First of all i m not very good in the bootloader concept....but i do know what a bootloader is....if the bootloader s unlocked ,will we be needing a custom recovery?...and plz tel me the uses f a unlocked bootloader
A bootloader is the software that loads the linux kernel and then the android os.
Since the bootloader is locked so is the kernel and we cant modify it.
If we can get an unlocked bootloader then we can get custom kernels which which will enable us to have fully customisable os.
Right now we cant modify a lot of things even though we have cm7, miui etc we have them running on the stock motorola kernel

I have rooted my rogers phone the UK way and am wondering if i want to install some custom roms/cm7 do i need to unlock my bootloader? I am a noob......there is so much information on this site....bear with me and my questions.
Flashing a stock ROM such as the generic doesn't need an unlocked bootloader because it uses stock kernel, and doesn't need a custom recovery. That's why you can just use flashtool.
CM7 uses a custom kernel and needs recovery, so you need to unlock the bootloader.
Sent from my R800
I have ICS ota, can I just get root.
If I install root and cwm can I do costom roms or do I need the unlocked bootloader also..?
If I don't need the unlocked bootloader what would it gain me.
Thanks
you need a ics unlocked bootloader to use custom ics and have ability to flash new roms and make backups.
Hii
I just got my Z2 rooted with this method
I just followed the steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/guide-how-to-root-xperia-z2-android-5-1-t3253878
Just one question
My bootloader sayz unlock not allowed...
Can I now flash TWRP or not?
Or is it just that I can not flash kernels??
I dont understand what is diffrent with bootloader locked and unlocked
Mine as I have read is locked forever so I dont want to brick my device or something...
Some advice about such bootloaders and what I can NOT DO would help me to understand
Thanks in advance
EDIT 01:
I just have followed the link in that post where I have rooted the phone
And just got TWRP installed as my recovery
So just to let you guys know evan dual recovery works fine with L5.1.1.
Just to say I have LockedBootloader
So guys please advice me for further
What restrictions do I have with the LB in diffrence to Unlocked BL
Can I do exact the same flashing of things like they on unlocked BL or not?
What should I be carefull about
Please guy give some info
1- With locked bootloader
you can only flash sony stock based roms (you can flash miui rom as there is a version with sony stock base).
you cannot flash cyanogenmod or custom kernels and any other rom.not based on stock sony.
2- with Unlocked bootloader
You can flash any custom rom or kernel for xperia z2 including cyanogenmod.
But you will LOOSE your DRM keys if you unlock your bootloader which will degrade the camera quality and xreality engine...

You cant accidentally unlock your BL and if it says it cant be unlocked Im afraid it is locked forever. There is no any way to unlock it AFAIK. If you have root, which it looks like you do, you can install TWRP by downloading an app TWRP manager from the plat store, give it root permission and in Install section find your variant of Z2 and let it doo its thing. It will automatically flash recovery.img and reboot and thats it.
Now you can flash all [UB] as unlocked bootloader marked roms, but no custom kernels and AOSP ROMs.
In my experience, if you try to flash something for LB it will just produce an error and you can reboot your device normally without any changes.
Thanks guys !!!
No its all clear to me

In case if we lock Bootloader when the phone is in Custom ROM...
Is it possible to unlock Bootloader......??
if yes, how...???
I think u can flash other ROMS till u have custom recovery..
No need to unlock BL.
BTW unlock as you unlocked before.
i unlocked in official process ..
for that MIUI ROM is must i think know ..?
& will there be any problem if lock bootloader when it is in custom ROM..
I have a G920T (T-Mobile ) running Android 5.1.1. It's unlocked ,rooted & has custom rom TWPR. I would like to know if flashing T-Mobile stock (Android 7) rom will re-lock my phone. I don't know which method was used to unlock. Currently I can flash any 5.1.1 custom rom & it's still unlocked but I need to update to 7.0 which requires updated boot loader. I'm afraid it will lock the phone.

IK that you will lose root and TWRP by flashing stock firmware.
But IDK if the bootloader will be locked again ... probably yes.
Then you may have to unlock the bootloader afterwards. Best to check for unlock methods available for your device running stock Android 7.
