and have only been on for maybe 30 minutes in the past two weeks. I don't want to risk damaging my 8 year old pc due to crappy weather combined with an over used power grid during 105F temps. Hope ya'll understand.
Luckily the temps down to around 95F and the power hasn't cut out for two days. Still hot and humid, but much better than the past few weeks. I normally don't say this, but I hope Louisiana or Texas gets slammed with a hurricane so we can get some good rain here in Arkansas.

Once your in the 2nd-Init bootmenu, do this.
Select Recovery
Select Custom Recovery
Select Wipe Data and Factory Reset
Select Yes -- delete all user data
Go to "Install zip from sdcard"
Choose zip from sdcard
Locate the zip and select it*
Select Yes
Go to "Install zip from sdcard"
Locate Gapps and select it
Select Yes
Reboot -- You're done and using a custom rom
*I put all my zips in a folder called "Aa". "Aa" happens to be the first folder on my sdcard and its less wear on the volume rocker than to find the zips when they're in places like Downloads or as a single file on the root directory of the card. Its also faster since you can access all you're zips in a literal second (flash hundreds of roms and you'll see what I mean).

Try downloading voice search from the market. It might add the microphone button to your keyboard. I'm not certain though.

Definitely install Google voice search, but try installing an aftermarket keyboard. I use swiftkey 3, works amazing on the small bravo screen and it has build in voice typing.

+1 for SwiftKey 3. I got it on the 10 year anniversary for $0.10 usd. It's amazing. There's a swiftkey free, which would basically convince you to purchase the full version.

You can use your computer and just copy the contents from one card and paste it on the other with no issues. You might need an sd card adapter for the other microsd card you'll be copying the data to. I've done this twice from the stock 2gb card to a 4gb, then to a 16gb. It's nice that it is so simple, as it shoulf be.
Just did the copy from one sd to another- worked perfectly.
I used "show hidden files" so I was sure to get everything.

Thank you so much for the comprehensive to do list. I flashed my note, so I have some exposure, but your list should def help me stay on track. Thank you once again!
It should work fine, I edited it after I completed each step (so others could follow it- including me if I needed to at a later time). The only step that left me with a huge question was #9- allow non market apps. The software did not give any indication it was completed or successful.
These guys in the thread (Skeevy420, Dr. Orange, avr-Illithian) really helped me out when I had issues. The reading and conflicting information/dead links etc.. was overwhelming.
Good Luck. I am really happy with the new ROM. I have had no issues with it.
EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED. THE BELOW IS IRRELEVANT.
I am running CM 7.0 and recently I tried to change the font for the lock screen clock. Seemed fairly simple. Here is what I did and the end result:
- Added new font in form of .ttf with name of "Clockopia"
- Saved a back up of the original Clockopia to my sd card.
- I count replace the original because of permissions.
- After changing permissions I replaced the orgin clockopia with the new one.
- After exiting the file/root explorer, the phone started to re-boot.
- However it wont get passed the CM7.0 boot screen.
- I restarted the phone and still get the same result.
Any help would be great. I am using a Mac, no android SKD installed. I got CM 7.0 installed from a friend, but he is un-reachable at this time.

Well since your ROM is outdated anyways now you may want to download CM7.2, dont fret its easy, copy the zip to the root of your SD Card (You must have a SD Card reader) and put the SD back into your phone, and hold down the volume down and power keys and you get into HBOOT (dancing androids on skateboards) press the volume down key once to highlight Recovery then press the power button to enter recovery, once In recovery use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to enter, select 'Wipe data/factory reset, confirm and warnings of data loss and continue to wipe, go back to the main menu and and select Install From SD Card select choose zip from sdcard and select your CM7.2 zip and select yes, after it installs go back to the main menu and select Reboot, then your phone should boot into Cm7.2, (you will have to set everything up again)

Thanks, I actually just did that. I used AROMA file manager to check system files from recovery mode and discovered that for some reason all my system files had vanished (probably because of me messing around in there earlier). In any case, I just cut my losses and re-installed CM, updated version of course.
Lesson learned: no more playing around with system files.
