downloading books pause at 99% - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

team, found the teardowns (search is awesome)
and this may just be "one of those things) but I am having a dickens of a time downloading books bought from amazon onto a nook running CM7 and ADW
they continually stop at 99%, in the kindle app.
I know that there are other methods, but this is for my 5YO so simpler is better
is there another way? or a fix?
thanks

More apps... thanks to XDA

So I bought the Kindle Fire, thinking it would be locked down, with no sideloading capability, but I figured for $200 it would be a decent deal. It is.
However, thanks to XDA, I am going to be getting a lot more out of this thing! I followed the instructions of how to root on Mac, and then installed the Market. GMail didn't want to work at first, but running Docs and Music, it seems to work fine. Speaking of Music, I have finally found a use for it! Now, I can have my iTunes library on the Kindle Fire. Sure, it won't work without wifi, but my music alone is ~35GB, and I have my 64GB iPhone 4S on me at all times if I'm away from home anyways, so no big deal there.
Continuing on with the Kindle, I got Dropbox, Enngadget, and Mozy off of the market, and a bunch of the Google Apps from a file linked here. I found that for some reason, the Android Market doesn't allow the NYTimes app, or Google Earth, to be installed on the Kindle Fire. That didn't stop me, however, and after getting an old NYTimes APK that couldn't be updated, I finally found the latest one, and got that going.
I also installed the root/unroot program to get Amazon video working.
In conclusion, this thing is pretty awesome now! Even though I have to use an alternate launcher to get to the Market, I have kept the default interface as the default, and the apps show up in the stock app shelf, just like they belong there. Everything works 100%, AFAIK!

Umm, the Fire never was locked down, if you just allow installation from unknown sources, you can sideload most apps.

Correct, but it was much easier to get the APKs and keep them updated through the Market than via side-loading.
However, when buying it, I thought that it would be a totally locked down experience- I didn't think we'd see side-loading at all without some serious hacking, or the ability to run just about anything while keeping the Kindle experience and ecosystem.
Desperately looking for the latest nytimes apk
where is the said link to download the apps?
The latest versio of NYtimes i found is 1.6.8, which is not good enough.

CM7/CM9 Nook APP - Reading Magazines

Hello all,
I know this has been discussed a lot but I can't seem to find a clear and final answer and I'm confused about one or two things. I have multiple magazine subscriptions that I can read just fine with the stock 1.4.1 NC software. I am currently running a CM9 nightly and would completely abandon the stock software on the emmc if I could get my magazines to work on the Nook Android App, but I cannot.
Has anyone found a fix for this? I have hear about Aldiko and I downloaded the app, but I am not sure how to proceed from there. Where are my magazines stored? Can Aldiko read them? I'm confused.
If anyone has any advice or a workaround I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
It is not hard to do the only challenge is that the magazine names are not given. Just use file manager to look in the B&N Downloads/Magazines on the nook hard drive (emmc/B&N Downloads/Magazines) click on the file and choose Aldiko to complete action.
As I said the problem is the magazine names are not there just file names which are numbers. I do not have a work around for that but at least I did not have to mess with DRM.
Thanks but I just checked in that folder and it was empty. Any idea why?

A bit off topic but not really...
I've been using the Zinio app for all of my magazines on all of my devices (android, apple, pc). I love it since it let's me read my mags on any device I may be using at the moment.
I looked into Zinio but the difference is that I get my Nook magazines free if I also have the print subscription, which Zinio does not offer. I would really love to read my nook magazines on CM...
Hey,
It depends on the magazine. Download the nook app, don't know if it works on CM9, and try to access the books from the nook app. Wired magazine did not work for me but Everyday Food did. YMMV.
I get Analog and Asimov's, and they work very well on my CM9 NC with the Nook app. These mags changed the format this month to something called "Article View™", but I haven't decided whether I like it or not. I've been using Aldiko for most reading, however, much more presentation control.
Download the Nook app from B&N while running CM7 or 9 and re-download the stuff you've purchased. What problems are you running into?
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium
Go to the B&N site and look up each magazine. If it works on Nook for Android it will say so. If it only shows Nook Color & Nook Tablet you are out of luck.
Thank you everyone for your help. The magazines I have are tablet/color only so they won't work. I have EW and the New Yorker through Next Issue and I actually just got Wired magazine by finding the Kindle Fire Wired apk and installing it on my CM9 Nook, works pretty well (setup was a pain in the ass though).

rooted nook ST & kindle app issue

Hello Everyone.
My Wife and I purchased some nook simple touches at the bargain price of £30 each.
Me being me decided that because they where running android, It would be rude not to root them.
I used the NookManager here :Nook Manager Link
and i also used :NTGAppsAttacks
I then proceeded to download the Kindle Apps 'app' from the market place on android and install it.
Unfortunately this Kindle app wont see the .Mobi files that are on the Nook.
I can still read the .epub files which are native to the nook using its own reader... its just i have a good stock of Kindle books on my PC as i used to have a Kindle before my wife decided to end its life with the heel of her foot after falling asleep, dropping it on the floor and forgetting about it.
Any help would be very gratefully received as i would like to continue reading my Game of Thrones book which is in .Mobi format.
Thank you in advance

Request for Amazon Kindle APK and Q on Play Books

So I bought a new Glowlight 3 last night and I'm trying to install Kindle on it. I used the latest version pulled from my phone of Kindle but I think it's too much for the Glowlight 3 since it's just hanging most of the time. Could someone upload a version that they use that works?
Also, besides sideloading, how do you get Google Play Books to show up?

Amazon Kindle apk that has been used on original NST/NSTG: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024062 (this works on my Nook Tablet running AOSP 7.0 so it should work for whatever OS is on the Glowlight 3 and, anyway, it is supposedly optimized for e-ink)
Unless you have GApps on your Glowlight 3, you're not going to get Google Play Books to work. I think. GPB requires sync routines supplied by GApps. If you have GApps running then you either download GPB from the PlayStore or else (as you said) download from some other site and sideload or ADB the app.

For some devices Amazon has a two step login. You try and fail, they send an email with a temporary password, then you log in once with that. That's how it works for the NST.
kindle app for original NST not working well
Unfortunately the kindle app for the original NST does not work well for the Glowlight 3. we get black pages which are unreadable...any input from people who found a working kindle app would be appreciated.
thanks

I have been working for some time on the abandoned CM11 ROM for the NST/G, trying to salvage it. One of the surprises is that the Kindle app to which you refer looks terrible, much like you describe. It also will not remember login. So I went looking for a functional replacement. Pretty much nothing worked (bigger and more bloated...). Finally I stumbled across Kindle Lite, first created for dicey data connections in India. It is beautiful to look at on the NST/G. It's simple, as the name implies. The store works (I got a free book). Library books can be fulfilled at Amazon.com. The one thing it cannot do is read side-loaded mobi books-at least I have not gotten it to do so. Very little documentation. It's in the Playstore, but can also be found at places like Apkpure, etc. I have been trying out version 1.9, but there are newer versions available. Very small footprint, about 2 MB.
One thing is a little counterintuitive. You'd think books would download as a matter of course, but they persist in the ether unless you specifically download them. Having a local copy makes for a better reading experience.

Convert Kindle Fire into Kiosk/Smart Home tool

Hiya,
I have some old Android tablets lying around, two of which are Kindle Fires. I'd like to figure out some use for them.
One thought is making one connected all the time to a to-do list app (like Google Keep) and have that mounted on a wall. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions and getting an extremely barebones ROM on a Kindle Fire, but with the ability to login to Google and use up-to-date apps like Google Keep. Preferably it would be "pinned" that that app all the time. Wondering if there is a ROM that eliminates the launcher entirely and just goes to a single app (but with the ability to do full authentication with a Google account)
Thanks for any help!
This probably could be done - like you say, we'd need to have a non-stock rom that could utilize the tablet features of the kindle instead of the reader features.
I like the idea a lot!
I'll see what I can dig up, since I also have this tablet and would like to do that as well.
